  1. Where do you live? I'm currently attending one of the top five IT programs in the country, and we're not doing any programming, because there are many other jobs in the IT sector that don't require that specific knowledge - at least in this area. The program's rate of employment upon graduation is 98 percent, BTW.

  2. I figure the showrunners of Lost realized early on that short of an FAQ session, there was no way to answer every single question.

That's because they were winging it the whole time. There was a very simple way to make sure that they actually had answers to all the mysteries in the show: they should have had a darn story bible and planned things out from the beginning.

I can speak to the effectiveness of this. James Roberts planned out literally all of the twists in Transformers: More Than Meets the Eye from the start. And apart from one controversial reveal that involved a whole bunch of red herrings, every single twist was received very positively, and many of them were outright predicted by fans because of all the subtle foreshadowing - including one twist involving the backstory of a character that was planned but didn't even make the final cut.

  3. There's no reason to feel exploited by Bumblebee. It was made by an actual fan of transformers, and did well enough at the box office that Michael Bay is never going to be allowed to touch the brand again. Yes, Paramount executives are friggin' morons that will probably find a way to screw their new golden goose - but that's par for the course in Hollywood.

Like, seriously, Spiderverse was fantastic DESPITE Sony executives, not because of them. Tom Rothman, Avi Arad, and Amy Pascal are all morons (and in the latter case, a racist moron). The movie was good because the directors attached to it are the modern day Midas: everything they touch turns to solid gold, no matter how bottom-of-the-barrel the concept sounds.

  4. Hah, that's interesting re: Maryland. Meanwhile my state, Tennessee, was so divided over secession that people wanted right back into the Union as soon as the war was over. It seems to have rubbed off on my town at least (thankfully), because its not nearly as "deep south" as a lot of the surrounding area. (Our popular, longtime mayor immediately declared he would officiate gay marriages as soon as the SCOTUS ruling happened.)

  5. One hundred percent with you about this. Well, maybe Spiderman doesn't need to go to a another planet to get the symbiote - because he just did that in the new Avengers movie - but everything else you've said is right on point. More importantly, since you didn't go see the movie, you are not partially responsible for ensuring the sequel, which the producers have already indicated is going be doing a *gags* PG-13 sympathetic take on Carnage. You know, the symbiote wearer whose sole gimmick is that he's such a bad dude that he makes Venom look lawful good in comparison, and pushes Spiderman to the point that he's willing to team up with Venom (who previously tried to ruin his entire life) just to take down the ******.

  6. It's not meaningless if used the way it originally was (along with Gary Stu): to describe a poorly written character in a fanfiction that is often an author-insert. Being an author insert is the relevant part, not that the character is overpowered and/or poorly written, because those are a dime a dozen in fanfiction.

Applying the term to professional productions is really silly though - and doubly so in the case of a property like DragonbalZ, which is the series about characters with powers levels OVER 9000!!!!

  7. Gimping the mainline pokemon series in order to facilitate a crossover with Pokemon GO is the absolute lamest thing they could do with the series, so I'm hoping the leaks are fake. Unfortunately, the fact that it's a negative leak makes it more likely to be true - most of the fake leaks people come up with always depict a rosy future where Nintendo does literally everything the fans want them to.

  8. It still confounds me that this set is real. Like, seriously, a whole bunch of people had to sign off on selling this thing for 40 dollars. Even if its technically based on a scene from the movie, selling an incomplete vehicle is still really stupid. It's like if they made a hundred dollar set of Grievous's flagship from Episode 3, except it was only the front half that broke off and Anakin landed on Coruscant.

  9.

I was hoping for them to go all in with the anti-establishment in this one.  Rey, Finn, and Poe all learn that the "good guys" aren't exactly 100% good.  I was hoping that when Kylo Ren says "join me", Rey says, "alright, let's do it.  Let's make a better galaxy."

Then we have our protagonists work together to dismantle a system that has left the galaxy at war for 75 years, fighting against both General Hux and General Leia with the goal of not having good triumph over evil, but of balance between the two.  It would be a war against the star wars.

But maybe in the next trilogy...

But Kylo Ren killed his father and was totally cool with the destruction of an entire solar system full of billions of lifeforms. What has the Resistance done that compares to those monstrous actions? You might as well say that Luke should have taken up Vader's offer too.

  10. Gadunka is another so bad it's good name. It's no wonder he became a meme.

So long as we're talking "so dumb it's good", I wholeheartedly second Mukau.  Heck, I'll even put Kalmah in there, since he's basically asking to be turned into calamari.

All the Barraki were seemingly destined to be turned into their spirit animal, with the possible exception of Pridak (though that could be another Chirox case, where it's based off a scientific classification instead. Can anyone help me out with this?)
