Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has announced three new games for LEGO's new property, Legends of China Chima. The Speedorz racing game should be available soon on LEGO.com and iOS devices, while Traveler's Tales will once again be partnering with LEGO to create Lego Legends of Chima: Laval's Journey. Even more ambitious, LEGO and TT will return to the MMO world with the free-to-play Lego Legends of Chima Online.http://www.bzpower.com/story.php?ID=5906]View the full article[/url]

Of course we do. It's just a shame that they had to make the new MMOs during a period of time when they seem to have shifted their focus to the younger part of their audience. :annoyed:

Of course we do. It's just a shame that they had to make the new MMOs during a period of time when they seem to have shifted their focus to the younger part of their audience. :annoyed:

I'm all for what you might call a slightly more mature story, but in my opinion Lego Universe was rather dark for kids, what with all the "creatures of darkness". Even Ninjago was surprisingly dark at first, with the "Lord of Darkness" and army of skeletons. And now they have LOTR... Not that I'm not happy to have it myself, but...

Hopefully LOCO (ha, did I figure that out first?) won't be too simple, although I must admit it won't make much difference to me as I probably won't be playing it either way. Legends of Chima doesn't seem to me to be any "less mature" than Ninjago, though, just different.

I am curious to hear more about the TT Games one. Will it be like Lego Battles, or more like the typical games? Either way, it sounds pretty good.

So when will we see Lego Avengers: The Videogame, hmm?

EDIT 2/5/2013: Hah, called it!

I would not have chosen Chima for an MMO. That said, I am willing to give it a shot. My impressions of Chima so far have been rather poor. The comic was of little quality, the story it presented the most basic it could possibly be. The sets look acceptable. No, Chima looks to be average, or below. But I am willing to try it. Perhaps they will go into the story more deeply in the MMO.

In any case, the fact that Lego is putting out another MMO says to me that they are going to have Chima stick around for a while.

And also, incidently, why people shouldn't be acting like Bionicle's "dead" -- it's still continuing in story form unlike just about any other line and has a very strong chance of coming back some day, so it's wisest for people to remain interested in LEGO, showing their support for HF, etc. The best way, as we've shown long ago, for Bionicle to come back, is for us to be on here showing support for HF and Bionicle at the same time, accepting both, knowing that one day HF too will lose the "new factor" and eventually Bionicle will be ready to come back.

If you should be doing your homework right now, copy and paste this into your signature.

I'm really excited for this. Certainly something I'll play. It'll also be a great way to get lots of activity on TCW! :D

But once again, a news report I sent in that I'm not sourced for.

Hmmm.... If Chima is going to be an MMO, Lego has either been working on it secretly for some time, is planning on having Chima stick around for a number of years, or does not plan on game development taking as long as it did for Lego Universe.  I could never play Lego Universe, because it was cancelled a few months before I got a laptop capable of supporting it.  Hopefully I'll be able to play Chima.

Presumably, Chima tribes will work like Lego Universe factions, or something.

Certainly the TT Games one could be interesting, assuming they do it right. I'd quite like to see something different from the same formula all the licensed games follow, similar to Bionicle Heroes. I'd reference the Ninjago game(s?) but I have no idea what they're like. I'd ask for something with gameplay akin to Darksiders but I get the idea that might be a little too hopeful.

Seems they're riding on an awful lot of faith with this line. My guess is they're trying to compete with the Thundercats reboot. That, or they just wanted an excuse to make Fabuland heads again and found it tested good with kids. Either way, best of luck to the LEGO furries.

It is, however, almost certainly trying to capitalize on the popularity anthropomorphic animal heroes currently have, considering shows like the Thundercats reboot, Kung Fu Panda, and TMNT coming out of the woodwork in the past couple years.I also guarantee they're not just "riding on faith". Not only does TLG surely do copious market research, but they also have plenty of recent themes to look back on to see just what sells and what doesn't.

The comics in the magazines are lliterally always like that. If we judged lines by their comics every theme would get a D-.

Chima has a tv show coming, and the information in the website is some of the most in-depth we've gotten for a Lego line. There are a lot of things that will present Chima's storyline better than that comic, we just haven't seen most fo them yet.

Thundercats....not my favorite, the reboot or the original. If I'm not mistaken, the reboot came out a year or two ago, didn't it? But then again, LEGO themes are made two years before release.

... Another MMO? Hopefully they learned from Lego Universe.

I have to admit that I'm surprised by the amount of marketing that LEGO is doing for this line. I guess they feel that this is one of the more original lines they've done recently, and they want people to know it.

An MMO? Isn't the server cost going to be pricey? I though that was the main reason LU was shut down - too much money going to the servers and not enough coming in.

Should be interesting, although I hope it will be good. When it is done by TT games, the games have a tendency to glitch. =P (If you remember LEGO Stars Wars on the DS, you will remember that it used to glitch quite a bit, and any other LEGO game I've played that were also done by TT, the game has glitched. It might be pure coincedence, but nonetheless, it has occurred to me.)

On the day the wall came down / They threw the locks onto the ground
And with glasses high / We raised a cry / For freedom had arrived

On the day the wall came down / The ship of fools had finally run aground
Promises lit up the night / Like paper doves in flight

I dreamed you had left my side / No warmth, not even pride remained
And even though you needed me / It was clear that I could not do a thing for you

Now life devalues day by day / As friends and neighbors turn away
And there's a change that even with regret / Cannot be undone

Now frontiers shift like desert sands / While nations wash their bloodied hands
Of loyalty, of history / In shades of grey

I woke to the sound of drums / The music played, the morning sun streamed in
I turned and I looked at you / And all but the bitter residues slipped away

slipped away...

From my experience, Lego games not done by TT Games glitch far more than those done by them. Just look at the Mata Nui Online Game 2, Rock Raiders, Bionicle: Quest for the Toa, etc. I haven't had much trouble with glitches in Lego games by TT Games, and those glitches I have experienced were typically the "huh, would you look at that" variety rather than the game-breaking variety.

Also, two more things:

  • I just got LEGO Lord of the Rings for PC not too long ago, and it hasn't glitched once.
  • Having it done by TT Games means we'll almost certainly get it on all platforms, unlike any other LEGO game not done by TT.

An MMO? Isn't the server cost going to be pricey? I though that was the main reason LU was shut down - too much money going to the servers and not enough coming in.

Presumably it will be simpler so it'll function like the Bionicle comics -- helping advertise the sets, so it can be supported by set sales. We shouldn't expect another LU to come out of this in terms of complexity or necessarily even quality. However, LU made the massive error of not centering around sets -- the later Ninjago content kinda tried to rescue this doomed model but probably too little too late. There should have been a major Maelstrom-themed set release to coincide with it. Since this is about a major set line, it might work.

We should also probably expect this to be temporary like the Drome; when the sets end the support will end -- but more of a planned end rather than a failed attempt at a longer-lasting game as with LU.

They may be incorporating other lessons learned into it too.

I'll most-likely be getting one or two limited beta accounts for Legends of Chima: Online in the next few days. :D I reached out to a contact of mine at LEGO over a social network, and he's already sent out the request email to Warner Entertainment. :) I'll keep you guys posted, though I won't be allowed to share screenshots or video recordings.  -_-

If they do it as well as the Ninjago show, it'll be pretty good. I still laugh at "Grand Sensei Dareth" of the "Mojo Dojo", one day to be the Brown Ninja. And the later episodes of the show were really well done, in my opinion. The plot certainly became more and more interesting as it went along, and the action sequences got better and better.

Yeah, the show was pretty bad. I do hope it improves, though. As you said, Ninjago got a lot better as it went on. (Dareth is so my favorite character). Hopefully Chima's show will get a lot better, though as it is, yeah. It is not amazing. I'm more interested in the sets anyway.
