  1. In my first batch, I got all six Toa (including a duplicate Tahu, which I purchased accidentally) alongside the Protector of Ice, Protector of Stone and Protector of Earth. I built Tahu first, as he was my first Toa Mata back in 2001.
  2. Congrats on getting it. Did you happen to get it from a store, or did you find it online? I got it on eBay, from a seller in Croatia. Free postage! Same here, mate. It was a good deal. I'd say we're pretty fortunate considering that there's currently no sign of it officially releasing elsewhere other than Russia. Which sucks big-time. I was hoping it'd be like the Hero Pack, so I could order a second MMvSG in order to obtain it. But no, of course not.

  4. So, I got my villain pack! Sadly, the skull mask was done in the cheaper, much less lustrous looking pearl gold ABS, which is rather disappointing. But, it still looks pretty nice. The card stand was rather fiddly to put together, but looks alright all things considered. I appreciate the little Technic pieces, too.
  5. Kiina was fantastic. She's the only post-2007 set I've kept aside from my three Stars figures.
  6. I read that title and thought this would be about Bionicle otherkin.
  7. Clearly there was going to be a Toa of Space in this colour scheme.
  8. In the end, a Self-MOC is an avatar you "play" as, much like furries do with their "Fursonas". It's just a way to identify yourself without identifying yourself, if you catch my drift. The extent at which you project your true self into your Self-MOC is your choice - you can be as honest or wishful as you like. I am certainly not as stocky or strong-willed as my character, Araun, but those are definitely characteristics I want to improve about myself.
  9. Thematically, the idea of robot dudes and dudettes using elemental magic is just awesome in-and-of itself. The universes of both G1 and G2 are really interesting, with lots of possibilites for amazing things. I also love the idea of a central team of heroes, as opposed to one main protagonist - Toa teams are kinda like the Avengers, or the Power Rangers. And of course, placing mechanoid characters in natural environments is a really nice contrast that I really appreciate. In regards to story, G1 and G2 both rock. G1's overarching evil of Makuta really sewed it together, although that was kinda weakened for me when we learned Makuta was one of many. The theme of Mata Nui is unusual for something so Sci-Fi, being for the most part a deity. The various beasts and villains the Toa, Matoran and Turaga faced up against were all fascinating. As for G2, it's awesome to basically have the whole idea restarted from scratch. G2 is somewhat more simplistic, but I think that's fantastic for fans, young and old, as that leaves a lot that we're free to interpret as we wish. Much like with Hero Factoy, it means many headcanons are as good as canon. I hope G2 remains seperate from G1 (which I'm confident will be the case), as I'm enjoying seeing it grow into its own thing. And as a product, I love the imagination that goes into the designs. They're not meant to look like humans, but they're also not really meant to look like traditional robots, either. This is on top of the fact that Bionicle is a Lego IP, so therefore said figures are insanely customiseable and interchangable. I much prefer G2 sets however, as G1 started to feel very rehash-y in its later years, and its style was sometimes difficult to work with in a cohesive manner. Now, I've heard people complain that you can't do much with the CCBS (which I'd argue against), but what other current action figure building system gives you as much freedom? You'd have to search long and hard to find something on-par with Bionicle in that regard - even Gunpla is arguably more restrictive.
  10. Thank you! Yes, the stand is a little obtrusive, and for that I apologise. It was the best way I could display the model in the poses I wanted I'm afraid. Maybe if Lego makes clear Technic pieces, I could display models better in future.
  11. Anyway, I don't really have any headcanons about G2. I guess the WIP backstory of my Self-MOC is kinda headcanon-ish, dunno. One thing I can say is that I percieve G2 characters to be more mechanical/technoorganic than biomechanical.
  12. My Self-MOC is Toa Araun, as I like the ice and the aesthetic of the Hau and Mask of Fire. G2 iteration - Master of Ice (Version 2) G1 iteration - Toa of Ice He has an unusual development history, first appearing as "Toa Aaron" back in 2002, who was simply Kopaka with no shield and a white Hau. I wrote more about Araun's story and development as a model here.
  13. Recently, NASA's Hubble Telescope set its gaze upon the planetary nebula PK 329-02.2, AKA Menzel 2. Here's the image Hubble sent back to Earth. Looks familiar, huh?
  14. I have a few... Like many have said, the Bohrok Kal arc. Even as a kid, it felt very cheap. The Voya Nui arc. It had its highlights, such as the Piraka posing as Toa on their arrival, but overall it stuck out like a sore thumb.Matoro's death, because people won't shut up about it.I didn't like that the Toa Ignika was just kinda there... And then wasn't. It was odd.The Bara Magna arc. If it had gone on for longer, I may have come to like it. Otherwise though, a completely new world with new-but-basically-the-same-thing-as-before, no Kanohi and no real diversity of environment was disappointing. As for sets... The Toa Nuva's masks were awful. They themselves were fine, but their masks weren't. Big and gloopy wasn't really a very... Bionicle-y aesthetic. The Bohrok Kal. Even as a kid, I thought them being a rehash was a little disappointing. The Toa Inika. Eugh. They marked the beginning of Bionicle's decline with a pearly white grin on their rubbery, useless faces.Kalmah was the worst Barraki. The 2008 Matoran were disappointing. As were the Agori.Toa Mata Nui was hideous.
  15. Matoro. If he hadn't have died, he wouldn't be everyone's "precious cinnamon roll baby uwu".
  16. As a kid, yes, although it was more me giving them voices while playing with them - Bionicle is the main reason I can do an American accent now, as most of the voices I gave my characters during roleplay were Americanised. Also, there was a short period at school where I'd have a figure on my desk with me, who I'd tell to sit down/stand guard while posing them appropriately. As I got older however, playing with my figures became more of a rarity. Nowadays, the most I'll do is fiddle about with them and pose them in new ways, or set off their functions. I may mimick a character's voice while trying to percieve what they're like, but not often. Most of what I say to them now is expletive, generally when they topple over or crumple.
  17. I did try that actually. It looked awful.
  18. Thank you! CCBS is truly wonderful, and I love working with it.
  19. Same place as the 4M shells on his feet and upper arms - XSZ's Iron Man ultrabuild.
  20. Mata nui was a pivotal character in G1 Bionicle's lore, often portrayed in a light similar to that of a deity. In 2008 however, the mystery of just what Mata Nui truly was was laid to rest, with the reveal of the GSR. But not long after this reveal, the spirit of the machine was ejected into the depths of space, trapped inside the powerful Kanohi Ignika. It crash landed on the barren wasteland of Bara Magna, and constructed a body for its host - Mata Nui himself. We finally had a face to the Great Spirit. But before 2009, how did you envision Mata Nui? What did you thing he looked like? Did you think we'd ever find out? Were you disappointed when you discovered the truth?
