  1. I tried to resist, but I just couldn't. The phrase "could care less" does not mean what you think it means, and it drives me absolutely berserk to see people misusing language in such a patently boneheaded way. Now, with that out of the way... yeah, I'm going to have to agree with what Sumiki said. Mata Nui wasn't a very good ruler, no, and his characterization in 2009-2010 wasn't very compelling at all. However, keep in mind that, during his epic space voyages, we were never given Mata Nui's side of the story; we only saw his lack of involvement from the universe inside him, as opposed to his great involvement with the universe outside. There was a lot for him to study and think about, and he was probably very dedicated to his duty (just not his people). That's not unreasonable, since his duty was, if you recall, kind of a big deal. Mata Nui's shortcomings were pretty much the point of the whole story, but he did have redeeming factors. I think one great thing he did do was retreating into the Ignika at the end of the saga. After all, too much hero worship and blind loyalty was the problem that shattered Spherus Magna in the first place. His dormancy, while insensitive to the feelings of Kiina and his friends, was rather wise on the larger scale.
  2. Toa can't create Nui sadly. :/Can't, or haven't? If the Matoran and Turaga can form both Nui and Kaita, why not Toa? Greg eventually confirmed that a Toa Nui couldn't happen, because it would be way too powerful and unbalance the story. Frankly, I agree.
  3. YES. The Toa Hagah, after their revival, did successfully save Xia from two gigantic dragon Rahi, and that is to be commended. But thereafter, all their unique characterization seen in Challenge of the Hordika melted away, turning them into cookie-cutter stereotypes of their elements. Norik lost his wizened aura and became a default Fire Toa leader; Iruini lost his morally grey aspects and became a default Air Toa trickster; and all the others lost everything but their ability to snark. Sure, we learned what their mask powers were, but was it worth the complete lobotomy of their personalities? It doesn't help that they were relegated to a dead-end side plot that accomplished nothing, but the loss of their characterization is the biggest shame of that whole story. As Rahaga, each was an interesting, if undeveloped, side character with a unique outlook and close experience with Rahi. As Toa Hagah, they bore no resemblance to themselves whatsoever. Sure, turning them back into Toa was a heartwarming thing to do, and provided Greg with more snarky superheroes to fill the ranks of the cast -- but I'll take a unique mutant over a boring hero any day.
  4. [potentially leaked content removed. -bones] Hur hur, I see what you did there I like the Rahi that don't have counterparts such as Colony Drones and Parakrekks. They make Bionicle unique. Actually, Colony Drones have an obvious real-world parallel: they're aphids. Many ant colonies actually farm aphids for their honeylike secretions -- which further strengthens the comparison someone up above made between Visorak and ants. They really have very little to do with spiders, besides the web-spinning.
  5. The questions "Can the Toa Nuva become Turaga" and "Should the Toa Nuva become Turaga" have been discussed many times, and, while I don't object to their continued discussion, I'd like to see another question get some time in the spotlight: What would the Toa Nuva be like as Turaga? Because, come on, the idea of Turaga Kopaka trying to instruct rookie Toa is rich with comedic potential.
  6. Kapura'd? Oh, man, that's brilliant. This needs to be a thing.
  7. *cough cough* They were. (Possibly one of my proudest achievements in canonization...)
  8. Honestly? I don't think the Kaita should have existed at all. Don't get me wrong, I'm totally cool with the idea of combiners and alternate models. But introducing a mechanic for any three characters to fuse into another being? Oh, god, that just created a logistical nightmare. Do you know how many potential Rahkshi Kaita combinations there are? 11,480. And we met two of them. It boggles the mind. I guess the main problem I have with Kaita is that, while there are so many different combinations, we only saw them used in the first few years of story. Only the Toa Mata/Nuva, Bohrok-Kal, Rahkshi, and Matoran have ever been seen to create any kind of naturally occurring fusion. Frankly, I'd prefer to imagine that only the Matoran Nui, Akamai and Wairuha, and the Bohrok-Kal Kaita can naturally occur, and just discount the Rahkshi Kaita entirely. It makes everything much simpler. Of course, there's "Generation 1" BIONICLE for you. Overly, unnecessarily complicated in trivial or unimportant areas, and not detailed enough in important areas. I don't know why we even stuck with this story for so long when it's so unbalanced and full of glaring errors.
  9. BIONICLE was published by DC. Green Lantern was also published by DC. Someone somewhere along the line (probably the artist of this particular panel) thought it would be funny to include a visual shoutout to BIONICLE, which they could do because DC published the BIONICLE comics. Frankly, I think it's pretty hilarious, so two thumbs up to whoever made that call.
  10. And imagine if it had its own universe of Matoran, Toa, etc. living within it...
  11. I agree with this. Frankly, I wasn't thrilled about Jaller and co. becoming Toa, and I certainly wouldn't want that visited on the Chronicler's Company. Takanuva is besties with most of the Mahri, however, so he would be the perfect choice to round out the team. He's even got the color scheme down.
  12. ...That's not how "lieutenant" is spelled.
  13. Oh, I would dearly like to see that... but the key phrase there is "if the story team wanted to". And honestly, they don't. This was one off-hand mention in one line of a ten-chapter novel written and released eight years ago. And with our front-page news on the way, they probably have other priorities. So, alas, I don't think there's any way to get an official retcon. Like most of the old story's pitfalls, it's up to the fans to correct Greg's mistakes.
  14. I agree with you wholeheartedly. BIONICLE was full of horrible mistakes, poorly-thought-out storylines, and glaring plot holes... but the gender restrictions were, far and away, the stupidest thing in all of the saga. >_<
  15. You obviously don't remember 2006, when Legacy of Evil featured the first canon mention of "the Green" as an element. Greg had been planning to make the element female, but in an offhand mention of the Toa guarding the Makoki Stone, he absently described a Toa of the Green as a "he". For some reason, overly literal interpretation of the text won out over original intent, and so Plant Life got canonized as a male element. I, and every other fanfic writer with a lick of sense, have proceeded to completely ignore this rule ever since.
  16. If you're looking to really have your work cut out for you, you could try adding all of these to your chart.
  17. By the way, Boidoh, have you included Birth of a Dark Hunter and the other short stories among your canon hunt? BS01 has transcripts of all of them.
  18. How about the one that suspiciously resembles Turaga Lhikan? Still not technically canon, because Greg never saw it, so he's never approved it. Click is another canon polybag set.
  19. You misunderstand. You're in BZPower Storyline & Theories. Here, Greg's word is taken as the undeniable law of BIONICLE. He could say that, I don't know, talking unicorns exist on Spherus Magna, and the people here wouldn't object, they'd simply try to find a way to work that into their understanding of the storyline. BTW, your post boils down to "The subject you're talking about doesn't interest me and I think it's stupid, your question is confusing, and I have no interest in answering it for you". None of that is very helpful to the original poster. If you don't have anything useful to say, why post at all?
  20. I took the test again and got INTP over INTJ, though by a slim margin. Trying to categorize people's minds is a slippery subject, so all this ought to be taken with a grain of salt. Edit: After retaking it again, I've concluded the INTP result was an outlier. Though my personality does not necessarily fit into any category, it is closest to INTJ. Am I only saying that because my favorite characters are all INTJs? Possibly...
  21. So you're telling me I'm Velika? ...Yeah, I can see that. Anyone who knows me will tell you I speak in riddles and shroud my intentions in double meanings, and I've given up trying to explain my thought processes to other people.
  22. It would have to be 2008 for me. That year featured the return of the Toa Nuva, the full introduction of the Brotherhood of Makuta, and the (at the time) final battle for Mata Nui, which gave it lots of gravitas. It also featured the best story serials, on the whole, including Federation of Fear. What's more, the rapid-fire plot twists at the end of the year were the best plot twists in all of BIONICLE (mainly because they were some of the only ones planned in advance). We learned that the entire Matoran universe was located inside Mata Nui, and not a moment afterwards, we discovered that Makuta had taken control of that giant robotic body. The year's cliffhanger ending was fantastic, and left me really worried for the Matoran and Toa, and curious about Mata Nui's journey in exile. Unfortunately, 2008 was probably the worst year for sets, but I think the story makes up for that. 2006 comes in second place. I just can't get enough of the Piraka.
  23. Two posts I thought were interesting. One's already been linked over in the Velika's Agents topic; Greg confirms that the agents do know whom they're talking to, but don't necessarily know his plan for Spherus Magna. 1) Who they are talking to? Yes. 2) There is no reason to believe he shared his plans with any of these people. Why would he? They didn't need to know. 3) See answer to #2. Another post has lots of interesting little goodies. Tiro Canyon, the Motara Desert, and other Mata Nui locales were ("likely") named after Toa, though not necessarily Toa Mangai; all of Tobduk's species can feed off of emotions; and chutes existed in places other than Metru Nui. 1) They were likely named after Toa, but it may not have been from that particular team. 2) Yes and yes 3) Yes 4) No 5) Yes 6) Only one 7) I didn't. I don't think in pictures, I think in words, so I rarely imagine what someone will look like, especially before I actually have them show up substantially in story.
