OOC: Ok, let's move!

IC (Stralix)

Stralix gave assistance in lashing together a simple stretcher across the two Ussal's backs, and they were soon able to hoist Torvoth's dead weight onto it.

With wounds patched and spoils claimed, the group moved forward once more. The gleam of lightstones searched the tunnel ahead of them for objects or beings, friend or foe.

IC: Lux / Dark Walk

"Hey, uh, would one you guys be able to help me up? Please?"

IC: Dalrin / Dark Walk

I gave Mr. Kirsug a polite nod. "Much obliged, sir."

Then, making sure all of my gear was nice and secure, I joined the march deeper in the tunnel.

IC: Day

Day bent down and extended his hand, firmly grasping Lux's as he pulled him up.

"Think you can walk?"

IC: Rungui

Rungui looked around one last time, making sure no one else needed medical attention before he'd begin to walk. Torvoth was taken care of, the Po-Matoran had his friends helping him and everyone else seemed fine, so he packed up his gear and marched on.

"Oh, I'll be fine," I said, even though I was wincing slightly as the muscles in my right thigh tense around their stitches (here's hoping nobody notices, knock on wood). I found myself leaning on my newly-snatched Rahkstaff, forcing a grin for Day and Mel. "Takes a lot more than a spear to the leg to keep me down, matey."

IC: Dalrin

"Y'know, Rungui," I said, sidling up next to the Vortixx, "I don't know 'bout you, but I've been thinking: What if we just had all the civilians here head back to the surface while us soldiers kept on going through the Walk? Probably be safer for them, don't you think?"

IC: Melna (Darkwalk)

"Well, if you say so" Melna replied, adjusting her grip on her own weapon so it served as a cane.

A little color was beginning to return to her cheeks, and she nodded with a hint of self-assurance as Day and Lux both got back on the way ahead. Colx's words gave her some comfort still, but even more so she felt safer knowing she wasn't down here all alone.

"What a horrible thought"

IC: Day

Day nodded, though his chest was sore with pain. The Rahkshi had sent him flying with a single kick, and it hurt a lot more than he cared to admit.

IC: Rungui

"Send all the civies back to Po and let the pros handle it? Makes sense." Rungui said, eyes glued to the front. "I didn't have to treat a single soldier here, but the rest got it bad. I'd feel better with less risk of any more patients on my hands."

The paperwork was left where it was. Naona had already begun to stride out of the door.

"Dehkaz. We're moving. Now."

IC: Dehkaz

Dehkaz didn't say a word in reply as he stepped out the door, there was no reason to.  They both knew the implications of what they just found, and they both knew what to do about it. The two of them set out, almost identical expressions on their faces.

I nodded, slowly, nowhere close to believing either of them but too tired to try and pry the truth out of them either. Instead, I just kept walking into the tunnel, one hand reaching for my lightsto--

Ah.

"Melna, do you still have my lightstone?"

---

IC: Dalrin

"Preachin' to the choir, mate," I said, nodding. I glanced back at Torvoth, his back broken, possibly irreversibly, still lying on that crude stretcher carried by two crabs who could have been carrying more supplies for the trek. I felt my gut twist in anger at the situation. I hadn't asked for all of these civilians to follow us, to get injured, to go missing, to die in a battle that they had no place in--

I grabbed a knife and tossed it into the air, snatching it by the hilt as it fell.

Breathe.

"You think we oughta go and tell a commander about this idea?" I asked. "They'd listen, wouldn't they?"

"I think we should. This isn't a job for ordinary people, much less an injured bunch." Rungui said, stealing a quick peek at Torvoth. If the Dark Walk had already stolen his legs, he figured it would steal his life next. Same went for the guy with a hole in his leg.

I tossed my knife again, watching it twirl through the air and back into my waiting palm. My eyes flicked ahead into the darkness, searching for a sign of anything to come, but I was only greeted by more darkness. It was strange; I'd spent my whole life underground, but being down in here, in these tunnels ... I didn't feel safe.

I felt like I was being watched.

That does it, I thought, glancing over to see the rest of the Ussalry marching. I have to get these people to safety.

I cocked my head right and shot Rungui a grin, then broke away from the Vortixx to sidle over by Mr. Kirsug.

"Sir," I said, watching the old soldier's face for a reaction, any reaction. "Permission to speak?"

IC: Torvoth

The Vortixx propped himself up on an elbow with a grimace atop his makeshift stretcher. "Uh, all of you high-and-mighty Sentinels - I think you guys are not as quiet as you're trying to be. While we are wounded, us... us... civilians, to use your ugly word, all of us can still hear you guys babbling like frightened children. I've got two reasons why you should not ditch us... civilian peasantry." He paused to spit out a glob of dark fluid. "Ahem. Numero Uno. Most of us are not just civilians. You've got Toa, criminal-scumbags like yours truly, people who are not formally enlisted in any military organization, but could probably go toe to toe with most of you so-called soldiers. Numero Dos. Given the scale of danger that we've faced almost from the get-go, you're going to need every bit of help you can get." With these words, he slowly rolled over and turned towards the rest of the group. "Hey, all of you civilian peasants - what do you think?"

IC:

Vail's eyes burned dangerously bright, but he held his tongue. The sandstorm would likely give them cover in their escape from the Koro, but the severity of the weather concerned him. Travel would be arduous and impossibly slow, not to mention an assured goodbye to his newly polished armor.

Times like these made him wish Mama Ussal hadn't snatched away his cloak. He sighed.

"I can't help but wonder what your intentions are, sir. You seem genuinely concerned for our well being, while most would prefer to keep a wary eye on us from a distance." he shifted his shoulders slightly to re-adjust his posture. "With whom are you affiliated with? Do you intend to stop us in our escapade?"

The Toa of Fire prepared himself for another slap from Voulge. In truth, he loathed the newcomer's very demeanor. But that fact aside, one couldn't be too careful when confronting shady strangers who came offering advice on a silver platter.

IC (Tupua):

"Stop you? Hardly." the dark Toa replied.

"As for my allegiance, suffice it to say that I am a Toa in name only. I gave up the title a long time ago. Let's leave it at that. My interference was merely personal curiosity, though I came here for a different reason."

He paused, head turning towards the door with. He listened for a few seconds, then turned back to the other vigilantes.

"Storm's passed. You want to get moving, I suggest you do it now."

OOC: Hey VF, if you want Tupua to tag along, by all means. Vox and I agreed to timeskip ahead in their mission, but Voulge is busy fighting guards nearby right now if you want to join him.

IC: Agravail (Tiro Canyon)

Candlelight cast ghostly shadows around the cavern. A sole voice echoed off the walls and bounced down the hewn tunnels that twisted their way towards the light of day. It was a sinister voice, a voice that knew no remorse.

"Pitiful, truly pitiful. I almost wish I hadn't killed her, so she could be here to watch you bleed."

Vail's armored form twitched on the stone floor. He tried to push himself up, but the spokesman planted a foot firmly on the back of his neck and forced his head back down to the unforgiving ground. The Toa of Fire choked, then grinned through bloodied teeth.

"Sorry to disappoint you, Revan. You may have done her in, but you can't kill me." his laughter was quickly drowned out by a fit of coughing.

"Oh really? You think you're invincible?" The Vortixx kicked him in the ribs. Pain rippled throughout Vail's body, a muted crunch resonating as one of his ribs cracked.

"Mmmm, what a lovely sound." Revan said, chuckling at his own handywork. He held Persephone easily in one hand, his sinewy form gleaming in the flickering light.

The room was dim and dismal, a large bed taking up almost half of it. Next to it sat a desk, with an oblong mirror situated precariously above it. A Toa of Crystal was chained to the back wall. She sat with her head bowed, empty eyes staring at the cracked floor solemnly.

Revan Lockmire smiled and turned to her. "Dear, would you be so kind as to replenish my energies? I wish to be at full strength before I send this Karzahni spawn back home."

In response, she tilted her head down and forced her body further into the fetal position.

His smirk faded into a grimace as he moved away from the bloodied Ta-Toa. From his place on the floor, Vail watched as the Vortixx approached her in the mirror. The glass had been fractured, the image distorted, and shards of its reflective material were scattered haphazardly all around him.

"Stand up." Revan commanded.

She obeyed, whimpering slightly as she rose slowly to her feet. Her eyes followed suit just as Revan's hand enclosed around her windpipe. He pushed her forcefully against the wall.

"Do as I ask, #####."

Her mask glowed, illuminating the tears that streamed steadily down its surface. She placed a hand over the gash on his chest. After a few moments, only streaks of dried blood remained of the wound.

Vail had managed to push himself onto his knees. He winced painfully and coughed up crimson fluid onto the mottled rock. The Vortixx turned just in time to see him rise to his full height, mouth dripping.

"Put her down, Lockmire." Vail growled.

Revan cackled. "Oh, I'm sorry. I haven't beaten the last slivers of dignity out of you just yet? Very well."

He threw the woman aside like an unwanted toy. "I thought you had enough sense to keep your mouth shut, you piece of ."

He charged, sword swinging in a wide arc towards the Toa of Fire's head. Vail ducked just in time, triggering his Pakari as Revan's attack passed harmlessly above him.

"About time you shut yours." Vail replied cooly.

He ignored the pain that screamed through his battered limbs and wrapped his powerful arms around the Vortixx's neck.

"I should've done this a long time ago."

He twisted Revan's head quickly, a sickening series of pops resounding as the tyrant's neck snapped. The Toa of Crystal screamed from her place in the corner. Vail allowed the corpse to slide out of his grip and fall to the floor in a heap.

He stooped to retrieve his claymore, but agony got the best of him, and he stumbled forward from the overwhelming strain. With his last reserves of energy, he moved towards the frightened prisoner. She backed away, eyes wide with fear.

"Don't be afraid, I'm not going to hurt you." Vail assured her softly. He grasped the chains that fastened her wrists to the wall and pulled them apart as if they were made of hot butter.

His broken features contrasted distubingly with the smile that spread slowly across his face.

"Free." he stated happily as he collapsed into unconsciousness.

Oh come on matey, that's just not fair.

I had just opened my mouth to speak when the Vortixx started yapping about civilian peasantry and high-and-mighty Sentinels, and any number of other things that I'd never talked about nor that could be inferred from the brief conversation I'd had with Rungui without some major jumps in logic. Almost made me regret advocating that he be brought with us, and definitely made me regret volunteering Odobo for the job of carrying him. I could feel my fists clenching as I listened to him shoot his mouth off, and the only thing keeping my jaw from following suit was the fact that I still needed to use it.

"What I was about to say, sir, and what our wounded friend has been warping for his advantage, is that the safety of the civilians is worrying on this mission," I said, shooting Torvoth a death glare, but dropping my voice to a whisper. "All of the injuries that this group has sustained so far have been non-military personnel. If I might be honest, sir, I'm concerned about bringing the civilians any deeper into the tunnel, and would be ready to advocate escorting them back to the surface before continuing this mission as a purely military unit."

The handsome guard with the pink eyes looked around at the other accumulated Sentinels and blew air out of the corner of his mouth. A bola twirled around each of his index fingers. "Ever since we all came together, we've gone by mostly nicknames. Real name's Ankhen, but everyone calls me Junk."

"Junk?" asked Korru.

"Conjunctivitis," Tar Lee explained with a nervous smile. "For the pink eyes."

The guard shot the little Matoran a look and he squeaked, sinking back towards the stone wall as though he'd been hit in the stomach with one of the bolas. Slowly, his distinctive gaze fell back to Tera and he sighed. There was the grit of age beyond his years in the raspy sound.

"I'm a captain," he explained. "Only officer we know of that's still alive down here. The best looking, too, before you came along." There was something rawly amused about the way he smiled at Tera. "...Ma'am."

The ground rumbled underneath the feet of the volunteer effort. The argument halted for a few seconds, and then continued nervously - until the ground shook again. Gyn Kirsug's hand tightened around his weapon; Leli took a deep breath and smiled breezily at Lux Saran.

Whatever they decided to do with the civilians, they had better decide soon - because the second quake was more forceful than the first, and the third was more forceful still.

Struggling to regain his balance after the latest quake, the quiet matoran finally spoke.

"I do not know about my compatriots," he said with steel, "But I will not retreat. I am here on a religious duty, and I shall not quail. Although a civilian, Mata-Nui has given me this purpose, and I will not fail him."

I tried to match the soldier's smile, but my brain was a little preoccupied with the fact that we were being caught underground during a freak earthquake (and de-emphasis on freak, because frankly, so much as happened today that I wouldn't be surprised if these tremors were a precursor to Mata Nui coming out and giving us a tap dance down here) for shooting back grins with pretty ladies.

I never thought I'd say that, but then, I never thought I'd kill a Rahkshi either.

This is turning into one Karz of a day.

Between freak outs, I managed to plant my newfound staff into the ground to try and steady myself. The wound in my right thigh was burning as my muscles strained to keep myself upright, but between it and my twisted left leg, there wasn't much I could do except fall back on my keister.

Torvoth bolted upright from his stretcher, and immediately regretted it immensely, as pain shot up his injured spine. However, he was able to gather his wits enough to cry, "Cave-in! Uh, actually, possible cave-in, but still, panic!" The murderous glares of his compatriots shut him up. But only briefly. He continued, "Anyone with elemental powers, build a barrier. Any kind of barrier above us. From what I've heard, the only way people survive mine collapses and the like are by being under something that is stronger than whatever is falling on top of it!"

IC: Melna (Darkwalk)

"Yeah, you... you're not all alone in that."

Melna shuffled closer to the Po-Matoran, standing over him and prepared to catch him should he fall over. If a cave-in indeed was what was coming, she was actually marginally more prepared than him. She rolled her shoulders like she'd usually done to loosen up before a game, and breathed.

Relaaax

Should the ceiling collapse in on them, Melna could hopefully catch some of the larger blocks of debris and get them out of the way. And if they proved too heavy... well, she could only hope her pressure resistance would help...

"Captain of what division?" came the Lesterin's question as he fingered with the handle on his broadsword.

This was quickly turning into more of a riddle than a mystery, a riddle from which Korru was increasingly getting feeling he wouldn't like the answer very much.

IC: Farzan (Farzan's Workshop)

"Well, clearly they can." I retorted with a a wink.

"Still..." I said and leaned across the counter a little.

IC: Voulge

Voulge casted a worried glance over his shoulders, at the direction in which Vail had headed. He had stayed here, in this section of tunnel to deal with the guards that were stationed, while Vail had went ahead to hopefully find the man they came for.

He turned his gaze back on those who he was fighting. There had been four originally, but it is quite amazing how quickly one bleeds out when an artery is cut open in the neck, though the cries of anguish was a disappointing side effect. Two vortixx and a lesterin responded to the sound, all three toting various firearms and bladed weapons.

"Oh, you guys are going to put up a fight aren't you?" he asked in a tired tone, just as the three opened fire on him with what appeared to be rifles. Voulge was no gun expert nor did he care to be, all he knew was that the one bullet that managed to graze his neck as he dodged hurt like a sonuva kane-ra.

He had lost track of tupua during their travels, though he suspected the toa was just waiting for the moment to be of assistance... yeah that had to be it. While the three reloaded he quickly dashed towards the lesterin, though at the last moment he turned it into a slide. As he slid past the lesterin, he quickly got back to a crouching position and sent a dagger plunging into the thigh of the lesterin. Just then the vorixx decided to take aim, and just as they fired at Voulge he yanked on the dagger planted firmly in the lesterin's thigh, causing it to stumble into the path of the bullets.

Wonder if I could get away with carrying a body around, claiming it as a 'toa tool'

OOC: Well hopefully this makes sense, and feel free to have tupua get into the fray VF, since apparently he joined Vail and voulge

IC:

Vail lay still and broken on the cold floor. The Toa of Crystal sat there, tears brimming her horror-filled orbs.

At long last, she was free.

She mouthed the foreign word tentatively, and it tasted bitter against her tongue. Time had roughened the edges of her consciousness, and scrambled her sanity into a mixed jumble of chaotic confusion. She had endured the darkness for so long, that returning to the light seemed like a sick joke.

She continued to cry, the unfathomable weight she carried upon her shoulders still painfully existent. Now it had only shifted into something more obscured and unreadable. Right, wrong, none of it made any sense to her anymore. The wounds remained, inside and out.

Her chest heaved as she took a moment to catch her breath. Distant fighting echoed from down the corridor. It seemed as if this mad Toa of Fire hadn't come alone after all.

She knealt down next to him. The severed chains on her wrists clattered against the stone as she placed a delicate palm on his bloodied forehead. His heartlight still glowed faintly.

Revan had done this to him. The man who had wronged her for so long had wronged another. She grimaced and her mask hummed to life once more. She wasn't intent on allowing her savior to die by his hand. He deserved a second chance, for the Vortixx had finally been put to an end.

Vail's open wounds closed one by one. His fingers twitched as she placed her other hand on his torso and began repairing the cracked ribcage that lay beneath his crimson armor.

Little by little, the monster's ill fate was lifted. Death had not claimed him yet.

The world had yet to rid itself of Agravail Endemir.

OOC: Thanks for letting Tupua tag along, guys ^^ Sorry the post is a little short but it is way past 1am here.

IC (Tupua):

Voulge's assumption had been right. The dark Toa had followed the two out into Po-Wahi's wilderness, but had hung back once they had reached their destination. For one, Vail still didn't have much smypathy for him and he did not wish to cause more conflict if he could help it. Especially not since his newfound companions had a task of their own to accomplish out here and they would do it their way. He was just lending a hand.

Using the fight as a distraction, the Aitua snuck up behind the two Vortixx taking aim at Volgue with his Scythe drawn. He rose to his full height behind them, a cloaked shadow, swinging the weapon in aimed to incapacitate or kill them both. Either result was acceptable.

IC: Voulge

Admittingly the look of shock was priceless.... well until it was replaced with a look of agony. Of the two vortixx, the scythe had only managed to slice through the head of the first one. The second one managed to duck under the swing and attempted to turn around and fire it's weapon point-blank range, with Tupua the intended target. However it never had the chance as Voulge rushed from behind his meat shield. He attempted to shove his dagger through the back of the Vortixx, close to it's heartlight. If all went well it should be dead, or at least shocked enough that it forgot about it's attack. Was really anyone's guess.

Vail's eyes flickered into existence once more. The pain had subsided, almost completely. In fact, the most noticable feeling of discomfort came from his dry throat. He swallowed several times in an attempt to suppress the increasing sensation, but nearly choked on his own saliva. A quick sip from a simple canteen obviously wouldn't do.

He became abruptly aware of the warm hand that was pressed against his chest. A delicate finger began to trace the crack on his heartlight, the one he'd received from the hammer blow back at the warehouse.

He sat up sharply. The Toa of Crystal he had freed was stooped over him. She removed her hand, and swiftly averted her gaze elsewhere.

The Toa of Fire stared at her for some time.

"You healed me..." he stated, having put two and two together. The words floated out into the empty room. "Why?"

She pointed to Revan's still form.

Vail stood up hesitantly, awaiting a further response. When none came, he regarded her questioningly.

She pointed to her mouth, then shook her head.

"Oh..." The Vortixx had cut out her toungue. Of course. Vail's fiery orbs revealed something that almost resembled pity.

"Thank you." he said. If it hadn't been for her, he'd likely be dead by now.

The sounds of combat snapped the Toa of Fire back to reality. Voulge was likely in need of his assistance. He stooped to retrieve Persephone for the second time, and soon came to realize that his insides hadn't been fully healed. He leaned against the blade, the lingering wound now painfully evident.

"You missed a spot." he said jokingly. He grinned. "Don't worry though, I'm a tough one."

He shouldered the claymore, and began moving towards the daylight.

"Wait here. Once the noise subsides, consider the coast clear."

IC (Tupua):

The first of the two Vortixx fell, limbs twitching as the final signals from the now quite disconnected brain made their way down to the extremeties. The other had been fast enough to move out of the way of the strike though and whirled around. The dark Toa saw his opponent raise her gun, but then Voulge appeared behind her and the next moment a blade pierced through the center of her torso.

She gasped, glancing down at the blade protruding from her body. Then, in a final gesture of defiance, she raised her gun and fired. Tupua was fast, but he wore no Kakama, and so the bullet struck his side, winding him. He stood bent over, grimacing as Voulge let the dead Vortixx slip from his grasp.

"Haven't had that happen in a while." he commented through gritted teeth.

IC: Voulge

With the targets taken care of, he summoned the knife out of existance, returning it to the elemental energy it had been formed from. He looked down at tupua and noticed he was wounded. He could not tell if the bullet was actually logged in there, or if it had exited.

"No matter how many lives you take, how many fights you win, you should never place yourself above injury. When you begin to think yourself invincible is when you make the most mistakes."

Kicking the corpse to the side, he approached Tupua and concentrated on the wound.

"Good news, the bullet is metallic in nature, meaning I could remove it."

IC:

The shadows of the tunnel faded as Vail hobbled out into the open. It appeared as if Tupua had decided to help Voulge take care of the guardsmen. The two stood with their backs to him, corpses littering the ground all around their feet. He heard Voulge offer to remove a bullet that had found its way into the dark Toa's abdomen.

A slight smirk tugged at the corners of Vail's mouth.

If he can take a hit for the team, he might not be as bad as I thought.

Vail naturally had a light step, so his presence had likely gone undetected thus far. He decided to change that fact.

"Well," he said, making himself known. "I'd say a job well done." He chuckled airily. "Besides a few scrapes and bruises, looks like we all made it."

He was still leaning against the canyon wall, unable to stand upright without support. His free had clutched his his aching side. He could only hope whatever hadn't been healed would do so on it's own.

IC (Stralix)

Stralix wasn't given to speeches or leadership, but this constant delaying and prattling was liable to get the entire group killed—to say nothing of them actually answering the lost Sentinels' distress call in time. His patience (particularly with Torvoth's apparent death wish) had run out.

"EVERYONE!" he growled, suddenly looking a lot more Skakdi. "Would you mind remembering that we're on a rescue mission here?!"

He gestured with his flamethrower at the walls and ceiling of the tunnel, from which dust and small rocks were still falling after the growing tremors.

"At this point the safest bet for ALL of us—civilian or not—is to stay together. We need to keep pressing forward as quickly as we can if we're going to save those Sentinels. Now MOVE IT!"
