  1. I think around that period where Lego was experimenting with the multiple lines with similar thematic elements, they must have had an original concept at some point they wanted to develop into a flagship line. The mechanical/Technic element, the lore and story to accompany it and the multimedia promotion and expanded universes. These were all elements held in common by Roboriders, Slizers and to a lesser extent Rock Raiders. As a result I think that's probably where the carry over came over. Every time they decided one of these lines would be discontinued and replaced they probably revised the core concept, correcting what they determined needed changing to be more successful. Story elements like that may have survived or drawn upon the same original conceptual plans. Well that's what it seems like to me anyway.
  2. So I got a Surface Pro 3 and was wondering if anyone know any programs that I should get in particular that take advantage of the Surface screen well? I haven't started using the pen much yet, but if anyone knows anything that might change that that would be cool. For example anyone know any good image editing/creating programs I could use with it?
  3. Only problem I have with the analogy is where reboot vs continuation fits into it - it's a spectrum between the two and picking somewhere leaning far towards reboot with some continuation isn't betting against the obvious winner. It's not a discrete decision. Besides, are there really that many people out there arguing for a complete continuation? (I haven't seen many, but I think it's pretty easy to see that wouldn't be reasonable to expect. )
  4. I think the Mask of Creation is actually a really good choice as (for reasons I'm guessing they deliberated on) it: Gives a weak link to the existing lore, without having too much baggageIs super special and awesome without having been explicitly seen yetFits in really well with theme of Lego in general - I mean is there a more Lego power than "creation"? Perfect for the launch/relaunch of a new line, regardless of whether it was in the previous incarnation or not.Very good decision by them I think.
  5. You can almost smell it now, can't you? It's so close!
  6. Karzahni and the Mata Nui titan were the ones I regret the most. Karzahni was more of a "never got around to it" set and I let it slip past for too long. Mata Nui titan was a combination of money and availability - when he was available I couldn't afford him and assumed I could get him online later but had more trouble with that than I thought I would. Then his price climbed into unreasonable territory. The Mata Nui titan one is annoying in particular since I'd always wanted a giant Mata Nui set since the first year of Bionicle; was always a dream of mine. If anyone is selling new of either feel free to contact me by the way.
  7. I feel the same way. Haven't seen Adventurer in a long time. Aww I'm remembered! (Hopefully in a semi-good/ok way by most that do. ) Also for the complexity thing - I thing the story/lore did have a lot of unrefined edges, particular as you deviated away from the main story, but the complexity I must say was something in of itself I enjoyed a lot. I can see however that it would be frustrating to someone who wanted to keep up with the story, but didn't want to commit to following all the various sources and history etc... Even though you could just follow one source (comics or books) it would have felt a bit incomplete, for me at least, I feel. That being said, I also think that the issue wasn't so much the story, but that unrefined patched together feeling from the fringier parts of the lore, started to work their way into the primary story in some of the later years (not so much SM, but just before that). That was fine with me as made things exciting to analyse, but I can see why it wouldn't flow well for most.
  8. Fads/memes/in-jokes will develop naturally when a single member or small group of members do something others naturally want to do as well. Trying to organise them either fails or produces low quality or forgettable fads and what not. I'd say also that people using the Mask of Creation as a signature/avatar isn't really a "fad" as we've tended to refer to them on this site (at least from what I've seen), just more of a common symbol (not best wording to differentiate what I mean, I feel my vocabulary has deteriorated over the past few years. ). That being said I hope the community flourishes enough again soon that we start seeing little cultural things like that popping up again, they're quite fun to take part of/observe.
  9. What do you mean by acknowledge? I'm confused as to why you're bringing this up here. I just feel like it was a huge development that nobody's really taken any notice of (I actually find the way Greg drops stuff on that chat forum kind of annoying, since a lot of the SM canon feels only half-there), and since we were talking about the elemental tribes I thought it fitted. It's not really worth a whole topic. I think the main reason it felt half-there was because it only really had a year/year and a half to develop and he was trying to basically establish a new lore/sub-lore. In comparison to the later MU years, the first two years of Bionicle's law would have probably felt half-there too, but over time it accumulated, changing our expectations. That being said though, MNOG really helped flesh out and realise the world though, in a way the 2009 movie couldn't. As for the Earth tribe thing, it was probably something he mentioned as a potential story tool for later use but of course never had a chance to have a need to use it.
  10. Hopefully an official tease of the new sets finally. Or at least a vivid description.
  11. I think it might also be worth pointing out in terms of fans wanting a continuation - that I've seen a decent amount of fans online who have said they're excited for the new line but were unimpressed with the state of the last few years of the story in general and would rather that be left behind. There's going to be people unhappy no matter what TLC decides to do - it's just a matter I think of picking the best option for the quality of the line and its success. Personally I like the "soft reboot" idea (I use quotation marks because everyone seems to have a different definition of all these terms ) where its a new start of some sort but doesn't entirely disregard everything that has happened. There's a large number of ways that could be achieved and it seems to be a nice compromise for old fans of both types as well as giving the creators the freedom they need to do what they want with the new line.
  12. Great piece of art work - has a nice nostalgic feel to it.
  13. I think while there is a large percentage of the MU that was left unexplored, I feel they made the right choice moving away from it - it was refreshing. I'd still be interested seeing more of the MU and even more so finding out more about the "day-to-day" cultures and lives of the beings in it, but on the same token for the primary story I liked the shift. That being said from the point of view of now I'd be happy to explore the bits we didn't see more.
  14. As a kid I always wanted to do the caring or mask forging of some sort, but realistically I'd probably end up in the knowledge towers.
  15. Metru-toran personally - they felt like a good design for a "citizen" of Metru-Nui if that makes sense. Nice size and proportions, cool colour schemes and the Kanoka were cool.
  16. Greg's ending fit a more recurring theme among Toa throughout the story - I'm guessing the inner struggle thing might be a favourite of his - and I actually prefer it overall, it's a more interesting concept to explore I feel. But that being said Cathy's ending did have a nice feel to it and worked better in the context of the story created throughout the rest of the book. I wouldn't say either is definitively better than the other - I think Greg's is more interesting, but having read Cathy's version first that one feels more "right" to me I guess?
  17. I was introduced the first year - so I think I would have been about 6 at the time. I followed onto it from the previous two lines which I would have been following since I was about 4-5 I'd imagine (having been a fan of Lego in general since birth basically ). If I were in your position I'd probably attempt to introduce my son to Bionicle, but not force it upon him if it wasn't his thing. I have a younger half brother who I'm going to try and get into the new line, but if he prefers the other lines then I'm not going to make him.(Obviously ). But if they were into it, would make for some great family bonding I reckon, so definitely worth a shot! EDIT: In regards to introducing them to the older stuff - I find starting with something current is probably better because it would a) have the excitement factor of being new, advertised, going to the shops and getting them, finding out what the new sets are etc... which was always an excitement factor for me (and still is ) and b) allow them to discuss it with friends and take advantage of the social side of it. Of course if they were interested in the current sets you could then go back and introduce them to the old stuff.
  18. Would be cool way to drum up hype for their "new" series. Maybe it could become a tradition that everytime Bionicle starts they give away a golden Kanohi.
  19. Can't stop staring! Can't wait for the full reveal to I have more shiny stuff to stare at. Very happy with this as the Mask of Creation though.
  20. Woo! Everything about this is looking awesome so far! TLC is successfully ensnaring me and my future funds. So happy we get the Mask of Creation! Can't wait to see it in action!
  21. Axonn hands were the coolest - though to make them proportional to most sets the rest of the body would need to be bigger (worked for Axonn, but we couldn't have all of our characters looking like Norse Dwarves ). I did really like specifically though how the fingers and their ends looked like the animated version of the Matoran hands (that kind of nice rounded end). Hydraxon's hands and most other titan sized characters tended to have claws of some sort.
  22. Happy birthday, Grandmesiter, Binkmeister! Hope you have a great day!
  23. I'm surprised less people are tweeting about Bionicle.
  24. They'll definitely be some rather vulnerable organs. By organ I meant as in they served the purpose our windpipe type organs do - they're obviously made of inorganic material so I don't think they're that vulnerable. (Thus why I kept putting organs in quotation marks. )
  25. I think for the Toa as sets I liked Hewkii or Jaller the most - hard to say since I really liked Jaller's pet and sword, but Hewkii's spikes and colouring were awesome. I think Hewkii had the far cooler Kanohi power so will give the edge to him. Barraki is hard to say - I really loved Carapar's set, though his character wasn't my favourite. I think overall between set and character Pridak in retrospect would be my favourite, though at the time overall Ehlek was probably my favourite (awesome set and his character was pretty fun, but the more we found out about Pridak, his past and character the more I grew to really like him. In fact I'd say he's one of my favourite characters in the entire saga now. )
