BIONICLE Books to Return Next Year?

Former BIONICLE comic and book author Greg Farshtey has stated in the "Chat with Greg Farshtey" topic in the LEGO Message Boards that "[his] understanding is there will be books at some point next year, but [he does] not know if a writer has been selected for them yet." BIONICLE books were the main medium of storytelling from 2004 to 2008 and it's interesting to see them return despite declining sales in the end, but whether they tell the main plot or just side stories as well as who's going to write them remain to be seen. Still, BIONICLE's return is getting more exciting with every reveal!

I was wondering if this would make the front page. :P

 

As I said in the Official Bionicle 2015 topic, I think that there will be three books next year. I have no proof for this. I just think its a good number of books for Bionicle to start out with next year. 

Everyone is one choice away from being the bad guy in another person's story.

There is a team in Denmark that is responsible for the story. As for books, my understanding is there will be books at some point next year, but I do not know if a writer has been selected for them yet. That will be up to the publishers.

Well, anything could happen. A lot has changed since 2003, and a lot of publishers lean toward using in-house writers for things now. At any rate, it's too soon to tell if I will get contacted or not.

I really hope Greg gets to write them. Whatever missteps he may have made in the later years, overall I think he's the perfect guy for the job. Someone less familiar with Bionicle might not get it right.

Just as long as Greg Farshtey is involved to some capacity and the original story is adhered to, I'm good. From what everyone has been saying here, 2015 seems to be shaping up to cover a prequel or future story of sorts that expands on the established Bionicle storyline (since the Mask of Creation is something Artakha wore/wears!), which would be fantastic (a flat-out reboot wouldn't seem right). But if I had it my way, I hope that Mr. Farshtey is going to be one of the head writers supervising the books, comics (we can hope!), etc. Either way, I loved and read all the main novels that C.A. Hapka, Greg, and others wrote, so I'll definitely read more of them if Lego decides to start publishing more! :)

The storyline was what captured my interest as the line grew. I quite enjoyed how large the story was getting, with all the places and beings and things to do. I just hope the dimension hopping is dulled down, that kind of threw a curveball into the mix for me, since beings could just be whisked from one dimension to another to solve/create problems.

Wow! :o First the theme, then the website, and now the books?! I am so pumped out. This revival of Bionicle is a miracle! Hooray! Awesome! Oh, yeah! Whoo-Hoo! Greg is the man!:)

Anyway, it's great to see the books again. I missed them, including reading them. The books were great in 2001-2010.:)

Really pleased that books are coming back. Hopefully they'll be as in-depth and developed, if not more, than the Bionicle books before it. It was the best way to get into the story in more detail and it was wonderful.

 

Let's reduce the number of serials and keep it simple. I think, at least for me, is where the problem began. Not so much a convoluted story as people keep saying, but how the story was being presented through various outlets during the same timeframe. This includes the various guides as well, as awesome as they are.

 

Journey's End (which is great) should've been a book relased everywhere else beyond Poland (among other stories). Exculsive books like that are also an issue, I feel.

 

Anyways, I'm happy the medium for Bionicle's story is coming back. The books were the way to go starting in 2004 towards the end.

I'm not much looking forward to more books. See, after 2005 nearly all the story (main and background) was contained in the books, and they weren't available outside North America, so for many of us the storyline became simply unfollowable.

Some of this happened for us, too, with the Poland books, unfortunately. Maybe they'll learn.

That'd be cool if Greg got to write them again, but honestly I think it'd be interesting to see another writer's take on Bionicle. Maybe Greg could do the web serials or something (assuming they bring those back, of course).

 

In either case, this is great news 'cause I really loved the old Bionicle books and think they were one of the best parts of Bionicle back in the old days. Glad to hear they're returning.

Greg's writing was what kept me with Bionicle when everyone else had grown out of it. His ability to make events seem so large and resonant built up the story much better than the Hapka's writing, or even the films. Sad to see he might not write the new books.

At least it was only with Journey's End (and The Crossing I guess). We still got Makuta and Mata Nui's guide. Meanwhile, other countries didn't get any books altogether.
