  1. Is this from that comedy that was on the front page a while ago? I just found it on Google when I googled Toa Kaita
  2. Toa Kaita Akamai and Wairuha
  3. This is some truly excellent work you did here. I don't know whether the problem with the original pieces was that they weren't sturdy enough or that the material used was defficient (probably a combination of both). I had problems with cracking parts too - it made me completely lose my trust into plastics. Shapeways already offers stainless steel as 3D printing material, but it is insanely expensive, though with technology advancing the price should drop in the upcomming years and once it drops I might be interested in printing original looking LEGO pieces (although it remains to be seen if socket parts aren't too strong to be assembled by human hands if printed from stainless steel). I plan on getting into 3D design in the near future so your work definitely serves me as an inspiration
  4. Question, how do you pronounce Dabbabbayadha?
  5. Actually this is a very good point. This just shows the brilliant and elaborate nature of the Mata Nui island saga of Generation 1 - I like when the lines between good and evil blur together, it makes the story more interesting. Too bad that in the subsequent 3 sagas they didn't make use of this kind of creative complexity as well. Good thing is that with Generation 2 we got this approach back - Makuta was never truly evil, he was only corrupted by the Mask of ultimate power. Back in his days as the mask maker he was just an I. R. Baboon type of individual. Back then Makuta wasn't more evil that a girl friend reading text messages on your phone
  6. Do you WANT to see Bionicle come back again? Definitely As far as fictional franchises are concerned there is nothing I would want more than Bionicle to return Is a third generation of Bionicle bound to happen? Unlikely Generation 2 got the go ahead because of the tremendous success of Generation 1. The problem is that when LEGO will inevitably consider Generation 3, they won't look at Generation 1 anymore - they will look at Generation 2 because Generation 2 is the most recent study on the popularity of Bionicle. And since Generation 2 was a huge financial unsuccess (I really can't think of any other reason why they would cancel it so abruptly, quickly and without any preparations or ending save from the last two Journey to One episodes - seriously, no Makuta and Mask of Ultimate Power set?! ), I think it is highly ulikely that they would give Generation 3 a go ahead It hurts me greatly to say this but I think that official Bionicle is dead That's why I think we should focus on fan Bionicle now more than ever, because that is all that remains
  7. Count me in. Currently I am researching the possibilities of creating a large scale multiplayer coop/survival mod with the Doom engine. So far I don't have enough skills in programming or 3D modelling to attempt to do some work in a modern engine, however the Doom engine works wonders with modern ports like Zandronum and to this day good old Doom has the best coop/survival experience of any game ever made. It would be something large scale, focused on many players meeting at an evening and playing a sadistically hard level with truly gargantuan battles - considering it is an FPS (the use of 3D fashioned sprites instead of 3D models means that you can get an insane amount of enemies in one single level). The story would be set during the time after Makuta was banished into the Shadow realm by the Toa Uniters. You would play as Ekimu, who would once again assume his powered up form and travel into the Shadow realm to liberate the doomed Capital City from the tyranny of his brother Makuta. Now I would like to note again that this is still in the form of initial research, so nothing is guaranteed, however I definitely would like to get this project going if I can get people to make me some good photographs of the Generation 2 sets from different angles for the sprites
  8. 30th July 2016 - BZP - the announcement of the cancellation of Bionicle: Jokes aside, this was pretty much my reaction when I heard the horrible news on that sad day
  9. My favorite final battle is the 2001 battle of the Toa Mata with Makuta Teridax, a close second being the final battle of 2016, where the Toa Uniters fought Makuta
  10. I was always very positive about Bionicle. I strongly disagreed with the doomsayers and I always said how I love both generations of Bionicle, but after the collapse of Generation 2 on the 30th of July I am very worried. I think that the chances of official Bionicle surviving are very slim. Generation 2 got the go ahead because of how incredibly successful Generation 1 has been in its early and middle years. The problem is that once they will consider Generation 3 (and I think it is inevitable that they will) they won't look at Generation 1 anymore - they will look at Generation 2 because that is the most recent study on the popularity of Bionicle. And since Generation 2 was apparently financially very unsuccessful (I really can't think of any other reason why it would be cancelled this spontaneously and without the slightest preparation) I can't imagine them giving Generation 3 a chance Now the only possible scenarios where I can imagine a chance for Generation 3 are if it wasn't Bionicle that failed but rather constraction itself. If the upcoming years would prove it (for example if the Rogue One Star Wars constraction did badly too) then perhaps Bionicle would one day have a chance (though I am not holding my breath). The other scenario were Bionicle might one day come back is if LEGO realizes what a horrible job of marketing they did with Generation 2. The media the team made were very good - I liked the games, Journey to One and the online episodes very much, so the problem wasn't that they made bad media, the problem was that they made so few of those media. In the first 3 years of Generation 1 there was so much more marketing despite the fact that the internet was still in its infancy. Other LEGO brands too got far more marketing than Generation 2. The absence of a story driven game hurt Bionicle the most (seriously, how hard would it be to make a story game similar to MNOLG with today's technology). Which brings us to a very sad trend that has seemingly manifested itself - Bionicle is iconic, original and interesting, yet got minimal marketing - the result? - it was a huge unsuccess. Ninjago is uniconic, unoriginal and boring, yet it got absolutely huge marketing - the result? - it is a huge success. I mean this trend, if indeed true and not affected by other, possibly unseen factors, seems to indicate that you could make a potato a bestseller if you gave it enough marketing (LOL, just imagine a line called LEGO Potatoes ). But I would like to note that despite these two possible Bionicle savers that I mentioned (constraction being what failed or LEGO accepting the harsh truth that they completely failed at marketing) I really think that official Bionicle has minimal chances for surviving. The unsuccess of Generation 2 is simply too much of a catastrophe, a too strong hit to the franchise. I think that LEGO would most probably not want to take the risk after what happened to Generation 2 and would probably just try to create a new original line - or, if it was constraction that failed, it would not make another constraction exclusive line and would keep constraction limited to a secondary presence in primarily system lines, like Star Wars. The fact that to this day LEGO didn't even announce that they plan on replacing Bionicle with another theme seems to indicate that this problem might go all the way to the very foundations of constraction, however it is impossibru to say anything for certain since there is so much we don't know. This tapping in the dark is why I am reluctant to say conclusively that I think official Bionicle will survive or that official Bionicle won't survive, however I do think that the situation of our beloved brand is very serious, disturbing, pessimistic and it worries me greatly
  11. Definitely 2001 - that was the year when the Polynesian influences have been the strongest and it was also the year of MNOLG and the best promo CDs (oh how I wish it would have also been the year of LOMN ). In my opinion combining advanced robots with Polynesian folklore has been the single most brilliant idea in the history of fiction. No other franchise and no Bionicle that came after 2003 can rival the genius of the Mata Nui saga of Generation 1 (2001, 2002, 2003) and 2001 was its strongest year. The Mata Nui saga was a very rich world. Never again did Bionicle had so much world building. I always got the feeling that there were more mysteries waiting there, more stories to discover, more lore to be learned. All these things together made me feel truly at home on the island of Mata Nui
  12. Slovak stores are still full of all the 2016 sets, including Quake Beast
  13. The negative feedback isn't for you, the box looks magnificent and I thank you very much for posting it. It is greatly appreciated The negative feedback is for LEGO because they cancelled Bionicle and broke our hearts. We all would so love to see something like this in stores
  14. Oh how I wish we would get Bionicle 2017
  15. Bricklink sells original parts - which in this case is a big problem because the parts I would be looking for are long retired, meaning that the parts I would find on Bricklink would be of similar age as the destroyed ones I owned. I never exposed my Bionicles to rough play when I was a kid so the fractures on them were caused by time. If I bought the parts on Bricklink it would probably be just a question of a very short time until those would start fracturing too. That is the dark destiny of retired pieces - they all eventually slowly start fracturing until none is left. The ABS plastic they were made from just isn't up to the task of surviving long years The thing I like most about my new collection is that steel is vastly superior to ABS. It is not only far stronger, but also can last for millenia if kept in dry conditions. It will be standing strong long after the last original retired piece of Generation 1 Bionicle has been reduced to dust
  16. Well, I have a long history of Bionicle dreams. At first it were just pleasant dreams when I dreamed that I found an overlooked toy store where they had all kinds of old retired sets and I was able to buy the sets I didn't get to buy back when they had their run in the stores in real life. However later my Bionicle dreams started to take a darker turn. I began dreaming about various ways through which I lost my collection and at morning I woke up I was very relieved to find that my collection was still there. But in 2014 there came a day when these nightmares were eventually fullfilled - the day I discovered major cracks on my original Bionicles, which resulted in me "burrying" my entire collection. On that day, Bionicle became a taboo for me - a taboo that was lifted a few days before the Christmas of 2014, when I rebuilt my Bionicle collection with steel parts I bought in our local iron store. This rebuilding effort was in no way easy, I have researched many different approaches ranging from letting experts cut them from steel. 3D print them or forge them up to me myself forging them in my garage or creating them via commerically available resins - each of those approaches was thwarted by either cost, difficulty, or low quality of the end product. Then I saw those small parts in the iron store, about a week before Christmas and immediately I knew that Bionicle was just reinstated. Now I no longer have any Bionicle dreams - I don't have the pleasant ones, because I know I can construct myself any Bionicle set I want from those readily available steel parts, nor the nightmares, because I have found a way to rebuild my collection - and not only once, but I could potentially rebuild it over and over a million times, since those steel parts for holding together railings and regals will always be on store (not that I would need it since steel mixed with zinc, when kept away from rain, can last for millenia) Btw, here are some photos of my rebuilt Bionicles: For more photos, please visit this old BZP thread http://www.bzpower.com/board/topic/19871-broken-pieces-broken-pieces-everywhere/
  17. Get a grouchy little white cat as well and see how long it takes him to make friends with it. Also, on-topic, look at this robot snake and tell me it's not something a Makuta would create... That looks like metus when he was a snake
  18. To this day I am convinced that there were no conclusive indications of an imminent doom - everything posted by the doomsayers was inconclusive and could have been interpreted in many different ways other than an imminent doom. I hold the opinion that this higher standard for accepting the conclusivity of posted reports - required by me and others who countered the doomsayers - is a far more valid approach than the approach of the doomsayers. Now the problem is that a higher standard and more valid approach doesn't guarantee a successful prediction - it only increases its chance. However everything that isn't guaranteed can fail and in this case it failed. Despite that I certainly won't lower my standards for considering rumors to be conclusive indications because of this - As I said in a previous thread the day Bionicle Generation 2 collapsed - If a weather forecast fails to predict the weather next week, but a common man who had a quarter liter of gin on Friday evening manages to predict it accurately, does it mean that meteorologists should trhow away their climate models and satellite imagery and instead just drink a lot of gin day after day? One small unsuccess doesn't topple well serving methodology and one small success doesn't shoot randomness to the stars. That is the reason why I don't feel ashamed and why I proudly hold to the view I had during those discussions.
  19. There is no need to apologize, you did nothing wrong. I always respected you but after reading this post I respect you even far more. It takes courage to say something like this and for that you have my deepest respect You never were offensive and as long as somebody doesn't get offensive, every opinion should be allowed - otherwise BZP would look like Turkey. Some were annoyed by your posts, some liked them. Out of those that liked them some considered you a classic entertainer, while others agreed with you. But you have only said what you felt was true at that time, so there really is nothing to forgive you. Again I will say that this post of yours has vastly increased my respect for you and I hope that you will be with us on this forum for the years to come, because after the official cancellation of Bionicle only fan Biomnicle remains, so it is now exclusively on our shoulders to make sure that Bionicle doesn't die. I hope we all can work on this together and enjoy the franchise that became such a staple of our livestyles
  20. My vote for the best set of 2016 goes to Umarak the Destroyer, who is not only my favorite 2016 set, but also my favorite Generation 2 set and ranks on 4th my list of greatest Bionicle sets of both generations (3rd is 2006 Axonn, 2nd the 2009 titan Toa Mata Nui and 1st the 2008 titan Übertakanuva) But in 2016 I also liked Tahu and Onua
  21. Here comes another one. One which is another frightening reminder of the ridiculousness of synthol. Valdir the synthol freak Skull Basher This just shows that Synthol is not only life threathening, but looks outright disgusting. Both Valdir and Skull Basher share massive chests, massive upper arms but ridiculously thin forearms.
  22. In a few hours it will be exactly a week after the unexpected collapse of Bionicle Generation 2. While this event, cataclysmic to our beloved hobby, has answered a few questions, it has created many more new questions that loom over not only Bionicle, but over constraction as a whole. We know that Generation 2 has collapsed and I think that we can be certain that LEGO wouldn't have cancelled Bionicle if Bionicle was a success - in fact, if they cancelled it so quickly, unexpectedly and in defiance of their earlier plans, it must have been, financially speaking, extremely unsuccessful. I am quite certain that if it were only a minor unsuccess they would have merely decreased its production and stocking and not cancel it. The end of Generation 2 seems to indicate that the line must have been a true massacre unsuccess Which brings me to what we don't know - to the main question why I created this thread - What has failed? Was it Bionicle? Or was it constraction itself? Now the thing that really put this big question mark into my head was this tweet: This is a tweet released by the LEGO group itself. I really find it hard to believe that they wouldn't have contingency plans for a sudden collapse of one of their lines - you don't get to be the leader in the toy market without covering all the angles. They had exact financial figures so, unlike us, they had to see this coming. Yet they don't have a replacement for Bionicle. I can think of several interpretations of this kinda vague tweet - one of them being that this failure might have been something bigger than just Bionicle. What if constraction as a whole is dying? Truth is, this tweet seems to suggest that for the first time in many years, there won't be a constraction exclusive theme around. Now this is obviously mere speculation on my part - I am not saying that I know something about this issue, I am merely highlighting that I don't know what's happening and that I am puzzled by it. And because I am puzzled by this I would like to hear the opinions of other forumers, so please share your thoughts and maybe we can get some answers in this sea of proto .... ehm, I mean in this sea of questions
  23. This is a difficult choice. In Generation 1 I like Tahu the most, but in Generation 2 my favorite is Onua. I have decided to vote for Onua since I like G2 Onua more than G1 Tahu
  24. Since a mask is just a small piece, commercially available 3D printing might be a solution. I have started a bit with 3D design a half year ago, but quickly stopped once I realized that I won't be able to truly learn it alone so I enlisted on a course on Udemy. It might take some months, but once I complete the course I might get into designing a 3D model of the Mask of Ultimate Power, if we still won't have one by that time, that is
  25. To lighten the mood of the sad last week I have another lookalike Wall E Onewa
