Ic: "Eghhhh," was all that Annie could manage to say. This was part of what she wanted, right? what was rightfully as much hers as it was Alaric's, just severed from her all those years ago. But it wasn't all of it, not by a longshot. She fought to stay alive to kill Warren and make things right. She lived to see him die. Her rage couldn't have been quantified, couldn't have been measured. Money wasn't a base for it, it was a wrath against a useless father who didn't care about her. It was about him, not his things.

But those things did have their uses, and no matter how little she liked the concept of materialism she felt a little prouder with the feeling that she would be a defiance against Warren's wishes if she had what he refused her long ago. Her life wouldn't improve but she would sand a little taller knowing she was everything Warren didn't want her to be and more.

"What the ," she finally said. "I'm no hippie, I just........ Having what was supposed to be mine all along....... It would be a start to mending things, maybe. Yeah. And maybe then I wouldn't have to extort Queens cops for dough," she admitted.

"You stay in Queens? Good Lord, I'd want to kill Warren too."

Alaric looked distinctly uncomfortable now, as though he wasn't sure whether to high five Annie at this point, hug her, or take two prison shanks and let the two siblings touch tips.

IC - Tengu: "Back in my day, we played sports to let off steam. Swimming, soccer, and cross-country among others." Oyama nodded at the posters in the classroom. "A healthy blend of training both the body and mind. I suppose those two factors are essential to excellent education.""My sympathies to you for the loss of your Headmaster. I couldn't imagine how difficult it must be for you whom were closest to him. Dr. McCoy did some amazing work for the welfare of young people over the years. It must have broken his heart to hear what happened to the Harmony House children's choir during the New York tragedy." The agent took off his trenchcoat, folding it and holding it under his arm. "The largest group care facility in the New York state specialised in raising and caring for children with and without the X-gene, in an integrated environment. Dr. McCoy helped fundraise for them several times in the past few years. Always a man who cared for the wellbeing of the children.""On that note, I am confused. I presume that both of you are here to help students channel their powers in a more socially friendly manner. Is it standard practice at the school to let students walk about the hallways with loaded guns?"

IC: "Aleks is not a student, so I can't really tell him what to do. Dr McCoy or Alaric could have, seeing as he owned the property and Ric is the headmaster, but they're not here, for varying reasons." Tali sighed. "Besides, a loaded gun is not as big a problem as you think. Keep in mind where you are."

No such thing as destiny.

IC: Tyrone grunted at Tali's words. Given what had put Beast in the medbay in the first place he wasn't so sure that a loaded gun wasn't that big a problem...He'd have to check if the gun Sarah had used was one of Aleks'. Would certainly explain where on earth she'd got it from.

"If we could move past the behaviour of a lone individual not actually affiliated with this school?" He suggested, "I hope you will not think me brusque if I ask if you had a goal in coming here other than to say hello?"

IC - Tengu: The agent raised an eyebrow at Tali's response, his usually neutral expression betraying visible surprise. "I can think of many schools and people that would disagree, Ms. Relo. And I know for a fact that the X-gene only rarely makes one bulletproof.""Absolutely, and I don't mind at all, Mr. Bishop. I will address the gun issue later." Oyama reached into his pocket, and removed a small, ovaloid object, placing it on a desk in front of a whiteboard. "You probably do not know the full details of what happened in New York and Washington.""Let me first tell you about the direct implications the massacre will have on your institute." The ovaloid object hummed and split slightly. A light spilled out, onto the whiteboard, a projection of several images. "Dr. McCoy had been scheduled to be the keynote speaker at President Binder's convention. As we all know, he never appeared. But, to the eyes of the world, the X-Men did."The image cycled to the symbol of the X-Men, zooming out to reveal a handsome dark-haired young man with the uniform of the X-Men. "Samuel Wakowsky.17 years old. Got into Salem international university at 16. Disappeared shortly after his first semester, only to show up in New York, claiming to be an X-Man and trying to keep a mutant who set alight a cop from being arrested. Started to mouth off to the Neo-Avenger and military authorities there." The MACE agent took a flash drive from his pocket. "A transcript of his exchange. We also found an impressive manifesto detailing his admiration of Dr. McCoy and this school. His arguments were close paraphrases of the words of Dr. McCoy and other representatives of your school. And they showed the same absolute disrespect the law displayed by your Russian non-student 'associate.' Wakowsky refused to stand down, threatened the guards on duty and crippled several Marines when they tried to apprehend him. Most of those men and women will never walk again.""I take it from your expressions that you've never met the boy. But you are familiar with the attitude. The belief that those with the X-gene are somehow above the laws of this republic. Unfortunately, the X-Men are an unregistered, fundamentally illegal team. Because of their unregistered status, there is no way to actually deny any allegations made by the press about Wakowsky's supposed membership.""As we speak, everyone from O'Reilly to Oprah is baying for the X-Men team to be shut down, shot down, hauled to prison, or executed for refusing to register. The team's involvement in the Vegas attack certainly hasn't helped." The projector cycled to another image. "The X-Men's relationship with this institute is a public secret. There are millions in America baying for this institute to be shut down, the kids sent home, and the headmaster pilloried before court and Congress." "In fact, there are several civilian organisations planning a mass protest in front of the gates to your school within the next few days." "All this to say, the Institute is in a very precarious position. In the public eye, and in the eyes of the law. MACE has the warrants to conduct a thorough search of this whole property and the discretion to do what needs to be done if met with resistance. It's not a threat. Just the facts.""Fortunately, President Ocalan has no desire or intent to see Dr. McCoy and Professor Xavier's work go down the drain in such a fashion. The Mutant Registration Act is being overhauled and superseded by new legislation. Despite its flaws and unsavoury associations, the Institute's fundamentals are sound; and the lawmakers see it as having an essential role to play in the future."The agent paused the projector. "I'll wait a moment before we move on to part two."

IC: "The Institute has come through worse," Tyrone said, "I've been through the archives. And those people have just as much right to protest as we do to exist, so they're welcome to do whatever they want as long as they stay outside the gates and off private property. Now I feel you're trying to make us feel helpless and in your power, which suggests to me you have some sort of deal or proposition coming up. Skip to it if you would. Flim-flam and politicking won;t earn you much credit round here."

Appearance: http://s1280.beta.photobucket.com/user/catvks/media/Selene_zps25b25868.jpg.html

Weapons: None

Skills: As a vampire, Selena is exceptional at glamouring and is one of the best pickpockets you'll ever meet.

Personality: Selena is somewhat shy, and gets down on herself very easily. She is confused and upset about the death of her creator, so she lashes out at people close to her and gets frustrated when others don't understand. She also struggles with what she is and tries not to hurt humans. Selena is mostly a good person, but tends to lose it quickly and then be really disgusted with herself later.

Weakness: Selena has poor self-control when it comes to blood and is a little unstable.

Bio: Raised in the 1840's, Selena's mother died in childbirth and her father was a drunk with a short temper. When she was seventeen, she was fed upon by a slightly wounded Katherine Callahan. The blood from Katherine's slight wound somehow got into Selena's system, a fact unbeknownst to either of them. Upon her arrival home that same day, Selena's father was very intoxicated and irritable. They got into a heated argument, which ended in Selena's death when their two storied house's wooden deck gave way under her feet. Her father then panicked and dumped her body in nearby woods. Now a vampire, Selena has never stayed in one place for very long.

Ic: Annie shook her head a little. "Used to live there. After I graduated from a Brooklyn high school when I was fifteen I kept leading a gang I started. We did some minor stuff for a while but got real when we started extorting cops in Queens for cash. It was easier and safer than the other shenanigans, and when I kept my promises of taking cash or lives the money just came that much quicker." She relayed that chapter of her life with a measure of casual attitude as if just talking about when she baked cookies, but under that charade was pure spite. She hated that life like everything else.

She turned stony again as she picked her burger up and glanced at Alaric quickly. "I don't want to go back but it was the only way of life I've known."

Jack got to the floor and found Maximum security. He entered and shocked slightly the others so as they seemed to have have noticed it. Then he got the last guard, grabbed him by the neck, and slammed him into the wall.

"I have control of Maximum Security. What do I need to do."

He then radioed the others. "Are the elevators secured?"

IC: White Lightning was being a little optimistic. Mild shocks to some guards and a slight concussion to one other did not equal control of Maximum Security. It was a place designed to hold some of the nastiest characters around, and while it was currently just being used for some high level Morlocks, and had Alec tampering with the electronics the guards were no less well-trained. The ones still standing - which was most of them - opened fire on White Lightning, tranq darts hitting him in several places. There was a reason Leech had wanted to wait for the elevators to be under their control before making a move on the most heavily fortified area of the prison

IC:

Jack staggered back after being hit with the darts. He fired bolts of electricity at them, even though his vision was being blurred. If he wanted to take control of the masses in a small zone, now was the time. So he fired a small shock grenade -which he said never to USE again- at the remaining guards, and firing a few bolts as well. He started to get delirious, seeing things that weren't even there. He got his radio and asked again to the others, "Are those ####### elevators secured or not! I'm getting pounded with darts here." After that he fell and slept. Soon the guards would interrogate him on why he was here. Besides they'll be on high alert for the others too.

"So don't go back," Alaric offered. "Learn a new way to live your life and give it a shot. You'll be surprised what kind of works out for you. I was."

Annie scoffed, and her scorn of the idea was implicit in the very tone; Alaric recognized it because once, not too long ago, he'd scoffed at that same exact sort of suggestion when Beast had asked him to return to the Institute in New York, to give up several promising budding careers on the West Coast for the chance to educate a new generation. He'd hated teaching at first, then grown to tolerate it. He still hated grading papers. He hated not being able to punch people not much younger than him in the face. He'd hated the idea of being under Hank's eye again as an adult, being chided for his screwups, just as he was as a child. But now Hank was dead, wasn't he? He wasn't doing much watching out for Alaric anymore. No one was; that fact was in a way just as liberating as it was saddening, perhaps even moreso. After all, he'd lost a father more than once. That, you could get used to after a while, crushing as it was. Losing your freedom to screw up...that was different.

"It's not that simple, Ric," Annie finally replied in a very quiet tone of voice, and he knew she spoke the truth just as much as she knew it. He subtly told her as much with a curt "I know it's not, Annie" and nothing more. She'd get what Ric meant: that he may not have been in the exact same boat she was, that he hadn't had it as rough as she'd had it, but he'd still been in her shoes in a sense and had to learn to cope with it.

"Love you, too, sis," he said simply.

Ic: Annie reached up and placed her hand, cold from holding the Frosty, on Alaric's and rested her head on his shoulder. It was comforting to know that she was slowly regaining everything Warren had forbid her. The fortune truly meant nothing to her other than be a trophy win but having a sibling she could both relate to and be comfortable with, after seventeen years of not having one, was the best feeling she could have. Annie realized she missed Alaric; he was different than the spoiled boy she knew when she was three and despite the differences they had in life and experience he was every bit her brother.

"So what is next for you, once we kill the himself?" she asked, still in Alaric's embrace.

"Well, I suppose I should go and at least try to do my job for like a week or two," he sighed, clearly bored with life as a history teacher. "After I fail miserably at working with teenagers for a living, I kinda want to move to the West Coast. Reconnect with our mother. Spend a couple years just ting away Warren's fortune. It's all up in the air."

"What do you do at the academy, anyway?" Annie asked. While she was aware of the school's basic workings she was oblivious to its inner mechanics, including its faculty. All she knew was a dogma that if Warren was a part of it the whole thing was as rotten as a month-old banana in a ziploc bag.

"Technically, I'm history teacher and Acting Headmaster. Unofficially, I sit around during the school day, drink a lot of bourbon, and lock myself in the teacher's lounge with a bunch of snacks and a TV remote until a disaster comes along which I'll inevitably pass on to someone else down the chain of command so I don't have to leave said teacher's lounge."

Suddenly, a thought came to her as she remembered he said acting headmaster. "And what happened to the last headmaster? Was it Warren?" she said, peeling herself from Alaric's embrace and looking worriedly in his eyes.

Ic: "Sorry, but I've never really been an optimistic kinda girl," Annie confessed. She felt like making some expression how there's light at the end of the tunnel or how there was always something good after a bad stretch of road, but try as she could she didn't find it in her nature to say those things. She was a gritty realist who lived by the motto that life sucked and there was always going to be conflict. While she felt happy with Alaric she still couldn't just throw away her philosophy since age three. But at least some of that happiness came out. "But at least we found each other and we're not coming apart again, not after what we've been through.

"Also, you didn't answer my first question."

Posted

IC:

"Oh, no, it's not even fun history. Greco-Roman up to the Depression. Post World War II was all covered by Hank. That part was totally not in my job description," Alaric bemoaned, rolling his eyes and kicking back on the bed.

Annie put the Frosty, which she still held, on the counter and tossed herself back to lie next to Alaric. "Yeah," she said, her brows raised and smashed together, "that does sound like total . Why did you even bother getting into that in the first place?" she asked.

"I owed him a favor," he replied, turning over to look at Annie. "A big one. Worth about seventeen years of little tiny favors."

"I guess that's the fundamental difference we have," Annie said.

"What is?"

"Well, see, you were given the means to do anything you wanted," Annie explained her observation, "but despite your material wealth you still became indebted to people in one way or another. I, on the contrary, was given nothing at all and forced to make my own way, but I owe nothing to anyone and am my own person."

"Well, I guess you're right," Alaric agreed casually, oddly detached from the whole line of thought yet clearly understanding her point anyway. "Guess it doesn't matter much anyway, huh. Can't pay somebody back when they're dead, so...I guess I have one big clean slate now. I'm free."

Ic: "I've heard news that the government doesn't look kindly at the X-Men anymore," Annie said as she looked at the ceiling. "If the school isn't as important as I've been led to believe, how about shutting it down completely?" she offered. "Stop being an organized group and be more free." And Annie knew freedom -- and constraint -- well enough.

IC:

"Be more free, huh? Shut down the X-Men?" Alaric asked, brow slightly furrowed as he turned to look his little sister in the face. To Beast the idea would have been heresy, and it probably would have given Charles Xavier an aneurysm on the spot, but to Alaric the idea was much more practical than it sounded at first listen. Plus the idea of being free and having his own life path beyond the rigidity of the Institute - at last - sounded puh-retty good.

"Well..., I mean. If it gave us a chance to make up for lost time...then it's not a bad idea," he admitted, shrugging as effectively as he could while balancing the gesture with a distinct flippant air. "It's actually a pretty great one. If we make up for lost time. That, uh...seems like something I could see bumping an old boarding school off the top of my priority list."

Annie's hand was cool from her grip around the Frosty, and it brushed against Alaric's fair skin softly as his bangs were tucked away by his ear, just like hers were; for the first time he realized how similar the two Worthingtons truly looked, even though her face was slightly sharper than hers, and her features were slightly thinner around her mouth and nose. Her other hand was propped up against his chest, which tightened instinctively to help support her added weight on his. His brow furrowed; his lips curled into a coy smirk that seemed to have some idea of what was going on, though the full picture had not yet been developed.

"I just bought you dinner," he drawled. "If that's not a start, what is?"
