  1. I happen to really like the color scheme of this MOC. It really stands out as a unique color configuration, simply due to the flawless execution. The torso armoring is ingenious, and my do I love those blades! Those come from 8103 Sky Guardian, one of my favorite Exo-Force sets of all time. Even though I have 4 of those blades, I wish I had the set. Realised I had quoted the wrong text yet again LOL
  2. Where did you get that Kakama in tan? Looks really cool. They're all kinda bland though. Might have been nice to add a bit of artistic license to each one; some detail here and there would go a long way.
  3. Dude your renders are great! How long do they usually take? The MOC itself is fantastic no question but I'm quite possibly getting into rendering so I want to know what it will involve. However, I have quite a few things going on over summer, so I'll only get enough time to do that later on.
  4. As everyone here said, to make MOCs that look good you should start at a scale you can manage with a few colors. Think about which colors you have in abundance and maybe try to work using them. Then think about which other colors could complement these on the same MOC, and that might give you a very unique color scheme that noone has used before! Also, as much as I hate to admit it, CCBS is quite useful. It gives you a new degree of structure that cannot be achieved with just regular Bionicle. My builds usually comprise a CCBS and technic skeleton with Bionicle and CCBS plating where appropriate. CCBS is immensely useful when you're trying to build something large, since it can give you great reinforcement for parts of your build. As people have recommended before, LDD is a great starting point for CCBS, because you're not restricted to the parts you own. As everyone else has said, I do see potential in the MOC, but it's somewhat obscured by all the clashing colors. Finally, best of luck on future builds!
  5. I was deeply saddened to hear of Sir Cristopher Lee's passing. He was a great actor and musician, the oldest metal performer in history. May he rest in peace. I'm at the midst of potentially rediscovering my taste in metal music. Would anyone be able to recommend some essentials to try out? I quite enjoy fantasy-themed stuff such as Blind Guardian and Pentakill's Lightbringer, and Opeth's Ghost Reveries. If you can think of something as thematic then please let me know!
  6. Hey guys anyone heard of Pentakill? With songs based on the League of Legends universe what could possibly go wrong? Also I think I'm in the midst of discovering my new favorite: Blind Guardian. What a band!
  7. I remember you posted these for the contest that was on here awhile back, am I right? Not overly impressed with these two tbh, they're kinda basic. I find the pet to be slightly less impressive than the hunter, but that's just me. Someone else might completely disagree with me. What I do like though is that they're both coherent with no jarring, out-of-place colors here and there. In any case, don't let my criticism get you down. You're probably capable of some much better MOCs, the Dark Hunter you posted a couple days back being a prime example. Don't hesitate to MOC more; that's how you get better. Best of luck!
  8. This guy is pretty cool. I like how you've used the Vahki heads; I've used them as hip joints in the past myself. I also have experimented with the exact same head technique. I do feel, however, that the chest needs a little something extra. That and the armor needs a bit of reorganizing throughout, especially the knee area. All in all though, it's nice to see the Gen1 style back in action. Well done, and please do post more stuff!
  9. The art of breaking bones. I quite enjoy looking at people practicing it. I can't personally indulge in any form of physical sport due to a long-standing injury. But my (younger!) brother demonstrated some of these moves "on" me LOL. I quite enjoyed these, but for some reason I came here expecting EV3 robots duking it out
  10. This isn't? http://brickset.com/parts/design-53545 I mean, you need another piece for the waist and a couple pins, but its very specialized, and quite clunky. Also, this piece: http://brickset.com/parts/4589953 is quite versatile. Sure, you're not gonna be using it for limbs or what-not, but it's the same deal with a Mata or Metru torso (which are much less versatile). It's basically limited only to torsos (an Inika upper torso is as well), but that's not a bad thing. This piece has quite a few Technic holes to attach lots of different bits. Also, adding a gearbox to it adds a lot more function and interesting Technic building. It's very general but that means it can be used with other things. It can also be used for creatures (most parts can, hence the first C in CCBS), as I've done here: And as for colors, I do really hope they come out with more. That'd be very nice. I think it's reasonable to expect more darker earth tones. Hero Factory was more playful than Bionicle and therefore had brighter colors. This first wave of Bionicle's colors are bright as well, but it's only the first wave. The first wave of G1 was bright as well. I think in the future we should see more colors. ??? http://brickset.com/parts/design-90661 CCBS sells itself for its versatility. I, for one, do prefer textured parts to smoother components normally, but sometimes the textures are in the wrong places and stand in the way of coherence a wee bit too much. CCBS avoids that by having next to no textures, which is also a drawback. CCBS excels in giving models more degrees of articulation using the same (or possibly less) amount of pieces as old Bionicle. However, uniqueness is usually the price paid for this trade-off. Almost all CCBS sets are a bit too similar to each other, with a few exceptions. Witch Doctor, for example, is a mix of CCBS and Technic, and I must say that's my favorite HF set of all time. You said torsos are only good for torsos? En contraire! I've built titans whose legs are basically torsos. One of my current WIP's uses two sets of torsos in each of its legs, which says something about this platform's versatility. At first I had my doubts about CCBS as well, but I think I like it for Bionicle as much as I did for HF. It grants you poseability and coherence at the expense of blandness and over-simplicity.
  11. What have they done since their upgrades? Surely they went on to search for a new tyrant to bring down! I like what you did with a lot of their weapons. Xegan, Tralem and Bruiks (all 2.0) were my favorites. I'd like to see more stuff from you, since you seem to have some awesome weapon ideas. For next time, however, try to come up with some more unique designs: variety is the spice of life after all! Great effort though. Although I do think some of the weapons are more plausable/effective than others. All in all, well done!
  12. I am absolutely gobsmacked!!! These have been instantly prioritized over the Bionicle summer wave!! I mean, tan HF armor plates? That's worth a lot in my book XD I am ecstatic about these, and can't wait to lay my hands on Grevious in particular!
  13. Just saw that trailer.. and oh my. That was completely mental!!
  14. Considering getting Steam at this point. Miss gaming too much. Though probably won't have time for it. Any thoughts?
  15. Excuse me, but how is my entry (The Shadowed One) saying it belongs to Rider of Spiders??! Anyway, congratulations to the winners! 5th place is my highest standing ever in a BBCC, so that's something!
  16. I haven't actually tried it myself yet, but you should look into SimLab. It spares you the hassle of waiting 6+ hours (on a good day) for the render, as well as the conversion from LDD to POV_RAY.
  17. The only disadvantage I see to using LDD is that it doesn't allow some "illegal" connections that might be crucial for arriving at certain shapes/patterns. I try to work around that in most of my LDD models, though. It's pretty cool to use, I feel. If you come stuck while prototyping do let me know. I might be able to help you out!
  18. Depending on the scale you're using, the new Gali 2015 mask could be a decent fit for the torso area. Though I'm not entirely sure how you could place the heartlight details onto that mask. But man, do you have your work cut out for you; it looks like a pretty difficult character to try and replicate! My advice to you is to use LDD first for some prototyping before you could move onto building the actual thing. Granted, you might not find the real pieces in the right colors, but your overall design will be easier to replicate with a much wider parts selection. Anyway, best of luck to you! PS: Try to experiment with these bad boys.. if you have any, that is. You're probably also going to need plenty of ball joints to make this work.
  19. A faithful representation to the original I must say, though I do have a couple comments with respect to the overall construction. Firstly, I think it would look better with more unified colors overall, like using light-grey Technic instead of black and omitting the red pegs scattered around. Also, the tail doesn't seem like it would be able to launch forward very effectively; it needs to be longer. Finally, I think you should mostly use white for the limbs, and limit the grey to structural parts and such. Don't be afraid to try new things. That's how you get better! Best of luck
  20. It's like meeting a unicorn only to have him stab you in the heart with his horn. You make it to the final polls only to have your hopes and dreams utterly shattered! Seriously, the amount of outstanding entries out here is just phenomenal, and I can't wait to see who wins. Seeing as I just wanted to save my face, I voted for mine Best of luck to everyone. It's gonna be a tough one for sure
  21. I quite liked Umbra, although I think he should've been a bit bigger. Umbra is one of my favorite characters, so it would be pretty illogical not to vote for it.
  22. Makuta. Was initially torn between Tuma, Roodaka, the Rahkshi and that guy. In the end I felt a certain appeal to him that wasn't there in the others. Those Rahkshi though, I must say were excellent.
  23. Was torn between the first three entries. In the end went with 3, because of the excellent implementation.
  24. Ended up voting for the Dume-Nivawk combo. That implementation was superb. I know I might be hurting whatever chances I might have, but hot dang this MOC is incredible!
  25. You and me both, buddy. I really thought my MOC had potential when I posted it, and up until I saw the polls I had my hopes up. But oh well
