The village mobilized quickly. Though this threat was foreign, danger itself was not strange to the Le-Matoran. A thousand years of war had taught the jungle-dwellers how to work together; taught them how to strike quickly and disappear into the undergrowth; taught them how to take command of both sky and ground. This was not the first time their village had come under threat of destruction, and it showed.

The young, the old, and the weak exited the village calmly, the occasional outburst of fear stifled by the ever-present Gukko Force, who knew that panic would quickly turn into hysteria, and do far more damage than the beetles themselves. Within half an hour, the village was evacuated.

While this happened, those civilian volunteers who wished to join the defence effort were given instructions by the various Force members standing by each of the chute entrances, or waiting by their Gukko.

Those with axes and brute strength, along with Toa of Fire, Plasma, Gravity and Plant Life, were sent to the ground, and led through the jungle to a designated perimeter. Once they reached this boundary, they began to demolish the trees. The ancient trees were both thick and tall, but many axes made light work, and Toa of Gravity and Plant Life helped to bring the wooden carcasses to the ground without injury. Once the trees were down, Toa of Fire and Plasma burned them to ash, while Toa of Water stood by, helping to keep the blaze under control.

The Force's plan was to cut a large swath of empty space through the jungle, putting a barrier of sorts between the beetles and the village. Hopefully, once the insects reached this boundary, they would turn aside rather than fly across fifty metres of empty space. This was a last resort, to be used in case the primary efforts failed.

Said primary effort was the more exciting of the two, but also the more dangerous. The Force rounded up every Gukko in the village, and sent each into the air with one pilot and one passenger. The passengers were mostly Toa, especially Toa of Fire, Ice, and Air. This flock of defenders passed over the workers on the ground, and headed directly for the swarm. Their plan was to encircle the beetles and use whatever methods they could to drive the swarm in on itself, slaughtering as many of the insects as possible.

The defenders moved quickly; time was of the essence.

OOC

To sum it up: there are two lines of defence. The first line is a party of Gukko riders who are flying out in an attempt to surround the swarm of beetles and drive them in on themselves. Toa of Fire, Ice, and Air are especially welcome, as their powers are well suited for this job, but potentially anyone can help. If you want to kill some bugs, this is the group for you!

The second line of defence is a party of people on the ground who are chopping down and burning trees to create a “wall” of empty space to protect the village. Hopefully, if the beetles manage to overcome the first line of defence, this “wall” will deter them from their course towards Le-Koro. Anyone can help on this line: all you need is an axe and some muscle (though elemental powers are also welcome).

I'll let everyone choose the group they want to be a part of: there's no need to get approval from me. Just get your character out there and start RPing. Let's do this!

IC - Kahal [Le-Koro]:

The hunter punched through the ice dome from the inside and crawled out from the top. The swarm was approaching fast but he could make it the silhouettes of the Gukko Force in the distance. They had finally regrouped and returned. Kahal carefully stood on top of the small ice dome and leapt off it. He gripped onto a nearby tree branch and lifted himself on top of it with a grunt. The swarm was even closer now.

He waved his arms desperately as he stood on one end of the branch, hoping to get a flier's attention.

"I don't why you're asking me," Ranok said with a smile. "I'm just a minstrel, but yes, I think we should quick-join."

IC: Talu

Riding on the back of a Gukko, Talu shouted over the noise of the Gukkos to the driver

"So how big is this swarm?"

Talu looked down.

"Oh. Well, that's impressive."

With the huge number of the beetles, victory seemed not certain, but perhaps if he could box them in with a box of grass, or leaves (seeing as how they only ate the actual tree), they might have a fighting chance.

IC (Forcewoman NPC)

One Gukko pilot, having no passengers herself, saw someone standing on a tree branch, waving his arms. She communicated her plan to the pilots around her using the Force's sign language, developed specifically for communication in the air, then dropped out of formation, swooping down to see if the being was friendly and willing to help.

IC: Uzan

Uzan heard something strange, not the sound of the koro freezing but rather more like a large number of Gukkos flying over head.

Uzan ran out of the hut and looked up a gukko was swooping down to the hunter. "The others, they must have made it to Ta-koro!" she yelled happily.

"When life gives you lemons.... Make orange soda!"

"You're immature for age..."

IC - Kahal [Le-Koro]:

The Toa continued to wave his arms around as he made out the faint outline of a Gukko breaking formation and move towards his position. The Hunter looked around for any signs of the others before bringing his gaze skywards. He squinted slightly as the pilot's figure blotted out the sun's harsh light.

"A handful of those beetles made it into a village but we managed to fend them off! The rest of the group who was with me are probably hiding somewhere!"

IC Izzun

Izzun saw the Gukko force and knew that Akhulii's little gang could not possibly have summoned them, for they were in Ta-Wahi. An aerial attack would prove devastating, but he knew nothing of what the Gukko force was capable of. He quickly turned to Ryzen.

"If we team up, we'll need a better plan than 'slice and dice anything beneath us' like they're doing. And I don't work well with Gukko."

"My Gukko can only take one more," the forcewoman replied as her bird settled on a branch. "But your companions can join the attack on foot."

IC - Kahal [Le-Koro]:

"I've got this." Kahal replied to the others as he approached the Gukko. He walked around it for a couple of seconds. The hunter's eyes scanned the Gukko's saddle for a foothold. Once he found one the Toa mounted the seat behind the forcewoman and removed his bow from his back. He shifted in the seat and notched an arrow.

Geez, there's going to be a lot of interference from the winds on this thing. Guess I'll just have to adjust my aim then.

IC: Uzan

Uzan smile back at the other Toa. He seemed so nice, a great friend type. "Hey, Izzun," she said a bit of sorrow in her voice "I just want you to know, it's been an honor fighting alongside you, and the others. Hunter, watch your back up their."

IC - Kahal [Le-Koro]:

The Toa nodded as he added the ice arrow to the quiver. He looked Izzun in the eye and came to a tenuous understanding of whatever plan he had cooked up. Whatever the signal was, it'd have to be visible from high up in the sky. Kahal moved his feet around and tested the saddle's stirrup as he looked over to the forcewoman.

"Ready when you are."

IC (NPC Forcewoman)

"If you want to quick-help, move towards the swarm on foot," the forcewoman said as Kahal mounted up. "Blast-kill any bugs you see; try to drive them back-far from Le-Koro." That said, she kicked her heels. The Gukko responded, jumping off the branch and taking wing to join the rest of the flock as they rapidly approached the swarm of beetles.

"Kill as many as you can," she shouted to her passenger over the sound of buzzing from below. "We need to thin them out quick-faster than they can reproduce!"

IC - Kahal [skies over Le-Koro]:

The hunter aimed carefully at the black mass of beetles that threatened the village. "Got it!" He exclaimed as he fired off one arrow. He focused as it flew through the air, temporarily changing the wind currents to carry it farther and faster. Kahal breathed out as he notched another arrow and aimed against the wind current. The archer grit his teeth as he let go of the bowstring and watched the path of the arrow as it flew towards the swarm.

"As long as we don't move too quickly it'll be easy to hit them!" Kahal yelled as he fired off another arrow.

IC:
Talu tried to use his powers to trap the bugs on their path, but all he managed to do was let some leaves flying in the wind get stuck in his mask.

"I'm going to need to get closer to the bugs to- *ppthhthpthp* -to try to stop them!" He shouted to the Gukko Flier over the wind and the leaves in his mouth.

"Could you do that?"

IC: Vyartha / Le-Koro

There was another Gukko bird ready for deployment as the two of us approached, and with only a few curt words between myself and the soldier keeping the creature in tow, we were prepped and flying off through the treetops of the jungle. The flitting of shadows through the vegetation caught my attention, and I could only assume that these were the beetles which had been mentioned before. At times, when I saw an Entropy Beetle in its full glory, I was tempted to try and burn it where it hovered. But my military training won out, reminding me that such actions would only be wasteful and inefficient.

We would have to wait until we could group of other defenders.

A feat which, apparently, wasn't going to be difficult, seeing as we had just spotted some.

There looked to about four; one verdant Lesterin, one azure Toa, and another silver Toa.

"What do you think, Sloth dear?" I asked, glancing back to my companion. "Shall we go talk to some strangers?"

OOC: That would Trava and co. that's being observed.

-Void

IC: Trava (Outside Le-Koro)

The Lesterin, already scouting the surroundings in preparation for heading out, spotted in the corner of her eye a Toa of Fire staring at her rather intently, with another Toa in tow behind her.

"Just a moment, girls, I'll go see what our new friends want."

Trave leaped off the branch she'd been perched on impeccably, appearing as if striding through the air as she made her way by branch to where Vyartha and Nikarra were standing.

"Not a good day to be wandering about on your own, ladies. They say there's trouble afoot down there in the swamp" she introduced herself with a good-natured smirk.

OOC:

OOC: haven't posted as him for such a long time...

IC: Jetzul

Firing off pellets of iron at the mob like a shotgun, he slowly backed away from the crowd, intending to make a break for the wall. He passed by some other combatants (Colx and Alfon), asking "Why aren't you guys running?!"

IC: Colx (Secret Arena)

I turned around and gave the Toa my best Skakdi scowl. If I'd had more time, I would've given him an earful about stopping in the middle of a big fight to make conversation, but time was something we didn't have.

"Some of us have business to settle with the man in charge of this outfit, and the rest of us latched on because there's safety in numbers."

OOC:

OOC: You guys are more than welcome to take control of some NPCs!

Any takers? If not, I'll take care of it.

IC (Entropy Beetle Attack Force)

The flock of Gukko and their riders approached the swarm. Below them, the jungle canopy shivered and shook as the Entropy Beetles feasted on the trunks and branches of trees as old as the mountains. Their whirring wings and munching mandibles might have been quiet had there only been a few beetles, but the sheer number of the insects multiplied the noise to a terrifying roar of buzzing and clicking. The Gukko shied beneath their riders: they could tell that there was something foreign and sinister about these unnatural Rahi. But the riders swallowed their own fear and kept their steeds in formation: if they fled, then Le-Koro -perhaps even all of Le-Wahi- was doomed.

Line by line, each wave of riders began their descent, swooping low over the tops of the trees to allow their passengers to launch a first assault.

Ic: Artem

Artem said to his group "I say we head back to the koro and help there. If the Gukkos are here, our task is complete. If you two don't want to come back, I will not tell them" Artem started his journey back to the Koro

Ooc: Ok so besides the Gukko Force and the group at the Koro, is there any other Anti-Beetle efforts?

IC: Akhulii

Akhulii looked as Artem walked away. He almost felt a little cheated that they couldn't be the ones to call for help, but he dared not say. He felt a little guilty that they left the koro and the defenders to fight for it themselves while they walked away, though he knew they couldn't have known.

He turned to Lain,"I say we go back to the Koro and help out. We still ought to help, even if it is safer elsewhere. We have reinforcements now, so we can take them. It'll be a cinch!"

A group of beetles flew towards Uzan. She fried beetle after beetle, but was getting nowhere. She spun to look at Ryzen and Izzun. "Can you two hold the ground? The others probably didn't get far. I'm gonna go look for them. I'll be gone for ten minutes."

IC - Kahal [skies over Le-Wahi]:

Kahal rubbed his forearm as the forcewoman flew the Gukko into position. They drew even closer to the swarm now and the hunter watched as the waves of avians in front of him swooped down at high speeds. He grinned slightly and notched an arrow as the birds in front of him dove towards the black mass. He pulled the bowstring back as far as the bow would allow and grit his teeth as the Gukko began rapidly descending.

Ic:

Talk created a large barrier made out of leaves and grass, but the bugs simply flew over it.

"Drat." He thought. "I'm going to eed to make it tree-top height if its going to do anything."

This time he hung over the edge by his feet, and created a sucessful barrier, before almost falling off of the Gukko. Unfortunately, things like that required grand mental concentration, and whilst it stopped the bugs while the barrier was up, as soon as he got up the beetles were on their way again.

The Bo-Toa wore an incredulous look. A "what the karz are you thinking?!" look.

It quickly turned into a grin.

"You're one crazy ****er, ya know that?" Well let's not dilly-dally." He turned and headed back for Le-Koro, setting a fast but matchable pace for the matoran.

...but close to it
