You summed up my thoughts basically spot-on.
The mutants felt awkwardly strung in to give it a tighter connection to the rest of the X-Men universe; Viper in particular was really only there to act semi-menacing and to put in the mortality suspense-building device, and then it didn't even last long enough to have any impact on plot-relevant events.
The good guys and bad guys were completely bland without explaining anyone's motivation or allegiance until the very end, and I think the context of even the best fight scenes really suffered because we didn't know/weren't given a reason to care about why it was happening or who it was happening to.
I basically predicted the grandfather's betrayal from the trailers, and the fact that what's-her-name didn't see it coming either meant that she lured Logan to Japan to steal the immortality for herself or the grandfather was behind it the entire time, and the latter seemed more likely.
I can't remember a lot of what happened to the secondary characters between Logan as a wilderness man and the fight with the Silver Samurai, and unfortunately I don't think any of it mattered in the end.
It seemed like most people's consensus was "Yeah, it was okay, but the end really made up for it." Like, the entire movie was an excuse to tease that post-credits Sentinel reveal? That's really what it amounted to for me.

Greg is dumb.Legends of Metru Nui was a terrible movie; The Legend Reborn was so much better.
Matoro didn't create ice that started to sink; he froze a different element in the water that solidified and had a density greater than that of the water; H2O isn't the only thing that turns solid due to a temperature drop. (And while water gets less dense when its a solid, that is like an exception and everything else does the opposite.) Your complaints about this scene are invalid.
Old gray was an awful color and we should all be much happier with bleys. We're also better off with colors like teal or purple.
HAVE AT YOU CONTROVERSIES!
I always wondered about that. When I read the part in that one book where he froze Pridak and that one other Barraki, I had to stop and say "What?" because it said that the ice around them sank down.
The main problem is that the book specifically calls it ice and not "a frozen substance." Even if it wasn't ice, there are still some major problems with this presupposition. What else was in the water, and how did it come in large enough quantities that it formed a large chunk around the Barraki. What happened to the water in the vicinity in order for this frozen chunk to become purely of another substance? How did Matoro have so much control over these chemical reactions, especially considering that he was a new Toa adjusting to his powers?

that's it
that's literally the entire explanation
no science or overwrought theories involved
Greg is just a bad writer and it shows.

Basically Guillermo Del Toro is the perfect writer/director and Pan's Labyrinth is unquestionably some of his finest work. If you're not watching it in Spanish then there's no point. Also Doug Jones is an incredible actor who inhabits these roles in a frighteningly convincing manner. My oh my is that a great movie. I saw it a couple years in my Spanish class, and... daaaaaang.
It's kind of neat watching it in Spanish because "El Fauno" speaks in a more archaic form of Spanish with some different verb endings and pronouns.
Having said that, you completely missed the point of this entry but whatever.
(ALSO OMG ROB AND BECCA ILU GUYS TOO c:)

I think that anyone on the internet should be able to tell simply by putting the words "Booker" and "Elizabeth" even in vague proximity
