We all have one thing in common, being our enjoyment of Bionicle. I’d love to get to know some of you better, and hear your other interests. My main hobby is making video essays- which can be a blast, but equally tiring at times. My favorite part of that is making the thumbnails, because I draw them in MS Paint. It gives me a reason and motivation to actually express my artistic side more. I also quite enjoy playing video games, as I’m sure most people do, and I’ve recently gotten into playing my 3DS more. What do you all enjoy doing outside of the Lego space?

I enjoy reading, writing, studying world history, and chess. I have always wanted to make video essays but I just do not have the discipline. I settle for making poorly-edited TikToks.

I enjoy nostalgic cartoons. The one I have most recently gotten back into is Code Lyoko.

Cool to hear more about peoples' creativity and intellect :)

As for me, I was recently introduced to Baldur's Gate 3, and because I have very little ability to self-moderate when it comes to video games, have just completed my 4th play through. I think I'm done for a while now 😅

Besides that, I enjoy:

  • Trying out new recipes (I've found Binging with Babish on YT to be great fun)
  • My kitten plays fetch! We try to do that for a stretch every day!
  • I do enjoy reading, and after I finish the Ender's Game saga, I really want to tackle more of Brandon Sanderson's Cosmere universe.
  • Dabble in knitting, comes and goes in waves. Simple but functional things like sweaters, hats, a few scarves, and fingerless gloves, maybe mittens. I have no patience for knitting individual fingers.
  • Enjoy board games and card games, although most of the game time has recently been taken up by DnD campaigns with friends/family, which is also fun and very immersive.

I highly recommend at least trying it out, it can be somewhat therapeutic. It doesn’t require much discipline either from my experience, the most I ever have to do is get myself to actually do them since I’m sticking to a schedule. Cartoons are a blast, I’ve been binging shows I wasn’t able to watch when I was younger, like Adventure Time or Over the Garden Wall. Right now I’m watching Regular Show.

I watched Binging with Babish for a little while, very fun! I never have the energy to cook, so can’t say I’ve tried any of their recipes. Whenever I’m looking to watch something food related nowadays, my go to-s are Ericsurf6 and Food Theory. I’ve kind of wanted to get back into reading, but it feels like a chore when I do. If I ever end up reading anything I’m doing a deep dive into some random show’s lore on wiki 😂 honestly ridiculously solid hobbies/pastimes you got there. I’ve really been needing to diversify what I do each day.

I enjoy reading, watching YouTube, listening to music, and playing games. My music listening tastes are getting deeper towards Essenger, Cryoshell, The All-American Rejects, and Daughtry. I also enjoy the Bionicle movie trilogy, which a lot of people know about, and also Zoids, which you might not have heard of.

Lately (as in since December lol) I've been getting back into reading, though I've only been reading Star Wars novels. I'm slowly making my way through the post-ROTJ EW books. So far, I'd have to say my favorites have been the Thrawn trilogy and The Truce at Bakura.

Some other things I'm into are obviously Star Wars, anime (although I haven't been watching it much lately), hockey, some light gaming, and music. Pretty much all I listen to is metal. I also play bass and a little guitar, however I'm not too good at either lol. I'd like to start posting covers online someday, once I work up enough courage and skill.

I listen to 80s/90s rock/pop for the most part. Love some more classic tunes like Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass as well, though. The Bionicle movies are alright, I enjoyed watching them but there are plenty of other things I’d rather watch.

I used to really enjoy the Star Wars books, I remember in particular enjoying The Force Unleashed. I’m not really into Star Wars anymore, though. I’m not super into sports either, but I’ve got a buddy who I enjoy watching hockey and soccer with every once in awhile. I’ve had a guitar for years, but never learned to play. It’s something I’ve been meaning to make time for.

Ooh, such fun to hear of others’ endeavors! Thanks for starting this!

As for me, not much new except one or two things- the new favorite hobby being eating-eating nearly every glorious day! With my family! So grateful! And the other new one(s) being housekeeping/laundry/cleaning the new big home (which my mom did entirely before in our old home life, and for which we all hugely owe her! ). I have only accidentally laundered one (1) highly valuable non washable heirloom item so far-it survived! 😆 Learning to do from wheelchair involves lots of rolling carts for dish &  clothes drawer delivery, haha! It takes at least three swag wagons and magically transforming my wheelchair into a snail speed cleaning cart 😂) and learning to cook from a wheelchair instead of in tall chairs like prior years-after dragging drills about the kitchen for months on end trying to set up a disabled kitchen from stuff I found in the basement. Terribly happy with it though outsider may laugh. So much easier than the struggle of my former card-table countertop!

And just the same old dear hobby things I always obsess over gleefully!
My true love-drawing, pencil portraits.

-Painting acrylics over rough sketches occasionally, but I count the hours and am a shocking snailspeed indeed!

-Sewing! By hand and machine, though machine sewing has become more challenging with limited mobility. Grateful to say my footpedal broke, leading to the discovery of the push-to-start sew button!

-Cooking and baking! Figuring out family dinner serving with nutrition calculations (medically complex situation) and how to pack work brunch bag plates for my mom effectively.  And now actually being allowed to eat some of the extra yummy things (!CARBS!❤️) has made it much more fun!

-Photography if that counts, from an old shattered iPhone ? 😂

-Blogging here, hopefully again regularly, if life and the site staff allow me!

-Decorating! Making lots of seasonal misfit decors for my mom’s new home.

I am basically illiterate when it comes to book reading, at this point-with inability to focus (and prior major struggle), so sometimes listen to audiobooks in between mostly mindless music box covers while creating things. Happy to hear historical/classic children’s books or religious readings. I struggle to choose listen content, not knowing what exists.

I find actively watching TV/video things without using the hands intolerable, but have a soft spot for a few fine fantasy films. Thanks to my birthday, brother’s visit and free trials, tis a grand week of Studio Ghibli novelties! Incredibly grateful!

I dabble in classical guitar

I enjoy gaming on my PS4

I really enjoy reading a heavy fiction novel/series (LotR, Star wars Legends, Redwall, etc)

I also spend time building lego construction vehicles out of spare parts with my son. He gives me a list of pieces he needs, I hunt them down and he constructs them (he's 4).

Any DVDs in particular? I tried collecting DVDs for a short while (specifically movies I like) but it didn’t really pan out.

The Bionicle movies and Hero Factory DVDs, LEGO Star Wars specials

I kept seeing Clutch powers trailers whenever I booted up the legend reborn DVD so I may try getting that one for my collection as well :D

Good selection haha. I was originally going to get all of the Bionicle movies, but I don’t care for them other than the first one. The Hero Factory Show was pretty good, and so were the LSW specials. Clutch Powers is my favorite of the bunch, definitely worth it (you can find Clutch Powers on DVD super cheap, along with pretty much everything you listed)

I have 200+ DVDs. They are the ideal form of digital media.

I definitely agree, I’m just at a point in my life where I don’t watch movies or television all that often, and on the off chance I do, I don’t want to have to get a physical disc out and put it in my Xbox. I’m more of a physical enjoyer when it comes to video games.

My hobbies are mostly book-oriented, so reading, writing (this is something I actually do on a semi-professional basis) and collecting books and comics, superhero and otherwise, the former mostly those published by DC. Recently, I also recently started a collection of Euro coins, which I hope to get organized somewhere in the near future.

I have gotten into Warhammer 40k. I enjoy the making of miniatures due to the Lore behind these characters I'm making. I think that's one reason Bionicle was so fun to build. When making a miniature, you know the character your making is a character with its own world and history. A really nice thing Warhammer has going for it is the flexibility to do custom design with the models, while still fitting in the lore. I've found that Warhammer 40k helps fill that void that Lego's cancelation of Bionicle left.

I’m really into filming vlogs and making video essays for my YouTube channel, and I love it. Try using screen recording software to grab gameplay or visuals for your vids.

I found out about this tool called Movavi Screen Recorder, and it seems pretty dope for snagging high-quality video and audio. It’s super easy to use, perfect for getting footage for your essays or gaming clips.

That’s awesome! I wish I could still enjoy books like I used to, I’ve been meaning to read Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. I used to dabble in writing poetry and short stories, it was fun but I could never quite meet the standard I wanted to. Have you read anything good lately?

I also used to collect coins, particularly foreign! They’re a lot of fun, some of my favorites are the Canadian pennies since they don’t make them anymore.

I’ve always been fascinated with retro tech! I tried collecting some when I was younger, you can imagine how well that went for somebody without income haha. I’ve got some bangers though, the NES Deluxe Set, the Gameboy, Gameboy Micro. I’m looking to hopefully get a Virtual Boy, someday.

YouTube is such a great way to express creativity, I’m glad you enjoy it! I still enjoy it a ton, my one hurdle is that I hate editing the audio haha. I use OBS to record my footage, and I have a Live Gamer Mini capture card for when I need footage from my consoles :)

I've been slowly going through the collected short stories of Kurt Vonnegut - satirical Sci-Fi with a tinge of social commentary. If you have Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde on your radar, you might also like Bram Stoker's Dracula or the works of Edgar Allan Poe. If you're partial to gothic horror may I lasso recommend Shirley Jackson or Mary Shelley.

I like euro coins, not just because they're easy to collect (I'm European), but also because of variety - every Eurozone country has its own variant of the coins, the designs reflect a little of the national heritage.

Ooh Dracula! I’m not much of a horror guy, but I’ve wanted to read some of the older stuff for awhile. Also love Edgar Allen Poe, but in all fairness I’ve only read what they had us back in high school. I might check those others out you recommend sometime!

Oh dang that’s cool, I didn’t know EVERY European country had its own coins. I knew there were a ton of different ones, but that’s neat. We don’t have a whole lot of variance here in the US, it’s really just the older stuff that’s cool. Iirc, we used to have a three cent piece around the 1800s.

Well, not every european country has euros, that's why I said every EUROZONE country (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eurozone). Some countries in the European Union are also in the eurozone and use euros, some aren't and use their own currency (Hungary, Czechia etc.), some are part of the eurozone but not of the EU (San Marino, Andorra, Vatican City, Monaco) and some use euros even though they are neither in the EU nor the Eurozone (Montenegro and Kosovo). It's complicated, I know, the EU is a real organizational clusterf*ck. The euros themselves are practically the same, the only difference is the obverse side - the heads.

Another interesting tidbit about euros: some euro variants have different designs on the obverse side of all of the different denominations (1 cent, 2 cent, 5 cent, 10 cent, 20 cent, 50 cent, 1 euro, 2 euro) while for others, the country just slapped the same design on all of them (looking at you Finland, Ireland, the Baltics and Benelux).

Oh gotcha, I wasn’t sure if Eurozone was its own thing or just another way of saying Europe haha. That makes more sense.

Y’all have two cent pieces? I don’t think I’ve seen those before, that’s pretty neat. Been awhile since I’ve actually looked into foreign coins or anything like that.

Can’t quite claim these as real hobbies, but am grateful for the relatively new additions to my life of:

Sleeping!

The years on end of only 1-4hrs of slumber is at last over. Thanks to Calms Forte tablets x3 and 50+mg melatonin-(as per melatonin alone made basically no difference.)  Was reminded out of the blue of the CF tabs, young insomniac Mush used to get 12hrs/night on those in the olden days. Grateful to be able to take them again given the severe food allergies’ end!  What a luxury to have an almost sleep schedule, an old person sleep schedule of 7-8pm to 4 or 5 am XD. And bonus naps which were impossible prior. I feel human, haha!
And
Physical activity!
The treat of getting to play-swing! Tis The only activity I have discovered so far that doesn’t worsen the joint/muscle/nerve/bone pain and weakness. ️Nice with music and audiobooks. I usually swing 45minutes in the morning, then 45-1hr after dinner(unfortunately currently the only meal I’m eating for symptom management, not ideal but presently effective) this has been the only way I’m able to have blood sugar in the “acceptable” ranges and not hyperglycemically fall asleep after eating. And tis such fun, haha! I don’t get why adult playgrounds aren’t more prevalent. Very grateful my mom built it, we almost finished painting it but haven’t had time yet.

That's great to hear about the swinging and the sleep. Sleep is something I take seriously.

The latest hobby I've been getting into is litter picking. I got tired of always seeing trash on my walks, so I've started taking gloves and trash bags with me and doing some cleaning up. It feels surprisingly good, gets in a little bit of light physical activity, and does something positive for my local community. In the future I'd like to see about joining up with others to accomplish even more.

Oh my goodness, I’ve never actually heard/known anyone who personally did that. Aside from mysterious Adopt A Highway signs and seeing inmates/punishment people involuntary doing it. People on our road treat it as a landfill and my mom never has time to clean it. Rock on, and thank you for making the world better!
PS hope you had a happy Thanksgiving!
