  1. I don't go to bed before 2am anymore, y'all.

Seriously - I've been trapped in what at this point is probably a month-long cycle where I just can't being myself to hit the sack before the wee hours of the morning roll around. My roommate probably hates it, but he's a pretty sound sleeper and he's never complained about it so I'm not really motivated to stop. That's the thing about this cycle - nothing is motivating me to snap out of it, and because of that I'll do nothing during the day knowing full well I have a 2-hour-plus nook carved out just around midnight where I get the bulk of my work done without any kind of disturbance (except, well, writing this when I should be studying for an exam I have tomorrow). When I come to my senses, I think I'll miss those peaceful hours.

All that to say, I'm in college now and the last time I wrote a post on this website I was still in middle school. Oh, how time flies.

I don't really recognize anything about BZPower's current state - everything I did here was before the Dataclysm (that's what we called it, right?) and the archives don't seem to really actually work, so even though my profile claims that I have over 600 posts, only 2 of them actually exist anymore. Heck, even Maj is dead now, so even most of the comics I made for this place are gone forever now too. I haven't poked around to see what this place is like, although I feel like I should, because I'm afraid I'll look around and just straight up not recognize any names. I have lots of questions about what happened to this place, mostly just about who stayed, who left, and how many new people actually ended up coming here. BIONICLE did come back for a while, so was there a revival of sorts?

At this point the post's gotten a bit rambly, but let me give a bit of background for anyone who doesn't recognize my username (read: everyone). I joined BZPower in 2007, because I had just recently become enamored with the BIONICLE line and after moving to Colorado didn't have many friends at first so I found fun in reading about my favorite toys on the Internet. I guess. I think I mostly posted pictures of my subpar MOCs at first but it probably wasn't even a month after I joined that I released a really subpar comic series, Coleanuva's Comics. Despite my blatant lack of wit or artistic talent, I stubbornly made a home for myself in the Artwork III subforum, and for the next 2 years that was basically the only place I went on the website. I made several friends who also made comics - though I figure they probably looked at me as an annoying little kid who tried to tag along with them, which I wouldn't at ll blame them for because that would be spot-on accurate. Lol. Anyway, I complained my way into the International Comic Continuity, which was composed of thirteen (maybe? idfk, it grew as we went along and most people didn't end up actually releasing much after the group formed anyway) comic makers who, but for a few notable exceptions - okay, maybe just the one - were all pretty darn talented. Unfortunately, pretty soon after that group came to be, some stuff happened and we kinda lost momentum, and then the Dataclysm happened and we pretty much just died. I'm not quite sure where the rest of them are today - they were all older than me so I figure they're pretty much not even thinking about this place, which is probably natural at this point, lol. Kahi I think is still part of TTV, which is pretty cool; I look at Tavakai's Twitter every now and then, and he seems to be doing well; and I was actually in contact with Gavla semi-recently, and that was really nice.

So that's my history on BZPower, which was kind of a long blurb for what amounted to a whole lot of nothing. Which, I don't know, that was probably pretty self-indulgent of me to write but this is my blog and my parents paid 35 buckaroos for me to be able to have it so you're gonna have to deal with it. At this point I feel like I've just been begging for someone to say they remember me, and how vain is that? (Pretty vain.) So I'm just gonna move on.

Since leaving BZP I've had a pretty good life thus far. I got a lot better at talking to people and that led to at least a halfway-pleasurable experience for me in high school, which was nice. I also got better at sports and played baseball on my school's varsity team, which I would not have believed if you had told me that when I used to frequent this place. (speaking of that, if there's a decent baseball community around here, I might be interested in contributing to that - I could talk sports for days with anyone, lol) I began college and I'm here now studying computer engineering, which I'm thoroughly enjoying. I'm living a lot better than I was before, and I'm just generally pretty happy with life. When I used to go on here a lot, I guess I wasn't so sure of that - but I was pretty young, then, so it's not like I knew much anyway.

If you're still here with me, thanks for reading! This is both something I've wanted to do for a while and an excellent way of not studying differential equations because I am so bad at it. If y'all have anything you'd like to tell me about the state of the website, what's changed, or your favorite memories of old (pre-crash) BZP, I think that would be cool! If not, I think that's also cool! I was just thinking about this place and wanted to run by the neighborhood again to see what was going on. Hope you all are doing well, and have a great day!

(also, the sidebars on this blog may no longer be accurate, lol)

My finger has almost completely healed, so yay! Only downside is that I'm not going to get a scar. I'm dissapointed. I wanted one. I went through all that for nothing? Oh well.

  3. Now that summer is finally here, I have a little bit more time on my hands. I am continuing my quest to finish my list of 100 books. In that regard I finally finished A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens a while back. I thought it was a reasonably well written book, although it still wasn't on the same level of Great Expectations.

I also just finished Wuthering Heights. It wasn't a bad book although it was rather depressing. At least the last chapter closed on a somewhat happy ending.

I'm starting on Jane Eyre now, and hopefully it won't take quite as long as some of the previous books. It's also the last book I have from my parent's house, so I'll need to venture to the local library again to find my next book.

It's 11:00 PM on a Sunday, and I just watched "Mask of Light" for the first time, just for the heck of it. I am super bored and have consumed many adult beverages.

    Bizarre, huh?

Tomorrow will be my four year anniversary of joining BZPower. I have been quite inactive here lately, but I have not forgotten this place. I am proud to have been a member of such a great community for so long.

  7. I am not, and never will be ashamed of the cake puns in this blog entry title.

Anyways, it's been fun to look at milestones from the past 5-6 years of my baked goods journey. Please enjoy (vicariously) snapshots of gloopy sadness and glutenous glow-ups.

My ego insists that I tell you about my natural dis-inclination toward exact measurements and the science-y part of baking (which is why I historically have had more success with cooking). But sharing sweet food with friends and family over the years has been a good motivator to improve, and there's nothing like a sporadic BZP blog post to share the progress :)

2018, for a sibling's birthday. This was back when I didn't know (or care) about pan sizes or icing consistency. My mindset was "It's sugar, flour, and more sugar. How bad can it be?" To be fair, it (probably) tasted good. I'm pretty sure we ate all of it, eventually. 😅

2019, for the same sibling's birthday. I had the vision, obviously not the execution. To be fair, it was a very hot summer that year, and I think this was my first attempt at homemade icing? But, yeah. ooof.

To be fair! It was eaten and did not go to waste!

2020, this sibling is very spoiled, and finally had a cake from big sister that stood up on its own!! Progress never tasted so good! (probably, I don't actually remember at this point what flavor this was)

2021, Valentine's brownie/cake. This is when I decided to care about form factor and presentation more. Boxed brownie mix and store-bought icing all around - two modern marvels that I will never cease to love.

    image.thumb.png.4616e9e0d8e12b490a32af224834881b.png

2022! This is the year I stepped it up because suddenly there were in-laws to impress! Lemon raspberry cake, got my whole baking pan situation sorted and took homemade icing seriously. I've found the YouTube channels Binging with Babish and Preppy Kitchen to be the most helpful (educational, practical, and instructional), and you can probably tell!

But also, I found that I had more free time on the weekends with a job change. Moving from a physical warehouse job to a sedentary office job during this year was interesting - when I had a physical job, my hobbies outside of work were much more internal and sedentary. I got a lot of reading and writing done in these time period. When I changed to an office/teaching job, my hobbies almost immediately changed back to tactile and physical (knitting, cooking, baking, hiking). Funny how balance just kind of happens sometimes.

Pies, scones, muffins, cupcakes, and a few other desserts were also explored in this year. In a slightly broader scope, we also tried some fun international dishes at home, like pupusas, baozi, and spring rolls!

2023 cakes, and many other baking ventures happened this past year. Here are some of the highlights. It also helps that I changed jobs and had an office to share these baked goods with (as opposed to the old warehouse gig).

Apple Butter Maple cakes, from Preppy Kitchen. I actually broke a crock pot trying to make apple butter from scratch for the filling 😱

The small cake on the right is gluten and dairy free, and underneath the passable icing, was a DISASTER. Still learning the intricacies of the GF/DF world for the sister-in-law. Thankfully there are many box mix options now!!

     image.png.8ac35a708692d32709012ac8371cb42d.png

Pink brownie cakes for niece's birthday. Had some fun with icing piping bags and nozzles, but have yet to actually get into decorating (may not actually happen. There's still that primal battle between "make it look nice" vs "it's all going to the same place", so there's a limit to my dithering.

     image.png.bf8bfa912e224a985ab07edb671d9a73.png

Christmas Babkas! Technically not cakes, but after many attempts at sourdough that were meh at best, babka sounded like sufficient, sweet, and swirly compromise for a dough-based challenge.

2024 has yet to see large-scale baking productions - just some congratulatory oreo cupcakes to welcome a new nephew, and a batch of Hong Kong egg tarts that were a funky texture 😝.

Anyways, that's a slice of my life recently (wink!) and I'm always excited to hear suggestions, tips, or other tales!

  8. The fire that was threatening my local area is mostly contained. Actually it has been for two weeks or so. Evacuation orders are probably almost entirely lifted by now except for some small area. So that's mostly good. It did not come without losses for many people, though.

But it's California, and we're a box of matches when it comes down to it. Hotspot detection satellites are lighting up the state like a Christmas tree. That's why even though we (folks in my area) aren't being immediately threatened by fires, we're still breathing near toxic air, ash is falling down like a light sprinkle of snow, and everything looks like Las Vegas from Blade Runner 2049 (which, not fun fact, the look was inspired by this very phenomenon). And many, many people are still being threatened by fires.

And we aren't even in fire season yet. October is when we start to see stronger winds, when things can get really bad. But, then, at this rate, what will be left to burn?

What a miserable end of summer.

This is my sort of annual visit to BZP to see how things are. This site was one of my main stomping grounds when I was in my teens. Man the time has flown by. I'm freaking 30 years old now! It's pretty cool to see that this place is still going.

    Well, until next time!

Although it's true that this entry is primarily posted to see if anyone reads my profile, what I have to say is honest.

The below quote displays my two items of discussion.

Hes really kool and very custom! Though ur gonna get disqaulified for using blue friction pins

I'm very sure the rules said that friction pins and plus rods and anything of that kind is okay to use even if it's a non-permissionable color.

You, my friend, just SPAMMED. Next time say something about my wonderful Moc."

To begin, what the #@&%! is up with this obsession with "custom"??! What happened to caring about good quality, aesthetically pleasing MOCs? I've seen much nicer creations docked as second class simply because the guy next door completed the "custom" checklist. Custom isn't king guys. Actually, it has been proclaimed king. It doesn't belong as royalty. What ought to be supreme is a MOC that has creative parts usage that actually looks GOOD, excellent color distribution, flowing form. Grow a pair of eyes, BZPower community.

Second, what the heck is up with the rampant egos Ive been hearing about around here lately? Here's another actual quote demonstration.

Actually, it's a pretty good MoC, for a beginner. evilgrin.gif . It looks pre-pit, but compared to the rest of the body, the legs can be a bit longer and more bulky. The only thing that bothers me is the leg armour and the head. The leg armour could be WAY better. The Head, it just looks CREEPY. Certainly not pre-pit. Overall, it's a good MoC! 9/10.

    1. I am NOT a Beginner.

    2. The legs are actually a bit longer than you think....

    3. I wanted the head to look creepy.

Even if someone were to win five BBCs and thirteen ACs, there should be no hyper-inflated ego. That member should still care about the community as a whole, include himself in all social groups, be HUMBLE, ADMIT wrongs, be RESPECTFUL to staff and all around CHILL OUT. Having problems with walmart staff regarding lego? Big deal! These are LEGO Bricks we're talking about here. It may seem reeeally important to you now, but gain some bloody perspective. :) Fifteen years from now you won't remember that set.

    Seriously guys.

AUGH. I CANNOT BELIEVE I ALMOST LET THIS ENTIRE WEEK GO BY WITHOUT POSTING IN MY BLOG... And I don't have much to say, either. I'm starting high school soon (O_O) and I'm beginning to run out of sticky notes. My Dad is still unemployed.

In other news, I tried to talk to AA last night but he brushed me off with his "not now," response, yet again. Way to keep the status quo there.

Anyone have ideas on how I can get back into BZP? That extended break last spring really threw me out of things. And I still don't feel like RPing. Why is this. How much longer can I even post in here, anyways?
