IC: "The liquid is two parts hydrogen, one part oxygen, though biological matter is scattered within, along with a dissolved concentration of sodium chloride."As the Icterine landed, the landing pad began to descend, until the ship was below the surface of the water. A glass panel extended over the top, to offer the ship protection from any storms. The pad itself was circular, and flat on the top, rounding off to the surface of the water. An automated transmission told the Alizarin that the hangar would protect the ship from any animals or storm hazards. Meanwhile, the Alizarin could see a large, squid-like creature approaching, followed by several Sui'Malo on water scooters, the motorcycle like vehicles knifing through the water. The large squid flashed an Alizarin color pattern, signalling, "Do not be alarmed. We are here to escort you."The ship rested on a metal platform, connected to the upper pad by two telescoping poles. It was surrounded by panes of a substance that looked like glass, but was far stronger. One of these slide to the side, providing a space for the Alizarin to exit.IC: Lehua glanced confusedly at the Minister. "They've declined our communication request."The Tsui'nau let out a mental sigh. Hopefully we'll encounter them here so we may speak. Land the ship. The Undending Truth began descending, moving towards the hangar. It docked, exhaust hissing as it landed. The ship was long and silver, the back section divided into plate-like sections and curved slightly downward. Small metal legs extended, supporting it. It looked much like a metal shrimp. The ship began reading atmospheric levels, determining that there was a gaseous, not liquid atmosphere. The Minister thought for a moment. The Pilot will remain on the ship. The guards will be forced to wear environmental armor. The Bivalvi will be fine. I'll have to use the bubble. After his orders were carried out, the five beings entered the sealock. The water was removed, replaced with air. A hatch on the ship's "tail" opened, and the two Bivalvi came out first, helmets down, followed by the guards, who were completely covered in their ornate, glowing armor, helmets over their faces. They carried their staves as a hovering tank of a hard, plastic substance that appeared to be glass floated out, containing the Tsui'nau. It looked like a floating fishbowl.Greetings, projected the Minister to the aliens, his voice echoing in their minds. I am Minister Cal-te 4432, representing the Treanuan Dominion.

IC:Sienta nodded with an odd mix of disappointment and relief. She was glad that some cultural ideas had a half chance of making a transfer, but all the same, ever since she'd heard about the five-gendered rodents on Lianka she'd wanted to know what such an arrangement would have on sentient culture. Sienta decided to inspect her surroundings.OOC: The Syrrinx Colony in 2-15 has been named Nadwoo.

IC: [Infinitus, Stateroom]Licht nodded. "My proper title is Chancellor, but regardless. I expect that this alliance will prove beneficial to us both. If you will, I have an aide ready to guide you back to your shuttle bay."He waited until the Sanshoran chiefs of state departed, then returned to the bridge."Let's go." Licht ordered. "Everyone return to Ithaka. Astrogation, send a star chart file to our new friends.""Aye, sir." The astrogation officer said. In a few moments, the information was away to the Sanshoran colonies (and the Sanshoran information had been recorded in the Infinitus' databases), and the Osalieli fleet vanished from the system. The fleet reappeared in the Ithaka system, and Licht sent a priority message back to Baross: "Press conference. Two hours." :w:

IC(ToA): "Welcome." Came the response. The one greeting the aliens was the comms lieutenant from before. "Most of the Primarchs are in another meeting, but the local one was scheduled for this beforehand, so I can get you started there if you want."IC(Xom): The room wasn't particularly ornate, being on a colony that was still under construction, though what furnishings there had been time to appoint were clear - the walls had one or two pieces of artwork, and the table in the center of the room was a solid wooden piece. Otherwise though, the room was fairly bare. Moments later, four members of the same race as the comms officer, one taller and dressed more regally than the others, entered the room; humanoid, almost avian-looking figures with metallic carapaces, each cleaned and well-kept unlike the comms officer, outside of what appeared to be tribal markings painted on their faces. They sat down around the table, aside from the one moreso dressed, who stood, staring in awe."Unbelievable. Millennia, we figured no other sentient life reached the same level..." At that, he sat down, placing a three-fingered hand on the table in front of him. "This isn't really something that's ever happened before, so I'm admittedly not sure where to start. I'm hoping you have some sort of experience?"

IC: The Tsui'nau was obviously the leader of the group, as the rest remained silent. That sounds fine to me. Would you lead the way?A quick attempt at a mental scan, which the alien wouldn't feel, confirmed the Minister's suspicions.So... It is true. We are not gods, he thought. A strange feeling was in his mind- not quite sadness, but definitely not happiness. The feeling you get when you find out that everything you know is a lie.

IC:"This will be my second experience of First Contact in two days." Sienta said, sitting down in a chair that was slightly too small for her. "The last one ended with threats rather than promises of friendship. Hopefully this one goes differently. Allow me to formally greet you on behalf of the Syrrinx Republic. My name is Sienta Kralan" The Xenologer spoke her name slowly, knowing that proper nouns were beyond the translator's ability. "I am a Xenologer. Until recently, I studied theoretical alien cultures. IC(ToA): "Very well." At that, the lieutenant walked off, gesturing for the alien to follow.IC(Xom): "Given the circumstances, I can see how that would be beneficial. Argus R. Kavira, Primarch of Ilavena, and as such, ostensible leader of my people, the Natiru. The others are Nila Cexe, Primarch of Stroba, Lihnu Kriky, Primarch of Sedana, and Osled Triera, Primarch of Semini. IC: The Treanuan procession followed the lieutenant, the Marines slinging their guns over their shoulders. The two guards held their staves tightly, looking out from within the black glass of their viewscreens, HUD's reading over the alien's vitals. The Bivalvi Marine's armor was doing the same, recording such details about the species as could be gathered, and transmitting them to the ship. The Minister projected his voice into the lieutenant's mind again. So, soldier, what are your people called?

IC:Sienta suddenly found herself blanking. "Well, I'm no sociologist, but Xenology is close..." Sienta thought for a moment. "Syrrinx society is in a word, diverse. We have hundreds of ethnic groups identifiable by a number of features; my bright green scales, for instance, indicate that my race comes from a dense jungle area, though you'd have no chance guessing which one; my accent is a better identifier there. On our homeworld, known as Ath, there are some seventy languages with official recognition, meaning they're spoken as a first language by at least one million Syrrinx. Our off-world colonies, Lianka, Calinar, and Nadwoo, are different cultures altogether, unified only by Kaan, the official language of Space, which I'm speaking now." Sienta took a breath of air. It was crisp, not as metallic as the air scrubbers left it on a Syrrinx Navy ship."One of the unifying factors of the Syrrinx People is the Space Effort; our people are constantly expanding out into the stars, more so now that we've invented the Jump Drive. Another unifier is the Syrrinx Republic, essentially a political and military government which regulates the Syrrinx and does its best to keep fratricidal wars down.""Our race is gender-imbalanced; I am a female, and for each female around there are four males. Females are also simply more intelligent than males; higher brain-mass ratio. Males, on the other hand, have higher muscle to mass ratio, making them stronger and faster. This has lots of effects on our culture. We have no enemies amongst the stars, but I would advise you not to grow too close with the group of races currently contacting you."

IC(ToA): "We're known as Natiru, it's a na--" She glanced behind herself as she spoke, stopping as she saw the group behind her. "I'm sorry, but I'm going to need all but one of you to remain with the ship. This isn't exactly an everyday occurrence, with all due respect, we don't want a group of beings unlike anything we know scaring the workers. Especially when you're armed with much more than a sidearm or two. ...Those are weapons, right?"IC(Xom): The Primarchs nodded, the one who had asked the question tapping the screen of a glowing tablet, three taloned fingers clacking against the device."You mentioned contact with another race." Another of them joined into the conversation. "I had to clear my schedule and get rushed onto a shuttle for this, so maybe I just never heard the news, but as far as I know, you're the only alien race we're in contact with?" Across from him, the one who was holding the tablet shook his head."Apparently a comms lieutenant was contacted by another race. They're the ones your brother's with, Osled, it's why he's not here." Argus nodded, turning back to Sienta."May I ask what exactly the issue is with the other race? Just as well, how you know of them, and how you know we do?"

IC: [Chancellory, Press Briefing Room]"Chancellor Licht has returned from his meeting with the recently discovered race, which according to sources inside the Chancellory is called the 'Sanshorans.'" A news anchor sat at his desk, staring into the camera as he read his lines from a screen behind the camera. "Upon his return, the Chancellor announced a press release, believed to be regarding his negotiations with the Sanshorans. It is scheduled to begin in five minutes. We now go live to the Chancellory."The camera view changed from the newsroom to a view of an empty podium in the front of the Press Briefing Room. The dais had a red carpet with black curtains behind the podium, and the official seal of the Chancellory on the front of the podium. Shortly, Lichttook up a place behind the podium, glanced down at the paper sitting on it, and then spoke."People of the Osalieli Imperium." He began. "I am please to tell you that today, in the year 3051 Ab Urbe Condita, we have made first contact with an alien race."It wasn't more than a few years ago that we first built interstellar vessels and built the colonies of Ithaka and Gallia. Only a few months ago, the prestigious Aspera Institute invented the Jump Drive and began exploring the stars in earnest, and since then our civilization has exploded in growth and prosperity. We have founded a true Space Navy, and we are close to completing space elevators on both Ithaka and Gallia. The new colony of Masada was founded just a few days ago. We are truly in a golden age."But we discovered that we were not alone. At first, we thought that there were aliens to our galactic north, but recent telescope observations of that area have provided evidence to the contrary. But three weeks ago, we encountered another race much closer to home. The Mother of Invention reached a new solar system, only to find, to their surprise, that it was already occupied. Admirably following established protocol, they withdrew while being hailed by what we now know to be a request for identification and warning. At that time, the OSN Infinitus was not complete, and we were forced to wait until it was completed before we presented ourselves to the Sanshorans. It was completed just yesterday, and we moved with all haste to greet the Sanshorans, using a translator that the admirable scientific community managed to put together in the meantime. It served us admirably, being able to accurately translate between our two languages with no notable problems."The Sanshorans greeted us with the same request for identification that they had given the Mother of Invention, and shortly after we made contact with them. I personally requested to meet with Supreme Consul Valaticus, and he, along with three other Consuls, arrived onboard the Infinitus, where I and Admiral Legato met them with an honor guard. We engaged in negotiations in a private stateroom, and it took a very short time to arrive at an agreement, which I was empowered to sign by the Concilium Plebis upon my departure from Ithaka."Licht took a deep breath. "I am pleased to announce that we are officially allies with the Sanshoran race. We have pledged to defend each other in the event of military incursions, and we have cleared civilian companies to begin trading with Sanshoran companies and vice versa. I fully expect that both of our civilizations will thrive and build off of one another, and I pray that we will one day grow beyond even my wildest dreams. Good night, and may Deun bless the Imperium."The press erupted in a symphony of questions, but Licht stepped away from the podium and the Secretary of External Affairs took the podium, answering questions.:w:

IC:"Well, their government is simple. One race keeps the others as slaves under the pretense of being gods." Sienta said. "My ship made contact with them not, well, our time units are meaningless to you, so not too long ago. They introduced their leader as a god and all but demanded I kneel to them. I introduced myself and presented myself as an equal, and was nearly attacked for doing so. As for how we know they're here, when we jumped into this system, we very nearly warped on top of their scout craft."

IC(ToA): "As long as he's willing to keep from interfering in any negotiations - we don't believe in those not assigned to a position taking its responsibilities, unless under duress."IC(Xom): "Yes, but how do you know they made contact with us? Docking reports show your ship arrived first, and comm channels were separate." At that, he slid the small pad across the table, two charts showing docking orders and comm records for both races."Given you're the only one who can claim to have had experience with them, benefit of the doubt, I'll send off a message to my brother to be wary of this." Osled ran his hands over a tablet of his own as he spoke, clearly concerned given the nature of his brother's "visitor.""Still, any firsthand experience is a better measure in my mind." A fourth Primarch added his voice in, a gravelier quality in it seeming to indicate this one was older than his colleagues."Regardless, Ranes is trained in combat, if he's attacked by these visitors I'm confident he can handle himself. Getting back to our discussion, why exactly are you out this far? Even if you have FTL technology, twelve lightyears out is a long way to go to what, to your knowledge, was little more than a ball of dead rock."

IC:"At first, we were exploring. Then we found these Slavers. We were scanning their systems; passing through, taking astronomical data, and leaving. They haven't got anything resembling a military navy, so they couldn't do much to protest. There's only one empty system between their territory and yours, which we passed through thinking that perhaps they overlooked it or hadn't invested in a world that might be useless to them, so we moved through and found you."

IC: Thank you, and he will not interfere. The two Treanuans followed the Lieutenant to the conference room.OOC: Sorry about the short IC- not sure what else to write. I'll let you go ahead and describe things, Necro. :PIC: Back on Treanu, the grand council had been called again. The Tsui'nau floated in the circular room, whispering among themselves at what had happened since the last council. The Grand Proctor began to speak, all others quieting.By now, I'm sure you're all aware of the events on Bivali Mun. Proctor Tau'mec 9054, if you will speak.Another Tsui'nau moved forward, and began to communicate.Less than a day ago an alien race known as the Syrrinx made themselves known to us. They were admitted peacefully, but from the start appeared rash and impolite. They insulted our godhood. I attempted to enter their minds, but was unable to-Another Tsui'nau spoke up.What do you mean? Have they free will, like the Bivali? The Proctor nodded.I believe free will may be more common than was believed- I will even venture to say that we are only the gods of Treanu, of our people- I believe the Syrrinx, and perhaps any other race, will be immune to our control. The other Tsui'nau murmured nervously, but the Grand Proctor shushed them, then motioned for the Proctor of 2-43 to continue. At no time were the Syrrinx ever threatened or in danger, though they insulted our very way of life most of the time. At the end of our meeting, I proposed a pact of non-agression, which they declined, leaving with veiled threats. I believe, though I hope not, that we may have found an enemy in the stars. The Grand Proctor began to speak again.Thank you, Proctor Tau'mec 9054. Tsui'nau, listen to his words. The first alien race we encounter left us with veiled threats of violence? How many more, similar races can we expect to find?Soon, the colonies will be producing resources of their own, and our first ships, the Caridea-Class Corvettes, will be complete. They will be the first of our spacefleet.I propose this- When the colonies begin producing resources, those resources go to a Cnidaria-Class colonizer. Treanu will focus on the building of a dreadnought- an Architeuthidae. This will add to our strength. When the colonizer is complete, we will colonize 2-41. Scouts have showed a large amount of resources there. Once all this is complete, our attention will go to the buildup or starbases in all out systems, as well as Teuthida-Class Battlecruisers. We will also continue to expand, slowly but surely. With this plan, we will build a fleet capable of defending us from a hostile species. Until our fleet is built, and even after we must attempt to ally with any race we can. With enemies out there, we need allies. All in favor? As before, the designs of the ships were flashed on the holo-projector. The Tsui'nau murmured assent, agreeing to the plan, each one in turn.Good. The plan will be carried out. This meeting is adjourned. The gods and the people of Treanu! transmitted the Grand Proctor, with emphasis. The other politicians repeated the phrase, and began to leave.Soon, thought the Grand Proctor. Soon we will be strong.

OOC: I'm the last person who should complain about short posts. :PIC(ToA): The conference room was much like the other; while mostly bare as you would expect from a new colony, there were a few decorations here and there, and a wooden table, albeit smaller, in the center. At it sat another Natiru, also well-dressed, his carapace grander than most of the others, and well-worn in his face, with small metal pieces and replacements in a few spots where there was organic tissue on the lieutenant. Whether these were for augmentation or replacement for lost parts was unclear, though given there isn't much enhancement to do to the jaw, the latter was more likely."If you had told me this morning that I'd be meeting with a sentient alien race with technology equal to our own today, I'd have laughed at you." Though still intelligible and natural-sounding, due to the metal replacements, there was a certain metallic quality to his voice. "One never knows what a day will bring. Sit down, all three of you." The lieutenant nodded, taking a seat at the table and motioning the others to do so. "Ranes Triera, Primarch of this colony, which, at the moment, has no name."IC(Xom): "So then it wouldn't be a leap of the imagination to assume that if and when they colonize that world, if they're as you say they are, we'd be faced with a war for our own freedom?" Argus grimaced, clearly not happy with the thought."I don't know, the whole thing seems odd to me." The older Primarch added. "Still, better to break someone's leg and have to nurse them than become a slave. Can't hurt to be careful."The one who had given Sienta the tablet nodded. "I'm in agreement with Nila here. Still, as long as they're here, I say we wait and see for now. Keep an eye on their borders if we can though, even if they don't show signs of hostility now, the fact they have for something so small before is enough to warrant concern and a wary eye. You said you had scouted their systems?""Also, you still never answered how you knew they were here.""Are we really going to nitpick this, Osled? For all we know, they've got some weird receiver on their ship that picked up both channels. It's aliens, all bets are off." The one being called Osled sighed, lowering his head in annoyance."I'm a Primarch of a colony just like you, do you have to keep holding my hand like I'm a child, Lihnu?""Yes. I do. I'm your godfather. It's my job." He responded flatly."Can we please keep family affairs out of this for now?" Whether this was a regular issue Argus was used to dealing with, or a new one, was unclear. "I'm sorry about that - families are always hectic, eh? Or...at least with us usually. Anyway, back to the issues at hand, you said you scouted their systems?"

OOC: Wait, when did who say they're colonizing where?IC(Xom): "So then I'd think we'd have an advantage if it came to war. Or at least we would, if we could put some funds towards building transports more efficient than the civilian junk we're using to ferry between colonies right now." As he spoke, Nila gestured with his head towards Argus, who shot a look back in return."If it came to war, you and I both know that we'd divert as much funding as possible to the military effort. But being as that would be the first interstellar war we've ever had, I don't think anyone would be surprised that we're starting from the ground up. Either way, we're not starting war with a new species as soon as we know they exist. It's hard to hate something you just met." The comment garnered a few chuckles from the others, the humor breaking a bit of the tension."Anyway, this is the first time we'd ever be doing something like this, so we're about as green to all this as you are. It's a stupid question, I admit, but what exactly should we work out in negotiation?"IC(ToA): The Primarch nodded."I'm curious mainly about society, to start off. It's hard to know what agreements are mutually beneficial without knowing something about your partner. Would it be presumptuous to ask you to start?" Though there was still a metallic tone in it, Ranes' voice also gained a fairly warm, relaxed character to it, fitting of his negotiating tendencies; there's no better way to push for success in business than to make someone feel welcome.

IC: Of course not, chuckled the Minister. I will start. Lehua, if you please? The Bivalvi remained silent, but removed a small disk, and set it on the table. It glowed, and projected a hologram of an ocean world, dotted here and there with the tiniest of islands. It was orbited by a moon about 1/2 its own size, covered in shallow seas and sandy islands. This is Treanu, our home, and our neighboring moon, Bival, the home of Lehua's people.I am a Tsui'nau, said the Minister, a picture popping up of one of his race. Now, before I go into further detail, our way of life may sound strange and shocking to you, as it did with our first contact. We only ask that you respect our way of life- we will never force it on you.The Tsui'nau are the gods of Treanu. That is the way it has always been. The Sui'Malo, the Maladu, the Ka'sharek-As he spoke, a hologram of each popped up.All are our followers, and serve us. The discovery of life on Bival happened 400 years ago. With all the confusion, there was a war- our most recent, and the first in over a thousand years. We are not a species given to war.A hologram of a Bivali popped up.These are the Bivali- Lehua's people. While they possess their own free will, unlike the other races, they still choose to follow us. Our races all have a peaceful, mutually beneficial relationship. We are close neighbors, and so cooperation between our races is vital to regional security. I may be a god on Treanu, but I look on your race as equals, as do my peers, and our followers. I hope we are able to form a prosperous relationship. They hologram deactivated.Have you any questions? asked the Minister, keeping his polite and friendly tone.

Colonizing it would kind of mean razing one of my colonies, which I will tell you right now will be an act of immediate war.IC(ToA): "Wait, I'm confused. You're their Gods? As in, I'm more or less speaking to a deity face-to-face based on your society?" Though there wasn't any hostility in the voice, there was, as was said, genuine confusion.IC(Xom): "If you can get us there, we'll help you fight a war if it comes to one.""Every single one of us knows how to fight. From the minute they're big enough to hold an assault rifle, every single kid is trained so they can fight, defend themselves, and shoot to kill, wound, incapacitate, whatever you need. I could attack an unarmed kid who's just old enough to start working with a machine gun, and he'd be able to knock me back, disable the gun, then fight me on even grounds. Of course I'd win eventually, but...""You know they haven't showed signs of hostility, we're still jumping the gun.""So lets wait on your brother for now. He'll take care of things either way. If there's anything that metal-jawed moron can do well other than beat things to death, it's, oddly enough, get a good, friendly negotiation."

My race completely recognizes your sovereignty and would not dare to infringe upon it.If the Primarch was observant, he would notice that, every time he heard the Tsui'nau's voice in his head, the small neural devices on the alien's "head" glowed brighter.OOC: What's the correct term for a jellyfish's cap?

Well, would you just look at that?

IC: "But this would mean that we'd have less value in your systems, right? Gods vs. mortals, the divine tend to win. I'm not trying to start a fight, I'm just trying to get an idea of how interspecies relations would work."OOC: I never really liked biology, so your guess is as good as mine.

IC: We will see you as equals. The only races to view us as gods are the ones native to our two worlds. Your race will have no less value with us- we are equal. The Minister worked this statement in quite a bit, clearly trying to get his point across. While the Tsui'nau may be the gods of Treanu, in space they were equals.

Well, would you just look at that?

OOC: It's Cap.IC:"Don't go jumping into anything." Sienta said. "Last thing we want is to get into a war unprepared. Now, I propose that our races exchange star-charts, so we can know where each other lie."

That being said, thag thag thaggity thag thagness.

IC: The Maladu's skin flashed again. If each of you will board one of the small vehicles, we will escort you into the city.IC: The people of the Treanuan dominion cheered as they watched the Caridea-Class corvettes roll off the line. This was their first real spacefleet, and it was a vital step to protecting their interests. It was announced that, as the colonies were able to send out resources, together they would begin construction of a Cnidaria-Class Colonizer. For now, the shipyards of Treanu would begin producing an Architeuthudae-Class Dreadnought.

OOC: The body of a jellyfish can be referred to as a bell or a cap - bell is considered the proper term.

IC: The Jadis slid from its berth in the Ithakan Skydocks, the first of its kind--both the first medium-size vessel that the Imperium had completed and the first Sicarius-class raider in the Navy employ. Its crew was some of the most well-trained Osalieli the Navy had to offer, and its Captain had a reputation as a cunning and daredevil tactician and strategist.Meanwhile, the Skydocks themselves began work on a run of fighters, while other production runs of fighters on Baross and Gallia completed.:w:

A note on Drydocking: the ships are empty and useless, but you need to at one point have your vessels supported before drydocking them; can't build stuff and just drydock it until your industry improves.IC: Faerie from 2-9 to 2-15. Rendezvousing with the four Changelings above Nadwoo

IC: The vehicles sped through the water, entering a huge city. The buildings were constructed of metal, glass, and coral- technology and nature intertwined. Thousands of Sui'malo swam between the buildings, entering and exiting openings in the sides, while Maladu glided through the streets or walked along the ocean floor, which was covered by waving coral. In the distance, a tribe of Ka'sharek could be seen hunting fishlike animals, jumping down upon them with spears, while in the city Treanuans carried technology with them- holoprojectors, water scooters, translators- a unique mix of old and new. The sentient life was not the only life there though- thousands of fish-like creatures, as well as many other animals swam through the reefs, sharklike predators patrolling farther up, past the tops of the buildings. It was a beautiful sight. The Maladu led them towards the largest tower, in the center of the city, with an opening in the top. As they swam, his lights flashed again. What do you think of Tuonata so far?

OOC: It might interest you to know that the second of three batches of fighters is now complete and on-station aboard the trio of Carreg-dur. It might also interest you to know that, at exactly the same time the third batch is finished, my two Inner Worlds will become Core Worlds, allowing awesomeness to begin happening. No, I'm kidding. It's going to be ridiculous, snail-paced, and dumb as a brick.

OOC: That reminds me, I think the upgrades are done to my protectorates to make them self-sustaining, and I think this colony is a protectorate now. Which should mean I can finally build stuff.IC(Xom): "Alright, I believe that's agreeable. Show of hands?" Each of the other three primarchs raised an arm, Argus nodding at the signs. "Okay, that's settled then. If you have something that can interface with Lihnu's tablet, you can download our charts from it. How can we get yours?"IC(ToA): "Forgive me, it's just that there's never really been something like this in our history I can compare it to, so I'm having a little trouble wrapping my head around it." Ranes gestured to the other alien in the room. "Your name was...Lehua, right? You're one of the races that our visitor is a god to, maybe looking at things from another angle will help me understand this. What's your take on all of this?"OOC: For the record, I do get it - just playing the character. :P
