  1. I know I'm not the only one who would've liked to be informed about this and/or review it before it was put on the website. Good grief, as a staff member who actually gets paid to do this for a living, I would have REALLY liked for one of the things actually ON MY RESUME to actually look tasteful.

For the record, you can have cleaner lines with vectors if it was actually done right, but there you have it. Lyichir was right in that the grid is all over the place and, while things line up, that doesn't mean they make any visual sense. There's no guide for the eye to follow. There's no consistent hierarchy or order. It's a flipping wall of blocked-up text. This also is a huge step backward for mobile friendliness, which I thought we were working toward. The social section is double-blocked for no discernable reason. There's not enough contrast between text and header to actually make it aesthetically clear, and I won't even get started on color.

Sorry but I'm not going to pretend to be OK about this. I'm mad.

At the very least, this is NOT ready to be the default site skin.

  2. Considering how sturdy the rest of the build is in comparison, yes I find them frustrating too. It's a better mechanism for the masks coming off than the simply barely-connected originals were, but it's bothersome to have to put your finger under the eyestalk in just the right way to make any adjustment to the head without having to chase down and reattach the mask afterward.

  3. I've been thinking of it the same way... that's why the either/or discussion doesn't bother me much. Whether it's before, after, or instead of the previous storyline, my guess is that TLG will do its best to neither walk over past facts/events, nor have much to do with them. Given Bionicle already has AUs, it's easy enough to just think of this as another one.

  4. Sounds like something a gnome would do. In one of my two current games, I'm a gnome bard/rogue, so I sneak around and find something to hide in, and then sing (like a didgeridoo, mind you) to boost my teammates while no one can figure out where the heck the noise is coming from. XD

  5. THANK YOU. I thought it was overhyped. It was entertaining, a 12-year-old's dream, but was too set on making jokes to ever properly let you connect with the characters. Plus it was somehow both repetitive and inconsistent (for example, somehow the chick had almost as many taking-it-literal jokes as the guy who was SUPPOSED to, and for some reason he obviously abandoned that role at some point because people were making metaphors and idioms left and right and he didn't seem to notice). It was great for what it was trying to do, but I think back at the things I saw people saying before I went to see it, like "best Marvel movie" and "nearly perfect" and "possible best movie ever" and I just... no. No it isn't.

It was more or less what I would've expected from it, given the trailers. Funny, memorable, but not incredible.

  6. Not only is Greg not an exceptional writer, but even if he were, BIONICLE doesn't necessarily need an exceptional writer.

I wouldn't call him one, but with the exception of all the stupid mid-combat one-liners, I really liked his style.

Nothing needs an exceptional writer. The point is that, naturally, a better writer would be better. Frankly if the writing style gets shallower than Greg's (and I don't mean simpler, simpler is both good and necessary this time around), I will be very disappointed, and my fandom will likely go from just the comics and sets to just the sets. That'll be really off-putting for me... it could honestly be one of the only things that would end my participation in this franchise.

  7. I wish more image hosting sites were as simple as these, though. All these flickrs and photobuckets and whatever seem unnecessarily complicated and fancy shmancy to me. All I want is a place to dump my stupid pictures I don't need all this fancy gadgetry or whatever. The simplicity in brickshelf and majhost are their selling points and I wish they weren't so inconsistent with staying up.

Exactly. I like it because it's little more than a filesystem, plus a bit of tagging. No comments, sharing, fancy UI, blah.

I just wish it worked more often. D:
