  1. Did you read the whole review?

It doesn't offer any helpful tips on how to achieve the look the reviewer thinks the MOC should have...

When reviewing MOCs, you've got to keep in mind that only so much can be done with Bionicle pieces. "It's too smooth in parts and too jagged in others" doesn't really tell him how to change it, just that it needs to be changed.

I'm sorry if I sound really harsh or something. >< Super-negative reviews really get on my nerves because, as I said before, no matter how right they may be, they can make the artist/MOCer/writer feel horrible. Just a mere change of wording can make a world of difference and gain you more respect.

  2. Since it makes so little sense, aren't people foolish for using them? Why not use something that makes sense? Like normal English? :P

Keep in mind that you cannot change the outlook of most of the world by saying, "Swear words make little sense and there's no reason to be offended by them." If so many people are offended by them, then there must be a reason, no matter how unoffending the words may seem to you.

On a slightly related topic: a lot of the time, the swear words in songs are really unnecessary. Like, put in just for the sake of swearing.

Which always makes me wonder... why do they do it? The CD doesn't get higher reviews just because it has swear words in it, even from people who don't mind swearing. They could easily use different words without affecting the song at all.

  3. I don't know why they are, to be honest. :P A lot of the words seem like people randomly picked them to be swear words. Some don't even make grammatical sense.

The point, however, is that they are, just like some gestures are very rude. It shows respect to your fellow human-peoples when you refrain from using words that they could be offended by.

None of those words are a necessary part of the vocabulary -- in fact, a lot of the time, they make you a lot less clear. Taking the time to explain what you didn't like about a movie is more helpful to other people than just saying, "It was a bunch of [insert swear word here]."

Finally, let me add that it's a lot more fun to poke fun at the grammatical-sense-lacking of swear words and say things like, "What the Australia was that!?"

That is completely the opposite of constructive criticism. It doesn't offer any helpful tips on how to achieve the look the reviewer thinks the MOC should have, but just points out everything "wrong" with it and tears the MOCer down. Saying things like "it looks nothing like it should," "you didn't do a good enough job," and "doing this totally ruined it" is just mean. Something like, "If you have any, you could try using some black pins, instead of red, in the places that show up the most. It's really hard to find a lot of black pins nowadays, though (thanks, Lego XD)" says basically the same thing but in a completely different way.

Even when some of the things pointed out are valid points, the MOCer is left feeling like utter fail and with a strong dislike for the reviewer.

Yaaay, I just reviewed a review! XD
