  1. Great MOC! The use of trans-pink (or purple-can't discern it for certain) gives it a really authentic look. Not quite sure of this particular head and its placement though. It looks like one of those masks that just needs to be used on something strictly humanoid. Other than that, pretty dang good overall. Also, glad our collab was able to give you inspiration
  2. There are various pieces that you could have used instead of some of the regular smooth tiles for example, like grill plates. Those add aesthetic texture that more closely resembles machine parts or armor. One other example is instead of using a regular 2x1 brick, using headlight bricks and adding some 'angled vents', etc. Or simply adding a few studs or round elements in certain places. Take for example this guy's MOCs. They all make use of certain pieces to add a bit of an aesthetic profile to the robot parts. Another approach you might wish to explore is merging System and Bionicle/HF/Technic. Some builders use such techniques to arrive at outstanding results. Now, I'm not saying these things can just be improvised instantaneously and that your style will improve overnight; it takes a lot of patience and time to develop your own techniques. So just keep pulling parts out of the massive LDD inventory, connect them in strange ways, and see what comes out! LDD is best enjoyed with a dash of boldness, so always be ready to explore new ways of combining parts together
  3. Not bad for a start! Looks a bit too blocky though, so you would have been better off using sloped bricks in some places. Also, it could have benefited from a few textures here and there. Also, no weapons?! Finally, it reminds me a lot of some Mega Bloks robot figures we got all the way back in early 2000's.
  4. Wouldn't Skull Swordsman have made more sense? Anyway, nice MOC. Love the use of the snowflakes as handguards.
  5. Huge thanks to all of you who have had things to say about this project! Be certain that this is not the only Collab we'll be doing together. Stay tuned for more coming soon(ish)!
  6. I'm a fan of the game of chess, and I've always wanted to create an LDD Chess set. So three months ago, I approached TheOneVeyronian about collaborating on an LDD chess set with constraction figures as the pieces, after having seen her stellar work on LDD models. And so began a large collaboration project, one that spanned almost all of summer. And it brings me great joy to be able to share with you the fruits of our labor: The CCBS CHESS COLLAB! GIF spinnie - LXF file The theme of this board is "Light vs Dark". TheOneVeyronian was responsible for the Dark Side characters, which comprise of a hodgepodge of mutant insectoids, ethereals and necromancers, while the Light Side characters, built by yours truly, are mystical energy beings in armour. (If you're wondering, yes, TheOneVeyronian has given me permission to post her characters here, likewise I've given her permission to share my pictures in a topic on EuroBricks ) So, without further ado, here are the individual characters: Dark Side Characters by TheOneVeyronian Pawns GIF spinnie - LXF file The Dark Side Pawns are akin to alien drones, and are the children of the Queen. Usually, chess pawns are uninteresting at best, but TheOneVeyronian tried to give each of the 8 pawns some individuality, altering their secondary colour but keeping their primary colour black. Rook GIF spinnie - LXF file This originally started out as a mutant tree, however, when TheOneVeyronian compared its size to the rest of the figures, she went back and revised this piece completely. All that remains of the tree is the stump, and now it's home to a giant mutant worm (and her personal favourite ). Knight GIF spinnie - LXF file Basically a mutant ghost horse with horns, on the back of whom rides a Ghostling with a Skull Mask. You can even see the reins from the back, held by the rider's hand. Check out the spinnie for a better glimpse of the rider Bishop GIF spinnie - LXF file A creepy alien necromancer and controller of the ethereal Dark Knight (nothing to do with the Batman films ). His deadly Skull Club serves two purposes as both a necromancing staff and a Light Side bashing weapon. It's advisable to not be diagonal to him Queen GIF spinnie - LXF file Mother of the Pawn characters and the most powerful piece in Chess, it was only right to make the Queen the most beautifully grotesque insectoid being I could. She looks beautiful, kind and caring to the Dark Side characters, but hideous and absolutely deadly to everyone else. King GIF spinnie - LXF file Lastly the KIng, a mutant 4 armed insectoid centaur (goodness knows why) with an affinity for dark blood rubies and ridiculously oversized crowns that looks more like a conical hat. He lets his wife the Queen do all the fighting and prefers to try and not get involved. Light Side Characters by Mohamed Marei (yours truly) Pawns GIF spinnie - LXF file (The Brickshelf links all lead to TheOneVeyronian's Brickshelf, for convenience ) My idea for those was to remotely resemble Roman Centurion warriors, with the Shield and Helmet clearly conveying that part. However, I opted in for an axe as their main weapon since LDD did not have a sword shape that I felt would suit them. You'll notice that there are slight color variations across them, with some parts of them in different trans colors. Those are to keep the pawn pieces distinguishable if an actual game of chess was to be played using this board (LDD file). Rook GIF spinnie - LXF file Originally I was trying to build a Machine Golem or some sort of Construct Being, but then I opted in for a kneeling, hammer-wielding warrior that towers over the pawns. One of my favorites in spite of its relative simplicity, particularly the shoulder armor bit. Knight GIF spinnie - LXF file The crown jewel of my creations (on this board that is!). I've been forever trying to make this head design work with a beak that wasn't absolutely misaligned and silly-looking, and I think I managed to pull it off! I'm also proud of how the wings turned out. This bad boy is also a mount for a Knight, which you can see better by clicking the link to the spinnie! Bishop GIF spinnie - LXF file One of my more "ordinary" looking characters, and featuring a decorative ornament design on the back. I quite like how I did the head as well as his shoulder armor. Queen GIF spinnie - LXF file Her Royal Highness is a decisive Seraphic Queen, a conqueror of the shadows and a force to be reckoned with. The hovering stance along with the wings help accentuate the versatility and sheer power of the Queen as a chess piece. This is basically a revamp of one of my older builds, with a few changes made to it to help it better fit the role of Queen. The parts that have been modified are mainly the head, shoulders, addition of wings, and the staff. Click here if you want to see what it was before. King GIF spinnie - LXF file The King, quite honestly my least favorite piece, but the biggest on my side of the board (if I remember correctly). I like how the head and sword turned out, but not much else to be quite honest. I think the cape could still use a bit of work, but by the time I got to the King I was itching to complete the whole build. Nevertheless, I still enjoyed building it, along with every other character in the Light Faction. Some final things to say Credit goes to TheOneVeyronian for the renders of all the pieces as well as the spinnies. I was responsible for designing the chessboard as well as modifying TheOneVeyronian's initial base design. The entire project comprises over 8000 bricks, and took us almost all of July and a good portion of August to hatch out, with our plan to design one piece each week. So, I hoped you enjoyed the fruits of this collab project (the first one I've done, and I doubt it will be the last either). Comments, constructive criticism and naming of favourites always welcome Signing out... for now
  7. I don't think this kind of topic is allowed here. You need to have some sort of MOC built. I've tried my hand at a few mechs/suits in the past, and some more in the future hopefully, but it's usually quite hard to build them to look very sleek, depending on how big the character is. But this should be posted elsewhere.
  8. In the theme of creepy crawlies, I present to you... possibly the least creepy crawly you can imagine! The Rainbow Kraata Transport, built using exactly 20 pieces! Rainbow Kraata Transport by Mohamed Marei, on Flickr
  9. I know it's kinda silly to ask but you said the virus is slowly turning him all metal. So are the all-metal parts keetorange? Your description wasn't that clear in that regard. My coffee hasn't kicked in yet so my brain is kind of struggling That aside, not a bad MOC at all! Really like the consistency throughout.
  10. I actually think she has more in common with Nidhiki than Krika, but I was considering giving her a Crast at some point before I came up with the head idea. Thanks though!
  11. "Should you fall into one of her numerous traps, a fate far worse than death awaits you, young grasshopper..." Nydoretha, Netherealm Empress by Mohamed Marei, on Flickr "A savage, devious, relentless Queen of the World Below. Known for her cunning and unrivaled strategic prowess, she plans her attacks on the world of the living when they are least expected. If you somehow manage to miraculously escape her lethal grip, your days as a regular denizen of the world are numbered, as a powerful toxin slowly spreads through your body and enslaves it to her will; she sees through your eyes, and hears what you hear. And kills what you hold dearest, by your own hands." A contest entry for the BZPower Flickr July Contest. The whole MOC started from the abdomen area (the two Tridax pod ribcages which are connected head-to-head, with an insect cocoon housed within them), which I should say I managed to do a good job on I wanted to limit the use of clashing colors on this MOC, but had to somehow balance the amounts of gunmetal and silver. Gunmetal comes into play in just the hands and the oddly-shaped rear (the Fire Lord helmet added some nice curvature to the rearmost point on the MOC, and so did the zamor sphere launcher parts). And Gold is restricted to the crown and the pelvis area (not sure it would still qualify as a pelvis though LOL!) The rest of the pics I took can be found here Enjoy, and do let me know what you think!
  12. Toa Mahri Jaller is easy...just put the Protector of Fire's mask on Tahu Okoto and give him different weapons And maybe swap out some of the gold for orange.
  13. I thought that as well. I think Takadox's and Kalmah's are possibly the wrong way round, but for the life of me I can't remember the correct way, the last time I saw those symbols anywhere else was 8 years ago I wouldn't call Kalmah's a particularly sturdy design though - his torso's solid enough but his arms are prone to falling off Fair enough, hence my edit to my previous post. I'd still like him even if he didn't have any arms at all
  14. I think you already know my thoughts on these. They're absolutely brilliant, all of them! I do have favorites, however, which are Mantax, Kalmah and Carapar, all for having much sturdier-looking torso constructions than the others. And I think BioSector got the symbols wrong :/
  15. The hind feet would definitely use the toes in the back to give the feet some contrast. Right now they're too....well...black you could try some yellow 1x1 clips with horizontal clips and put the white plates with teeth underneath. Or you could opt in for something simpler, like the clip with the hole and some cow horns. Alternatively you could use the claw piece from the Constraction Chima sets of last year, the one that came with Chi Panthar (though not particularly sure it comes in white). But I really feel the black in the hind feet should get a little bit of contest.
  16. Anyone here play Torchlight II? Such a great game! It's probably the only thing I've ever needed Steam for. I've had it since Sunday and already played 20 hours, made it all the way to lvl 35! If you need a hand you could always call on my torch to light your way (and by that, drop me a PM or something )
  17. Really think it should have had toes on the hind feet but other than that minor nitpick nothing else to criticize. It's a stunning MOC with ingenious construction all around, including the eyes. Really what else could one expect from a builder of your talent?
  18. Looking for 5 similar grey (ideally) Krataa for use in a project. Any back pattern will do, considering I'm going to paint them with washable colors for my project. For those who have any such pieces please post here. Note that I'm residing in the UK but will be inclined to pay for shipping if you have what I need. Please let me know if you have anything for me!
  19. I have an unopened Breakout Rocka that I might want Nuparu for. Though it seems insufficient, I could squeeze in a Protector of your choosing. Only catch though is I'm in the UK.
  20. I know what I'd be attempting with those axe blades is some sort of wing arrangement rather than an oversized pair of weapons. In any case, it looks a lot like the official combo, which is not necessarily a bad thing. But I really wish you tried and put some more flavor into the build.
  21. Excellent layering and armor placement. And color combinations are very well thought out.
  22. Really like some of the techniques you've used on here, but I think you ought to have used a more coherent overall aesthetic. Basically, instead of using mismatching armor pieces, try and look for armor pieces that share certain motifs/stylisation and use them on the same MOC for a more consistent look. Also, I'm not too sure of some of the piece placements, like the chest pieces on the inner side of the forearm. Also, I really appreciate the use of the lion heads as shoulders; it's one of my favorite pieces. So all in all, good MOC (and cool weaponry) that could benefit from more consistency in general.
  23. Looking through some past Exo-Force sets and realising just how cool that theme was :/
