  1. I had a question about the placement of a topic I wanted to make. I'm going to every day of San Diego Comic-Con, and I wanted to create a topic recording and discussing all the new information there; however, much of LEGO's presence there is on Ninjago. Should I make it in the General LEGO forum, even though it's going to be mostly Ninjago, the Ninjago forum and cut out the other content, or split it between the two? Thanks!
  2. So with the conclusion of the seventh season of Ninjago recently, we're all left wondering what will become of Wu, the Time Twins, and the Vermillion; how the ninja will move forward with Lloyd filling the role of Master; and when the new Samurai X will drop the act and be revealed as P.I.X.A.L. already (the only acceptable alternative, in my opinion, being that it's really Seliel from the Who is the Phantom Ninja? graphic novel finally coming to television). However, the season also raised some questions through its depiction of the Elemental Masters of the past, who appeared both in flashback and due to time travel. The most pressing question is with regards to the previous Elemental Master of Earth, and where he stands in relation to Cole. Given that he appears to be roughly equivalent in age to Ray, Maya, and Jay's as-yet unnamed mother, it would make the most sense for him to be Cole's father. Problem is, Cole's father has already been identified as Lou, leader of the Royal Blacksmiths quartet, who has demonstrated no hints of history as an Elemental Master. Most likely explanations for this are that either he IS the former Elemental Master of Earth and the writers simply haven't written it into the series yet, or he himself might be related to this former master. Going off the weird timeline/aging process associated with the Elemental Masters of old, it would seem most likely that he could either have been the Master's son and already born at the time of the battle with Acronix and Krux, with Lou having Cole around the time that Kai and Cole were born to his father's comrades, or else possibly the brother of the Master of Earth, both of them being sons of a previous Master of Earth with Lou's bloodline allowing Cole to inherit the powers. The second question comes with regard to an Elemental Master of Ninja with no relation to the present group of ninja-in fact, the question is who IS he related to. I'm referring to an Elemental Master who has been seen wearing a gray helmet, some armor with his brown clothing, and carries a spear. Now, previously I've seen some consider this guy the Elemental Master of Gravity, due to his ability to float in the air, and thus an ancestor of the turban wearing and highly unoriginally named Gravis. However, during the most recent season, when he first appears in a group lineup with the Elemental Masters, Wu's list of acknowledged Elemental Powers includes not Gravity, but Metal. Considering that Karloff, the current Master of Metal, uses his powers to encase himself in metal all Marvel's Colossus style, it makes me wonder if this gentleman may not have been the previous Master of Metal utilizing his powers in a fashion more like Magneto, manipulating the metal he wears to lift himself off the ground. Also, it'd be kind of nice to know how the previous Master of Ice-whose clothing gives me a real Inuit vibe-passed his powers down to Zane, given that Zane's...a robot, while the Master appears human.
  3. I often see topics that are sort of the opposite of this one, asking which aspects of the Ninjago TV show you would like to see in sets. But I rarely see stuff that asks the opposite question: are there things in the Ninjago sets that you wish would appear in the show? One thing I wish was more present in the show is Nya's daggers. They were her signature weapon in the 2011 sets, and both the 2012 and 2016 versions of Samurai X included a version on a pole as a naginata. But neither has been given any equivalent in the show. I know that pretty much none of the ninja use their classic signature weapons as much as they used to, and that Samurai X has her own signature weapon in the show (the boomerang blade), but I think these weapons really suit Nya. Kai's scar is another example. In the sets, Kai has always had a scar over his left eye (except for in the Target Minifigure Gift Set), but in the show this was omitted since such a battle-hardened look didn't fit with his backstory as a blacksmith in a peaceful village. However, that doesn't preclude the possibility of him sustaining a future injury in the show to better reconcile it with the sets. It could even be an interesting plot point from a narrative perspective since Kai is kind of vain and it would be interesting to see what he'd think if the ninja life started to wear on him physically. Can anybody else think of examples of things from the Ninjago sets that could be fun to see in the show?
  4. When it comes to most things I'm a fan of, I'm a bit of a completist, especially in the area of merchandise. As such, if something appeared in the Ninjago TV series, I feel it should appear in set form. Now this doesn't apply to everything-I honestly don't care much for season four's Elemental Masters all that much-but there are definitely a few show elements that I think should appear in set form, such as the following: Young Wu and Garmadon-perhaps a recreation of their epic duel?-and the First Spinjitzu Master.Garmadon's Samurai Mech-that thing was a beast, and it seems a shame that it never got it's own set.The Overlord Dragon-the Golden Dragon was nice, but without its nemesis it seems incomplete. You could even get some extra out of it by including purified/pre-Sensei Garmadon or the First Spinjitzu Master; the latter would enable you to recreate the ancient battle of good and evil.Project: Arcturus-that ship was sweet, and a set version could be really cool. Of course, a figure of its Serpentine namesake wouldn't go amiss...The Preeminent-again, it just seems wrong to finish out a year without releasing a set of the big bad, and the Preeminent would definitely make a nice addition. The Earth Dragon-I'm sorry, but "Cole's Dragon" was garbage, especially compared to other Dragons we've had in the series. I figure we could get Cole, perhaps his dad and the Royal Blacksmiths or Yang's other four students who don't have Minifigs, and maybe even a Seliel fig? She is so cool, they really should put her in the show/toyline.Water and Fire Dragons-the upcoming "Fusion Dragon" is cool, but it'd be nice for the dragons who compose it to get their own sets. The Black Bounty-might just be a recolor of the Destiny's Bounty, but it would give you the chance to get Soto's crew and maybe even the Bizarro Ninja. So, anyone have any thoughts on these, or any suggestions for other sets?
  5. My but this forum is light on topics. So if my calculations are correct, as of the Day of the Departed special eight of the Ninjago series' Sixteen Realms have been identified: NinjagoThe UnderworldThe Dark Realm (where Lord Garmadon got his extra arms)The Cursed Realm (destroyed)Cloud KingdomChimaDjinnjago (destroyed)The Departed Realm As a result, there are eight realms that are as yet unaccounted for, though of course we may see more as the Hageman brothers see fit to use them as a plot device. Until we do, however, there's plenty of speculation to be made as to what the remaining eight realms might consist of. Personally, based on my own preferences and my assessments of Lego in general, I could see the following: Knighton-Nexo Knights seems to have replaced Chima, so it would make sense that it would have it's own realm.DC Super Heroes-whether or not Super Hero Girls would be included or be it's own separate thing is up for debate.Marvel Super HeroesStar Wars-goes without saying that, as one of Lego's most popular and expansive themes, it would get it's own realm.Middle Earth-what with two video games (not counting Dimensions) and numerous sets, it seems like it would have one.Harry Potter-again, Lego's done a lot with it.Elvendale/Heartlake City World-given their similar minifigure types, it would make sense for them to share a world.DisneyGiven the season one reference to Clutch Powers, I would imagine that the Lego City theme fits into Ninjago, along with the likes of Lego Atlantis. Any other themes would probably be bunched in with these realms or else could be described as additional ones beyond the "cluster" if you will of sixteen that includes Ninjago. Of course, the loss of two realms does also open it up to where there could be space for an additional two to fill the void.
  6. LEGO has made a LOT of sets containing dragons, especially in recent years. Brickset counts around 70 sets containing dragons, more than half of which were released in just the past five years. So out of curiosity, how many LEGO dragons do you have, and which ones are your favorites? Do you prefer molded dragons like the ones in LEGO Castle, or more brick-built ones like the ones from LEGO Ninjago and LEGO Elves? I'm not sure how many dragons I have from 90s Castle sets, but my twin brother and I have about 25 dragons from the past decade: the Kardas Dragon from LEGO Bionicle, Dragon Bolt from LEGO Hero Factory, twelve dragons from LEGO Ninjago, and eleven dragons from LEGO Elves. My overall favorites are Elandra the Queen Dragon from LEGO Elves and the Master Wu Dragon from LEGO Ninjago. I have a hard time choosing between them. Elandra is bigger and more lifelike, while Master Wu Dragon is more posable. Generally I prefer brick-built dragons over molded ones. A decade ago I might've had a different answer, but today there are lots of great hinge and curved slope pieces for building lifelike, posable LEGO creatures. Feel free to share your thoughts on LEGO dragons!
  7. While I didn't buy any of the sets when the theme initially came out (it was during my time where I fell out of LEGO for a little while, after BIONICLE was first cancelled), and while I didn't watch the TV show as it was first airing, I do remember marathoning it a couple of weeks before the first "finale", and from what I remember, I actually really enjoyed it! With the new movie coming out and BIONICLE's cancellation, I was thinking about maybe getting back into the series, and actually buying some sets this time. However, I haven't followed anything about it since the not-ending, so I don't know if I should pick it back up again. So, should I pick it up again? And if I were to start buying some of the sets, what would you recommend? EDIT: Phrasing

  9. I'm just curious about which one of these themes you all think is the best
  10. So is anyone else perplexed by the whole "Villains United" theme of Ninjago sets later this year? I mean, let's look at the lineup: *Skeletons-makes sense seeing as how they were never destroyed. *Stone Warriors-a little bizarre since the only one we've seen since the end of season two was the big guy in Cryptarium Prison. *Nindroids-again, only ones we've seen were in Cryptarium Prison. *Chen and his Anacondrai Cultists-were last known to be inside the Preeminent...right before she was destroyed, apparently taking everyone inside with her aside from Clouse. Even with that, how are they flesh-and-blood again? Of course, it will hopefully all be explained once those episodes start-though who knows when that'll be since nothing past Skybound episode one has premiered in the U.S. yet.
  11. Guys! I just found a TOTALLY REAL poster for the new Ninjago movie! (^^^Click for full^^^) Don't forget to like, comment and subscribe for more TOTALLY REAL LEGIT posters!
  12. Since two new LEGO Ninjago promotional songs were just released by The Fold, I was curious which of their Ninjago songs from over the years were people's favorites! To date they've released 15 original songs along with four remixes of the theme song The Weekend Whip. Since the number of answers per poll question is limited, I split it into two questions: which is your favorite promotional song, and which is your favorite version of the theme song. Links for those who haven't heard the songs before or want to refresh their memory: The Weekend Whip Born to be a Ninja Ninja Go! 13. PREVIOUSLY ON BIONICLE X NINJAGO MAFIA: A NEW CONFLICT / NINJAGO STRIKES BACK (credit to art in banner goes to TBK, may his presence on BZPower rest in peace) Worlds clashed in an epic struggle…. Five years ago, a planet warped into the sky above the World of Mafia, where it subsequently crashed into the plains of the infamous and perilous Desolation of the Staff. From this mysterious planet spewed forth alien figures and structures. They quickly spread across the globe, and all who belonged to Bionicle learned that everything on this planet somehow related to Ninjas. The survivors of the crashed planet all claimed themselves to be of ‘Ninjago’, a mystical realm filled with ninjas, robots, magic powers, and chefs. The two worlds quickly came to blows; the residents of Bionicle fearing that the legendary Bionicle Mafia was in danger, and had to be saved from the wicked Ninjago – while the residents of Ninjago feared that the last remnants of Ninjago Mafia would be squashed by its larger brethren. At first, it seemed that victory was in the hands of Bionicle, for their elite taskforce was able to easily take down the not-so-equally elite taskforce sent by Ninjago. With only a single so-called “survivor” for the Ninjago side, Bionicle was able to rest easy for two years. Ninjago was not so easily defeated, however. Three years ago, they managed to successfully infiltrate Bionicle, and then, they struck with lightning speed. It was a flawless victory on Ninjago’s part, led by none other than Sensei Wu. Little did they know at the time that a third party was taking part in events – Mr. Makuro, creator and leader of the Hero Factory. He revealed himself before Ninjago could even begin to celebrate, and so the conflicts began anew. --- For the past three years, Ninjago has been forced further and further back as they continuously try and fail to hold the line against the Hero Factory forces. Driven to desperation, they have united with what little is left of Bionicle, and together, the two lines have managed to force the conflict to a standstill; neither side has been able to advance for quite some time. Hope is on the horizon for Bionicle and Ninjago; whispers of a single, lone surviving Toa grow more common by the day. But Hero Factory’s most elite Heroes have now joined the front lines, and surviving the upcoming assault will be no easy task. Let the war begin! RULES 1-Vote changes are not permitted. 2-All BZP Rules Apply. 3-Once killed, players can no longer have an impact on the game. 4-Role revealing is not allowed. ROLES BIONICLE (Wins if Hero Factory is defeated) Matoran x9 – Ordinary players; they vote on who to execute each day. Toa x1 – Each night, this player targets four players; one to protect, one to investigate, and two to kill. This player will survive the first attempt to kill them at night or the first attempt to execute them. NINJAGO (Wins if Hero Factory is defeated) Ninjas x10 – Ordinary players; they vote on who to execute each day. Nya x1 – The Water Ninja. She can investigate a player each night to determine their role. Skylor x1 – The Amber Ninja. She can capture a player each night, protecting them from harm. Lloyd Garmadon x1 – The Golden Ninja. Targets two players for death each night, but can only kill them if they are a part of Hero Factory. Final Ninja x1 – The Final Ninja. Having survived both of the previous conflicts, the Final Ninja has grown extraordinarily resistant; they can only die if targeted for death two nights in a row, executed twice in a row, or targeted for death and lynching in the same round. HERO FACTORY (Wins if they outnumber both Bionicle and Ninjago) Mr. Makuro x1 – Has one separate kill each night; this kill will only succeed if the target is a Matoran or a Ninja. Preston Stormer x1 – If sent to kill, no suspect list will be provided. Dunkan Bulk x1 – Cannot be executed during the day as long as Preston Stormer and Jimi Stringer are alive. Jimi Stringer x1 – Can kill up to four players when sent; for each additional kill, the suspect list shrinks by one. Von Ness x1 – [FILES MISSING] Thresher x1 – When sent to kill, can also protect another member of Hero Factory from death. Zib x1 – Cannot be sent to kill. Every two nights, can link two players together; if one of the linked players dies, the other will die as well. 14. So I finally caught up with Season 6 of Ninjago, and I couldn't help but notice that the Ninjago story is getting pretty formulaic. This formula: the Ninja always fail against the main villain and sustain cringe-worthy losses through the entire season, only to narrowly beat the main villain by the skin of their teeth using some last-ditch tool or power. Any victories the ninja get midseason are always reversed or come with a cost of some kind or both. For example, Pythor - the ninja keep losing against him in the quest to collect the Fang Blades. They get the blades, and almost destroy them, only to be stopped at the last second. The Great Devourer is unleashed, and Garmadon has to stop him. Then, consider Garmadon - the ninja don't stop Garmadon's countdown or stop him from going back to Ninjago or the stone army. It's Lloyd's last minute save. Then the Overlord - we lose Lloyd and fail to rescue him fast enough to stop the power drain, they bust the digital realm not fast enough to stop the Overlord's escape, and it takes Zane's sacrifice. Then Master Chen - again, another series of cringe worthy defeats and the loss of Cole's power and the release of another bunch of dead Anconadrai generals that no one wanted released. It took Sensei Garmadon's sacrifice and last-minute save. And by the time we got to Morro, I could have predicted that every one of the Ninja's actions were going to result in a loss. I knew that when Kai got the sword from Morro that the Ninja were going to lose it soon after. And... Anyway, you've have thought that Jay would have figured this out by now. Thoughts?
  15. PREVIOUSLY ON BIONICLE X NINJAGO MAFIA (credit to art in banner goes to TBK, may his presence on BZPower rest in peace) WORLDS CLASHED IN AN EPIC STRUGGLE! Precisely two years ago, a planet warped into the sky above the World of Mafia and subsequently crashed into the plains of the infamous Desolation. With only a single so-called “survivor” for the Ninjago side (although really, we all know they died), Bionicle has been able to rest easy. --- So read the headlines a week ago; but it has become clear that Ninjago was not defeated, and merely awaiting the perfect chance to strike back against the Bionicle Mafia crew. Their force is smaller this time, designed for infiltrating the Bionicle ranks and performing a stealthy takedown as opposed to the even odds of their last confrontation. Deciding on some sort of poetic justice, the battleground decided for this conflict is the same town as before – not that this town has been named yet. Voltex might be a bit lazy in that regard. Let the defense / infiltration begin! --- A mysterious figure has appeared in town, and their purposes are unknown…. RULES 1-Vote changes are not permitted. 2-All BZP Rules Apply. 3-Once killed, players can no longer have an impact on the game. 4-Role revealing is not allowed. The Shadowed One x1 – Leader of the Dark Hunters. Can swap two players each night, possibly altering targets. Dark Hunters x2 – Regular players. If the Shadowed One dies, one of these players becomes the new Shadowed One. NINJAGO Sensei Wu x1 – Leader of Ninjago. Decides who to send and who to kill each night. If sent to kill, can protect one other member of Ninjago from the lynching that round. Nya x1 – The Water Ninja. She can investigate a player each night to determine their role; if she discovers the Pyro, the Pyro is slain instantly. She is also immune to the Pyro’s fire, and as such, cannot be killed by them. Skylor x1 – The Amber Ninja. She can capture a player each night, rendering them unable to use their role ability if they have one. She is immune to the Detective, and as such, shows up as a regular Matoran to them. Lloyd Garmadon x1 – The Green Ninja. Takes command of Ninjago if Sensei Wu is killed. When sent, can kill two players during the night instead of one. Final Ninja x1 – The Final Ninja. As the only survivor of the original battle between Bionicle and Ninjago, the Final Ninja is partially immune to the lynching; they can only be slain at night or if lynched twice in a row. 16. What LEGO Ninjago sets or minifigures would you like to see in the future? They can be characters and costumes from Ninjago media like the TV show and graphic novels, or new characters and costumes you dream up! In this topic, you don't have to limit yourself to what's realistic. Yes, I know characters like Seliel from the LEGO Ninjago graphic novels aren't likely to ever appear as figs. But if that's a fig you'd like released, you're welcome to suggest it here! I'll start off. I'd love to see "Airjitzu Nya Flier" and "Airjitzu Lloyd Flier" sets, similar to this year's Airjitzu fliers. They would come with brand-new Airjitzu Nya and Airjitzu Lloyd minifigures. I don't know if there's ever any chance of this happening, but we know Lloyd already officially has Airjitzu in the story from when he was possessed by Morro, and I think Nya should get the opportunity to learn Airjitzu as well! The Airjitzu minifigures are very stylish and it would be exciting to see what they would look like for Nya and Lloyd's elements. I'd also like to see stone armor versions of Jay and Cole (from Episode 34 "The Titanium Ninja"). We got stone armor versions of Zane and Lloyd in set 70728 Battle for Ninjago City and a stone armor version of Kai will be appearing in this year's Target-exclusive minifigure cube (one of which was somehow obtained and auctioned off at BrickFair Virginia). But Jay and Cole are still left out. I'm not sure what would be a good opportunity to release those figs, but I would like an opportunity to add them to my collection! And as silly as it is, I'd like a Kendo Lloyd minifigure. Last year's minifigure cube included a Lloyd DX minifigure, a costume Lloyd has never officially worn. He wasn't even a ninja when that costume was current! But it still looked awesome. And the nice thing about a Kendo Lloyd minifigure is that it'd have a 2011-style costume for Lloyd underneath! So together with Lloyd DX's hood, it'd be like getting two new costumes in one!
  17. BIONICLE WINS! (credit to art in banner goes to TBK, may his presence on BZPower rest in peace) WORLDS CLASH IN AN EPIC STRUGGLE! Precisely 26 hours, 32 minutes, and 49 seconds ago (we lost the smaller increments of time in a data loss that followed the recording, unfortunately), a planet warped into the sky above the World of Mafia and subsequently crashed into the plains of the infamous Desolation, spewing forth alien figures and structures across the globe! These menacing figures claim themselves to be of ‘Ninjago’, a mystical realm filled with ninjas, robots, magic powers, and chefs. The world of Bionicle Mafia is in danger! It must be defended from the wicked Ninjago! An elite team has been put together to defend Bionicle Mafia from the intruders, to combat an elite attacking force of the same size! The illogical decision has been made by both sides to avoid overwhelming the other with larger forces in favor of good, old-fashioned Mafia-style beatdowns is where all of you come in. Let the defense / conquering begin! RULES 1-Vote changes are not permitted. 2-All BZP Rules Apply. 3-Once killed, players can no longer have an impact on the game. 4-Role revealing is not allowed. If lynched, takes two players with them to the grave. Dark Hunters x3 - One is sent by the Shadowed One each night to kill another player. Matoran x4 - Ordinary players who merely vote during the day. NINJAGO Kai x1 - Targets 2 players each night; the target to die is decided by the flip of a coin. Jay x1 - Protects one target from death each night. Cole x1 - Investigates one player to determine their role each night. Zane x1 - Decides which Nindroid will kill each night, as well as the target. A maximum of 4 extra spots will be added.
  18. https://instagram.com/p/9etDvVQFrF/ Looks like Lego hasn't been thinking of story writing that much - as old Greg said, the sets come first. However, most writing methods start with defining the characters and the setting anyway, but it appears that they focus more on the appearance of the characters than their actual personalities, which makes sense for a toy company. But that may leave those looking for a deeper story disappointed. What do you think? Go!
  19. Okay, so for a while, I've been anticipating LEGO Dimensions for a long time now and was plesantly surprised that a lot of big names such as the LEGO Movie and Doctor Who got properly represented with the original voice talent for each character. One thing that occasionally gets on my nerves is how a lot of LEGO games tent to not have the budget to get the original voice actors to preform their roles as the characters. LEGO Ninjago Shadow of Ronin and LEGO Ninjago Nindroids unfortunately had those flaws. When it was announced that most voice roles were to be reprised for the LEGO Movie and others, I was estatic. Then I saw a trailer to the game featuing Kai (Ninjago) and Batman. Kai had a pretty scratchy voice that didn't match Vincent Tong's (voice of Kai's) voice at all. I kept my optimism though, seeing that a lot of game and movie trailers are acted or voiced differently from the actual product. The game came out and I bought the starter pack with the fun pack of Zane and the other of Emmet. I was happy to hear Chris Pratt's voice again after his apcense in the LEGO Movie Videogame. However, as soon as Zane opened his mouth, I was nearly heartbroken. I might be taking this a bit too seriously but there was a pit left in my stomach when I found out that none of the Ninjago characters reprised their roles and were replaced with cheap imitations. I even read somewhere that Vincent Tong wasn't even ever contacted to voice Kai again. It just feels disrespectful to the characters. Me and my little sister could comepletely tell the difference between the two voices for the same characters. I'm only assuming, but I'm pretty sure all the other Ninjago characters are suffering the same fate and not just Zane. Oh well...At least I can still play as the TRUE Emmet, Wildstyle, Homer Simpson, Doctor, and Unikitty.
  20. Which season of LEGO Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu do you think had the best premiere, and which do you think had the best finale? Personally, I feel like my favorite season premiere was probably "The Invitation" from Season 4, and my favorite season finale is still "Day of the Great Devourer" from Season 1. EDIT: Added a poll.
  21. (cross-posted from Brickset) This is just something I've been thinking about lately. When #70751 Temple of Airjitzu was announced, a question that seemed to be on a lot of people's minds is "how many AFOLs will be interested in buying a Ninjago set?" (or conversely, "how many Ninjago fans are even old enough for a set this size?") This is something that I see a lot of in the AFOL community — themes like Ninjago being perceived as "too childish" for most adults to take a serious interest in. And yet at the same time, that seems to fly in the face of the actual target audience for these themes. Many AFOLs are perfectly fine with buying LEGO City sets, and yet even the largest LEGO City sets such as #60097 City Square (1683 pieces, $190) and #60098 Heavy-Haul Train (984 pieces, $200) are recommended for ages 6–12. By comparison, the smallest Ninjago sets like #70752 Jungle Trap and #70739 Airjitzu Kai Flyer are aimed at ages 6–14, while the largest non-exclusive sets like #70732 City of Stiix and #70738 Final Flight of Destiny's Bounty are aimed at ages 9–14. The Temple of Airjitzu itself is aimed at ages 14+. Some might point to the "silliness" of the story as evidence of the Ninjago theme's childishness, what with the colorful ninja piloting sci-fi vehicles and fighting robots, ghosts, and fantasy monsters. And yet there are plenty of AFOLs who have no trouble enjoying LEGO Super Heroes sets (and the corresponding Marvel Cinematic Universe movies) that portray fights between Norse gods, robots, aliens, mutants, mech pilots, and B-movie monsters. I've also heard plenty of AFOL excitement for the Scooby-Doo theme, based on a series in which a bunch of teenagers and their talking dog solve formulaic cartoon mysteries perpetrated by middle-aged men and women in goofy monster costumes. Are these things honestly any less silly, or is it just the veneer of nostalgia that makes AFOLs less afraid to enjoy these "old-school" cartoon and comic book adventures? For what it's worth, the LEGO Ninjago TV series can be quite cerebral compared to what you might expect from a merchandise-driven cartoon, with plenty of character development, complex storylines, and moral ambiguity. The LEGO Ninjago sets are intricate and full of creative part use, elaborate action features, and intricate details. So why is it that so many AFOLs who casually enjoy themes aimed at an even younger audience have a hard time seeing Ninjago as anything other than a "kiddy theme"? The only explanation I've been able to come up with is that character-driven, genre-blending themes like Ninjago are so different than the themes many older AFOLs grew up with like Town or Castle. Because so many kids, teens, and young adults like these themes in a way they can't begin to understand, these older AFOLs assume that themes like Ninjago are simply more childish than the LEGO themes and movie brands that they continue to enjoy from their own childhoods.
  22. My review of all six Ninjago Airjitzu sets went live while I was at BrickFair this weekend! Check it out if you're interested in the parts of these unique new sets!
  23. I picked this set up a couple days ago, and since BZPower hasn't reviewed these yet, I figured I'd take the jump on them and do one first. Will this set carry you and your dreams to the clouds? Or is it best left grounded? The Box The box is just as you'd expect. Some decent artwork showing off the set and all its contents. It's made of that same thin paperboard stuff we're so used to by now. The back shows off more of the same, as well as the lineup of all six Aijitzu Flyers. Contents Within the container, you will find a single bag of parts, one propeller, and one ripcord, as well as an instruction booklet. There's a decent variety of parts. For a set like this, though, the function is meant to outweigh the pieces. As such, it doesn't have a very good piece-to-price ratio, but it does contain this variation of Morro, which is only available in one other (very expensive) set. Morro comes in his ghost form here. We see him in the original ninja suit, though in green this time, and wearing Lloyd's symbol. The back has printing, and it features his Japanese-style symbol. His head has only one face, though. The set also includes a few weapons, most interesting of which is the new shuriken mold. The blades are slightly curved, and the handles are decorated like the katana handles. These are my favorite piece here! Building process The building process is fairly straightforward and simple. You build the minifig, build the handle, and click the spinner together. And then you're done! Playability There's not much to say about this. You put the minifig in the dome, and you send it flying. With the spinners, you had a game you could play with them. I suppose this time around, you can take yours, and have a friend launch their own, and see whose goes farthest. Beyond that there's only so much you can do with them. I did take mine out to the local school playground, and I discovered that it holds up fairly well against being dashed against the pavement (oops ). So, they're definitely durable, which is a plus! Final thoughts All in all, I like the concept here. For the figure, I think this is a good buy. It's nothing too special, but if you want something fun to take outside during the summer months, this is definitely a decent purchase at only $10. Well, I hope you enjoyed my first review, and hopefully I'll get around to doing more in the future.
  24. Okay, so this is assuming you've seen the recent episodes, including the Season 5 finale "Curseworld." As I've stated in the past, Ninjago hasn't been so great lately about keeping the plot very consistent, and this one's no different. First problem is Nya. She's now the water ninja, but why didn't she learn Spinjitzu first, like the others? When Zane, Cole, and the others started out, they were trained to use Spinjitzu, which allowed them to become a tornado of their element, which later helped them master the power of the Golden Weapons and grow in power. While Nya doesn't have a GW to represent her element, a tornado of water would have been very useful for both offensive and defensive purposes. Training her to do Spinjitzu would have been quicker and more efficient than trying to make her do everything Jedi-style. To further this issue, back during the Stone Army/Overlord story, Nya was poisoned by the Dark Matter, and became a being of darkness. In this state, she was seen to use Spinjitzu multiple times, mainly to attack her brother and the other Ninja. Also, her spinjitzu appeared red, even though her color's at the time had been changed to black and grey. Why was it red, then? Perhaps to represent the color of her true element, a.k.a. fire? It's been said before, and I'll say it again: Consistency is not a mild suggestion. But why do I bring this up as unresolved? Because Nya had a spinner set TWICE in the early years of Ninjago, despite her never learning how to perform the art. Will she ever learn it, or not? ---- Second point: Cole. In case you missed it, Cole is still a ghost. This is a problem, because we know the process could easily have been reversed. Why? Because, if you check the episode immediately following Cole's transformation, he began to change back on two occasions: when he was hugged by Nya, and when he was encouraged by the other ninja. In both instances, one of his hands regained a solid form, though the break in emotion caused the changed spot to return to its ghostly form. Here's where I have a problem with this: They never mention this again. It's not even apparent to Cole, himself, who should have felt the change in his own hands. But, really. The camera zooms in on this the only two times it happens, making it seem like something big and emotional would happen by the end of the season, causing Cole to revert to normal. If those instances were never meant to amount to anything, why even show it in the first place? On another note, how was Ghost-Cole able to handle the Aeroblades? If the weapons are deadly to ghosts, then how was our favorite ninja able to hold them, let alone use them as intended without hurting or destroying himself? Again, consistency, please. ---- Third, Garmadon. Lloyd finds him in the Cursed Realm, and then apparently switches clothes with him. If Garmadon was chained up, then how did Lloyd get the robe's sleeves off of there without freeing his father? I know it's meant to be a kids show, but even then, a little logic here and there would be nice. Also, who in the Cursed Realm bothered to chain him up? It's not like he was going to escape from there any time soon. ---- Fourth, Zane. In the episode with the FSM's tomb, Zane saw a future version of himself which he described as looking older. He's a full-on machine, made of metal. I can understand scratches here and there, but wrinkles? Suspension of disbelief can only take you so far. ---- Finally, deepstone armor. In one of the earlier episodes, Zane is hit by a ghost attack that was meant to turn him into a ghost. It has no effect on him due to the armor. Two problems arise from this: 1) The ninja spend the entire rest of the season avoiding these same attacks like the plague, despite the fact that their armor makes them immune to possession and being transformed into a ghost. Which brings me to... 2) Cole turned into a ghost. Shouldn't the deepstone have repelled this change, to some extent? I understand that the circumstances were a bit different, but I still don't see how this had no effect on him. But, then, why didn't the armor just repel Cole? Make sense? A substance meant to reflect ghostly powers was turned into a ghost. Anyone else see the problem here? ---- Sure, this season had fewer issues than the last one (*cough*elementalmasters*cough*), but some of this stuff deserves an explanation. I could think of more if I weren't so tired right now, so I'll just leave it as is and let you all dig in. Thoughts?
