  1. I started reading The Windup Girl, but had to stop due to school having to take the priority. It seems like a really rich, if super dense, book and I'd love to take it back up again.

It's fricking dense. I'm about a hundred pages in and really getting into it. It's a little outside my usual wheelhouse (I'm a pulp scifi man through and through), but there's a definite Ursala K LeGuin feel to this that's making it a joy.

  2. And I just spent the last two days playing the entire game. It was fantastic.

And no I definitely don't have a problem spending that many hours straight playing the game. It was only 15 hours in 30 hour or so period.

Only? =P I sunk close to eighteen hours on my first play through. Such a friggin' beautiful game.

  3. I just saw it too. I also have thoughts.

    Wolverine was a great non-sequitur.

I enjoyed Quicksilver a lot more in this one than the last. Also, really like them using Sweet Dreams for the music.

Sophie Turner is perfectly cast as Jean Grey, albeit the occasional accent slip.

Magneto seemed to be in a different, far more tragic movie than everyone else; only to end up going on the exact same character journey he had last time. And before.

    Seriously, not enough Jubilee.

Or Storm. And Psylocke had about as many lines as Jubilee. So.

Apocalypse was cool, but I blame that on Oscar Isaac since the actual character was really one note.

The movie left me really wanting a miniseries type thing about the young X-Men, because I wanted to spend a lot more time with Scott, Jean, Kurt, and Jubilee than with Mystique and Magneto doing the thing again.

  4. Yo, not sure if this is BZP's problem or my computer's problem, but your post loads for about a second then disappears from the box completely. :(

EDIT: Same thing happens if I try and view the post from your actual blog, rather than the individual post's page. Other posts disappear too, such as 'Order, and Narrative Thereof' and 'Superhero Stardom (A Response)'. The titles stay but the content itself is gone.

Weeeeeeird. Even on www.essaysnotrants.net ? 'cuz it looks fine for me; also checked on Safari, Chrome, and Firefox.

  5. I don't know much about the details of this season since I am like a season behind on the show. XD

But isn't this the first season that they hadn't adapt at least some of the plot from the books? I seen to recall reading that somewhere, so that might be why it feels like it is missing something. *shrugs*

Yeah, it is. It could be, but GRRM is still helping the showrunners, so, I dunno. I just want more conflict!

  6. But it's all gearing up and not much doing. Very few of the episodes' has a solid arc. Like this week we had:

    • Sansa confronts Baelish (and gets info)
    • Another day in the life of Bran
    • Daenerys has goodbye to Jorah
    • Sansa and Jon plot and leave (to go somewhere)
    • Arya gets beat up with sticks and given a mission
    • Tyrion and Varys meet a Red Woman
    • Hodor holds a door.

Sure, there are a lot of cool moments, but outside of Bran's arc (which arguably lacked a bit more build up), everything just felt like more things going. There aren't any obstacles. Jon and Sansa make their plans and go without a hitch. Stuff happens, but there's no 'but.' I want my intrigue!

  7. Wait, I actually read the article and I honestly didn't make it far into it but I agree with you 100% now. I thought pretty much everyone agreed that "star culture" as he put it, was generally a bad thing? No?

That was (one of) my big issues with The Revenant: It was just watching Leo act. Tom Hardy friggin' disappeared into his role, but Leo was still Leo (acting the crud out of his role, yes, but it was him trying).

And Zarkan, I agree with you wholeheartedly.

  8. Fun is when you...

    Fun is...it's sort of like...

    What is fun...

Let me spell it for you!

F is for Friends who do stuff together

U is for You and me

N is Anywhere and anytime at all DOWN HERE IN THE DEEP BLUE SEA

(I love your work please forgive me)

In all actuality, that's actually a pretty good commentary on how you can't really describe proper what fun is. Good job SpongeBob.
