Quick question about Ta-Matoran

Recommended Posts

I have a quick question about Ta-Matoran. If they fall into lava will they die? I know they are somewhat heat resistant, and I know Matoran used to lava-surf on Mata Nui, but what happens if they fall off into the lava? Mess ups are bound to happen as they learn the skill, does that mean they can survive for a bit longer in lava then other creatures if they get out quickly? Are they totally resistant, or as resistant as any other Matoran. Random I know but I could use a solid answer. Thanks.

I'd like to think that if the first time someone tried lava surfing they had a low chance of survival, it wouldn't catch on much. But I guess Ta-Matoran can't be too overpowered and able to just take a swim in it. Even Tahu probably wouldn't be happy if he fell into the lava. Maybe they practice on water first (because Water is for Wimps. :P)?

Although I've been guilty of writing Matoran falling into lava and emerging just fine (and not even just Ta-Matoran, and not even just once... I used to be such a noob :P ). I always just explained it as saying Protodermis has a lower melting point than whatever Earth lava happens to be made of.

I believe when the Inika encountered Vezon, and sunk him into the lava, Jaller volunteered to seim into the lava and get the mask. He said something along the lines of I'll be able to last down there a little bit longer than you, but I will die eventually. So I'm guessing while normal Matoran have a heat resistence of 1, Ta-Matoran would have a resistance of 2.5-3, maybe? That's how I see it at least.

Okay, was asking this because I'm writing a story set in the new 2015 storyline and it features Skull Spiders making some Ta-Matoran jump into lava on purpose to kill them, so I was wondering if they were down there long enough if they'd actually expire.

Yes.

3. I also noticed that Kopeke survived being frozen in ice. Could Ta-Kornans survive in lava? Or can all Tohunga simply survive being frozen?

GregF: No, Ta-Matoran cannot survive in lava, although they might have more resistance to it than others. Kopeke may have been the equivalent of cryogenically frozen, so that he was able to revive.

4. About Ta-Kornans in lava, Lava-surfing is said to be very dangerous. So what would happen if a Matoran fell in lava?

GregF: Most likely they would be dissolved eventually.

8. Does Tahu have power over lava? and what would happen if he fell in it?

He only has partial power over lava, because lava is only partially fire... it's also a lot of rock. And falling in it would be a bad thing. He has limited resistance to that sort of heat, but not immunity to it.

(Although technically we don't know the lava durability of Protectors, but you said Ta-Matoran so yeah.)

You know the heat part? Toa of Fire can control that. They can control the heat of the stuff, which, in turn, can alter the density and viscosity of the lava to some extent. That's all it would be. A Toa of Fire and a Toa of Stone or Earth working together could control lava in the more general sense that way, as we saw Avak and Hakann do the same.

We know he could create it using a combination of his powers, so, given how Elemental Powers generally work, I'd say yes.
By that logic Wairuha would be able to control weather, yes?

Yes. We saw Gali and Lewa combine their powers to create a thunderstorm, and Kopaka could control blizzards. All three together would have almost total control over the weather.

I guess they would have like 5 or 10 minutes to get out, before something not good will happen, I don't know, that always confused me.

But, I do agree with click about they practice on water first (maybe the Ta-Matoran who first did it was friends with a Ga-Matoran).

Well we also have a Rahkshi of weather control so I don't see why he couldn't.

Is that pretty much getting off topic guys, because I don't see that having anything to do with the Ta-Matoran and Lava?

The original question was answered, but we're still going on with an extended discussion related to Matoran/Toa-related abilities.

To quote the comic where they fight Vezon:

Jaller: "He went down, and took the Mask of Life with him. I'll have to go in after him."

Hahli: "Are you crazy? You won't last two seconds in that cauldron!"

In the book version of the fight, it goes like this:

"And took the Mask of Life with him", added Toa Jaller. "I'll have to go in there after it."

"Jaller, no!" said Hewkii. "You won't last more than ten seconds in that cauldron!"

"That's ten seconds longer than any of the rest of you would," the Toa leader answered. "With my natural resistance to heat and flame, maybe I can buy enough time to reach the mask and toss it to you. After that... take over as leader, Hewkii. Keep the team together and get the Mask of Life wherever it has to go."

It's clear that even with heat resistance, none of them thinks Jaller would last even a minute. The next few sentences has him reminisce about lava surfing in Ta-Koro, where he makes it even more clear that falling into lava is not safe and not at all pretty to watch.

We see the same in Mask of Light: Takua has trouble even touching the Mask of Light after he picks it out of the lava, and Tahu uses his mask to shield them from the wave that washes over them. None of them wants to touch it, even when on a surf board. The lava would certainly warp metal and burn muscles even if if didn't melt anyone instantly.

Spoiler alert: Takua was really an Av-Matoran. :P

Well, Vakama once dived into Molten Protodermis and emerged just fine, and Jaller once considered entering the lava to recover the Ignika. I'd say they have a temporary resistance to lava/molten Protodermis. Of course, We don't know if there are actual differences between Matoran and Toa armor.
