  1. Dang, looks like one of all the pods from the 10 small Slizers \ Throwbots (although a few don't look matched up). Although just at a glance it looks like those might just be the discs that came with the sets. From a MOC standpoint, pretty much the more useless pieces from the Slizers, but hey that means nothing to collectors.

I kinda feel bad because I trashed a lot of my old canisters last summer to make space, but generally there doesn't seem to be much of a demand beyond the occasional crazy collector. ;) Still, nice find, I'll be interested to see what you're able to do with these!

  2. Spoiler: Avengers be doin' some avenging. Maybe, most likely.

I've definitely noticed a difference between seeing a movie opening night, opening weekend, and then like two weeks later; the crowds are far more energetic the earlier into the run, generally. (Although for Infinity wars, some guy took the seat next to me right before the movie began and proceeded to fall asleep and snore through most of the movie, which dampened the experience a bit.)

Luckily for me, I was able to get advanced tickets for Endgame pretty easily, and the showing hasn't even sold out yet, so at least over here there's not a mad rush to get to the theaters.

  3. Clearly the Sis-Star world dislikes CCBS; all those large scale figures and they're all sculpture based instead of using proper ball joints. So sad.

(The Dad's probably hording his Bionicle collection in the attic where the kids can't get to it.)

  4. I vaguely recall an old topic about characters in the background of the instructions, although I can't remember if it was for the Glatorian, or if both of those were noticed. However, considering the obsessive dedication of fans back in the day, I'd think that someone probably called it out. :P

Looking back, it doesn't look like the instructions for Tarix or Gresh had anything of interest in the background. The Skrall does have some sort of scorpion shape at the top of the stairs in the background, and it looks like there's some sort of snake in the sand behind the Vorox, so maybe the artists were trying to come up with some strange elemental enemies to use for Bara Magna, and for fire and ice they ended up being humanoids.

Still, cool stuff, nothing I'd personally noticed on my own.

  5. Updated with the Onua Uniters, Kurahk, and Thok mosaics. Oh, and also a summery of the massive undertaking we did for the Lenticular Toa mosaics!

So far the only years we haven't had a colab mosaic of some sort is 2014 and 2017, with 2016 being an insane year. (Although the last couple of years have been smaller designs between CF and me.) The two of us do have something planned for 2019 too, so I'll have to update this blog post again eventually.

  6. We're also the only country to crash a Mars Rover because we couldn't covert from imperial to SI.

Don't get me wrong, I still can't accurately judge measurements in metric because I'm so used to the US standard. But if you can't divide 10 by 3, then you just never learned fractions.

(Also, for the record, neither Myanmar nor Liberia have yet reached the moon, as far as I can tell.)

  7. Take this for what you will, but in the early 2000s my understanding of Singapore was that it was a very strict country where you could get fined for chewing gum. (Mostly because my household was very anti-gum and was all "Hey Singapore knows what up!") Nowadays I know some geography stats and such, but can't say I really know much about the culture of the place. I'm not quite into romantic comedies but I'm considering checking out this movie, although I admit I was waiting to see what you had to say about it first. :P (Never mind, I saw it today, it was a good movie.)

I also remember back in the day there was another BZPer from Singapore who was really excited to see it featured in PotC III.

  8. "Turaga, maybe it's just from me living in this volcano for so long, but for a few years didn't I used to be called Jala? But then you changed my name to Jaller and told me that's how it always was, and it's just kind of confusing. When did I initially change it, why did I do it, and why the sudden need to change it back and then forget it ever happened? Hewkii and Macku said they had similar experiences."

"Look, don't think too hard about the Naming Day stuff; just be glad you'll eventually get made into a named set without cultural appropriating. Now, who's up for a fun game of Kolhii?"

  9. Heh, added you, even though there’s little likelihood that we’ll play the game in the same area to actually take advantage of the whole trading thing.

I believe the main reason this took so long is because Niantic, the ones behind the game, are a bit paranoid and very slow when it comes to development. They were a little more bold in Ingress, Pokémon Go’s precursor. That game has a lot more interactivity between players, including battles and messaging and a type of trading. And people in that game have totally abused the system, either by being mean spirited or filling it with spambots. (I mean, I’ve heard stories of players who’ve been bullied to the point where they just stopped playing the game.) And since Pokémon Go is aimed at a younger audience, I have a feeling they wanted to make sure that none of the nastiness that they’ve encountered in their previous game could appear, which is why the game initially had little player interaction. (That’s not to say that Ingress hasn’t created some awesome communities, but it’s just way easier to abuse things.)

While the game certainly isn’t as big as it was two years ago, I’m still encountering wandering groups in downtown Portland that are tackling raids almost daily. As a solo player, it’s been easy to join up with a big group for a Legendary raid, but now I’m kind of stuck on this whole friend / trading update, because I don’t play regularly with anybody. (And my co-workers who had played the game have long since given up.) Still, I’ll take whatever online friend code I can. :P
