--IC: Viis--

"Thanks, Thel.  Hope your bounty hunting picks up.  If you're ever in this part of town again, you know where to find me."

Reluctantly, Viis groped for the door handle and slipped inside, closing the door quietly behind her as she went.  She stood in silence for a few long seconds, let out a breath, and felt her way back to the room with the target in it.

IC Sorox

He didn't have enough time or strength to respond to the retort. Instead he mustered up whatever strength a Toa had and thrust himself to the side of the ship before vomiting into the water.

"Gah... Why couldn't we just have flown instea-"

"..."

"I hate myself so much right now."

IC: (Datrox)

"Hindsight's 20/20, Sor. On the bright side, we got ourselves a boat now. Getting from Wahi to Wahi will be easier now."
He looked ahead of them. The boat didn't seem to be going in a specific direction at the moment.
"Speaking of, we are heading towards Po, right?"

And a little bunnying, if you don't mind.

IC Sorox (and crew)

He gazed into the water, groaning to himself. "Just... Point the thing that makes the boat do the stuff..."

"Wow, you sure are specific." Datrox walked to the rudder and shifted it with some effort.

After about three hours, the group had arrived at the Po-Koro harbour. Datrox stepped out and fastened a solid knot, showing Cyramar how it's done, although he might just as easily forget. Sorox, however, had mustered up his strength and used his mask to fly into port, and was now leaning against a crate as his senses returned to him.

Vanik IC:

A medium-sized steamboat begins pulling into the harbor. The smog from its smokestack can be seen from a couple miles away. At the helm is a rather cheery Ga-Toa.

"Oh, what do ya do with a drunken sailor?"

The ship narrowly avoids hitting a large rock formation that would've have capsized the boat.

"What do ya do with a drunken sailor?"

The ship scrapes the side of a moored fishing boat.

"What do ya do with a drunken sailor,"

The ship slightly impacts the dock before it comes to a halt.

"Early in the mornin'!"

The Toa puts down his anchor and climbs out of the ship. He takes in a deep breath of Ga-Koro air.

"Ah! It be good to be coming back to ye home port! Why, if ever there be a city for seadogs like me, this would be it, me friends!"

Vanik notices nobody is listening.

"Oh, I forget. Nobody here's me friend! Well, I got to be doing somethin' about that, don't I?"

IC: As Casanuva led the way to the Ga-Koro gate, Zueya risked a glance at Mako and Dakte. Besides an accent and the armor, she could have mistaken them for... Ga-Toa, maybe Vo-Toa like herself. She recalled what Casanuva had told her, of their mental powers that far surpassed what Vakua's mask was capable of. An intimidating thought, but also an intriguiging one. Casanuva had mentioned that the... "willhammer" was not the limit of their abilities, though.

"So, Mako, Dakte... What is it that you guys do?"

IC: Vilda Mako (Ga-Koro)

"Well, Dakte here is a ceremonial weapon and I'm an old appliance, if that answers your question."

--IC: Viis--

The sounds of the villagers going noisily about their business told Viis that it was morning.  She got out of bed and groped her way to the kitchen, where she clumsily made a cup of coffee.

After downing the contents of her cup, Viis came to a decision.  It was time to make a serious investment.  It just wouldn't do to grope around anymore, and last night's target practice had gone worse than the first one.  She needed, first, a walking stick, and second, some Sonar Wires.  Those would help her find her way around and sense her surroundings more easily.

She groped her way out to the front porch and held up another sign that said, "Pls Guide Me To The Nearest Tech Store."  Deep down, she hoped that Thel would come and escort her there, like he did last night...

--OOC:--

It's about high time I got back to using this character.

I assume since Ghiddy and the others enacted a TIMESKIP, it's morning now.

IC: Zueya snorted softly. "Not really, but it's about the kind of answer I should've expected. Setting aside your, uh, occupations, Casanuva told me you Dasaka have mental powers that make Vakua look like a hack; I was asking about those."

The Vo-Toa paused. "Unless you are being literal and you can shapeshift or something. Is that something you guys do?"

OOC: Timeskip from Kini, roughly a week or two after cashing out in Onu.

IC: Volin

Now more than ever, Volin liked to read.

Ever since he rented the beach house almost a week ago, not a day had passed where he wasn’t sitting on the porch, lost in a book for hours on end. He’d dashed through a murder mystery, a dystopian novel, and now he was in the middle of a physics textbook, sifting through topics like gravity and thermodynamics. The constant flow of information left little room for his mind to wander, and he found it a healthy distraction that helped him forget. He would only get up to eat, go to washroom or to light up a smoke, though apparently literature curbed his nicotine addiction. Not that he minded- it was a bad habit he’d been trying to kick for years.

A light breeze tugged at the pages of his book and tickled the sweat dotting his forehead. It was a typical beach day, hot, sunny, slightly humid, and just cruising into the afternoon. Volin hadn’t gone for a swim yet, not even once, mostly because he didn’t know how to swim with one arm. He knew he’d have to learn eventually, just as he was relearning how to perform the simplest of tasks, like unscrewing a jar. It was annoying, infuriating even, and sometimes he’d throw his hands up and go sulk for a while. Fortunately, his stubborn pride would lure him back until he finally succeeded. Consequently, it kept him from seeking help.

He looked out towards the ocean. The waves didn’t exactly beckon to him.

I should go.

He sighed. His book folded with an audible plop, and he put it down on the side table as he stood up. The sudden urge to smoke was strong, but he ignored it. Maybe food would settle his nerves.

A fruit bowl greeted Volin when he entered the kitchen. In it were apples, oranges, bananas, and more. He settled on a mango, flipping it once in the air before catching it and resting it against a cutting board. He applied a little pressure with his hand to keep the the fruit in place while he willed a knife into the air via telekinesis. As if wielded by a ghost chef, the blade diligently set to work, pausing only for Volin to readjust his grip. After some time, the core had been stripped of all its meat, and he plopped a cube of what he’d diced into his mouth.

“Mm. That’s good,” he mumbled.

IC: Verulas (Spectre) - Ga-Koro (Outskirts)

Alright, #### this ####. I'm tired of waiting.

Activating his mask as he descended from the rooftops, he took one last look at the folder before rolling it up and creating a few seeds in his hands. A second later, and they had sprung to life, their branches and roots weaving themselves over and under each other and eventually began constricting, forming an airtight wooden seal, which was then quickly stuffed inside his armor for safe keeping. Knowing that the guards were currently on the lookout for him, he immediately reasoned that simply trying to walk himself out through the main gate would be a terrible idea, as even if he did continue to remain undetected on the way there, the likelihood of him being discovered would still be pretty high. No, what he needed was a discreet way out of the village, one that was lightly patrolled in comparison, and one where people wouldn't think twice about someone such as himself hanging around.

Thankfully, being the floating village that it was, Ga-Koro did indeed have one such place possessing both qualities, and it wasn't too far from his current position.

A hop, skip, and a jump later, he arrived at the docks, taking a deep breath of that salty air this region was practically known for as he began to slowly lower himself into the water. Shoving a nearby reed into his mouth, he then proceeded to swim out a little further, deactivating his Kanohi before letting himself become completely submerged. Granted, it would take him substantially longer to navigate himself onto the beaches just outside the city walls, but from his point of view, pretty much anything beat spending the night inside of a prison cell.

"Welcome home, sir. I've left a report of todays proceedings upstairs for you to look over."

"Excellent," said the Ba-Matoran as he stepped inside his two-story mansion, flanked by the pair of Skakdi that made up his security detail. "Anything particularly worthy of note?"

"Our men were unable to retrieve payment earlier today from a shop near the docks, and our informants inside the Marines discovered that the Toa you dealt with last week had access to certain files concerning our operations within the village; files that now appear to have gone missing," the Lesterin who had approached him said, displaying a hint of concern in his voice.

"Of course they have. Now I'm going to be up all night, wondering why I even pay those idiots."

"Sir, perhaps you have misunderstood the situation we're in; if those files - "

"Those files are of no concern; the heralds only shout what I want them to, and I've got a number of influential people in my pocket who can make the entire situation disapear. Get someone to tail that sister of his if you must, but frankly, I have other things to worry about."

Watching him nod before eventually departing, the Matoran and his entourage proceeded their way towards the stairs, passing the various potted plants stationed throughout the building about every few feet. One of the Skakdi let out a silent yawn as they began their ascent, only to quickly straighten himself back out after his companion elbowed him in the ribs, just in time for their boss to turn around and address them as they finally reached the top.

"I'll be spending a few hours in my study before I retire for the evening. One of you stay here while the other checks on the patrols."

Continuing down the halls, the Matoran eventually reached the room in question, opening the door and stepping inside as he started to remove his jacket. Placing it onto the nearby rack as he felt around around for the lights, he let out a sigh, pinching the bridge of his nose as he stepped even further inside...

...only to jump back startled as his chair swiveled around, occupied by a familiar green and blue Toa of Plantlife, casually nursing a glass full of whiskey as he rested his feet up on top of the desk sitting in front of him.

"Long day?," Spectre asked lazily. "Me too. Hope you don't mind that I just sort of helped myself to your ####."

"Who the #### are you?! How the #### did you get in here?!"

"Why, the window, silly. You were obviously so busy throwing around ridiculously large piles of money that you neglected to do a proper background check on your locksmith. Spoiler alert, by the way; they suck. As for who I am, well... let's just say that I represent someone who you've managed to tick off, and... oh, screw it. I'm here to kill your ###."

"You think you're real funny, don't you? Alright, buddy. Let's see how long it takes my associates to wipe that grin off your face!," the Matoran said, tilting his head back towards the hallway. "Get your ##### up here! Now!"

"Yeah, I'm affraid nobody's coming to your aid tonight, pal; your buddies are all off in dreamland, courtesy of a few alterations I made to your plants," the Toa sneered as he rose to his feet. "So it's just you and me, all alone in this secluded little compound, and far enough away from Ga-Koro that nobody will even hear you scream."

"W-w-wait! You seem like a smart guy, seeing as to how you got rid of everyone else! You should come work for me! I'll double whatever you're being paid - no, triple it!"

"About that... You see, I don't know if that'll sit right with me. I've seen that file of yours, and boy, have you done a lot of bad things over the years. Murder, smuggling, extortion, racketeering... But having people embezzle funds from the Ko-Koro Victims' Relief Effort for you? Now that's a whole new low, and frankly, it's going to take a lot more than triple my pay to make me forget about that, especially since I was actually there, helping people evacuate. But onto more pressing matters," he said, pausing to unsheathe one of his knives, only to start twirling it around with his fingers. "How many times do you think I can stab you before you eventually bleed out? Personally, my all-time record's somewhere around thirty-seven, but the victim in question at the time was a Vortixx, so I really doubt we'll be able to go that high..."

"S-s-stop! No, here!," said the Matoran, brandishing a slip of paper with a string of numbers written on it. "T-t-this is the combination to my vault! Take as much as you want! Just please, don't kill me!"

Darting his eyes between his target and what he was offering for a moment, he took some time to contemplate his decision, eventually letting out a dejected sigh as he put away the weapon and responded with a slight shrug.

"Meh. Works for me. Had you going for a little bit, though."

"R-r-really?"

"Psht. Murdering people's way too messy of an affair these days. First you've got to deal with all the goons, then you have to make sure that you've actually killed the target, then whoever hired you's going to want proof of the deed on top of all that, and before you even know it, you're walking through the desert without any water and you're talking to some poor sap's severed head. And trust me; they have, like, no conversational skills whatsoever."

"Huh. I'll... just take your word for it, then."

"That would probably be for the best, yeah," Spectre agreed, grabbing a stray handkerchief off of the desk before wiping down the rim of the glass and tossing it aside. "Here, you look like you need this a lot more than I do. I honestly thought you were going to #### yourself at one point."

"Well, what can I say? You're one scary guy," he said, passing off the code and taking the drink, only to practically down it in one gulp.

"I do have my moments," the Bo-Toa chuckled, looking past the Matoran and at the face of the massive grandfather clock looming behind him. "Oh, gee. Look at the time. I should probably be on my way now. Catch you later."

Walking off towards the door, he reached out to turn the handle, only to slap himself in the forehead.

"Right... I almost forgot," the mercenary exclaimed, brandishing a set of photographs before forking them over. "I was supposed to give you these back when we were still doing the whole "I'm going to kill you!" routine, but I mean, you might as well have them anyway, seeing as how someone's actually hiring people to try to kill you and all."

"Hey, I recognise these two! That ##### is so ####### dead tomorrow!"

"Yeah, I thought you might. Well, thanks anyway, I guess. Enjoy the rest of your evening!"

"Oh, you bet I will! I feel so alive!"

Seconds later, the effects of the poison he unknowingly ingested kicked in, causing him to asphyxiate to death in a puddle of his own vomit.

Having returned to Ga-Koro sometime later to pick up the rest of his payment, Verulas decided that he should grab himself a quick celebratory drink before beginning his long-### trek back to the frozen wastes of Obsidian Outpost. Turning off his Volitak as he entered a bar, he stepped up to the counter, had a seat on one of the stools, and pulled out a sack of widgets the size of his fist before setting them down in front of him. Unfortunately, despite a surprisingly successful raid on the manor's vault (more on that later), he only had what he originally came into the region with, plus the pay for the job he just completed, but he clearly wasn't going to let that get to him.

"Barkeep," he said, grinning maniacally from ear to ear. "Give me the hardest stuff you've got on the shelf; I'm heading up to Ko-Wahi."

"Yes, our Menti Disciplines is what we call them." I answered, turning to give her a polite nod. I didn't particularly feel like giving these unknowns too much information about what we were capable of, but at the same time, a brief overview couldn't hurt. At least not too much.

IC: Trava (Ga-Koro, Beach House)

"Nice moves" a remark came, not from the doorway, but from one of the windows. In it, Volin would get to see the unmasked face of the Lesterin Huntress who'd joined the hunting party in Kini-Nui, and afterwards invited herself along when her own partner disappeared without a trace.

She hadn't been around much, only occasionally dropping by to pick up something, say hello or otherwise not really be much more than a distant silhouette busy tanning somewhere far away. The Bo-Lesterin had seemed to be practically drinking in the bright sunlight, and as a result was without even the slightest hint of wear and tear from the exhausting hunt still left on her.

"Oh hey, thanks," Volin replied, working up a half smile. Even though he'd been the loner type his whole life, company counted for more nowadays and he appreciated the Lesterin's sporadic visits. He wouldn't label her as a friend since they were more associates than anything, though he found they got along reasonably well, considering his less than friendly demeanour.

He also found her rather attractive, which might have had something to do with it.

"You're looking well," he said, biting into another cube. "Want some?"

"Me and the sun go really well together" Trava replied as she disappeared from the window, and a moment later came sauntering through the doorway. True to her remark, she was wearing the appropriate attire for tanning, in a yellow color that matched the same highlights on her body. Where exactly her actual gear was located, was a mystery known only to her, it certainly wasn't anywhere inside the beach house. Although that palm tree outside had been swaying a little...

She deftly snatched a cube and devoured it almost as if it was the first hint of a meal she'd gotten a hold of in ages, and didn't shy away from expressing her own enjoyment.

Her gaze settled on Volin's arm, and a hint of concern appeared on her face.

"...and how are you holding up, anyway?"

Volin followed her gaze all the way to his stump. "I'm fine," he said briskly, only to catch himself right after. With an inaudible breath, he eased himself into a more relaxed tone of voice. "It aches sometimes, but it's okay for the most part. Learning how to function's the real pain."

He paused. Talking about it was apparently a step in the right direction, but he wasn't so sure.

It made him feel vulnerable, and he didn't like to be pitied.

"And what about you?" he asked, reversing the subject. "Got any plans?"

"I'll be going out again in a couple days, I think." Trava replied. She sat herself down in a chair after grabbing a couple more Mango cubes. She entertained herself with flicking them into the air and catching them in her open mouth.

"I'll probably find something to put the profits towards, and then it's back out again." she said succinctly.

"You probably already noticed that I'm the outdoorsy type." she said coyly, avoiding the topic of Volin's arm.

Volin took a seat on a couch across from Trava and watched her play with her food. In a way, she reminded him of Alfon, how he'd always do stuff like that. It made him wonder in passing what his younger brother was up to.

"Yup," Trava continued, "it's been my livelihood for... I was already pretty young when I first started trying. It's been some years since then, too."

A few moments passed, in which between them, the Mango disappeared. Trava was whistling innocently when an epiphany seemed to hit her.

"You drink tea?" she asked

IC: Oceanna

Oceanna squinted her eyes, even with her new pair of shades the sun was horribly blinding to the Onu-Toa. Having lived underground almost her entire life, the sun was an absolute menace. How did people who lived on the surface keep from becoming blind!? She'd almost stumbled into half a dozen people on her way through Ga-koro.

It's hot, it's blinding, and I don't like it. Why couldn't today be one of those cloudy days she'd heard of? She wasn't sure why she put up with it, she could easily have stayed home if she really wanted to. But she just couldn't bring herself to do that, not after what had happened. The money they had earned was...actually more than she had expected. Perhaps enough to even start a band like she wanted too, once she found members of course. Perhaps she would after her business was done here...

She walked into the beach house, where Volin and Trava were chatting about whatever. Oceanna looked relieved just be out of the sun's gaze as she carefully placed her guitar against the nearby wall as well as her newly repaired Rahkshi staff. "I'm back." She said a bit tiredly. Not really wanting to interrupt whatever conversation the two were having she said nothing else and simply sat down on the couch across from Volin, placing her shoulder bag on the floor.

It was funny, thinking back when she had first met Volin, she never would have imagined she'd be staying at a beach house with the ######. As it was however, Volin had been seriously injured, and as the daughter of two doctors she just didn't feel right leaving him while he recovered. She had in fact insisted that she stay with him for a while, convincing him wasn't hard when she mentioned that she was a lot cheaper than paying for a doctor when she could do the same thing.

It...it wasn't like she liked the jerk or anything. She just wouldn't have been able to live with herself if he died from an infection or something stupid like that!

"I'm more of a coffee guy but I don't mind tea," Volin shrugged, licking the juice off his fingers. Just then, his favourite Toa of earth strode into the living room, clearly weathered by the sun as she settled down on the couch. He nodded in greeting.

There was a clattering noise in the bar suddenly. A large Onu-Toa who was clearly a violent drunk had shoved a particularly hideous Skakdi to the side and out of his chair. In a fluid motion the Skakdi flipped the Onu-Toa onto the floor, smashing his face into the ground, and in a stumbling motion brought his elbow down hard upon the Toa's lower back.

A crack was heard, followed by several screams. Apparently the Onu-Toa was not fond of pain. He passed out soon after, the Skakdi calmly standing up and hobbling over to where Verulas sat. It was at this moment that he appeared to be blind.

"Hello." He smiled calmly, the horrid flesh-coloured teeth seemingly shaking.

"Coming up." Trava replied, and got up. She went outside for a moment, and her absence was accompanied by the sudden noise of rustling tree branches.

She came back inside carrying a small pouch. She put it to the side and started filling a kettle with water and heating it up.

Waiting for the kettle to boil, she leaned on the counter and regarded Oceanna and Volin.

Can't it wait? Volin thought irritably, though he already knew the answer would be a resounding 'No.' He shot Oceanna a look, grumbling silently as he unfastened his bandages.

"Trava, you might want to look away."

The wrapping came loose, leaving his stump exposed in all its sickly glory. The flesh was pink and raw, however the bleeding had gone down to a minimum as signs of healing took hold over time. Volin's face went stony when he regarded the wound, green eyes tracing every detail down to the last fibre until he felt sick and had to stop looking at it.

"Make it quick."

IC: Trava (Ga-Koro, Beach House)

Trava had a glib reply ready, but was cut short when the actual wound was revealed. If she'd been wearing her mask, she probably would have had to step outside. As it was, she was content with turning her back to the proceedings and watching the tea.

IC: Oceanna

Oceanna zipped open her shoulder bag, pulling out a roll of bandages, disinfectant, and other things she needed. She gave Volin an apologetic look as she took a cloth that she dosed in disinfectant and dabbed the wound with it as gently as she could. She knew it probably stung a lot, but it was all to make sure it didn't become infected. She'd seen what could happen to people who got wounds infected...it wasn't pretty at all.

"I know this sucks...but trust me when I say that you don't want to get gangrene...it's not pretty at all." She said as she finished apply the disinfectant and started to wrap the wound with fresh bandages.

IC: "So sorta like our elemental powers." This guy was good at mincing words to say much but mean little. Zueya was a bit tired of old guys not telling her stuff, though. "Except your element would be sheer stubborn willpower and forcing things to change with your brains."

Casanuva snorted as they passed through Ga-Koro's gate. "Sister, the both of us control both halves of electromagnetism, Vakua controls vibrations, I don't think any of us have any real idea of what the karz plasma is, and I've fought two guys in recent memory that warp gravity, the thing that makes up and down work. I don't think either of us have any standing to comment on esoteric powers someone may or may not have." The Fa-Toa slowed and turned around, chuckling while he did so. "I mean, if anything, Aelied is the only one of us with an elemental power that makes sense!"

IC: Verulas (Spectre) - Ga-Koro (Bar)

Upon hearing the sound of the Onu-Toa crashing into the floor, he turned his head towards the scene, but did little else in terms of displaying any form of emotion. Places like these weren't really worth their weight in booze if there wasn't at least one idiot getting the Karz kicked out of them, so by that logic, he was expecting one heck of a drink.

When the being responsible for said Karz-kicking, a Skakdi who had clearly seen better days (though to be fair, the same could be said for most of the ones he'd encountered ever since he arrived on this island, with the obvious exception being the Boss-Lady herself, who still somehow managed to be strangely alluring), proceeded to sit in the stool right next to him and attempted to initiate conversation, however, he simply raised his eyebrows as he watched the bartender finally return with his order.

"Personally? I would've made off with his wallet and some of his other belongings after cleaning his clock. Nothing says complete and utter humiliation quite like getting your rear handed to you, only to wake up sometime later, flat broke and missing your shoes," the Bo-Toa said, reaching for the glass and downing its contents all in one shot.

"To the crooks their crookery. If I acted so effective all the time, I woudn't be much of a crippled wretch?"

He glanced back over at the Toa on the floor, who was still groaning, nobody seeming to bother to help him up. "Doesn't look like he has a cent on 'im..."

"Just saying that if someone's dumb enough to start picking fights, they should at least have to make up for it by covering the cost of your drinks is all," Verulas responded, signaling for the bartender to pour him another. "Even if they aren't exactly conscious at the time of your order."

IC: Volin

Volin said nothing as he held back his snark through gritted teeth and a clenched fist. The pain, while intense, only lasted a brief moment, receding into a vibrant echo by the time Oceanna finished with the bandages.

"Thank you," he murmured in a grudging tone. "How long 'till we don't have to do this anymore?"

IC: Oceanna

"Well..." Oceanna hesitated, she already knew her answer might elicit a groan or two. "...wounds like this take a month or two to completely heal on average. To be absolutely sure it doesn't get infected we need to clean the wound everyday till it's mostly healed over." She said it in an apologetic tone, she knew it wasn't what he wanted to hear.

"I'm sure by the time a week has passed it will hurt considerably less, so it shouldn't be quite as painful in the long run." She figured she'd at least try to throw some good news in there. Oceanna couldn't help but feel guilty about his injury, though she knew logically speaking that was absurd. Volin knew the risks and dangers well before they all ventured into that cave to hunt Rahkshi. But logic couldn't control how she felt.

He looked down in discontent.

"I truly do not understand your type." He completely ignored the bartender's existence as they returned with the next drink, their face showing the expecting signs of another body on the floor. "I guess I expected too much."

He moved his hand back to rest on the counter to aid in him getting up, but somehow - in a manner so precise it had to be deliberate - he knocked over the glass. The Skakdi squinted in the direction of his hand, feeling around, sure he had bumped something. The cup somehow managed to not break on the other side, but the clink was very apparent, reassuring it still existed.

Seeing as to how the drink intended for him had been knocked over before he could properly receive it, the mercenary was clearly not amused.

"I am so not paying for that," he said, causing the bartender to focus their ire on the Skakdi.
