  1. It's like there's a lot of diversity in the Tolkien world, but it's all different races. Hobbits and dwarfs, ext, and there's definitely some assumptions characters all have of the other races, like the squabbling between dwarfs and elves. And he even had different classes or races of men, like how Aragorn was so much better than the common guy from Gondor, ext. But Tolkien just made it so they all have the same skin tones. You're right, there's really no reason to limit the choices, and now I'd be intrigued to see a more diverse showing of middle earth. (Even if I have other reservations about this series, but I'll try not to judge it when its still in the concept stage.)

  2. Interesting idea. Some of my thoughts. (Because OMG now I'm putting thought into this.)

The current game idea sounds like a lot of the decision making will be thru PM, which makes the game topics boring. (It's one reason I was never super fond of the Hitmen games I played.) What if you made players vote on who's limb they were swapping, on a first come first serve basis. But you keep the species of the players a secret... and you only tell them the type of limb they're getting privately through PM. So they player will only know the species of another player after they've taken a limb from them.

And perhaps you don't publicly specify which arm / leg you're taking, so you have a random option of left or right. That way, if Person A took an arm from Person B, then they would have an A arm and a B arm, and if Person C took an arm the next turn, they wouldn't know if which arm they were getting, thus giving them a false impression of A's race if they get a B arm.

Then you could have challenges that could hint towards a specific character's race if they win. Or maybe mystery limbs for each species, like a tail or a horn or a third arm. Or that having two or three royal limbs starts to poison the user, making it important to diversify and not just continuing to swap with the Royals. And is there a way you could protest a swap?

  3. It basically comes down to the stylistic differences between a Toa designs and a fig design, since the Toa use different colors for the legs and feet, whereas those are a single piece on the figs. So you'd either need a dual mold or detailed leg printing, which I'm personally not interested in.

My reasoning behind this is that I didn't want the legs to be in the secondary color, because that would overpower the primary color on the fig, and I want the primary color to be strongest. Additionally, the color of the hips give a divide between the legs and torso. That said, I only used that design on Tahu and Pohatu on my IRL figs, I was just using the same consistent theme in the mock up.

And that's also something that people could easily modify on their own; if people could agree on the "mask" and torso elements, then they'd be free to stylize the rest of the fig as they'd like. Either way, I'm not tied down to any design yet. I supposed you could print primary colored feet on secondary colored legs (and maybe add in some details to the legs to make them more technic) but that's just adding another (two?) costly printed piece(s) to the mix.

  4. And I was definitely struck by the number of Ninjago callbacks in it — even to the Skullkins, who are rarely addressed by name even in the TV show!

Gotta be honest, it took me a while to catch that lyric, since I thought he was saying "Listen to my skull can sing" which I thought was a weird saying but I let it slide. He does reference skeletons a couple of other times, and I think he was leading a skeleton army in the flashback in the movie.

  5. If they make it into a live action feature, I will totally go about spoiling the best bits, which totally outshined the usual "body swapping" hijinks.

Although, while it was a great moving with an amazing story, I didn't feel like the animation was that much better in quality compared to some of the other anime I've seen. But still, I do not see how they could remake it in live action and still have the same feel. :shrugs:
