There's so many new things on the forum that I'm unfamiliar with. It feels both familiar and alien. Still, it's nice to see faces and names from the past.

I'm personally really excited for Kirby. I basically grew up playing the series and to finally have a proper open-world 3d Kirby (not counting Air Ride City Mode) is really neat.

When I think of a wise old master who's a woman I think of Toph in the Legend of Korra. Though the entire show is Asian inspired so I'm not sure if that really counts since she isn't really a minority in the show, she's just cranky.

I've separated your points by each mini paragraph.

1. Lapis Lazuli is correct, most people fake confidence until they start to truly become confident in themselves. Others look for something to be confident about or they reexamine their life to find a way to become more confident.

2. A person should never fear talking with another human being, as all they are is just another perspective. A good amount of people's issues they see in themselves is strictly internal (meaning it's just in their head or it's not something physically seen), thus there's no reason to fear for another person's thoughts. It's also important to realize that most people aren't nearly as cruel as they are made out to be, the majority of humans are good natured and thus aren't ones who are quick to judge another for any faults that one might have.

3. Everyone has problems that they face, each of them is unique. The important thing to realize is that when it comes to problems, it's not a measure of how life threatening a problem may seem, it's a matter of the person's perspective on their own problem. For some people, their problems might be not being able to grow enough food for their family before the approaching winter while another person's might be the inability to pay their  bills. One is more life threatening than the other but both may be of equal importance to that individual, it is the scale of their problems. If you truly feel like these people need some help, then by all means help them. Often, helping another human being is all that's needed to build up confidence in yourself. Also, when you're faced with a genuine problem you should never fear turning to others for help, whether it's friends, family, strangers or some paid worker, it isn't selfish. 

"How do you even cope?"

You find a solution to your problem or you accept it. Either way, you just move on from it. Essentially: If it's a problem you can solve, solve it and move on. If you can't then there's nothing you can do so move on.

I've got almost the opposite reaction. I would be working on some sort of photo manipulation or some kind of digital painting and I would need a reference which I otherwise can't find online. Then I'd have to find the thing in real life and I just think to myself, "Ugh, well it's for a reference. As soon as I've taken the picture I'm done." I end up having to convince myself to just get the reference done because I normally don't like taking pictures.

Howdy,

I feel almost as if monthly may be too much, it reminds me too much of the whole, "Employee of the Month" concept, which is often awarded for achievement. Having it random seems odd to me and I feel like it could get stale. Also, having it be based upon some sort of creative thing that the member created would also seem not nearly as fair. This is mainly due to the fact that not everyone contributes to the site in creative ways, some simply post, some report, some play games or other such activities. 

I would, however, support a weekly basis. For 52 weeks that would be 52 members. It could be a "Member of the Week," which to me would seem less contrived. It also would support more of a random aspect to it since it's only a week. I think it would work better in my opinion.

I do support the idea, however.

Assuming I get to pick where I land, I'd probably land somewhere in Victorian Era England or in California during the Gold Rush. The reason for either location is because both of which are settings for some stories I'm writing. I would mainly just look around at the settings, listen in on people and chat with some people. Basically, I'd hope to be able to identify what exactly are the key factors of either time period based on firsthand experience.

I asked a very similar question, although only one person answered :|.  Anyway, I would totally want to have a Red Kangaroo.  Although they aren't domesticated, I wouldn't necessarily think of them as "wild animals" either, especially if they're brought up as pets, but some people would debate that.  They can kill you with a single kick if you're unfortunate enough to tango with a male during mating season.  Anyway, I seriously do plan on getting a kangaroo someday, maybe a few, and start breeding them.  Right now, that's kind of my dream job.

 

If a kangaroo doesn't quite count, then I I would want a cheetah, which again can get along with humans.

 

So if the cheetah doesn't count, I would want a tiger.  And since this is pure fantasy, I'd want that tiger to be six feet tall at the withers.

Sounds like that could be fun.

I guess my main issue is that the blogs are programmed differently to the forums.  In the forums, if you have a topic (for instance a comic topic), posts from the author as well as comments from fans both serve equally to bump up the topic.  Because of this, the more popular topics stay at the top of the list regardless of how frequently the author posts.

 

The blogs don't work like that.

 

Blogs list everything by latest entry.  Posting daily entries just makes it look like you're bumping up your own blog just to get attention.  I understand that this may not your intention, but that is not the impression you give off.

 

Another issue with the blogs is that once you post a new entry, it's a bit more effort to view the previous ones.  Most of the time, even though it's like 2 extra clicks, people just aren't going to do it.  If you are trying to foster some sort of discussion, you are going to have to leave your blog entry up for a day or two.  This lets people answer the questions and then check back later to see if/how others responded to what they said.

I had a much longer reply but the comment system ate my comment so I'll keep it succinct. Also, apparently bullet points don't work so I had to resort to numbers, which look more threatening. I apologize. 

1. I'm sorry if I'm bringing down the spirit of the blogging section of the site, that was not my intention.

2. The reason for it being daily is because I'm used to doing thing daily. My "history" on the site, so to speak, is in comics where daily comics = good. Asking a question takes considerably less time than making a comic so it makes it easier to do this process daily.

3. I don't expect anyone to even answer the questions, I also am not waiting for a certain amount of people to answer or specific people to. I address this in an earlier question where I don't ask a question that I can't answer myself. Some people simply don't have an answer to a question and some people miss the question whether on purpose or not. I've never found it an issue whether a question gets less replies since the question is archived and they can always answer it if they feel the desire to. I sometimes get replies to questions I've asked days before which may be from people who simply have never checked out my blog or are new to the site or have simply missed some questions. 

4. I don't exactly view my "blog" as being a traditional blog at all. This is evident by the fact that I don't discuss my personal life too much, the only things I ever comment on is my person. I view it instead as an open forum, a place where I can simply ask questions that people have the option to answer or not.

5. I enjoy learning about people, which is the obvious source as to why I ask the questions. Sometimes I learn things that otherwise wouldn't be self evident through strict comment sections on the forums alone. Sometimes these people have something they wish to say but they don't have a place to express it because they aren't premier for instance. I view this as a place for people to not only talk about themselves but also to learn more about themselves, who they are as a person. 

6. I've considered putting in the title, "Daily Question:" but the reason I have not is because it would limit the amount of space to put the actual question in the title. I could put it at the top of the posts if that may help address the issue. 

7. I can see a correlation between my blog entries and for example, a youtube channel. You may enjoy a channel for its series that it produces but not all of them. If you're subscribed to them you may not enjoy seeing something you don't wish to see, you get overloaded with videos essentially. You have the option on youtube to unsubscribe though whereas in this blog section of the site you do not. There isn't a clear way (that I know) of restricting the viewing or placement of a blog entry. This then means that the decision is based around the people who reply to this (as I'm not too concerned). If the majority wishes for me to not post daily questions then I can go every-other-day, every 2 days, bi-weekly, weekly or whatever.

8. Don't worry about expressing your opinion on what I'm doing as that's exactly what this is all about. If I didn't want to hear people's opinions I wouldn't ask questions and I wouldn't post it to a public forum.

9. Also, don't worry. I trust you with the spirit of the blog since your name is SPIRIT after all.

With most questions I ask I can normally tell what the "clever" answer is going to be and often times I let someone else give it but this time it was too obvious, I felt compelled to take it.

And that's the point of the question, it's to make you think. What identifies you as a person? Is it your hobbies, your personality, your emotions, or your logic? Maybe it's all of those, but if so then what parts?

I don't expect everyone to be brilliant wordsmiths, capable of describing themselves in a manner that illustrates their conscious being. Some people have superb self-awareness while others do not. Not to mention that these same people may not even have great writing skills to be able to further explain their findings. The point though is to try to come up with some sort of answer, whether you answer it here or you just answer it to yourself. 

Think of it like preparation. Essentially the question is, "Tell me about yourself." 

It's a very common question in relationships, whether they're romantic or platonic. When someone asks that you're not just going to say, "Well, I'm tall, I've got light hair... blue eyes..." or whatever, as they can obviously see that (unless they're blind). It's something that I feel like everyone should have some grasp on, the things that make you, you.

I know that some people will simply scoff at this, whether it's actual members or simply guests viewing this entry. They may find it to be unimportant or too philosophical. It wouldn't surprise me, many people don't enjoy reflecting on themselves whether it be for fear of ego, lack of it, or something else entirely. It's still a concept that I implore more people to do as it helps with your self-awareness, it helps you to be able to realize just how you are seen by others and perhaps may inspire some people to change their ways if need be.

As I said before, I'm not expecting too many people to reply to this entry. Especially since it's one of the "longer" ones that doesn't have an immediate answer. But perhaps that's why I'm asking it, why isn't it an immediate answer? When I was younger I used to know exactly who I was but as I got older it started to get more complex. But it doesn't have to be complex, life itself truly isn't. We just make it so. 

So that is my point. The idea of self-awareness in my opinion can be an important asset in your life and I urge more people to be able to identify with who they are as a person. To truly know themselves based off of the one advantage they have over others knowing them, which is their thoughts. 

TLDR: How can you help yourself if you don't know yourself, unless you don't want to know yourself in which case that's cool too.

Sounds like an interesting project. I'm curious why the desire to construct a new language though, it seems like an odd project to partake in. Is it for some sort of world building or just out of boredom?

Well I'm glad to be one of the few people you've seen to properly understand the definition of grammar .

 

To answer your question, I'm outlining a science fiction book series.  Conlanging was something I was going to avoid for the longest time because I knew full-well just how many factors went into it, so I created a situation in my series where everyone spoke English as a second language.  Interestingly enough, it's BZPower that got me to change that approach, because enough people thought that I was being anglocentric and xenophobic.  Since that accusation hurt, I've decided that the aliens in my series are going to speak their own languages — although I've decided that if I was going to go in that direction, I was going to go all out.  I'm going to have characters speak them in the books, and I'm going to write poetry for these languages.

 

This is also sort of a reaction to the realization that my books will never be adapted into movies with John Williams scores.  My way of looking at it is that if I can't give my works the universal language (music), then I'll make up for it by creating a universe of languages.

I wouldn't say that it would be impossible to adapt the story into a movie based around language. They could easily put subtitles or showcase more visual body language to showcase an idea of what's being said. If it can happen with foreign films I wouldn't be surprised if it would work with something of this concept. That is, unless your story revolves heavily on first-person narrative in which case I would say that would be a lot harder to adapt.

I'm honestly surprised to hear you say science fiction as that wasn't what I was assuming at all when I had asked. Normally when I think of constructed language I imagine fantasy, with such examples such as the elvish language so to see that it's going to be sci-fi is interesting in that regard and frankly, it makes a lot of sense. Especially with the perspective of it being related to aliens and alien culture. Which yields the question to how much culture you would then be putting into the story, especially in regards to aliens. I know that certain languages have restricted or different constructions that make poetry, wordplay, slang and other such factors unique so it makes me curious as to how much history and culture you're going to try to delve into in regards to your alien race. 

Regardless of that though, it definitely sounds like an interesting project. May I ask how far along you are?
