Alex Humva Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 IC [Location: Citamgine. Identity: General]Citamgine no longer burned; with the Council dead and the loyalists disorganized the rebels had quickly taken the capital, securing their position and beginning the struggle to form a new government. They now knew the model the Confederation used would not work; so they began working on a new form, a Council not elected by national leaders, but a Senate elected by the people. The numerous nations that were in the Confederation would become less nation and more state. There was some debate over the name, but it eventually was decided... the Natsirt Star Empire. A new government for a new, bold age.Meanwhile the economy had taken minimal damage; the businesses, having sided with the rebellion, had kept their workers safe, and all the other businesses that didn't side stayed neutral and out of the fighting. Soon enough the colony worlds would become great forge worlds, and while the lose of New Kory had put their economy back, the Natsirt knew they would recover. Lara White Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 OOC: Just want to point out that the Osalieli were usikng tight-beam comms to the TAP HQ, meaning that unless you were in the line of the radio beam, you couldn't pick it up. It's something like a laser pointer--unless you're on the other end of the beam, you won't see it. Hence why the Imperium uses them. :w:
Kothra Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 OOC: You say that while assuming that all TAP-related comms were conveniently wide open for you to pick up?
Lara White Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 (edited) OOC: Only the civvie ones, which I think they'd be much less careful about concealing. Besides, all it has to do is poke around the ground networks instead of the planet-orbit ones...I'm still not sure how ansibles work, though. To clarify, I don't mind him picking it up...just not sure how he'd do it. Edited November 24, 2011 by Lloyd: the White Wolf
Kothra Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 OOC: Okay, but then that does void what you said about picking up transmissions from all three races over 1-10 since there still wouldn't really be any trans-species civilian communications yet, and even if they were it'd probably be about mundane stuff.Maybe I'm overreacting or something. Whatever.
Lara White Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 OOC: Well, you guys seemed tight enough to have civvie comms, at minimum news channels, and frankly I haven't even delved into any Natsirt or Thernian comms yet--only stuff that the Kalarii public would be talking about (IE "Big news broadcast about TAP! Oh, the navy vanished to go do something!") But whatever, not really a big deal. :w:
Kothra Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 OOC: Why are you never on AIM anymore? It'd be much better to use that than filling the thread with stuff. But anyway ship movement from where the civilian sees it doesn't imply actual military action; it could just be a training excercise or something.Just stuff to keep in mind. And get back on AIM (well not neccesarily tonight or anything but just in the future).
Xomeron Posted November 24, 2011 Author Posted November 24, 2011 Ansibles are a tight beam, and you can't scramble them. Only way to intercept them is by being roughly where the receiver would normally be, since that's where the light slows down to lightspeed. Alex Humva Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 (edited) OOCWhich is why I assumed it was slower than light transmission; I know FTL transmissions are 'unless you're very good, you aren't getting it'.Ah well, if it can't be done I'll just say he saw the ship in orbit, had seen the designs of the ships encountered at 1-16 and guessed from there.Oh and a fair word of warning Lloyd; trying to wiretap me will probably result in getting wiretapped right back. There may be a newer, less tyrant like government, but the CIA is still alive and well and their mission is still the same. If they catch you tapping into the Natsirt comms, well, they'll use it at every opportunity they can.IC [Location: Citamgine. Identity: Admiral Adoc]The admiral had been busy since the capital was taken; after he had left the bunker he'd made very careful steps to make sure no one ever knew he was even there in the first place. As far as the Head Admiral knew, or anyone for that matter, Adoc had been away on a civilian exploration mission. It was vital that no one knew his involvement in the events that took place, lest he be uncovered. That he knew would result in an extremely quick death by his superiors; sloppiness wasn't appreciated in the Agency, at least, not for those actually employed. Sure, the fools that were suppose to be the CIA were sloppy, but that was to make sure no one looked too carefully at what was really happening behind the scenes. Now he sat in a room, a small window looking out onto the street. He didn't indulge in all the pleasures that came with being a high ranking member of the Agency. Though now it was the Imperial Intelligence Agency; IIA just didn't have the same ring as CIA, in his opinion, but he didn't make the names.A beeping noise came from his pocket, him pulling out his phone and answering."I trust all the evidence is removed." A voice said."Completely." Adoc stood up, clicking on a sonic jammer and pressing a device to the window. Not everyone watching was on his side. "The new government is being ever so gently helped. They should have complete control soon enough, and with a little nudging will begin the new fleet overhaul.""Good; the businesses are thriving and the colonies will soon be powerful enough to supply a new wave of starbases. We've already begun work on a class of ships to do some surveillance on our alien enemies. We need to find out just how serious of a mistake the former government made." The voice sighed. "Your civilian transport is due to arrive soon; you can resurface and take your position in the military. The Head Admiral is smart; it won't be easy keeping under cover." "I'll do my best."The phone clicked off, the admiral putting it back in his pocket. Time to resurface indeed. Xomeron Posted November 24, 2011 Author Posted November 24, 2011 One note: With enough distance, even a tight beam spreads out into a cone. This is important for two reasons.1: It allows vessels to intercept the transmission while not interrupting the transmission.2: With two separate ships, you can determine the origin point of the cone, and find the original transmitter. HeavyMetalSunshineSister Posted November 25, 2011 Posted November 25, 2011 OOC: Well, seeing as Forge Worlds and all that, time to have some giggles (and a significantly improved fleet). Hurrah for technology, hurrah for diplomacy, hurrah for the Alizarin!Class Name: MarwolaethClass Size: SmallClass Function and Description: The turreted laser array carried by the Marwolaeth is primarily designed for hunting small and medium ships, though concentrated fire can down larger vessels. The point-defense grid mounted on the ship makes it ideal as a fighter-killer - though, given the relative complexity of the grid, not quite as good as a dedicated starbase. As all elements of this ship's armament are heavily reliant on targeting computers, the crew's tasks are largely relegated to navigation, communication, and, in combat, evasion.Class Weapons: Dant-a-Grafanc (2), Solet armor (1), Llygad o Dân (1)Name: Llygad o DânWeapon Size: MediumMechanics: Based on a central laser-emitter (using technology borrowed from the Alizarin) that uses an adaptive-optics system to direct the energy to one of two turrets positioned on opposite sides of a vessel. Said turrets then open a shutter on a lens, allowing the laser to reach out and rather violently touch whatever target the integrated targeting computer has selected. While one turret is firing, the computer can be selecting a target for the companion turret to fire at, allowing a nearly continuous rate of fire. Because the guts of the weapon - emitter, main optical systems, computer - are located in the guts of the ship, only the turrets are vulnerable to enemy fire to any degree.Class Name: Marwolaeth MawrClass Size: MediumClass Function and Description: The big brother of the Marwolaeth, the Marwolaeth Mawr sacrifices an extra layer of armor in order to pack a Gwaed-a-Dur gauss cannon on top of the standard armaments of the smaller class of ship. While it lacks the single-strike punch of the Brawd-dur or the maneuverability of the Marwolaeth, the Marwolaeth Mawr is more versatile than either design, capable of serving either as a front-line destroyer or an oversized rapid-strike frigate.Class Weapons: Dant-a-Grafanc (2), Gwaed-a-Dur (1), Llygad o Dân (1)With the newly available resources from my beautiful Forge Worlds, I decree that Diemwnt-Drwg shall henceforce begin producing 4 Marwolaeth, and Diemwnt-Blaidd will produce 1 Marwolaeth Mawr.
