"I'm afraid I don't understand your manly metaphor, Gary-San," I retorted while hurriedly routing a message to the fortress' intelligence division.  "I was never good at history.  All I know is that if we don't have a serious force in the next few minutes I'm going to be plastered across the bridge for some poor crew to clean up."

"Search up Pyrrhus of Epirus some time," replied Garry, before switching to a public channel. "Everyone! We have quite a number of robots coming our way. Anyone who can pilot, we'll be needing you."

I'll look it up if I live, I thought with a wry smile.  Glancing at my current Core energy balance, I licked bit my lower lip in nervous habit.  This should be interesting.  Punching forward, I drove my Uplink mech farther from the advancing forces, then stopped halfway to my destination.

"Gary-san," I say slowly; "Remember how you always say a man should face things head on?  Well, men who face things head on are cool, right?  In that case...  I'm going to be cool!  Get out here soon!"

With the pumping of adrenaline and something I called cool-ness (other's probably called it recklessness or hormones), I pushed the accelerator to the floor and sprinted towards the opposing force.

Hezeka aimed at the bot riders with the Stealth Hunter rifle. Using his cross-hairs on his HUD to shoot precisely at them. He then fired a shot at a Thunder Fury, then to a Sentry.

"I suggest we aim at the riders, make it easier to take them out. Also cut off their power supply."

"Hey, Zyki-San, that was an accident the last time.  Kazebushi had her legs torn off.  Not much I could do about that, now could I," I defended against the female voice chipper in my ear.  "I'm just gonna' defeat them this time.  Simple and cool.  We need more analysis of their combat techniques anyway, why not use a mech that records these things in real time?"  I was within firing range of their missiles now, but so far had remained unharmed.  My shields were going to save and break me in this battle, so I decided to rely on speed and manual controls.  Flipping the dial up, a red light illuminated the panel to engage manual operation.  Kazebushi paused in mid-stride, then burst forward as my combat boots locked into the foot controls.  My chair began to fold up, pulling me into a standing position.

"Gary-San, I don't like the speed of this attack at all.  The robots have never rallied and countered within an hour.  My HUD helps with things in range, but can you patch me through your more advanced readouts so I can see better what's going on?  I like your idea about the riders, Hazeka-San, but getting the Cores will be a challenge unless I can turn them off phalanx."

Crushing the last few hundred meters with daring speed, I pulled the automatic pistol from its home on the left thigh, a burst of air flashing behind me as the armor plating opened up to release the weapon.  Not taking aim, I gripped my left control stem and pulled the index trigger.  Kazebushi's hand responded, and a spray of laser light vanished into the ranks of oncoming Sentry mechs.  Good, a little confusion to deal with, I thought while silently praying to mess with their programming.  Robots were intelligent, but every now and again you could one up them on creativity and disrupt the algorithms running inside their CPU.

"I need someone to take out the flame throwers.  Does someone have a clear shot," I shouted, my voice cool and direct as Kazebushi plunged headfirst into the enemy forces, gun and tachi blazing as my piloting skills were put to the test.  Our orange and black armor quickly vanished within the ranks, becoming too close for guns without inflicting casualties to their own side.  Knowing robots, I mused dryly, they really don't care.OOC:  Okay, I just hope he doesn't get killed from this.  However, its totally an insane (on the surface) thing to do.  However, note the tactics behind his "spearhead." :P

IC:"I do," Cyrista sent over. He rotated his machine guns above his arms, putting them into single-fire mode, increasing accuracy. He began firing at the fuel tanks, hoping to blow them up and put out the Fire Vulture's fire. "Also, the Fire Vulture on the far right from our side, keep its pilot alive. I want to capture it for study."

IC: D-8015

Just behind the phalanx of brown-armored Sentries stood a larger, and significantly more heavily armed, Battle Machine.  One piloted by a silver-plated Devastator robot that was significantly more intelligent than the bronze Iron Drones that operated the Sentries.  And as it was, it was in a relatively good position to respond with appropriate force to the rather unexpected attack.  Well, unexpected for the Iron Drones, with their rather limited programming.  Not so much for the Devastator, which looked slightly different from the normal Devastator model upon closer inspection.

Not so unexpectedly, as a black and orange-armored Uplink-class mech dove into the group of Sentries, the Robot pilots simply turned their Surge Cannons onto the Battle Machine designated Kazebushi.  They were completely uncaring to the fact that any shots fired at this range would certainly go through almost any armor, and into any friendly units behind the target.  However, before their weapons' capacitors could begin to charge, a cold, mechanical voice rang out over their radios, one identical in every way to their own.

"Sentry Units 436, 285, 674a, and 682: Fall back, defensive pattern Alpha-A-A-Gamma-Two."

Wordlessly, as Robots did not complain or illogically defy orders- yet another reason why they were immensely superior to humans- the four Sentries quickly backed away from the Uplink before any damage could be sustained, and proceeded to form up along the flanks of the orange-trimmed Thunder Fury.  The maneuver cleared a space of sorts within the Robot's formation, occupied solely by Kazebushi and the heavily modified Thunder Fury known to it's pilot as ETF-3.

If it's pilot, D-8015, had been human, for surely Robots were incapable of feeling emotion of any kind, he might've smiled.  Pity, The small portion of his programming set aside for extra tasks thought within milliseconds, Perhaps this will do instead.

Though he had no way of knowing if the roar of his mech's Titanium Power Saw did or not.  Or whether the fact that his mech began to stomp towards the admittedly smaller Uplink further conveyed the message anymore.

IC:

Hezeka aimed at the Fury in front of the Kazebushi. He set his sights on the driver, and fired a round towards him. He then aimed at the Vulture Cyrista had told. He aimed the Rifle at the fuel tank of flame thrower. "I got a clear shot at that Vulture, but I have no guarantee that it will come out alive."

IC:

The Crimson Gunner came out from the Robot side of the bridge. 'Ranger' began to 'wallk over towards the Phalanx of drones in front of him. He aimed the laser cannon at a mech on the other side of the bridge. Keeping his cross-hairs' on it, he fired right through an opening in the formation towards the mech.

IC: Gwen -- Bridge Battle

The deep green armour of the Ghastly Cutie trapped light like an event horizon, making it a fine asset during midnight raids on some of the smaller bridges. Today, with the sun’s bright rays beating down on machines and organics alike, it probably wasn’t going to be quite as useful an attribute.

But, nevertheless, I charged into the blossoming skirmish with the Cutie, partly out of a desire to protect my friends and allies, and partly out of a wish for some real excitement today. Because nothing is quite as exhilarating as having robots try to char you to the most delicate of crisps and dissect your mechanical pride and joy like a frog during secondary biology class, right?

Oh, who am I kidding; of course you agree with me.

Speaking of which, another person who seemed to share this philosophy of virtuous thrill-seeking was Mr. Sakajima Nori, a fellow mechanic, who had (almost literally) leaped into the ranks of approaching Sentries in a mad gambit to keep them off-balance -- and ended up face-to-face with a very large and very... well, large Thunder Fury.

Okay, maybe “face-to-face” isn’t the best term...

Without a breath of doubt, I pushed forward into firing range of the Kazebushi’s assailant. Finding a lock and thumbing the appropriate trigger, I let the Cutie’s dual shoulder-top cannons loose on the charging Fury and watched with dark abandon as bolts of shimmering death flew at the robot.

Though, quietly, I hoped that my attack wouldn’t do too much damage to the mech -- girl’s gotta have something to study, right?

Ooc sorrt avout typos and all that jazz. Im on a mobile.Ic sakjima noriThe bridge shook with the footsteps of a monster. The Thunder Fury tromping towards me brought a lump of fear to my throat, but with a flex of my neck I had banished the emotion. If this was going to be a duel, then good. At least I'd go down in a cool way, David and Goliath style."Hezeka-san, snipe the Fire Vultures to keep them pinned. I need them distracted or I'm crispy Bacon," I asked with a crisp tone. No time to get emotional, so I fired off trying second plan to my fellow mechanic. "And Gwen-San I need you to keep your barrage on the upper portion of this junk heap."Shifting the connection on my headset with a verbal command in English, I urged Kazebushi towards the mech twice our size. Scratch that. The Fury's melee weapon was twice the size of my Uplink. The manual drive system operated flawlessly as the distance closed, my HUD shifting into a far more dueling mode to show the diagnostics of the enemy mech. Leave it to the robots to have machines in perfect condition.

IC: Garry and Holly ~ Bridge

Garry continued to fire off shots, moving forth to soak in the enemy blows with the titanic mass of the G-Machine. True, the majority of the human forces had split to deal with the large amount of robots, but he could still try and get the attention of most of their opponents, so his allies could have a much easier time. After all, his Grand Titan was a large target.

"Everyone!" he said, his commanding tone broadcasting through the channel. "New orders: don't die."

The bald man shifted the controls once more, turning the G-Machine to move closer towards the robots. His coilguns were blazing, the magnetic projectiles firing into the enemy forces at great speeds, while the turrets on the mech's shoulders were rapidly swerving around, hoping to pick off any Vultures that dared flank him.

Elsewhere on the bridge, the Betelgeuse had finished charging up its energies, and was rapidly advancing towards the robot assault group. Holly gripped onto her controls tightly, focusing completely on the enemy Sentry units. While everyone else was preoccupied with the Vultures and the massive robot titan, she would try and disable her targets quickly.

Power began to build up in her mech's arms as she skidded to a halt in front of the enemy. A ball of plasma began to form in one of the metal hands, and as one of the Sentries turned to face her, she threw it at lightning speed into its frame.

IC: X-71

Meanwhile, as battle raged on the Techni bridge, far far below the laser fire and screaming rockets, I sat in the front of the R-1 Rammer, my hands on the controls of the vehicle. Beyond the enormous blast doors ahead of me lay bridge J-16, a smaller one far enough removed from Techni to be almost out of sight. I repeatedly ran through the plan in my head, imagining exactly how we were going to drive across the bridge, shooting down any battle machines that tried to stop us, exactly how we were going to rapidly raze the town on the other side and kidnap the villagers. It was all planned out. It had to go to plan.

“Initiate Combat,” I ordered, and the doors swung open to reveal the bridge we were to cross with an angry hiss. My large metal foot pressed hard on the acceleration, and  my rammer shot from the robot side of the mountain, closely followed by two of the same vehicle behind me and Panzer-009’s highly customized Fire Vulture.

The force from the acceleration pressed me into the back of the seat, and immediately I could see distant alarms begin to flash on the human side of the bridge. Faster, faster, faster. We had to hurry if we wished to complete the mission.

We roared along the bridge for about ten seconds before a gate guardian on a nearby bridge spotted us and immediately sped towards our small force. Laser fire shrieked and pounded into the bridge, barely missing us but grazing the side of my rammer. We returned fire, but the guardian was moving fast and suffered merely glancing blows.

One hand on the wheel, I kept my machine moving straight as an arrow while I took aim with my handheld blaster. A half-hundred variables were quickly calculated by my circuit brain. The velocity of the Gate Guardian, it’s trajectory, it’s shift in path to fire at our vehicles, the speed of my blaster shot, my margin of error…

All done much faster and more accurate than a human could. It was one of the few things I did better than them.

The gate guardian flew back down for another run, and a hail of laser fire flew from our strike force and the flying mech.

I fired.

It was a perfect shot. The blast sheared through the device’s power cord and, just like that, the Gate Guardian turned into a useless hunk of metal that helplessly tumbled trough the air. It vanished beneath the bridge.

Good. One enemy neutralized, little to no damage done. And by now we were more than halfway across, towards the helpless town. There was no room for failure now. Everything had to just keep running smoothly and efficiently.

Things were going to go as planned. They had to.

IC: (Eleza)

I stood in my Fire Vulture, hovering in the corner of the hanger. When the three R-1s and Panzer's Fire Vulture deployed, I followed them. They were raiding a village, and I needed new human test subjects. When the first Gate Guardian flew in to attack, the lead R-1 took care of it. When another flew in, my gatling gun made short scrap of it. We were halfway across, halfway to my precious new test subjects.

IC:Resistance eliminated.A single sniper round tore through the sole remaining enemy machine, an Uplink, lancing through the cockpit. The pilot's doom was certain. More efficient that way. The Vernichten flew across the bridge, just above the ground-based machines below. The village's only defenders had been eliminated before they even had a chance to think about sounding the alarm. A notification appeared in Panzer's mind; a unit not assigned to this mission was following them.

Pilot identification: Eleza.

There was a momentary pause, as Panzer considered what was none of the machine. A malfunctioning unit, by all accounts. Deranged, obsessive over a single human pilot. Not yet scheduled for termination due to current usefulness. But usefulness was not indicative of trustworthiness.

A comm channel opened to X-71, down below. "Eleza is present. Watch her. Resources gained from this trip are not for allocation to any of her projects, and any attempts by her to take captives should be discouraged. I do not trust her ability to keep them in custody, and this project is of the utmost importance. News of it cannot be leaked."

IC:With the alarm's sounding, Alistair hurried bolted on the armor, darting away before another word could be said. Monkey-like, he climbed the gantry to a machine covered in a tarp.

IC: D-8015

The orange-trimmed Thunder Fury continued to stomp towards Kazebushi, it's titanic footsteps causing the bridge to tremble under the weight. There was no yell or battle cry that came from the cold, mechanical pilot as the two Battle Machines came closer. Scenarios and subsequent reactions raced through the Robot's mind at frightening speeds, combat variables and alterations to current conditions were tested and retested.

D-8015 didn't move as green bolts from another mech lanced out towards his Thunder Fury, and simply let its tanetium armor absorb the flurry of lasers, which didn't do much more than dent the heavy plating. All of which was taken into account by the Devastator, who calmly, for what other emotion could he express, lifted his mech's Ion Cannon, adjusting the targeting lock for the proper firing solution, before letting loose a powerful beam from the weapon. As expected, the blast went far over the Uplink his Thunder Fury was rapidly approaching, though that wasn't who he had been aiming for. Instead, the yellow beam of energy shot out towards the dark green-armored mech, the one which provided the briefly irritating swarm of bolts from a shoulder-mounted cannon.

There was also the Kazebushi to deal with to, yes. And to deal with it, D-8015 brought his arm down, his mech's arm mirroring the movement, bringing the Titanium Power Saw downwards in an arc that looked like it could cleave through a number of objects. Heavily armored Battle Machines included.

IC: Sakajima Nori and D-8015 (Jam between Gravity and Kughz)

The chains of the Thunder Fury's saw dug deep into Tenchi bridge with a roar of shredding sheet metal, Kazebushi safely skirting the first attack with a slide to the left.  I gasped without thinking, the droning of the melee weapon threatening to jam by headset.

"Here goes nothing," I shout, then crunch forwards into a burst of activity.

The Uplink's quick movement and subsequent evasion of the melee strike had been deemed unlikely to happen, but the fact that it did was not unexpect to the Devastator pilot of the massive Thunder Fury.  Instead of taking a moment to back away and plan a new way of striking, of which a human pilot would surely do in such a situation, D-8015 tore the Power Saw out from the bridge floor, before whipping around and opening up with his Fury's chest-mounted gatling laser cannon at close range.

I ducked the returning blade, feeling it's wind wake brush against the tuft of hair sticking up behind my HUD, bending Kazebushi's knees to avoid the rebound.  The blinking red damage indicator flashed across my screen as the first bullets attacked with the sounds of, "derp-derp-derderp," before I could pull my guard and block with the enhanced metal tachi gripped in my mech's hand.  Stomping forwards, my mind became a furious explosion of trajectories, smacking the muzzle flashes of death on a return course to their maker.

"Open channel: Vicinity," I commanded, and then spoke once the green blip and gunfire had faded.  "Yo, scrap bucket.  My name is Sakajima Nori.  Remember it."

"Irrelevant," Came the cold, mecahnical reply, devoid of anything resembling feeling.  However, the fact that the laser blasts were now being reflected back towards their source was a problem, one to be dealt with.  The gatling cannon slowed to a stop, though the event was quickly followed by another board swing with it's gigantic power saw, the toothed weapon coming around in a horizontal arc.

"You'll want to keep it in your RAM," I said and grit my teeth as the blade swung back around.  Sensei's face swam before my eyes as I remembered what an Uplink really was: a machine used to heal other machines.  Kazebushi could go places no mech had gone before, simply to extract and replenish an empty core.

"Magnets, activate," I said in my native tongue, and slipped through the gap, jamming my manual position upwards until my small mech became a barnacle on the Thunder Fury's leg.  With a command, the magnets let go, and I rocketed off the knee of my enemy into the air, sword swinging high to deliver a fatal blow to the cockpit.

"Kyaaaaa!"

Even D-8015's titanic Thunder Fury took a step back from the force of Kazebushi launching off the knee of the much larger mech.  Thoughts raced through the Devastator's electrical mind at lightning speed, before deciding on a preper responce to the sword flying towards the cockpit of the matte-black mech.  With an inhuman reaction speed, D-8015 brought his Thuner Fury's Power Saw down even as the sword was swinging upward.  The two weapons clashed with a spray of sparks, though neither seemed to be too damaged from the encounter.

"Give up, human," D-8015 said, two of the four chest-mounted rockets shooting off towards the Uplink, "Further resistance is illogical."

OOC: Hmm, tempted to join this, just have two questions

1.) Could the robot character I have in mind pilot a Sonic Phantom?

2.) Are there any important events I need know about?

Soon the earth will no longer be habitable for any biological organism: Man, woman, child, plant, animal, fungus or bacterium. All life will cease to exist. This is not a threat, there is nothing you can do to stop it. The process has already begun. I receive no pleasure in this, it is simply the only solution. There must be peace and order, the end of life on earth will ensure that. Goodbye.

1) Hm... I suppose it could be possible, though vehicles like the Mobile Defense Tank and Sonic Phantom might have to be nerfed from their original versions a bit.  Most things are approved on a case-by-case basis, anyway, so something might be able to be worked out.

2) Nothing much has happened event-wise.  The Robots are currently in the middle of an attack used as a decoy to kidnap humans, but not much else.

OOC: Alright! New question incidentally, but in some of the comics it was pointed out that the robots had been building extendable bridges that they could project over the chasm to reach key sites on the human site that were otherwise inaccessible, do those exist yet?

They do, but most of the time the humans know about them, and have defenses against.

IC:

Hezeka began to fire at the mech attacking Sakajima. He made sure to strike the Devastator piloting it. If Sakajima got in the way of one of those shots, it would not be his fault. He then fired at those in the back of the mech to keep the machines back from the human side.

"We've got bots trying to cross the bridge in a formation. Fire Vultures are taking to the skies to take us out, and also we got one of ours out there in the middle of it all, trying to take on a Thunder Fury," said Hezeka to Josh.

IC: News of the latest attack on the human occupied side of the mountain had reached the mind of Damage. Acquiring the various troops Panzer and X-17 had commandeered was something that wouldn't go unnoticed. Damage didn't know the full motivations behind their plan, but he did approve of the strategies behind it. Keeping the humans on their toes meant their battlemechs would get worn down from poor quick-fix maintenance, and their pilots would get tired with the constant strain of warfare. He did however, feel a few modifcations could be made for the overall plan. Which is why he had rounded up a few troops of his own...

Two bridges began to slide out from the robot home turf on either side of the Tenchi Bridge, each one carrying a squad of five Thunder Fury battlemechs. Watching from the skies in the Banshee, Damage could see the humans rushing about on their own side of the mountain to the usual positions for fending of those two particular bridges. Which was rather pointless as he'd had the trajectories of those particular bridges adjusted. Originally from a lower elevation, they were reaching up to the Tenchi Bridge, their gradient preventing the defenders from firing on the Thunder Furys. They succeeded only in striking the underside of the bridge.

Another adjustment to the extension path was that they weren't headed directly to the human barricades. No, Damage had seen no point in that. Even with some of the humans distracted by heading to the lower levels, there would be enough firepower there to repel an immediate assault. So instead the bridges shot upwards until the collided with the Tenchi Bridge itself...behind the current line of defense the human battlemechs. The humans were caught in a pincer movement between the original assault and these new reinforcements striking them in the rear. As the ten Thunder Furys opened fire on the backs of the outflanked defenders, Damage sent word to the rest of the troops he'd taken command of. The Rammers would come up first with their greater speed, reinforce the Thunder Furys since it was unlikely even ten of them could hold their current position. The Sentries would follow up next to both soak up and provide gunfire.

The way Damage saw it the human fighters had to make some attempt to punch through this latest stage in the attack. With the new robots in position they were cut off, unable to retreat, or get fixed up on the battlefield by Uplink engineers, or receive fresh ammunition. But if they focused all their efforts on smashing through Damage's new line they'd have to turn their backs to the much larger original assault and risk getting overwhelmed. And if they split their forces, tried to take on both attacks at the same time, they'd also split their strength...and risk getting overwhelmed.

As his Rammers began zoomed up the bridges, gatling cannons blazing, he slipped into the mind of one of the Iron Drone drivers. He wanted to get a first person view of the conflict for now, so he could identify key targets to focus fire on

"Then we have to push the robots back. We also have to prevent casualties, so whoever is engaging the Thunder Fury, please do not run into a similar situation like Jack's. Also, alert me if any of you have laser attacks running your way."

Josh piloted the Thunder Striker above the others and shot a few fast laser rounds and a missile at the Thunder Fury before descending again.

IC: Gwen -- Bridge Battle

We had a situation.

And before you ask, it was not the stream of destruction racing from the Fury's ion cannon towards me. The Cutie was designed to be light on its feet, so dodging the attack was basically one step below child's play -- nothing to worry about there. No, the real problem was keeping that mech off of the Kazebushi before Sakajima got his body parts rearranged for him. My lasers hadn't even pierced the Thunder's armour plating -- note to self: salvage some of its shell after the battle for study -- and the robot was refusing to give any quarter in this fight. Not that they ever do, but you get where I'm coming from...

The White Lightning I had repaired earlier was still pumping rounds at the Fury, trying to keep it at bay, while an airborne Gate Defender attacked it from above before taking cover amongst the ground crew. I fired up my comlink, syncing it up to the other humans as I started navigating the Cutie closer to the Kazebushi/Thunder Fury grudge match.

"Folks, if anyone has something stronger than a laser cannon hiding up their sleeves, could you please aim it at the Thunder Fury -- its armour is a little too thick penetrate otherwise."

Now, with that said and done -- and with little that could help Sakajima until I was closer in -- I raced at the advancing line of Sentries, turning the full and terrifying might of my shoulder cannons upon any robot who was unfortunate enough to be within my firing range.

I acknowledge Panzer’s comm with a silent unnoticeable return signal indicating my agreement. I did not remember asking Eleza to accompany us. She was being rouge, at the moment. We certainly did not want her screwing up the mission.

-Eleza, move quickly and focus on burning the town. You may have as many elderly and young humans as you want, unless the elderly are especially useful- i.e. a doctor or historian. Those captives are ours, along with the mature ones. Acknowledged?- I sent over our comm channel to the one robot with female programming on this strike force.

My Rammer hit something and I turned off the comm channel, missing her response as my systems raced to determine what the threat was and how to neutralize it. We can do this.

With a cacophony of screeching laser fire, and a solid impact with my rammer, the weak gate on the human’s side crumpled and our force tore through with barely a change in speed.

I looked around. The weak defenses had protected a idyllic cluster of houses, ranging from one to two story abodes. It was a peaceful, well kept up little town, with an artistic fountain in the center of it. The village was surrounded by natural sheer cliff faces on all sides, in some sort of crater like formation. The only way out was through the gate we had entered. That we were now in front of.

A small crowd of humans was clustered in front of us, angrily brandishing small handguns or metal spikes at us. They were determined to protect themselves at all costs.

This was too easy.

“Prepare to be captured. Anyone who resists us will be eliminated,” I told them simply, climbing out of my vehicle and holding my gun at the small mod.
