GM IC:

"Scathach's right." A new voice crackled over the comms, accompanied by a new IFF signature on sensors. A glance at the unit's designation left no doubt who was piloting it. "McKinley here. Haul ###### back to the city, that ship just became top priority. I'll get these guys off your back, at least a minute or two."

The gray Warrior jetting into view was, beyond a shadow of a doubt, the oldest Walker on the battlefield. Angular vents and a low serial number pointed towards an early-run Warrior, but the long-barreled rocket launcher resting across its shoulders did not seem any less dangerous. At the very edge of effective range it was pointed back towards the artillery Walkers and their support, sending a projectile soaring into the air above the Gunners' broad shoulders. Rather than a clean miss, however, it was very intentional; its detonation was without fire or smoke, but the Gunners and the Warrior escorts stilled, slumped like puppets with their strings cut.

“Get a move on, folks, they’re gonna reboot in a minute. R&D haven’t worked out all the bugs. Head back towards the base, regroup there if you don’t get further instructions. Find any hostiles on the way, you shoot ‘em. Clear?”

***

“Teams One, Team Two. Status?”

“Ready for launch, sir. Just give the order.”

“Good.” The Liberator’s bridge was remarkably quiet, without the frantic activity of the Federation base far below. His officers knew their duties. They had been preparing for this day for quite some time and now… Now all that remained was to do it. “Launch. Akai, I want the Mass Driver facility under our control. Meteor, you are to coordinate with our allies on the ground. Neutralize the Federation base. If they surrender, excellent.Otherwise you know what to do.”

“Aye, sir. Meteor Team, moving to catapult deck.”

Deep within the ship the sound of metal feet resounded off of the hangar floor, sleek, black machines stomping their way onto the catapult deck. Twenty meters tall, about the size of a Warrior, the lead machine was smooth and efficient. Armor melded cleanly with the frame, black plates over a gunmetal base. A short-barreled carbine rested in its grip, a small shield in its opposite hand, green optic sensors flared to life. The second Walker was a spitting image of it, “02” printed on its shoulder where the first had “01”, but the third and fourth machines were of another variety. Twenty three meters tall, and much burlier than its compatriot, it nevertheless felt just as clean. A thick green targeting visor served as its optics, set on a stocky head unit. Thick shields were affixed to its left shoulder, stretching above and below the joint to serve as a sort of riot shield without taking up space. A long, thick barrel lay cleanly against its back, affixed to its backpack with a tough mechanical arm on its right side. Both varieties had the handles for melee weapons protruding over their left shoulder.

“Assaulter and Behemoth types prepped. Transferring timing controls to Meteor-1. All systems green.”

“Understood. Launching.”

Magnetic rails surged to life, sending the machines rocketing along the length of the launch deck and out into the open air. Their freefall lasted but a few moments, thrusters firing as they neared the ground to slow their descent, but concrete still cracked and fragmented when they touched down. The warehouse district on the edge of Horizon, only a little ways from the Federation base, had been an ideal LZ. No resistance, and few civilians to be caught in any crossfire. A second set of four touched down behind them, heading in the opposite direction, towards the Mass Driver.

“Meteor and Akai have landed. Proceeding to targets.” The two groups of four broke off, circling in opposite directions towards their respective targets. Powerful thrusters on their backs and legs propelled them forward, drawing closer towards their enemies. “ETA five minutes.”

“Confirmed. Officers, commence operations.” The ghost of a smile played across their Commander’s lips, set under vibrant green eyes. “Show the Federation their folly.”

OOC: So, to recap, previous enemies are stalled for the moment. They'll be back online soon. New enemy units are headed for the Mass Driver and the base, you can engage either set if you wish. I'll handle any enemy NPC reactions from the new units, the old units (as they aren't quite down and out yet) are subject to your whims.

IC: Sofia Scarlett - Battlefield.

With the enemy mech disabled, Sofia saw her opportunity. Jamming her sword blade into the Warrior's front, she used the blade to lever the cockpit open, allowing her to reach in and snatch up the enemy pilot with the Riscatto's free hand, trying to ensure she held him tightly enough that he'd be unable to reach for a weapon, but not so tight that she'd wind up crushing him to death.

"This is Sofia Scarlett, heading back to base," she called into her radio as she started to back off, "I'm bringing a prisoner."

Gwen didn't consider herself a coward; but against impossible odds, only an idiot sticks around.

The Cutie could back up quicker than most AWs, on account of Scouts simply being lighter on their feet; and so it was that it began making its way back to the base backwards, twin handguns still held, cocked, and ready to cover anyone who needed covering on the way home.

Sure, it might have been a repair Walker; but ###### if she wouldn't have it put the fear of God into someone if she had to.

IC: " Ah for--" the Irish pilot growled as orders came through the comm lines, his accent no longer being written into the post and instead becoming an understood element of his speech. Words no longer obfuscated in transcription, he nonetheless relented after a long moment of contemplation. There was nothing he hated more than retreat. Than turning one's tail and running. Fighting off the counter, however...

"Aye, sir." came the terse response, as Macha sped away from the battlefield en route to the base, shotgun on a hair trigger should any enemy show themselves in his path.

IC (As Rojo-Schmetterling)

"Schmetterling here. Read you loud and clear. Falling back." Without another word, the former pirate turned his mecha around. As Rojo, trying desperately to avoid thinking about the giant screw-off ship in the sky then activated the Schmetterling's boosters-or as he liked to refer to it during moments like this, the 'get the out of dodge' button-and, as a final touch, murmured a few prayers to various gods, each more obscure then the last.

I believe you find life such a problem because you think there are the good people and the bad people. You are wrong, of course. There are, always and only, the bad people, but some of them are on opposite sides.

IC:

"Good work, Scarlett, get 'em tucked somewhere in the base good and quick. Boys and girls back at base are getting a party ready, and we don't want to be late." The Major's Warrior raced at top speeds back towards the Federation's bastion, kicking up dust with its thrusters along the way. The original invaders were already recovering, just like he thought, but they had a safe head start. They'd thinned their numbers, too, even if the artillery group was still intact. Made the ship the biggest problem. And now, what it was carrying with it. "Look alive folks, our new buddies dropped in some playmates."

The Warrior skidded to a stop just outside the Federation compound, angling its sensors towards the north and magnifying. Four black machines, fresh off the assembly line, and a ###### of a lot closer than he'd like. The Major had abandoned his rocket launcher, and a standard-issue assault rifle found its way into the Wolf's hands. A heads-up from Ops, in Toselli's unusually curt voice, drew his attention to the other four headed towards the Mass Driver.

"Four units inbound, and four more headed for the mass driver. Schmetterling, Macha, Zephyr I want you backing up 1st Squadron at the Driver. You'll outnumber the ######s two to one. Should be a fair fight, at least. Keep that them away, and keep yourselves alive. Can't afford losses." The Wolf gestured towards the Driver to emphasize the orders, then pointed at the rest of the group. "Rest of you, we're gonna keep them off the base. We've got backup ten minutes out, we just need to keep them at bay til then."

"And no dying. Looks bad on my record. Get going!"

Four years of spending all your downtime locked in an apartment with an energetic Japanese girl had taught Nadia White something about nosebleeds. Specifically, how to cap them in high-octane situations.

Using a stock of tissues she'd long since learned to keep handy, the cheerful Raptor pilot tore a tissue in half and began twining the pieces up to wipe up the blood already dripping down her face, and another to act as a pair of corks. When it was done, she reattached the visor to her flight helmet and took a deep breath through her mouth. The tissues helped stop most of the nosebleed, but it made breathing difficult, and right now, Lauren needed to find any equilibrium she could muster.

Woooosah.

Upon receiving McKinley's orders, Lauren took a scouting position towards the Federation defense's vanguard, using the Raptor's advanced radar for any sign of the Walkers that the attacking force had deployed. Walkers that, for the record, happened to be unlike any they'd ever seen.

######.

What a fight it'd make, though. It even managed to get old man McKinley off his ###### and into a Warrior for a change. In three years of working Horizon, and four before that in Tokyo, she'd never seen anything like it. This was a full on concentrated assault, complete with warship; this was something that, had they been taken with even a little bit more surprise, might have spelled a complete sack of Horizon and Union control of the mass driver. There were ten minutes and two defense teams between these new mechs and that dark objective.

Whatever she had to do to be a stellar part of that barrier, Nadia Lorena was about to get it done.

"Copy that," Luna affirmed the orders over the comm, targeting lights flooding the cockpit with a red glow, one that shifted to blue once the IFF kicked in and the computer began scanning for targets.  She had, with a speed respectable for the Aronnax, made her way back towards the city as soon as the order arrived.  She felt her stomach do something unnatural; the arrival of a goddamn ship into the airspace above made her thankful that she didn't have an open channel at the time.

Ten minutes, might as well been an hour.

Luna directed the behemoth of a machine Northward, hands flying across the control board as she designated the four black masses of gleaming metal as very, very unfriendly.  Seconds until they would be in range, now.  Indicators flipped from amber to green as she drew power from the maneuvering systems to engage the main weapon system, the arm-mounted railgun locking into firing position.  Party time.

"All hands, we will reach effective combat range in ten minutes! All pilots proceed to standby!" The Federation ship was abuzz with activity, deckhands and mechanics alike running about making last minute preparations for the coming battle. In the hangar, Walker pilots were finishing their own prep-work as those who had already finished began making their way to the linear catapult for launch. One such pilot was Jason Ryder, who was drumming his fingers restlessly against the armrest of his seat as he waited his turn. He had been waiting for this moment ever since they had been dispatched to assist the defenders at Horizon nearly an hour ago and there were only so many push-ups a man could do before he got bored. But now they were close and reports were coming in that the situation was more serious than initially reported, with a huge ship having appeared in the skies above the city and sightings of unidentified Walkers in the area. It was enough to get Jason's blood pumping and bring a smile to his face.

He could hardly wait.

IC Maigo Koizumi:

"Come on, get moving! We have hostiles inbound, and I need Kenkaku ready to engage!" The voice of the tiny woman was unseemingly boisterous. The mechanic working on the FAW-014 Scout grimaced, wishing the bossy Japanese woman would just let them work.

"Look, we're moving as fast as we can, but refueling just takes time, there's no getting around it! We could cut the time down if we don't put the scarf bac-"

"ARE YOU STUPID?! I CAN'T GO INTO BATTLE IN A SCARFLESS ARSENAL WALKER!"

One of the other mechanics chuckled to herself as she watched the fuel levels. Such a suggestion was downright heretical to Maigo Koizumi, hot shot Scout Pilot.

The mechanic nearest to the tiny, fiery woman, took a step back, raising his hands in front of him defensively, "L-look, I didn't mean-"

"BAKA! IF I DON'T HAVE THE SCARF, HOW WILL ANYONE KNOW IT'S ME?!"

The lead mechanic looked to the side, and mumbled, "pretty sure your temper is universally recognised...."

This was followed up by a wrench impacting his cranium, and a severely stormy Maigo stalking off to the ladder that led into the cockpit.

The other Mechanic laughed, while the lead rubbed his head, swearing.

An impossibly large blue piece of knitted fabric was wrapped around the Mecha's neck, draping along the side and back.

"She's good to go, Ms. Koizumi," she said, unhooking the fuel lines.

Inside the Scout, Maigo visibly brightened,"Al-RIGHT!"

With a slight rumble and a hum, the Scout fired up, it's cold fusion reactors flaring to life. The thrusters along the light Arsenal Walker pulsed experimentally, sending the scarf waving as if in a stiff wind.

The petite Japanese woman fixed her headset on her head, took hold of the controls, and the Scout responded in kind, taking a step forward, and hefting the 15 shot Carbine. Upon it's hip was secured a heat blade Katana.

The bay doors opened, letting in a true stiff wind, as Kenkaku stepped out onto the battlefield.

Inside, Maigo grinned, "Who's first?" she asked to the inside of her arsenal walker.

IC: "Understood, Macha en route the driver!" the Irish lad barked, charging off to his newly-assigned post with wild abandon and purposeful velocity, thunder crashing in a stead one-two rhythm as the 23m tall mech's legs chewed up the ground beneath them in their voracious appetite for distance.

120mm Shotgun cocked and ready, he felt a feral grin split his face once more as his eyes returned to tiny blue suns, scanning the horizon and surroundings with pugnacious intent even as he ran. Even the Old Wolf had come out of his den to play for this one. No deaths on his record, he said.

It'd look bad, he said.

A mean chuckle rose from the pilot's belly as he closed in on the mass driver, eyes drawing to the massive warship looming in the sky.

"You do me a disservice, Major. Give me four, give me four hundred, I take their heads all the same."

Skidding to a halt with a timely combination of thrusters and plain old friction, the green and white Warrior stood tall, proud, and ready, eyes peeled on the skies as four red blips drew onto the radar screen of her HUD.

"Macha proceeding to support First!" he called, fire leaking from his heart into his voice as he advanced to the front of the line.

IC (As Rojo-Schmetterling)

"Copy that. Moving into position."

Not for the first time, and certainly not for the last, As Rojo reflected on how very very useful those boosters had turned out to be. Rapid repositioning was...admittedly, an unintended side effect, at least first, but he'd swiftly learned to appreciate it's value. The Schmetterling set down near the driver-and it's pilot noted, with just a slight grimace, that the old mech didn't have that much fuel left for her boosters. Not shocking, considering the heavy use they'd been seeing today.

The former pirate ran a few systems checks as the Schmetterling moved into position with the other defenders. Ammo levels good. Booster fuel levels...not great. Structural integrity, harder then a CEO's heart...etc. "In position. Prepared to assist." Despite what one would expect from a man his history, Rojo's voice was level and calm...professional, in a word. He brought the Schmetterling's rifle to bear as enemy units lit up his HUD.

IC: Christoph Lockheed - Base

The Lockheed Custom sat motionlessly near the walls of the Federation compound, the only sounds emitting from the titanic weapon the whirring of its engines. In its hands was its gun, prepped and for the incoming onslaught of the invaders. The weapon had been reloaded, repaired, ready to be used once again in defense of Panama Base.

<<Yes, sir.>>

Christoph would not die here. He would show them what the Test Team had given birth to.

IC:

It was clear, from the first moment, that the colonists weren't planning to fight fair. The four mechs were just beginning to cross into effective range when the Liberator turned its weapons towards the Federation base. A swarm of missiles flooded the air from its port side banks, and its railguns visibly rotated to tank aim, but the assault was cut abruptly short by the base's defense systems springing to life. High-speed flak cannons from the perimeter cleared out most of the missile barrage, detonating the majority of the projectiles before they even got close and leaving the rest to impact mostly harmlessly on the outskirts of the compound. High-caliber gun emplacements, magnetically propelled, sent a few rounds the battleship's way to indicate that it wasn't a good idea to get too close.

But the Assault and Behemoth types had used the distraction to close the distance, with a 155mm shell narrowly missing McKinley's Warrior, and leaving a smoking crater only a few yards behind him. A shell of the same caliber from the other Behemoth's cannon rocketed towards the largest target it had; the Arronax.

The Assault-types were not to be outdone. Slipping out from the wake of their larger brethren, one flanked left to take shots at the Lockheed Custom, while the other flanked right to strafe Sofia's defensive position.

*****

"Glad you could make it!" A jovial voice sounded over the comms, greeting Rojo and PJ as they moved to support 1st. "We were just about to get their attention. Williams, give them a warm greeting!"

The nearest Gunner, Williams' by the sound of it, unleashed a missile barrage towards the incoming colonist Walkers, following it up with a shot from its over-the-shoulder railguns. The missiles rained down on the attackers, kicking up dust and smoke while the shells that followed fired straight into the center of the pack. The Lieutenant in charge of 1st Squadron waited with bated breath, weapon at the ready, to see the result. A lone projectile streamed out of the smoke before it even had time to clear, and Williams' cockpit was replaced by a giant, smoking hole as the Gunner dropped to the ground.

The Behemoths emerged first, front and center, with defensive damage to their shields but otherwise unscathed. And the two Assault types rocketed through the gap like an arrow, sending gunfire at the center of the defensive group in quick, three round bursts.

IC: <<Engaging!>>

Bursting away from the center of the formation and, thusly, the incoming rounds, a fierce cry echoed within Macha's cockpit as she danced and sang her song of war, each verse punctuated by thunder as her pilot expertly trained his shotgun upon the advancing Assault types, sending two rounds downrange. One for each, headed straight for their chests.

There was a reason the Irishman had opted for an extra-large main armament as opposed to the standard carbine. Tank-caliber rounds had the capacity to cripple nearly any walker that moved, and while he weaved like a blade of grass in the wind, the colonists would find themselves in a whole different ballgame dealing with his shots.

Speed, power, accuracy. Virtues any fighter should live by, ideals they should all strive towards.

And unfortunately for them, I have twice the fight in my pinky than their entire military has!

"WRONG NEIGHBORHOOD, LADIES!" he taunted, partaking in his time-honored tradition of abusing the fact that Walkers had loudspeakers. "I'LL SEND YA BACK IN PIECES! EIRE!"

IC: Christoph Lockheed

Gunfire battered the Lockheed Custom's raised shield, the machine shifting itself behind its right arm to endure the sudden assault of the colonial weapon. Sparks flew off the metal, paint scraping away with every impact. Yet the mech, in its deep Federation navy, was barely affected, light gleaming from behind its visor as it began to trudge forwards at a rapid pace, clearly intent on crushing the colonial Assault-type into little more than scrap metal. Christoph Lockheed, in his ten years of service with the AW Corps, had never been somebody who could be so easily stalled by a hail of fire.

He would decide the flow of the battle. Not the colonials.

And that was exactly what he did.

With a resounding click, the Lockheed Custom began to fire its own torrent of bullets out of the machine gun towards the Assault-type, quickly closing the distance between the two metal titans as it did so. The shield was still raised, sturdy and strong even in the face of the onslaught. And he kept his own attack up in return, seeking to pepper as many holes as possible into his enemy.

Keep firing and moving closer.

That was the basis of his current plan.

Despite all of her dedication and training, Sofia panicked. Nothing had prepared her for this, she doubted anything could have. She was a scout, for God's sake! She didn't belong on the front lines, facing off against mechs of this size and strength.

She retreated away from the Assault-type's line of fire, desperately ducking for cover while trying to overcome the terror clawing at her.

A deafening crack filled the air as the hypersonic shell shattered against the Aronnax, shrapnel digging itself into the ground in front of the machine.  The Aronnax rocked from the impact, and Luna was thrown against her harness, and damage indicators lit up red.  With silent determination she pushed the machine forward, and the Gunner emerged from the cloud of ablated armor, dual railgun raised as the computer set up a firing trajectory towards the offending machine.  The mech's armor was dented where the slug had smashed itself to bits, the concave impression just beneath the right arm, but otherwise undamaged.

With a flash of ionized air, a burst of hypersonic slugs sliced through the air towards the Behemoth, Luna aiming to keep the machine occupied on her, and not the machines that couldn't take many hits like that.

"Stay behind me Scarlette," Luna took a moment to target the sleek machine which was slinking off to the side, it's focus obviously the Riscatto, a single missile launching from the Aronnax's shoulder and streaking towards the Assaulter.  Raising her machine's shield-like appendage to defend against more attacks from the Behemoth, Luna prepared a second volley from her main weapon.

OOC: No Mass Driver update yet, giving Bas time to respond. Here's an update for the other crew.

IC:

The Behemoth's thrusters flared hard to evade the Arronax's attack, sending the machine rocketing towards the right at its maximum speed. Its shield was raised defensively in an effort to redirect the kinetically propelled projectiles with a glancing impact. The Arronax's guns riddled the mech's shield with dents, a few repeated strikes to the same region even puncturing through to riddle to start damaging the armor of the limb behind it, but the Behemoth had come out mostly intact, and more importantly, operational. Nevertheless the Arronax had proven itself to be the unit with both the highest damage output, and the highest armor on the battlefield.

The colonist kept his shield between himself and the hulking Gunner, but he wasn't losing the opportunity the lull in its assault provided. A second 155mm round rocketed towards the Arronax and its pilot, while the under-slung RPG of its assault rifle sped towards the railguns atop its shoulders, seeking to disable the weapon systems.

Given the speed with which its brother responded to the situation, it was clear the colonists were coordinating closely.  Maigo's shots pinged off the armor around its knees, the fact that it was facing the assembled defenders keeping its most armored front towards their attacks. Her Scout, for the moment, was mostly beneath its notice but if she tried to flank it and fire on it from the rear (where its joints were most vulnerable) that would change very quickly. It fired off a round from its cannon as well as its grenade launcher, attacking from the opposite diagonal flank as its brother.

The Assaulter strafing Sofia had been content to leave the Arronax to its larger comrades, but Luna seemed intent on involving herself. Its vulcans fired, shooting down the missile before it could impact directly with its frame, and ignored the minor resulting shrapnel damage in favor of boosting its thruster output and keeping its shield between itself and Sofia. Her rifle fire mostly pinged off of its shields, leaving behind only some modestly sized dents for her efforts. To her dismay she learned in that instant that the Warrior-sized machine was as fast as any Scout.

Pouring a little more energy into its thrusters, it ceased flanking and rocketed towards Sofia and the Arronax's back, stowing its assault rifle and drawing the heat sword from its back. It was keeping its shield in close, and with the speed at which it moved, its flanking maneuver would bring it in close in moments.

Christoph's opponent poured on the speed as well, rocketing forward and around to try and get the drop on the slower machine from a less protected angle, keeping its own shield between it and the rifle-fire that did its best to track the swift Walker.

Ignore me, will you?

She strafed around, still putting shots into the knees. Clip was almost depleted.

"Ryder, your unit will be assisting the base defenders against the unknown Walkers," Jason heard over his communication line, "Do what you can to keep them away from the base, but don't get overzealous. There's no telling how many more are out there."

"Roger," he replied, rolling his eyes behind his helmet. It wasn't that he got overzealous in a fight, he was just efficient. After all, could it really be called a victory if their enemies were able to recover and come back at a later time? He would admit that he knew nothing about the attacking Walkers but it didn't matter. His lips stretched into a predatory grin as Scarlet Lancer stepped onto the linear catapult and was locked into place; he would reduce them all to scrap by himself if he had to.

"Systems green! Catapult ready! Seargent, you are clear for launch!" The Gunner's combat computer shifted the machine into a crouching stance, readying itself for the acceleration.

"Jason Ryder, Scarlet Lancer! It's feeding time!" The bold pilot was pushed back into his seat as the linear catapult shot his Walker forward, hurling it far away from the ship and over the glistening sea water below. With practiced ease, he maneuvered the Lancer into an upright position, thrusters blazing to life to slow its fall. Already, his radar was detecting nearby units and the IFF system was hard at work distinguishing friendly Walkers from targets. Eagerly scanning the battlefield, his eyes fell on one of the unidentified Walkers charging at two Federation machines, a Scout and another Gunner. A delighted shout tore from his throat and he mashed the accelerator, activating the boosters mounted where a pair of railguns once sat on its back. The added thrust pushed his Walker in a direct intercept course, plummeting towards the enemy trying to attack his allies from behind.

IC: Sofia Scarlett (Riscatto) - Outside Base.

Nowhere to run. Nowhere to hide. It was time to fight.

Putting away the rifle, Sofia's mech drew its sword and readied itself to meet the Assault-type's charge. The rifle had proven useless against the colonist's shield, so Sofia just had to hope she'd have an edge in close quarters. The Assault-type had already proven itself to be comparable in speed to a Scout-class, but perhaps it wouldn't be as maneuverable...

#### those things were hella fast.  Tough, too, though she was betting on the smaller mech's shield being the main contributing factor for that.  It couldn't be much more armored than their own Warriors, right?  Not with that kind of speed.  It was still armed to the teeth, if the second slug that shot towards her accompanied by the RPG.

She was ready this time, and the railgun round exploded across the broad, heavily armored surface of her mech's appendage.  The impact shook the ground, but the armor took the brunt of the force.  The second hypersonic round glanced off the angular armor covering the Aronnax's shoulder, as Luna brought her machine into a defensive crouch, shrapnel digging into the plating.  The grenades, on the other hand, were dealt with differently, with the Aronnax's close-in weapon systems screaming to life as the paired rotary cannons sent a hail of explosive rounds to detonate the warheads mid-flight.  Slowly, as she was still drawing power away from the drive systems, Luna advanced forward towards the pair of offending machines.

A second burst from her paired railguns shot towards her current target, this time with some actual intent in damaging the machine, as the flurry of projectiles flew towards the machine's own weapon system, spreading the burst just enough to compensate to any more dodges to the side.  Meanwhile, she prepared two more ground-to-ground warheads, selecting a very specific flight plan.  She continued to stomp forward, and would be within melee distance of the second Behemoth soon enough.

He will continue moving in that manner unless I let down on the assault.

Well.

Christoph did not cease firing.

However ...

The Custom's backpack-mounted shot lancer immediately fired, an electromagnetically-powered javelin slamming into the ground right in front of his enemy and digging itself deep into the earth.

IC (As Rojo-Schmetterling)

At a glance, it looked like....well whatever his actual designation was, he'd earned the name "Mad Irishman'. The thought was an idle one, as sheer instinct guided the former pirates maneuvering away from the formation-and towards whatever bit of cover he could find. He turned over the enemy walkers in his head. The Colonials sure liked their shiny bits.

Behemoths. Big, mean mothers. Irish had the right idea though. Even as he started to slide into cover, Rojo activated the Schemetterling's missile system, sighted in the trackers and let two anti-armor missiles fly at the nearest Behemoth. First one would take out the shield, if the pilot was quick enough. Second would finish the job. If the pilot wasn't quick, well, nothing wrong with a little insurance.

Edited by Havelock Vetinari

I believe you find life such a problem because you think there are the good people and the bad people. You are wrong, of course. There are, always and only, the bad people, but some of them are on opposite sides.

IC:

Spread was too wide to dodge, no time to get out of range, so the first Behemoth took the best option remaining; making sure its riot shield was between itself the Arronax, and hoping for the best. The wider spread, as much as it was a curse, was also a blessing. The rounds slammed into the shield, and in several cases tore through, rendered the battered device a mangled shell of its former self. The rounds that penetrated raked across the Behemoth's frame, stripping away armor in its path. The armor remaining on its left arm, in particular, was fractured and blown away. It maintained its basic functions, but that limb wasn't going to be doing any advanced manipulations. Not that it needed to.

Seeing the Arronax approaching, it drew back a little further to send another railgun shot rocketing towards its center mass. Best case scenario, the projectile would meet its target and give Luna a really bad day. Worst case scenario it would hit the Arronax's shield and remove that as an issue. Moreover, after two volleys, its pilot had learned something important; the Arronax didn't reload its primary weapon system nearly as fast as a standard railgun. Knowing how much time he had between shots, he peppered the Gunner with bursts from his rifle and a second shot from the railgun. As soon as the second shot left the chamber he began taking evasive maneuvers, aiming to prevent the Arronax from getting a good shot lined up.

The second Behemoth took another shot at the hulking Federation Walker, but its attention was diverted by a smaller machine attempting to flank it. Its heavy assault rifle whipped around when it turned, spraying the path in front of Maigo's Scout with munitions. Its pilot wasn't an idiot; you didn't aim at a small, moving Walker where it was. You aimed where it was going to be. Maigo had earned its attention, and she wasn't going to like that outcome. The armor surrounding its knees seemed a little worse for wear, but that was the extent of its injuries.

The Assaulter fighting Sofia, meanwhile, was having a much more interesting time. Sensors showed another IFF dropping from the sky and the colonist pilot broke off its assault, firing thrusters to propel it back to a safe distance to reassess the situation.

Its twin wasn't having as good a day. It had, just barely, fired its thrusters in time to maneuver around the shot lancer but the evasion cost it speed. A reduction that came at the price of several bullets punching deep into its shield, and a few more making their way into its shoulder. The Walker poured on the speed again, this time to draw back and evade Christoph's attacks. As long as it kept its distance, it was too fast for the Captain to hit. But at such ranges it couldn't hops to punch through the Lockheed Custom's shield.

*****

The Assaulters, with as much haste as they could must, fired their maneuvering thrusters at maximum to propel them towards the sides and ducked behind their shields. One managed to evade the incoming HEAT round entirely, the shell missing it by a narrow margin, but the other felt the full impact on its shield. Its thrusters kept it moving forward, but the impact visibly slowed it for a moment and the round left a sizable, scorched dent in the Assaulter's shield. It strafed right, firing short bursts at the assembled Walkers while preventing them from having a stationary target.

The Behemoths didn't miss a beat, however, and one drew its riot shield close as it send bursts from its heavy assault rifle towards the noisy Irishman. It could tell, from how his machine was outfitted, that trying to hit him with the railgun would be pointless. The other Behemoth didn't have that problem, instead using its shield to tank the rifle-fire coming its way and sink another shot from its railgun into a 1st Squadron Gunner, effectively removing the machine from the equation.

It would have been in trouble, too, if it weren't for the Assaulter that had used it for cover when approaching. Schmetterling's missile went completely unnoticed by the Behemoth pilot, so it fell to the Assaulter's vulcans to intercept the projectiles. The volley of fire removed one from the running before it was ever a threat, but the second was detonated a little too close to the larger Walker for comfort. Rojo's mech was officially slated for demolition as the Assalter continued its intervention, firing off a few bursts at the former pirate's cover.

**********

"Sir, Meteor and Akai are meeting with heavy resistance. The Federation base is heavily fortified." One of the Liberator's bridge officers stated, turning their attention to the man in the captain's chair. "Two new IFFs since the attack began. Reinforcements won't be very far out."

"I understand, Lieutenant." The man replied, rising from his seat and turning towards the door. "I want my machine in catapult four when I get there. Pick off the base's defenses, and as soon as you can, start bombarding the facility. It doesn't matter if we win on the ground, but I don't want one girder of that base standing."

IC Maigo Koizumi(Kenkaku):

Conversely, as a Scout pilot, you never held to a single line. Dexterity and speed were about all you had as a Scout, and Maigo used this to her advantage, changing course from around to forward. White hot metal flashed to her left, and she fired the remaining shots into the knee joint before dropping the rifle and pulling the Heat Blade Katana from her hip. Speed and dexterity. Thrusters pulsed as she dashed forward, the blade heating to a cool blue as it drew a glowing arc where the knee joint of the Behemoth was.The long blue of the scarf whipped in the sudden movement fluttering behind the fast moving Scout.

It was risky business, and Maigo knew it full well.

IC: Sofia Scarlett (Riscatto) - Battlefield.

She knew better than to run out into the open in pursuit of the larger enemy, so she kept her distance, keeping one eye on the retreating Assault-type, while also watching for any of her allies who might be in need of some backup.

IC: Marcus

An indicator sounded, the computer registering another round being fired by the target.  With a frantic energy born from the desire to not be blown to shrapnel, Luna jammed the control surfaces covering her hands to the side, and the Walker's limbs responded in kind.  The round tore through the leading edge of her hastily drawn shield, warping the hardened alloy back, and continued on through to impact the side of the machine's torso.  She wasn't nearly fast enough to stop the projectile completely, but the hardened armor could take the hit.  Mostly.  The impact hadn't slowed her head-long charge one bit, and she fired off the two missiles that she had readied moments before.

The two warheads arced upward, gaining altitude before splitting off from one another, as if she had targeted the two Behemoths individually.  This changed suddenly, though, as they both started to close inward as they headed to the ground, converging on opposite sides of the first Behemoth.

Even as she fired off the two missiles, the second shot flew past her machine, missing it by inches.  Though even if it hit, Luna probably wouldn't have noticed.  She was too busy bringing her Walker in low, taking the round from the second Behemoth on her shield, the defensive technique not going to work for much longer, as the heavily armored surface was beginning to buckle and crack from the repeated strikes.

Not that it mattered much, as Luna shoulder-charged into the Behemoth, which had turned to fire on Magio, attempting to at least knock the smaller machine off it's feet, if she didn't manage to clamp onto it with the hydraulic claw.

Jason smirked when he saw the enemy Walker backpedaling and diverted full power to thrusters, slowing Scarlet Lancer's drop to a steady fall. The Gunner's knees bent to absorb the impact of landing, the ground cracking beneath its tremendous weight before it straightened up to its full height. Optics lit up as the Lancer glared down at its smaller opponent and he gave the opposing mech a once-over. "Don't know who you are," he remarked, "But it don't really matter to me. Let's see how well you fight."

OOC: Relatively small response, while I give the other side of things time to respond and prep a larger post.

NPC IC:

Maigo's blade bit into metal, but it wasn't what she expected. If her opponent had been a Gunner, perhaps, her charge would have worked. But the Behemoth's artillery belied its speed and moving a shield didn't take much time at all. Her katana had struck home against the Walker's shield, biting through the topmost layer and wedging itself into the layers below. Pulling it out wouldn't be a problem, one of the benefits of the smooth cut a heated blade provided, but there was one issue. She didn't have the time.

The Behemoth's response was succinct, swift, and efficient. Attack vector recognized, attack intercepted, and counterattack initiated. It was already facing the right way, and Maigo's Scout had helpfully gotten close enough that it couldn't miss. The time between when her blow connected and when heavy assault grade bullets tore through the air was almost nonexistent. Less than the length of the Behemoth's own arm away, evading the hot lead tearing into the vital systems of the lightly-armored Walker's waist joints. If Maigo was lucky her machine would still be on its feet. Even in that best case scenario, its maneuverability would be decimated.

The Scout pilot would have been much, much worse for wear if a shrill warning siren hadn't alerted the pilot to a very, very large mass hurtling like a train towards his position. Not nearly soon enough to evade, but enough to react. A quick blast from his thrusters brought the Behemoth about to face the Arronax head-on, even before he opened the throttle wide. Rather than evade he charged in to meet the Arronax head on, too close to be caught in its claw. Much like the unstoppable force hitting the immovable object, the Gunner hit and it hit hard causing metal to buckle and crunch. The Behemoth was pushed back, its armor dented and stressed, but it was still upright. Deep furrows dug themselves in the ground, even though the cockpit, as these titans exerted their full force upon one another. The colonist mech protested through groaning servos and screeching metal, but its pilot ignored it.

The Arronax's approach had been unexpected. Inconvenient, too. But like Maigo before her, Luna had sealed her fate. She probably didn't even notice the cannon braced against the Arronax's torso until it went off. A massive shell accelerated to supersonic speeds slammed into the Gunner's already battered frame, followed by a second an instant later, and a third. Without the need to readjust his aim, its pilot was free to fire as fast as the cannon could be loaded.

Its brother, meanwhile, rocketed back to try and buy itself some time to shoot down the ground-to-ground missiles streaking towards its position. Its spread of rifle-fire was only partially successful. One missile detonated far enough away for its payload to bounce harmlessly off of the Behemoth's armor, but the second struck the ground on target. Despite the colonist's efforts to minimize the damage, putting some distance between the missile and her machine, it didn't do much good. Flames and shrapnel tore into its right leg, scorching and piercing the armor. It was still on its feet but responsiveness from its right ankle was greatly diminished.

But the Behemoth wasn't out of the fight yet. While the Assaulter squared off with the Scarlet Lancer, keeping the larger mech at a distance, it lined up a shot at the Gunner's back and let loose. The Assaulter's pilot broke radio silence for the first time as soon as the projectile was in the air, with a tone radiating casual superiority.

"No. Let's see how you die."

IC Maigo:

Gritting her teeth, Maigo slapped the response for the multitude of warning lights, as the waist locked up to prevent additional damage.

The wind whipped the scarf up, and righteous fury flowed through Maigo.

"You ######, thAT'S MY MECH!!!!"

The lighter mech planted it's feet, and the Katana slid back, then flipped around, as Maigo risked losing the remaining joints in a charge forward, thrusters aiding in speeding her toward her target, as the point of the heat blade katana stabbed at the back of the Behemoth's knee joint.

Kasper Harken

IC: While the advancing mechs had been disabled and the Federation troops fell back Kasper had been busy using his stealth and speed to send a volley of rounds into the engines of the advancing troop carriers. His weapon had been designed to punch through the armor on enemy Walkers. The metal plating on the carriers were designed to protect the users against small arms fire.

By the time he was done updating the battlenet and falling back to where the battle now raged things seem to have taken a turn for the worse. Never one to take more time than needed observing a situation the invisible sniper immediately began acting. The Behemoth currently unloading it's cannon into the Arronax's gut soon found itself the target of an entire magazine of Gungnir rounds.

Right into the ammo feed of it's currently very still cannon.
