IC: Nicole looked through the different bags of blood before finding a bag with the label of "Type AB" before pulling it out and running toward Chastain.

OOC: From what I understand, the correct proceedure for thawing stored blood is the use of warm water, but given technological advancements

IC [Engi pirate]

The crystal shards pinged off the metal, thus going to show why non-living-crystal ammo in a crystal rifle was great for squishy organics and kevlar armor and less great for cutting into metal, and the Engi hulk promptly took some minor offense to having its nice gun shot at. It opened fire, spewing out stun rounds and consequently filling the room with random zaps of electricity as the stray rounds hit the wall and tried to ground themselves.

"Free at last!" Estelle exclaimed with a sort of victory howl, immediately turning the Falcon to attack the other ships. "Dave, which enemy ship attack the Kestrel would be the best target?" She asked the computer.

Minor technicality note; when I said aft airlock I meant starboard airlock, so yeah, my bad. Just keep that in mind for future posts.

"Got it, Dave!" She replied into her comm as she made her way to the port side drop ship. Once she got close enough she armed her missiles. She'd hit the ship with one at first, get it's attention away from the Kestrel.

"Target acquired, firing now." She said as she launched her first missile at the ship.

OOC: I join the RPG and everyone's eating and watching TV. I leave because of finals, and the colonel loses a leg and firefights break out on space stations. I come back and all that there is to do is bond over botany and play cards. I take a break for a day or two and we get into combat. Why does everyone get violent when I'm away? :P Av, Shadowhawk, I'll be joining with you, hope you guys don't mind.

IC: As the stray rounds bounced around the surface of the hull, they also deflected off of the polished surface of a mess hall table. Another Rockman had entered the airlock, a belt of handheld firearms draped over his security armor, along with a shotgun strapped to his back. None of the guns were drawn however; both of his hands were occupied holding the table as a shield, its metal surface deflecting the bouncing projectiles as he charged at the massive Engi, silent aside from a low, rumbling grunt as he rammed the table into its midsection, shoving it to the side in an effort to pin it to the wall.

"Apologies for my tardiness." The Rockman barked. "Airlocks lack cover, so I stopped at the mess hall to borrow some. Talk later though, shoot this dastad's head off."

OOC: For those thinking I'm bypassing the filter, I'm not; dastard isn't vulgar, it just rhymes with something that is. It refers to an unpleasant or despicable person, and it's where the term dastardly comes from. It's also a word that Nintendo's US localization seems to really like using.

IC:

Can, thinking quickly, pulled one of his firebomb grenades, guessed at the angle, and threw it high; the grenade bounced of the ceiling of the engine room before landing on the floor with an audible clank, in front of the door that the pirates had come through; Can was counting on the pirates' reflexes recognizing a fallen grenade; as they dove for cover, Can rushed to the closer of the side exits and headed through it, closing the bulkhead behind him just as the firebomb detonated. Naturally, the bulkheads sealed, ideally to keep the fire in, and in this case to trap six pirates in with it. Can brought his pistol up, checking to make sure the hallway was clear.

IC: Nicole ran towards Ashley, the bloodbag in one hand and an IV in the other. As fast as she could she placed both on the table and ran to grab a rack, bringing it towards her and making sure it was magnetically fastened to the ground. Once the bag was strung up, she began to insert the IV proper.

IC [Engi pirate and friends]

With a successful missile lock, the dropship crew quickly became aware of their impending demise and rushed for the airlock, jumping through as the Engi hulk continued to press forward. Gaven's Rockman gymnastics just weren't up to the cut, primarily on the grounds that out of the Interspecies Olympics, Rockmen tended to do the worst there, and the young Rockman fell to the ground, muscles unresponsive. Kharon had faired better, and with the arrival of a new Rockman, the hulk dropped its cannon, seizing the table and giving the botanist a good shove backwards. The arrival of the rest of pirates was followed by an explosion and then a brief decompression, air rushing out through the new hole. Computer overrides took over, though, and the airlock closed, thus avoiding a horrible suffocating demise, but still leaving five armored pirates with guns to deal with.

IC [shipside pirates]

Skinter found no immediate resistance, though the sounds of the fire suppression system could be heard behind the bulkhead. There was a patrol incoming, his visor revealing a Rockman and an Engi. They were obviously on alert, and they seemed to know where Skinter was; perhaps the ship's sensors had finally picked his biometrics out.

IC:

Can was never particularly subtle, and in this case running would only mean dying with a bullet in his back. He had to buy himself time for the teleporter to work around the jammer, and this hallway didn't have enough cover for him to beat the two in a firefight. He weighed his options and pulled his sword, stepping into plain view of the duo and pointing his sword at the engineering room, his pistol aimed at the Engi's head.

"Take me to the Commander or they all die!" Can said, in the same tone of voice he had ordered men to the suburbs of Cairo to hunt hiding Mantis, the voice he had used when he ordered Estelle to stay alive as he pulled her out of the Sahara. It was a tone that demanded attention, obedience, and respect. Especially from a man with a revolver in one hand and a sword in the other.

The Engi's response, with its mechanically-assisted reflexes, was to level its weapon at Can and open fire, a spray of yellow energy coming out and striking Can in the chest. To the Belter's credit, he managed to get a shot out before he collapsed, but the Engi's helmet took the blunt of the blast. The inability to move didn't last long for Can, but by the time it wore off, his hands were cuffed behind his back and he was being escorted by the Rockman, though his original goal was successful; based on the schematics he had seen, they were taking him to the bridge. though his incendiaries and explosives had been stripped off.

"Could be worse." Can thought. "Come to think of it, I've had worse. Captured by pirates, sure. But the Kestrel's there and can back me up. Pirates are never that smart, I can probably talk my way out of this." Since they hadn't taken his visor, Can once again looked for the quantum interference that had kept him from teleporting. His hands being together meant his right hand could reach the touchpad on his wrist, so he could blow the charges and get out if he needed to.

IC: Ovechkin turned as the Engi pushed back, planting his left heel into the ground and spinning around, gripping the table like an athlete would a particularly large discus, letting go of his grip on it to allow it to careen into the newly-arrived pirates. As he completed the spin, he raised his outer arm, clenching it into a massive, boulder-like first aimed squarely at the Engi's head, all the force of the Engi's own push concentrated back into the blow.

IC [Engi pirate]

While its comrades ducked to avoid getting hit by a table, the Engi hulk had to deal with a fist pounding into its fast. It stumbled back from the sheer force of the blow, a sickly reddish-gray blood seeping from its face, but it seemed to be more durable than your typical Engi, returning a one-two punch to the Rockman's face, trying to drive it back. The swordwielding young-one was of little matter to it; the stun darts weren't region specific, his entire body had seized up, and that didn't make for good sword-swinging. The hulk did take the opportunity to kick the downed Rockman in the jaw, though.

Ashley took the pills, waiting for what seemed like an eternity. Soon enough though the pain began to dull down, enough that it felt bearable. She calmed down considerably, though she started looking at Chastain with a funny expression.

Nicole turned away from Ashley, stepping into the middle of the medbay. "Dave," she said. "Ashley seems to be stable for the moment. Is there anyone else who needs my attention at this time?"

IC: [ Wulf Kharon ] - UFS Kestrel / Deck 2 / portside airlock

Taking a calculated step sideways, Wulf Kharon shifted his centre of mass into the relative cover presented by Ovechkin's granite-skinned bulk. In case of return fire, heavily-armored Rockmen worked wonderfully as meat-shields; he knew from experience.

Use your comrades' skin to save your own? Pirate Life Lesson #3.

Assault rifle cradled firmly in vise-like hands, Wulf began systematically squeezing off quick, chattering bursts into the clustered band of hostiles, focusing in particular on the two or three nearest him.

IC - Kelezaag:

It seemed the extent of Kelezaag's luck today would be the excellent Chinese food she had on board the Brasilia; they were being boarded, now, the first interesting thing to happen in weeks, and she had been on the other side of the ship, on a completely different deck. She was likely to miss all of the good fighting. On the bright side, however, the delay gave her time to think of a plan.

"Ship computer," she spoke into her comms, "I noticed Major Daniels used a maintenance shaft to get into the adviser's office. Do those go under the hostiles' position?"

IC (Ameli)

Reacting quickly, Ameli began to backpedal, blasting away at the enemy Rockmen. She knew these creatures were well-armored, to the point where the seemingly foolish tactic of engaging an enemy armed with ranged weapons with naught but fists and bad attitude, was a semi-viable tactic to them. That said, she had also noted their eyes were not armored. This was why each bolt of plasma she let fly was aimed directly at the head.

I believe you find life such a problem because you think there are the good people and the bad people. You are wrong, of course. There are, always and only, the bad people, but some of them are on opposite sides.

Kenshin Harken

IC: Rather than struggle and try to overcome the Rockman in a contest of strength Harken went with a much easier route. Pitching weight to the same side as the broken leg, the armored soldier sent them both over and on to the floor. Using the confusion of the sudden movement as a distraction he twisted his arm towards his opponent's thumb, breaking the lock and freeing his arm. Giving the other being no time to respond Harken slammed his burning armblade in to the alien's exposed eye socket.

"I serve the weak. I serve the helpless. I am their sword and their shield. If you want to strike at them, you must go through me, and I am not so easily moved."

IC: Nicole thought for a moment as she waited for a response from the computer (it's got a lot of things to be doing, under these circumstances it was probably busy responding to several crew members at once). She thought about what was happening a moment. She had no idea what was going on elsewhere in the ship. She did not know if her crewmates were prevailing or if they had been boarded. Either way, some sort of defensive maneuver had to be implemented.

Looking around, Nicole reached into her bag and grabbed the scalpel. It was not much of a weapon but it was sharp and if necessary she could use it as a defensive weapon which could at the very least inflict a serious wound in her attacker. It might not necessarily kill them instantly, but it could slow them down or incapacitate them long enough for her to run away.

She stepped out into the corridor and looked around. No immediate sign of any other presences; crewmate or pirate. The armory was down the hall, and with all haste she ran down towards it, stepping inside. Plenty of weapons were available, but she had to take into account her circumstances. After looking around, she finally reached for a holstered pistol she strapped around her waist. The rifles were out of the question; even with military training it had been too long and she was primarily looking for something to use in defense. She grabbed a few packs of ammunition along with a second pistol and a single bandolier of grenades before she made a run back to the medbay.

***

Nicole placed the second pistol on Ashley's bedside table. "I don't expect you to use it," she explained. "But if we get boarded and the Mantis reach this area while I'm not here I want you to be able to defend yourself. Trust me, you'll thank me for this."

No sooner had Nicole done that than she stepped back into the preparations room. She began to strip off her scrubs and reached for her crumpled and dirt-stained uniform. She would have to find if there was any chance of getting it cleaned when they were done but for now it hardly made much difference seeing as in the next few hours she was probably going to get it stained with sweat anyway. When that was done she quickly slipped into her boots before strapping the gunbelt around her waist and stepping out of the room.

"Dave?" She asked. "Requesting update on our current situation, and keep me posted."

IC [Rockmen pirates]

The Vendarian's tactic was a good one, but her aim simply wasn't precise enough, especially not in these conditions, to hit the Rockman's eyes, though she did come close, plasma drizzling off of its rocky eyebrow and onto the more sensitive lid. With a howl it continued to charge forward, and Ameli's backpeddling found herself against the sealed bulkhead. Oddly enough, though, the Rockman didn't take the opportunity to smash her open against the wall, instead choosing to seize her arms, trying to get her to let go of her rifle.

With Harken, the situation was ever so slightly better. His rolling plan had worked, and now he was ready to impail the alien through the eye socket. Realizing its life was in proper danger, the Rockman took both hands, grabbing the blade as it fell down. It was a monumentally painful thing, cutting into its hands, but pain was something it had long since learned how to deal with. With one final heave, it swung the blade to the side and, with it, Harken, sending him rolling towards the airlock, while the Rockman's head went limp, apparently passed out from the sheer exertion, green blood oozing out from its palms.

Harken would have immediately gotten up, but it seemed the three other pirates had been ready; they unloaded their rifles into his suit, the armor unable to compensate for the sheer amount of energy being sent through it, rendering both it and Harken inert for the moment.

IC [Engi pirate and friends]

While the Engi hulk duked it out with the elder Rockman, the other five pirates were having a tough time of it, being shot at and all. They tried ducking behind small protrusions in the walls, one of them taking a shot to the hip and falling down. Another decided it was a good time for shock and awe, sealing his mask and tossing out a smoke grenade, causing a similar reaction to what was happening on the other-side of the ship; the nearest bulkhead sealed, the automatic fire response system trying to stop any spread. The pirates then started laying down covering fire for their hulk, stun energy flying and forcing the defenders into an awkward situation.

IC [Pirate cap'n]

At some point in their journey to the bridge, the Engi received a hail over the comm, and after some furious words in a language Can was unfamiliar with (perhaps an Engi dialect?), they reversed their course, descending a deck and going to the brig. The Rockman gave him a shove into a free cell and shut the door, glaring at him as the brig door hissed open to reveal the pirate captain. She gave him a look over, then scowled at the Engi. "You let him keep his visor on? Are you that bloody daft?"

"[it's a helmet, what's it going do?]"

"That's a Confederate helmet, they have live HUDs! Who knows what sort of data is being fed to him? Quartz, deal with it."

The Rockman reopened the door, its massive frame blocking the opening and, after some wrestling, took it for himself. Shutting the door, the Rock began to tinker with it, trying to look through the visor and figure it out. The pirate captain turned her attention back to Can proper, beginning her interrogation. "The ship sensors say you appeared out of nowhere; that means you teleported in. Your ship has a League transponder but is obviously a Federation vessel, and you're wearing a Confederate uniform. With all this in mind, what were you doing, what is your ship's purpose, and who is your commanding officer?"

IC [The Computer]

"Major Walker, the remaining dropship has disengaged from the airlock and is attempting to return to its vessel. You should be able to catch up to it in time to stop it."

And to Nicole's inquiry,

"I am compiling causality reports. My sensors have gone blind over Captain Harken and Adviser Halik, I am detecting residual stun radiation interfering with the biometric scanners. I suspect that there will be more wounded for you to treat soon, however."

And to Kelezaag's,

"I am sorry, but that information is restricted. I cannot access ship schematics that reveal the location of the various access points, the Colonel has sealed that information off to command staff only. I am working to override the bulkhead doors, however."

IC: "Very good," Nicole replied after the computer had explained everything. "I need you to do me a favor and keep me posted on everything that happens. I don't care how trivial. I know how vicious the mantis can be; I had to treat hundreds of people who were wounded by their hands. I watched my girlfriend die because of them. IC: Ovechkin staggered back as the blows landed, his helmet jostled askew. Boxing with Rockmen has a habit of making you able to focus through massive blows to the head though. As the second punch landed, he grabbed the Engi's arm with a massive hand, then turned, slamming his, and along with it the Engi's as well, into the ground, and dragging the metal behemoth with it. As he did, he reached his other arm behind his back, grabbing the shotgun off of it and jamming it into the chin, or what appeared to be its chin, of the Engi as it fell, and pulling the trigger.

"Doctor Sarany, there are no Mantis on board this vessel other than our own. I did, however, detect two Rockmen and a modified Engi, before the sensors began to blank. You will be informed of any imminent danger."

IC [Engi pirate]

In a last second maneuver, the Engi seized the shotgun, pushing it off as it fired. The slug tore through its arm, severing the major muscles and allowing it to go limp in the Rockman's hand. There was no roar of pain, no reaction from the Engi; the part of its brain processing pain wasn't on anymore. Gray goo cut the bleeding, the one-armed behemoth pulling itself back up as it grappled for the shotgun, keeping it pointed away while it headbutted the Rockman further down the hall, towards the bulkhead.

IC - Kelezaag;

The Mantis clicked her mandibles in puzzlement; she had never been denied access to strategically important information by an uppity computer before. Humans, she thought. They'll only give up their secrets when its their life on the line.

"If the Colonel's not too busy," she said aloud, somewhat sarcastically, "be a dear and ask her for me, would you?" She was in the adviser's office, now. If she couldn't get anywhere with the Colonel, she was considering spitting on the floor and finding out for herself. She imagined if she saved the lives of some of the crew, she would be able to avoid one of the silly human court-marshals.

IC: [ Wulf Kharon ] - UFS Kestrel / Deck 2 / portside airlock

The privateer's helmet hummed warningly, onboard ventilation fans kicking into high gear, as dense billows of smoke roiled outwards through the corridor, accompanied by a hasty spattering return volley of pirate gunfire. Stun energy, by the look and sound of it.

At almost the same instant, his own weapon's firing pin clacked home on an empty chamber; the thirty-two round mag was empty, leaving him with but a single viable option for the moment. Draw back, recalibrate... retaliate.

Ducking for full cover behind the combined bulk of the two battling titans, Wulf reloaded the rifle in exactly one point seven five two seconds, swapping magazines with the deft, instinctive surety only experience can grant, then swung it back up and sent a brutal, scything burst into the crippled Engi's skull and neck area.

IC The Rockman grinned, the internal padding of the helmet squishing to absorb the force of the headbutt. Even an off-kilter helmet still provided protection. With the Engi's lone arm battling for the shotgun, he reared back, then slammed a hulking fist into its left knee.
