Amazing find! I remember seeing the silver Huna and another Metru mask on BrickLink many years ago. When I wrote this topic I thought it was a Matatu (hence the entry in the first post), but now I'm wondering if it was actually a Mahiki.

Thanks! These look to be production molds: they're not 3D printed or anything like that. I compared them very closely to the metru masks from the sets, and couldn't spot any differences.

These masks are likely the same ones you remember! The person who sold them to me said he had bought them on BrickLink 10ish years ago together from the same store.

Yeah, they have been popping up in Denmark the past few years in used lots. Three popped up on reddit a few years ago. Since then one guy in particular has flipped several of them. So there should be more than 5x. My guess is the seller of this one told the OP he sold 5x, so I am guessing there have been 8x found. If I remember right, 3x of the ones that were found have cavity/mold numbers of 3 01 (Cavity 3 of mold 1). The molds hold 4 cavities, implying a minimum of 12 were made. But I highly doubt 100% of the ones made will ever be found. I need to reach out to this guy to see what his mold numbers are. I can't tell from the picture.

Wouldn't be surprised if that guy has multiple and is slow releasing them. If he revealed he had 20 of them up front there's no way they would go that high at auction.

Another medium blue/Turaga blue Kaukau has turned up in a couple Facebook groups (Bionicle Maskposting & The Bionicle Marketplace). Seller is claiming the previous listing in a FB page sold for 4500 Euro. Am I cynical for thinking the rough equivalent of 5 grand USD is beyond the pale? I'm no stranger to dropping fat stacks on plastic and I know these aren't as ubiquitous as something like the brown Komau, but still.

If I remember right that medium blue Kakama sale was $4,500 USD, not euro, and I think that was only the 4th known one at the time. The economy was a lot better back then, and I think that was at the height of the COVID/post-COVID craze. Collectible hobbies in general seem to have cooled off a lot since then. I believe this is the 11th MB Kakama to pop up, but there have probably been more private sales I am unaware of. A buyer on reddit mentioned he bid on the $4,500 one and lost, but was recently approached with a private offer for a different one. I am guessing a decent number of the high bidders still in the game have already bought one privately at this point, so another Facebook auction would be very unlikely to even reach $2,250. The last public auction I am aware of was February 11th with one bid for $1,673.12, and that was after it had been sitting on bricklink for $2,000 since December 30th.

I hope it's alright for me to announce this here.

I'll likely be starting to slowly sell the protos I found around 2 years ago, starting with the Trident. I will be doing so through Bricklink, so if you're interested please make sure you have the parts on your wanted list alerts.

Unfortunately I will not be able to sell the parts to US residents since the DHL stopped all private shipments to the states above 800€ as a response the increase in bureocratic hurdles as a result of the tarrifs. The other shipping company I used to use downright stopped all shipments outside the EU earlier this year. I also don't see any of this changing in the near future, so I'm sorry for that.
