  1. they're probably just giving her the extra attention because she'll be leaving soon. they went all this time without giving her much in the way of a character, and now they're trying to rush one in as fast as possible so they'll A. have a story for her departure and B. give us a reason to care.

  2. better than Heritage. a lot more focused and well-composed. it kind of slacks toward the middle, but the first few and last few songs are all excellent.

stylistically it's not that much different, but the melodies are definitely a lot stronger and there are some riffs here and there that remind me of their older stuff.

  3. hnnnnng I am suddenly overcome with jealousy

more impressive than my Fear Factory collection, that's for sure. I've only got the standard editions of Demanufacture, Mechanize, and The Industrialist and the collector's edition of Obsolete. then again, I don't particularly care for Digimortal, Archetype, or Transgression so I don't mind not having those.

envy the deluxe Demanufacture, Soul of a New Machine, and Concrete though.

  4. those are their two best albums. New American Gospel and Burn the Priest are also good, albeit a lot rawer and grittier, and Wrath is a lot better than people give it credit for, but Sacrament is too overproduced and Resolution was just sort of boring.

  5. I really like it a lot. definitely better than The Hunter, and I'm probably in a minority on this but I like it more than Crack the Skye honestly.

I'd say it's about as good as Blood Mountain, maybe even slightly better since the songs are more immediately enjoyable whereas that album was a grower.

  6. There are myriad reasons. As I stated, they can be used for home-defense. Some people like tinkering. Others collect them. Some just like doing target practice to improve their aim. Some like to use them for hunting because, hey, people eat meat.

I could've worded my last comment better. I didn't mean to say that's why people like guns in general (although that connection could certainly be made), what I meant to say is that the power trip is the reason why somebody would like the feeling of firing a gun. this entry wasn't about those things you mentioned there, it was about the act of firing a gun and how good it felt in this instance, which is what I was commenting on.

even if you don't consciously realize it or think about it, the rush and feeling of satisfaction you get out of firing a gun and hitting a target is because of how empowering it is, whether it's bringing down a wild animal or just putting a hole through a piece of paper. like, "hey, I shot that!" you feel responsible, you feel like YOU used that GUN to HIT that THING, and that makes you feel strong and good about yourself. it's power. that's all I'm saying.

  7. I'm not sure why my comment keeps getting deleted. "it sure feels good having the power of life and death within your hands, doesn't it?" which, I mean, it's true, isn't it? I've fired a gun before as well, and I recognize that the appeal is in the power trip. I mean, literally what other reason is there to like guns? they're made for shooting. for destruction. if you like the feeling of firing a gun, it's because you like the rush and the feeling of power and control it gives you. it's pretty simple once you think about it.

I guess not wanting to think too hard gives you a free pass to delete whatever comments you feel like.

  8. Sadistik. not Christian, but don't let his violent-sounding name fool you - his lyrics are some of the most intelligent and emotional I've heard in the genre, and instrumentally his stuff is pretty chill and atmospheric and even a bit beautiful. his latest album Flowers for My Father was my favorite album of last year, and I'm not even that much of a hip-hop fan.

also, De La Soul if you want some good old-school hip-hop with a positive message and quirky style. their 1989 debut 3 Feet High and Rising is a masterpiece and classic of the genre as a whole.

here are a couple songs you can try:

    Sadistik - "The Beast"

De La Soul - "Tread Water"

both of these artists have occasional profanity, particularly De La Soul on their later albums, but overall I'd say they're "cleaner" than most of what you'll find in hip-hop.

    Christian rap gets bonus points.

How come I never know about these different type of Christian music. First it was Christian Metal now Christian rap.

Christian variations of both styles have existed about as long as their secular counterparts, it's just they usually don't get much attention because they're usually trash.
