Aside from bands with strict similarities to Opeth, I'd recommend looking into some more melodic death metal in general, especially bands from Sweden like Dark Tranquillity and (early) In Flames.

Thanks for your suggestions! I'm actually familiar with Katatonia but they didn't really grow on me... I've checked out a couple of things by Insomnium in the past-might have to take a second look though...And I think I've also heard a few songs for In Flames but haven't taken the time to delve into them properly
