As it happens, they actually are meant to be alien spiders. Bloody dangerous ones, too, according to some old catalogue. Anyway, I have this set. It fell victim to the Dlakii curse: it disappeared into my stock of LEGO, never to be seen intact again. Shame, because it was really quite awesome.
