  1. Yes to your question, unless you count the Toa of Gravity Larika mentioned killing off-hand a few chapters earlier in the same book Krakua was introduced.

You know now that I think about it, I get that the colors fit his element, but all the gray is a bit drab; a colorful Krakua is definitely something I'd like to see.

  2. It may help to think about which cause you want to advance, rather than which organization. What societal issues particularly resonate with you? What struggles have you, your family, or your friends faced that you wouldn't want others to experience? (No need to answer an internet stranger of course, but thinking about answers might help get the ball rolling.)

Thank you for your reply!  Thinking it over has really helped me get some ideas about who donate to and what kind of organizations I should be looking at.

  3. Popping in to recommend that you sit yourself down and watch Blade Runner 2049. Very worthy sequel to the original, I'd say its better.

Also, man, the Alien timeline is a mess if we try to make AVP fit in there. For the sake of a sensible continuity I think they should be ignored.

Sure, I'll add it to the list.

I don't know it's not impossible to get everything to fit together.  Although, I guess at the end of the day the AVP movies add more to the Predator continuity then the Alien one.

  4. :kaukau: Holy cow, that was back in 2009?  It's been a decade already?

I still have Malum, by the way.  He's wickedly cool.  Sure, he could have been Mata red, but at least he wasn't 50% gray.  I was definitely on the bandwagon of people who despised the overuse of gray and other colorless pieces from 2003-onward.

I would personally love it if Bionicle comics were released again, with multiple different titles so that things like this guy in the background could be explored.  Perhaps it wouldn't be a hit, but one could always dream.  You never know, though.  It seems that after 30 years, Hollywood begins to cash in on the nostalgia of your childhood.  So by that logic, in 2030's we just might see a giant Bionicle revival that could rival anything, including minor details like the Glatorian in Malum's background.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking while writing this.   :P Crazy.

I ended up getting Gresh over Malum back in the day, probably because I liked his character more back then.  Probably should have gotten both (and Strakk too).

I remember watching a video on Youtube where the guy mentioned how it takes thirty years for the kids who grow up in one era to become the main makers of pop culture.  Hence, why Marty Mcfly travels back to the 50's and why the guys in "Predator" (1987) are listening to "Long Tall Sally" (1957).  (And it's also why we've been in an "80's craze" for the last decade and why 90's nostalgia is starting get big).

ANYWAY, I would read new Bionicle comics; especially ones about Snow N. Ice and Blaze.

I think I'm getting deja vu. Is there any reason you posted this entry twice with two different names?

Da fluff?  Yeah, I know after I had already written this up and linked all the pictures I lost my internet connection and wasn't sure if it got through.  Apparently, it did.  :P

As for the different names, I'm just one of those people who never knows when to stop editing their writing.

  5. I vaguely recall an old topic about characters in the background of the instructions, although I can't remember if it was for the Glatorian, or if both of those were noticed. However, considering the obsessive dedication of fans back in the day, I'd think that someone probably called it out. :P

Looking back, it doesn't look like the instructions for Tarix or Gresh had anything of interest in the background. The Skrall does have some sort of scorpion shape at the top of the stairs in the background, and it looks like there's some sort of snake in the sand behind the Vorox, so maybe the artists were trying to come up with some strange elemental enemies to use for Bara Magna, and for fire and ice they ended up being humanoids.

Still, cool stuff, nothing I'd personally noticed on my own.

    :music:

I remember people mentioning the ice Glatorian at the time, but unlike them I never heard about or noticed the fire Glatorian.

I vaguely remember the scorpion and snake, but I just think the humanoids are cooler because they're all shrouded and mysterious and also because they could be characters from 2009 that weren't featured in story.  In fact, I just had the idea this morning that maybe the fire Glatorian is one of the rookies killed in "Raid on Vulcanus".

Sure I know these guys were just included for flavor, but still it's fun to dream.

  6.

Otherwise, here were some of the other movies that were among the best of the year but were not nominated for Best Picture. A Quiet Place, Crazy Rich Asians, The Mule, Ready Player One, 12 Strong, First Man, The 15:17 to Paris, and Game Night. I highly recommend all of these.

"A Quiet Place" is my number two movie of the year (behind "Overlord", but that's probably just because I'm a sucker for a good throwback 80's action movie), I thought "12 Strong" was fine by modern war movie standards, but nothing special.  I've been meaning to watch "Crazy Rich Asians" and "Ready Player One" for a while.  I forget "Game Night" existed, but I was supposed to watch that some time too.

  7. +1 for the sentiments of the freedom of speech, but a symbolic -1 for not having the same beliefs as me when it come to respecting certain laws, but I take back a -1/2 because I can tell your belief is thought-out and fair.

Anyway, here's the first quote that came to mind while reading this:

An associate at a Washington law firm once told me that a Chinese intern at the same firm confessed her perplexity that many Americans criticized President Clinton so harshly and vocally. When told this was common she replied, “But why does the government let them?” Now that’s the voice of the statist.

  8. I'm all for the John Williams state anthems, especially since the Maryland anthem is just "O Christmas Tree" but about the tyranny of Abraham Lincoln (we weren't even a confederate state, so why our song is anti-Lincoln is beyond me).

Maryland was a border slave state before the war and many Confederate sympathizers caused enough of a fuss in the first days of the war that a Union military presence was necessary to keep from joining The Confederacy.

(That song does, however, sound like a prime contender for being replaced by a John Williams one.)

  9. I first heard Lights back in early 2015 (how I don't remember), and wasn't a big fan of "Little Machines" at the time.  Still, I gave the singles off "Skin and Earth" a chance and really loved "Savage", which unfortunately didn't get a spot on my favorite songs of 2017 list since it got edged out by "Moonshine" and "Fight Club".

Which, reminds me that I still need to listen to her first two albums and give "Little Machines" another chance.
