  1. I don't know; I felt the Power Miners monsters were better. For one thing, they weren't just one color all over, having crystal veins which made them more unique. Secondly, they weren't all the same. You had three scales: the tiny monsters which were more pests than threats, the mid-size monsters which were more posable than the fairly-static Rock Raiders Rock Monsters, and of course the Crystal King. And thirdly, they were a lot easier to modify, with the smaller monsters able to use minifig tools and the larger monsters having studs on top (I made a MOC using the mid-sized monsters where the Miners had created a "saddle" for them and were luring them with crystals so as to get the monsters to do the heavy-lifting). Not to mention the mostly brick-built Crystal King, who is easy to rebuild to make him larger and more threatening. The Rock Raiders monsters had next to no posability, soulless eyes, and were uniformly a poo-brown. I'd take the Power Miners monsters any day.
  2. In my opinion, the problem isn't that they made the forum less Bionicle-centric. Rather, the problem is that the attempts to diversify have been somewhat half-baked. BZPower has an opportunity to become a prominent LEGO site simply by focusing on story rather than on sets themselves. It already has a more established fan-art and fan-fiction forum than any other LEGO site I know. Could they take this farther? Could BZP have a section for LEGO storyline & theories, rather than keeping that section exclusive to BIONICLE? Obviously diversifying wouldn't bring back the members BZP had in the past: it'll take time to reach that level of activity again, and I think a big obstacle to that is the frequent downtimes that end up making members lose interest. But BZP would have a lot more staying power if the site quit giving top priority to a dead theme that is hardly producing any new content.
  3. I don't really see why people are worried about these. Besides both being well-established European toy companies, Playmobil and Lego are quite different from one another; Playmobil is less about building and more about role-play. I don't collect Playmobil myself, but I have a few Playmobil products, and am happy with their ingenuity and quality. So while others worry about Playmobil "stealing LEGO's ideas", I see it more as Playmobil seeing how well the blind-bag business model worked for LEGO and trying it with their own products. After all, LEGO really just adapted the idea from trading cards, so it's not like they're the first ones to try this method of sales. And regarding folks who dismiss this as an attempt to steal LEGO's thunder, think again. Playmobil has been around for some time, and has always been more of a niche product than LEGO. Playmobil fans are going to flock to these the way LEGO fans flocked to the collectable minifigs, so Playmobil is getting all the business they need.
  4. First of all, this isn't just a revamp of Dino 2010. This theme seems deliberately styled after things like Jurassic Park, whereas Dino 2010 was just a defanged version of Dino Attack. This theme is much better, because it's designed from the ground up as a more ethical Dino theme, rather than a theme of militaristic vehicles with all the weapons removed for some reason. Plus, the Dinos in this theme actually are more realistic than the "mutant" dinos of Dino Attack and Dino 2010.Secondly, LEGO revisits old themes because they continue to be popular long after the theme has been discontinued. With themes like City, the theme remains constantly popular, but with themes like underwater themes, or dinosaur themes, the popularity fluctuates such that such a theme is not able to be released every year. I see nothing wrong with revisiting a theme once that theme's sets become outdated. And LEGO does still break new ground in themes; just look at Ninjago to see how they can continue to create original ideas.
  5. You mean discussing, in the General Discussion forum, the lack of discussion in the General Discussion forum? http://www.bzpower.com/board/public/style_emoticons/default/tounge2.gif
  6. It could still use more of an update, IMO. For one thing, that Glatorian ad could stand to be removed; does it even bring in revenue now that Bionicle's over?
  7. Not only was it a hard game, it was harder than it should've been thanks to numerous glitches. Those kept me from enjoying the game as much as I enjoyed other LEGO software.
  8. It's heartwarming, cute, and funny (with insanely catchy songs). Which episodes have you watched? I can totally understand you getting the impression you got if you only watched the pilot (episodes 1 and 2), as the later episodes are a lot better. But you know, it's also a cartoon. It's not meant to be taken 100% seriously, so if you're looking for high drama, you're looking in the wrong place.
  9. I don't know... of course, if you exclude the limbs, they you're probably right. But when I look at the entire figure, I see the limbs too, and therfore she just doesn't seem as feminine to me. :shrugs:I do agree with you on her mask, though, at least partly. But you said second-most-femine, now I wonder which one's the number one for you... Edit: fixed a typoMy reasoning about the limbs is that they're completely gender neutral-- that is to say, they would look as non-masculine on a male character as they look non-feminine on a female character. They're badly proportioned for either gender, or, for that matter, for a human in general. It's like how if you gave a character four arms it wouldn't be inherently masculine or feminine; it would just make the character look less humanoid. All in all, Kiina's design was far more deliberately feminine in design than any other sets at the time, or, for that matter, than any other canister sets. Pretty much any other canister sets had either a masculine build (Phantoka Pohatu Nuva, Toa Mahri Kongu, etc.), a gender-neutral build (Toa Metru Nokama, Toa Metru Vakama, Toa Inika Jaller), or a non-humanoid build (Visorak Suukorak). Kiina would have too if not for her unique torso structure which tipped the balance towards a more feminine design. Now, you must remember Roodaka, who was probably the most feminine set. She had high-heels, a ponytail, a very female look when it came to her torso design and just her overall appearance. I never considered Kiina all that feminine, but that's just me. And even though Nokama had a clone design, she was thin and wasn't bulky. She looked feminine compared to such sets as Gali Mistika, I suppose. =/Technically, Aanchir specified canister sets. Roodaka is a special case, and the techniques used in her feminine build are harder to pull off in canister-sized sets (just look at the qrossly-disproportionate attempts people have tried in MOCs to see what I mean).
  10. Really? Who has it/what color?Rocka appears to have an 'Atlantis trans green' head as opposed to the old neon lime ones.Rocka has the 2.0 hero head.EDIT: Black Phantom has a recolored iron man head, though! Awesome!I seriously doubt Rocka has the 2.0 hero head; I can't imagine LEGO using the Glatorian head for every hero except one.
  11. Hey guys, realized I hadn't posted here yet. I became an overnight brony like a week ago, same as Aanchir. You can add me to "the list".
  12. See, the issue I see with your idea isn't that it's not feasible. But I think those sort of changes would ruin what made BIONICLE great in the first place. I'd rather LEGO used what they learned from BIONICLE and make something new, than that they radically retool BIONICLE into something that no longer resembled what it once was. In fact, they tried retooling it several times, and yet it never reached the popularity it enjoyed in its prime. So they called it done and started fresh, and I feel that Hero Factory has far more potential than a revived BIONICLE ever would.
  13. What are you talking about? The Batcave is one of the most original of the new sets--I should know, having had the original. The new Batcave is more cartoony (not necessarily a bad thing), more colorful (probably a good thing, seeing as the lack of color has been cited as a flaw of the original line which may have helped lead to its demise), and it has a MOLE TANK. Even the most clone-ish of the new sets, the Batwing set, is fairly different from the original, primarily by virtue of being smaller. I did like the original Batman sets, but they didn't last very long. Hopefully by diversifying to a wider range of heroes, this line can last long enough to deliver on some of the more obscure villains from the video games.I'm excited for this new theme: it's different, sure, but that doesn't necessarily have to be a bad thing.
  14. And I'm confident that's not going to happen. There are plenty of things showing up in the TV series that will probably be held until summer. The two biggest sets are more likely to just be held until spring, like some of this year's spinner sets.LEGO rarely splits a wave to last a full year unless the theme is on its last legs (notice how this happened for Atlantis and Power Miners only in their last years), and even when they do it's rarely done globally.
  15. In response to both of these, the company probably doesn't even print a single one of these until they have a sale. Make-to-order publishers are a product of advanced technology, whereby a company no longer needs to produce a quality product to ensure a profit. Basically, because they got the writing in these books for free (courtesy of the internet), they can make a profit on each individual sale rather than having to do large print runs to maintain inventory. Thus it doesn't matter if only a single person inadvertantly purchases a single book: Books LLC still makes a profit on their negligible investment. Sad, but true.
  16. Neither's gay marriage. Being illegal doesn't make it wrong.- TiliusPlus, it's not like Lego or Scholastic will earn anything from them. Brutal, cold, hard fact: nobody wants to buy them.-DovydasI still think they would prefer to go the eBook route. As far as I know, it costs very little to offer eBooks for sale (seeing as there are technically no production costs besides the one-time process of converting the book to an electronic format), and thus even if very few people bought the books, Scholastic would still make a profit.
  17. A brand new story (now is the perfect time to do it) and new sets of both old and new characters.Having just jumped into the My Little Pony fandom, I've noticed an issue Hasbro had with that line that could become an issue with BIONICLE. For the most recent iteration of MLP, only one character could be carried over from the original toys because the trademarks on the names of the other "originals" had expired. I've never been an expert on copyright and trademark law, but apparently unlike copyrights, trademarks must be continually used, lest they expire and become available for any other company or individual to claim. In most jurisdictions, according to Wikipedia, the time until expiration for an inactive trademark is five years. So unless BIONICLE comes back by 2015, it could be impossible for old characters to return if it were revived at a later date.
  18. I voted no, assuming that the topic refers to posting them online, free for anyone to read. Those books were written with intent to sell, and the investments of fans who bought the books would be wasted if the content were available for free. But there's an easy remedy for fans who never got a chance to buy the books: Scholastic should sell them as eBooks for all the major platforms. That way fans could catch up on old story, and Scholastic and LEGO would still get their money's worth.
  19. Ninja'd! :PNow that Bionicle's no longer running, Lego can barely afford to keep anything else running! no, lego still get all the money they need from other themes, truth is DbM was too expensive and people for some reason assumed LU wasn't a good game (witch was wrong because it's epic win even though F2P was fail)I also have a theory. A while back there was a devilment branch of lego called "LEGO Software" (remember that any one?) and apparently the games were doing great but lego wanted to focus on the actual sets more then the games so they stooped production. This could be happening again.LU I understand, but two such announcements has got to ring alarm bells! Then again I suppose November is the month of announcements. You'll remember the announcement to end Bionicle was made in November. What, is the month of my birthday the kiss of death to all good Lego innovations?Anyway, it seems that Lego realizes nobody wants to pay a premium for a fancy instruction booklet and box. I can go with that; it was smarter than canceling Bionicle. But the "one thing after another" thing is getting people.Let's just put it this way - Lego has had a ton of good ideas lately, like the new building system, Hero Recon Team, Lego Universe, and so on. But now it's time to pare back the ideas that didn't work and try some new ones. One of the first new ones should be about what to do with the LDD program - eithier to try to phase it out or to come up with a purchasing system for the program that works. Without making Lego lose money. They've confirmed that they're not phasing out LDD, and I'm glad -- I never used it for Design by Me, but I and many other AFOLs get good use out of Extended Mode.
  20. If you read the email, they get a refund. And playing offline doesn't work well for a game designed from the ground up to be done online.
  21. I voted other. I'm on BZP because I see the site as being in a transitional period. No other LEGO fansite has as much emphasis on the storylines of themes or non-MOC creative endeavors. I think that by diversifying beyond BIONICLE, BZP can fill this important niche.
  22. How does being a creationist make it so you can't believe dinosaurs have feathers? We've had pretty good fossils that suggest dinos had feathers, and I don't see how dinosaurs are required to be bald for God to have created them. http://www.bzpower.com/board/public/style_emoticons/default/tounge2.gifAgain, I don't mind the lack of feathers seeing as I prefer LEGO figures without their textures being too complex. The only way I can see them doing feathers would be to add a "lumpier" surface texture to feathered areas, and I think that would take away from the simple elegance of the new Dino figs.
  23. Many followed the story outside of the comics through web serials, books and movies. It was cancelled because the story was too deep and it would have been hard for new fans to join in, say, 2008, and easily figure out the story. That's why it was cancelled, because it wasn't gaining many new fans. The story was kept alive pretty much because Greg F wanted to keep it alive for all the fans who had followed the story up until that point.it was not gaining new fans because it simply was not popular. Also, hardly anybody followed the story outside the comics. after 2007, Bioniclestory.com was not even mentioned on the main site, movie sales were average at best, and books sales dropped by who knows how many every year. The story has nothing to do with any of this.On the contrary, it was not popular because very little of it made any sense without understanding the story. And the story didn't make sense except after having read previous story. Hardly anybody followed the story outside the comics? Perhaps, but if so only because it was so much harder to follow. That would explain why both set sales and book sales continued to fall as time went on. If you don't follow the story, Bionicle is nothing more than a buildable action figure line, and Hero Factory is a lot better at that than Bionicle was.
  24. It'd be a little small as LEGO parts go (the 1/2m bushing would be comparable in size, I guess), but I suppose it'd have to be to do what you want it to. Have you checked to make sure that it extends the head connection enough to accommodate each of those "masks"?As a side note, a similarly-useful piece would be one that could adapt the 2.0 hero head connection to accept masks fitted to the Glatorian head piece. Would it be possible for you to do a mockup of such a part?
