    Movie!

Aanchir and I went and watched The Golden Compass yesterday with a couple of friends. If you want my opinion, I say it's definitely worth watching. I only read the book (and its two sequels) at the beginning of this week, but that in no way lessened my liking of the movie. It managed to stay relatively true to the book while glancing over some of the touchy religious subjects and rearranging things to better fit it to the medium of film. In addition, the acting was good and the characters were true to form, with the possible exception of Pantalaimon, whose lines seemed thrown in without much thought. All in all, a good movie.
  3. Three mistakes in this, other than that you defined gimmicks so broadly that pretty much all of Bionicle is considered gimmicks. 1: "Bulb gears" were used in '02 on the Boxor, and in '03 on the Ussanui. They were NOT new for '05, though '05's were the most gimmicky, what with the spinny staves. 2: Your comment on the Exo-Toa's launcher makes it seem like they originated in it--- that was their first and last occurance in Bionicle, but they originated in Cyber-Slam (known as Competition outside the US) and had been in other Lego themes before they showed their face in Bionicle. 3: What about playsets? They were filled with gimmicks, such as the return of the Blunt Shooters and LOTS of glow-in-the-dark. They have become too large of a part of Bionicle to be skipped over like that.

    Downfall

I just read it. It's easily the best book GregF has written so far. It plays on one's emotions in such a way that by the end, one feels exactly like Turaga Nuju does when all is said and done. Long live Mata Nui
  5. I just bought and read it this morning. Awesome book.
  6. Why are you so awesome? Why have you neglected your blog? Why haven't you read the last Harry Potter book yet?
  7. Depends on how interesting they are. Minor things don't spark my interest, but if there's any major things, i.e. things you can only witness once or twice in a lifetime, I'm all for it.
  8. Almost like me, but... Corn+Peas=Meh... Baked Potato=No. Casserole+Cauliflower: DEFINITE NO. Cranberries= On their own, no. In ambrosia salad, mebbe. But in Cranberry Sauce or Cranberry Juice, HECK YES! Plus... Apple Cider=Total win. Maybe it's not as much like yours as I thought it would be. Ah well, we both like pie.
  9. http://www.majhost.com/gallery/Lyichir/Random/..._life_comic.jpg I was bored, and this is what I came up with. Go ahead, sue me.
  10. Binky inspired Bionicle set. If that happens, it may be the most win thing I have ever known. You go, Bink.
  11. Does your book about masks include Kanohi? Your locker is bigger than mine....
  12. We just went. We got Vezon & Fenrakk, the Lava Chamber Gate, and Inika Hahli and Nuparu. All for a little over fifty dollars. That's right. Almost half price. Win.
  13. Would that be the Michael Scott bobblehead? I saw that there, but we didn't get one.
  14. Since Aanchir's not gonna blog about it... Two weeks ago, our family went to a convention for fans of the show "The Office", up in Scranton, PA! We were lucky to have made reservations early this summer (much of our family lives up there), because it was packed! And because one of our great-aunts died three days earlier, so we got to attend the funeral. But the convention helped to brighten our mood. We got to see The Scrantones (the band that plays the music for the opening credits of the show) play, and we managed to sneak into a Q&A session with various actors from the show. (It required a paid pass to get in, but we didn't have one. Luckily, some friends of ours who live up there did, and managed to sneak us in.) We managed to get some cool "The Office" and Scranton merchandise, too. My blog needs comments badly, so I'm accepting (actually begging for) questions, comments, etc. If you're a fan of the show or just want to know more about my experience there, ask away!
  15. I know. I am SO going. P.S.: That quote is by Douglas Adams.
  16. Tricky... Those are my two favorites. It's a tough call---Onewa's good for looks, but I think Nuju would be better for pieces.

    Wait...

Happy birthday, Lady K! er... I mean happy 2-year... Avohkii... spinny... anniversary... thing... that isn't your birthday.
  18. Yayz for a new tutorial! I'll have to see if this will help me find a style that suits me.... I did a pretty good Bionicle artwork once, but don't want to continue with that style because it doesn't convey emotion well enough.
  19. Well, I think Kopaka DOES have light bley limbs, believe it or not. And I think the Piraka limbs work great. He's probably the best of the bunch. And Pohatu's mask isn't that much like a vahi.... The problem is that they upped the resemblance by making it orange. ORANGE! But atleast he has, like, TWO new pieces in that color. I just hope you Keetorange-haters are happy. And Lewa? Don't even get me started. You're right, he SHOULD have wings, and I'm not too fond of his mask, either. (lime with a visor is too much like Lesovikk for my liking) I don't even like his sword, which I think is too jagged and un-Lewalike. At least the small sets are cool.... These are okay sets, but not very good Toa Nuva.
  20. Hmmm.... What ever happened to Etcetere?

    He was a cool guy...

    News And Notes

Great news, Greg! One question-- do you know anything about the production of the other movies? You know, Exo-Force, Castle, and the like?

    My New Look

My blog's new name and look is from the Mike Oldfield album The Songs of Distant Earth. This album is in turn based on the works of Arthur C. Clarke, most specifically the book The Songs of Distant Earth. So any of you who were wondering can rest easy now. In addition, I don't like it as my blog theme either. I will probably change it at some point to being a less themed, more personal blog, or a blog themed after a story of mine called Surreal Life. Don't count on the second one, though, as this story never has gotten, and likely never will get past the character sketch and concept stage.
  23. Look at the first entry in my blog. It's a being from an abandoned story of mine.

    1. Scanty Demon

      Scanty Demon

It really shows how much you've changed.

  24. 3, because I barely know who you are, or what you have done, but I still recognize you when I see you.
