What it says here. Happy 15th anniversary to Bionicle’s 2006 storyline! It’s where six of our Matoran friends, Jaller, Hahli, Kongu, Hewkii, Nuparu, and Hewkii, became new Toa called the Toa Inika, and they went to fight against a team of six evil lizard monsters that are counterparts to Toa called the Piraka. The Piraka are from a species called Skakdi, and they were once members of the Dark Hunters until they went rogue. The Piraka are Zaktan, the mysterious air-using leader who can turn into tiny insects called Protodites; Hakann, the egoistic fire-using guy who can shoot mental blasts; Vezok, the water-using spy who can absorb and copy powers; Avak, the stone-using engineer with the big cheeks who can make prisons that can counter his enemies’ abilities; Reidak, the strong earth-using hunter who can adapt to things; and Thok, the ice-using guy who can make inanimate objects to life and use them as weapons. The storyline happened because the Toa have to find a Legendary Kanohi with a mind of its own called the Kanohi Ignika, aka the Mask of Life, to heal the Great Spirit Mata Nui to prevent him from dying, otherwise their world will be collapsed. The mask is located in the island of Voya Nui, where the Piraka are here to steal it. They used Makuta Teridax’s essence called Antidermis to enslave all but six of the island’s Matoran residents. The Piraka teamed up with a rogue guardian of the Mask named Brutaka. The Toa Nuva couldn’t defeat these guys. Things get worse when a seventh but rogue Piraka named Vezon, who is actually a part of Vezok and is crazy, like the Joker from DC Comics and Gollum from The Lord of the Rings, got the mask and has an enlarged Rahi spider called a Fenrakk as his steed. The Toa got help from another guardian and Brutaka’s ex-friend named Axonn, who is Bionicle’s own Hulk from Marvel. The Toa freed the people and faced many battles, including one with Umbra, who is a guardian of the mask who has light powers. When the Toa reach to Vezon and fight him, Fenrakk was turned by the mask into the mighty Kardas Dragon. However, the Toa defeated all of the Piraka and the dragon and Matoro got the mask because it chose him to be its bearer, but the dragon hurt Matoro, and this caused the mask to fly into the ocean, which caused the events of the 2007 storyline, with the Barraki and Mahri Nui, to happen. The storyline has five chapter books, five comic books, a video game called Bionicle Heroes, which is one of the best things that Bionicle has, and a bunch of online games, including the Voya Nui Online Game. Sadly, there is no direct-to-video movie for this for some reason (why?). However, the 2006 storyline is one of my favorite storylines because of the content that it has. This year also was the last year to have a combo Titan set, which is Vezon and Kardas, for some reason (why? Because of the budget?). But, I love the sets. The spines, glowing red eyes, and glowing teeth of the Piraka are cool. So are the squishy masks and light-up swords of the Toa Inika. We also got some promotional videos, like “Yo, yo, Piraka”, which is a rap song with the Piraka, and The All-American Rejects’ song with the Toa Inika called “Move Along”. These songs are awesome. How do you feel about the storyline? What’s your favorite moment and set? I love the fights, and I love Reidak, Nuparu, Axonn, Brutaka, and the Vezon sets the most. The video game is quite awesome for how complete it is compared to Bionicle: The Game in 2003 because nothing gets uneven. The game may have glitches and it’s a bit repetitive and tedious, but it’s a very good game, and it should be remastered to have better graphics, set accuracies, dialogue with voices, and get rid of the glitches. I love that the game references to Bionicle’s past years before 2006, despite Bionicle not having its 5th anniversary celebrated for some reason. We got a lot of fan favorites in that year, and this is the first year where we got sets that have bendable arms and legs and can have human-based body structures at the same time (we always see people with stiff limbs, Toa Metru’s shoulders being in a V-shaped position, and uneven arms from the past years before 2006). I also love that the Toa have their own evil lizard-based counterparts to fight, despite the monsters having limited elemental powers that require using certain weapons or others. Fond memories, and I wish we can have that again if everything goes well in Lego Ideas’ voting campaign with Bionicle as a choice this year. That year was also the only year to have a Great Being in a set, who is happened to be in in disguise of a Matoran named Velika. That year was the second year to have play sets, where we have mini-figures that are made of many pieces rather than one or two (2005 was weird). This year also is the first year to have canister villains with individual personalities rather than swarm enemies. We got some combo models, and one of them, Irnakk, was sold as a set that has the exclusive golden Thok spine and Technic tubes. It’s a pity that Jaller, Kongu, and Matoro don’t have a combiner. If they did, I would imagine it would be a bulky-looking Toa, like Jovan. Plus, how come Irnakk got a set box rather than having the other three-canister set combiners get them, too. This year is basically the last G1 year to have new designs before the other years used much of the same pieces.

I don't really have any rules for this thread. What makes your bionicle collection unique? Is it a rare part you have, or perhaps specific memories with the sets you own? Or maybe you have mocs that no one else does? Why are you glad you have your collection and not someone else's I've been officially collecting Bionicle since 2007, and I've spent a good amount of time rounding out my '01 rahi collection. One thing that I have that not many other collections do are mnog-only rahi like Mahi and Brakas. I also have a custom resin vahi crafted for me by ZiosCustomLego on Etsy. What do you all have that's unique?

Authors note: Since my interest in Bionicle was reignited recently, I thought it might be a good time to write a story that reboots a bunch of my old characters. To put it simply, this is a sort of writing exercise to see what I can do with my preexisting ideas and characters. Most information was lost, but I at least have their names and appearances, so my past self has left me with a lot of blank slates to piece together lol. As for the story itself, it more or less exists in its own bubble and any canon references are baseline at most. Very stream-of-consciousness, planning ahead is for squares /j (discussion topic here) I. “A place for everything… and everything in its place.” Kier smiles down at the scene below from his venerable perch on the mezzanine. Queues of a many number of Matoran, forming a spectrum of any manner of build and character, make their way through immigrant registration to receive their reassignment and file neatly into the reception area. The Turaga’s heart swells as he watches them wait eagerly for their passage into their new lives, now free from whatever horrors and hardships they left behind in the bitter, brutal world beyond the island. Cahlra Nui. Peaceful. Productive. Perfect. Kier could lose himself in his idyllic fantasies, but he must perform his duty first before life can go on. Taking modest steps down the stairway, he approaches the crowd of Matoran with a humble smile, tinged with a warmth fueled by the mellow fire that still burns within him. “My my, what a colorful bunch of new faces I see today. I am Kier, pleased to make your acquaintance today as your Turaga and overseer of public relations. I’m sure you’ll find your journeys, however long or short or weary they may have been, made worthwhile in joining our well-oiled society. Put all the doom and gloom of your past lives and the outside world out of your minds, for you have arrived at the shining light of peace and opportunity. “Now, there are just a few more steps ahead that will prepare you for integration into the public, but with a bit more patience it will be over before you know it. Once our transportation has whisked you away to your designated Distra, you will begin Duty assignment. Er, well, “assignment” is a rather harsh word, of course you will get to choose what path fits you most. There’s nothing I can’t stand more than someone forced to do a job they detest, you hear me? Here in Cahlra Nui, we highly regard the virtue of Duty and do our best to honor it by finding every Matoran their niche. I hope you look forward to prosperous, fulfilling lives here in our Great Island. And now, without further ado, I welcome you into our arms. Welcome to the beginning of the rest of your lives.” The Turaga gives the crowd a bow and ushers the mismatched congregation of Matoran into the hallway behind him. One by one they go by, some giving him a furtive glance, others bothering to spare the Turaga a smile, others still seem wary of their fellow migrants. Nowhere else in all of existence would you find such a variety of Matoran all in one place—some thinly armored with bright hues, others more low-key or even dull in color, many scratched and pitted after lifetimes of turmoil. And as the last of the Matoran files away down the path to their new lives, Kier sighs with relief, content in his efforts to make the universe just a little more bright. He turns and heads back past the registration counters. The Cahlran Matoran manning the counters moments ago have all ended their shifts and headed home. The Turaga leaves the immigration services building and steps out into the late afternoon sunbeams glazing the streets and spiralling structures of Cahlra-Distra in a brilliant glow. Even at the edges of the island’s industrious hub district, the city broadcasts its splendor in all directions, even dappling the gently lapping sea beyond in refractions of light. The streets are bustling with busy Matoran and all manners of transportation— Rahi of all sizes, cargo haulers and light cruisers and personal hoverboards, even simply on foot. As if on cue, a Ta-Matoran riding a large, noble-looking Rahi greets the Turaga. He assists his elder into his respective place on the beast’s saddle and proceeds to escort the two of them home. “As punctual as always, Keld. You are as swift as you are consistent. I think I may fear the day when you’re fated to surprise me instead.” The Matoran takes the joke in stride. “If you’re scared, how do you think I would feel,” Keld chuckles, “if I woke up one day unsure of what I was capable of?” “You make a good point.” Kier nods knowingly, “I suppose the most unwelcome surprises are the ones that come from the self.” ~~~~~~~~~~ Far from the shining island capital, a caravan pulled by huffing beasts of burden heave through the dusty expanse of the Po-Ruku desert. Though the journey is a frequent one, the relentless winds thick with sand are merciless in leaving no trace of a trail every round trip. But safe from the harsh elements within the transport’s sturdy iron walls patiently wait a number of Po- and Fe-Matoran for their arrival to their new home. Across the smooth, rolling dunes, Pofe-Distra awaits them, promising to give them purpose and peace of mind. The sun hangs low in the sky, yet the interior of the transport still simmers with the desert heat. A silvery-black Fe-Matoran has slumped to the side, lulled to sleep by the warmth. Another Fe-Matoran, this one instead rusty in color with an orange Pakari, taps his foot nervously. Two Po-Matoran opposite him eye his anxious behavior with darting glances. “I don’t mean to be rude,” the Matoran with a black Huna speaks up, “but could you ease up on the drumming there, kid? I can feel it pounding in my head.” The tapping ceases as the anxious Matoran stiffens. “Sorry. It’s been a long day. Or couple of days, I don’t know anymore.” “Yeah. The journey’s been hard for all of us, I can imagine.” The Huna-wearer sighs, feeling a bit bad for his fellow immigrant, and tries to lighten the subject. “What’s your name, kid? I’m Heani.” “Favik.” The Matoran swallows despite his dry mouth. “It’s, um, nice to meet you.” Heani nods. “Red eyes, huh? You must be a Fe-Matoran. Where you from, eh?” “Doesn’t matter.” Favik tenses up again, looking at the floor. “It’s not exactly on the map anymore.” “I’ve never met a Fe-Matoran before.” The other passenger, a black Kaukau-wearing fellow who had kept quiet until now, suddenly seems interested in Favik. “Are you guys, like, rare or something?” Heani interrupts his gawking with a curt nudge. “You can’t just ask someone that, have some sense!” But the damage is already done. “Yeah. ‘Rare’. That’s one way to put it.” Favik’s anxiety begins to boil over into anger. “Try ‘hunted to near extinction’. Try ‘watching your friends be enslaved and culled for simply being themselves’. That’s another way to put it!” “I’m sorry, er, Favik, I didn’t know—” The Matoran is taken aback by the outburst. Favik feels a little embarrassed for lashing out at a mere question. “No, no, I’m not mad at you. It’s not you…” He sighs. “Well… at least things will be better now that we’re here. Onwards and upwards, yeah?” He swings his arm in a show of enthusiasm. The others fail to respond to his optimism so he coughs and shrugs off the silence. “I’m uh, I’m Vikela, by the way. I don’t wanna get off on the wrong foot with you here. And, well… you seem like someone who needs a friend. So, I guess that offer is on the table. If you just want me to leave you alone, then that’s fine too.” Favik studies his face and loosens up a bit, straightening out his posture a bit. He comes to the conclusion that Vikela is ultimately harmless, if a bit naive. “I’ll consider it,” he answers without sparing another word. Heani nods in approval. “That’s right, it’s never a bad idea to make new friends. Healthy, even.” He grunts, as if feigning reluctance to impart his feelings on the others. “Would be a shame if we were to part ways after such a long ride together through this desert. You seem like a good kid, I wouldn’t mind seeing you around, yeah? You too, sport.” He punches Vikela lightly in the shoulder. “Just watch that mouth of yours, softy.” A grumbling is heard in the opposite corner of the cabin. The other three reel at the fact the sleeping passenger resumes showing signs of life, as they had nearly forgotten about his presence during all the talk. “Mmrrgh…” he utters, “Why… do you talk like… an old geezer, huh?” The Fe-Matoran squints one of his red eyes lazily at the group. Heani is stunned speechless by the blunt remark. Vikela, on the other hand, bursts into laughter and tries to cough it off as he regains composure. Favik, for the first time, reveals the closest he can manage to a smile. “You got a problem with the way I talk, boy? Old, you say? Now I’m just as able and spry as any one of you, you hear?” Heani shakes his head. “What’s the matter with you, anyways? If you were listening the whole time I might be inclined to accuse you of eavesdropping, kid.” “I’m no ‘kid’, it’s Tamari, got it?” He shifts in his seat to get more comfortable. “So what, just ‘cause I’m dozing doesn’t mean I can’t hear nothing. Ever heard of multitasking, gramps?” As if to prove his point, he closes his eyes and presumably returns to the realm of sleep. Meanwhile, Heani tries to handle this confusing blow to his ego with grace. “Hrrm,” he grunts, “must be some sort of minor difference in dialect. Just a misunderstanding. Yup. Hey now, stop your snickering already.” Vikela covers his mouth as Heani shoots him an exasperated glare. Despite the strange tone shift brought on by the newly introduced Tamari, Favik finally feels even the least bit relaxed and he settles into his seat for the rest of the trip. The weight of his troubled past begins to ease off his shoulders as he finally allows himself to glimpse at the future ahead of him.

creado para el concurso de TTV, esta fue mi interpretación del personaje Artakha. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Before the contest Artakha was a character that I started working this year as a hobby, in this version I tried to replicate what I worked with Karzahni based on my interpretation of the character, however to participate in the contest it was considered that the figure wasn´t ready to be presented in the competition so it was reworked from the beginning proposing a more orderly concept in colors but which in turn would require more experimentation with the sand green color and get more if necessary. Reviewing the pieces available in the color, I concluded that I should play with simple pieces like the "Ball sockets joins" that Zaktan brings to use them as part of the structure so the sand green tone would be noticed without problems and as a secondary color it was between gray and green dark in a way I wanted to maintain an order in the tones and the gray allowed the sand green tone to stand out without problems, looking for the use for the ben 10 pieces, I decided to use the torso armor for the character's shoulder pads and thus amplify the green tone of the model, this was also influenced by seeing how the models of the line use large pieces to give that sensation of strength in the character. Lego pieces were also used for small details, these same easy to remove, I also put my efforts in making a construction that was dynamic so that the limbs such as legs, arms as well as the pelvis of the character can be separated and kept without touching the joints of the figure, also thinking about the stature of the figure, and the elements that accompany it, I concentrated on making the figure as stable as possible. Hi all! Please check out and support my BIONICLE project on LEGO Ideas! BIONICLE Legacy aims to please longtime fans as well as potentially attract new ones. I wanted to remain faithful to original story motifs while also leaving an element of open-endedness so as to encourage a wider appeal. BIONICLE Legacy: Storytelling with the LEGO Brick My questions for you all are as follows: #1. In a future update, I feel like I need to further justify why Takua is included as a figure. I think adding another play feature for Takua would be beneficial. But the total piece count for BIONICLE Legacy is already at ~2850, so I’m trying to think of something that could be economical parts-wise, but also add play value to the set. Any thoughts? #2. Do you have any advice about other fan groups you may be aware of that may be interested in supporting this idea? Where else can this idea be promoted? I hope you can help this project get on shelves as an official set! Thank you!

hello there, boys and girls! well i had this idea for the past 24 hours now for a topic about the Toa Mata, but with a twist! so, this time around i think we should discuss who the most Overrated and Underrated Toa Mata is! now this is all just pure opinion and does not intend to trigger folks! this is meant for fun and it acts as a way for folks on here to get to know each other based on their opinions on their favorite/not favorite Toa Mata! so let's try and keep this as civil as possible without trying to trigger people and making them rage-quit like an angry Kane-Ra bull! lol so the way it goes down is this; a user says who he/she thinks is the most Overrated Toa Mata and explain why! same goes for the Underrated Toa Mata, say who it is then explain why! then add your "Ratings" for the two Toa Mata you've selected at the end ov your post! the next user then gives their Overrated/Underrated Toa Mata + eplanations + ratings, and so on! you may disagree with a user's choices/explanations but please be nice about it! as the old saying goes; "if you can't say something nice don't say anything at all!" this is not meant to be a game, but if one is so inclined to treat it as a game (such as life itself, am i right? lol) this may have to be moved to the Games & Trivia (i think that's what it's called...) section! this will be interesting! so here we go! i'll start (ov course); Overrated Toa Mata: Tahu Reason: he's just everywhere! it seems to me that EVERYONE ranks Tahu as their favorite Toa Mata! his Kanohi Hau is like the "poster-boy" ov the six Great Kanohi, while Tau himself is the "poster-boy" for the entirety ov Bionicle's existence! sure the original Mata design is iconic and the Nuva design was good too, but when the Mistika were revealed oh boy people were ticked off! and finally the Stars Tahu came out and that sealed his fate right there! his personality i'm not the biggest fan ov but it suits him being the hot-headed leader ov the Toa Mata! it also seems as if Tahu's demeanor changed over time, which is weird! it just seems like everybody worships Tahu as the most beloved Toa ov fire in Bionicle's existence! he's a great leader, sure, but seeing him as the "poster-boy" ov Bionicle really kinda degrades his purpose as the iconic leader ov the Toa Mata! Underrated Toa Mata: Gali Reason: it seems to me Gali doesn't get as much love as she should! yes, i know, there are plenty ov Gali fans out there, BUT, i'm not seeing a lot ov them! being the only female Toa in the team she tries to keep the team together as best as she could without resorting to washing them down with her water powers! she is a kind and wise character, but if you get on her bad side you better make sure you know how to swim before she flushes you away (lol)! her Mata design is iconic although some folks don't appreciate her hook weapons! they're useful! her Nuva form is also awesome with her having actual hands! the Mistika variant was shunned by folks but i liked it! i mean, it's not her best form but it certainly isn't awful! she is caring and a good soul! she may have flaws (like her 'jokes') but they're minor! bottom line is; Gali has a special place in my heart and i just wish i knew any Gali fans out there! cuz' honestly, i don't remember seeing anyone anywhere who is a major fan ov Gali besides myself! and that's sad! Ratings: Tahu, 3/10! Gali, 9/10!

This is it! The twentieth entry in my BZPower blog! Why is that significant? Probably because I just decided it would be! Blog-like writing has been a theme of my internet presence from near the beginning of my teenage experience. I got my first blog on Blogspot.com (now just blogger.com) in January 2004. My English teacher wanted us to create personal blogs for writing exercises outside of class, a new concept to 15 year-old me, but apparently, some of my peers had discovered Xanga (remember that!?) by then. Anyway, it was pretty simple. I wrote in it weekly based on whatever prompt my teacher assigned the class, but occasionally, we got the chance to do free-writes and write about whatever was on our minds. This was something I re-discovered joy in, for originally, I had to keep a journal (with paper! The primitivity!) back in the sixth grade. I actually had fun writing in it daily, but I was naive and thought my expressions within were private. Unfortunately, some imp pulled my journal out of the class stack one day and revealed some things I had written about another person. It wasn't nice , but the exposure was cruel, and I was humiliated in front of the class for it. After that, I became very wary and anxious about doing any kind of personal writing. Therefore, my lesson learned, I was able to outgrow my anxiety and thrived in blogging years later in my English class. Even after school ended for summer vacation, I still posted a few times over the summer. By now, commenting was enabled, and some of my peers could read and comment on my thoughts. But most gave up their blogs permanently after the school year, so I was alone. In time, I abandoned the blog as well. A year later, in 2005, new friends introduced me to Myspace. I was hesitant initially, but since a lot of these friends I wanted to keep in contact with over long distances, I decided to embrace it. And of course, once I found out that you could write your own blogs on your page, I was hooked. I wrote regularly on that thing from 2005 to 2008, usually juvenile, smart-aleck kind of stuff that only a cocky high school kid would write. Other times, I'd get a bit introspective or remark on local events in my town and high school. Eventually, I started adding more friends from high school, so there often lively comments and bulletins exchanged between us. Several friends actually complimented me on my writing, and that encouraged me to write more. In 2007, with the end of high school nigh, I joined another social media site: Facebook. Once again, I found Facebook (it was a lot simpler back then!) had a blogging function (of sorts) called Notes. It was a lot cleaner-looking than the Myspace blog, so I started writing some thoughts down there, too, often copying and pasting them into my Myspace page later. As my friend count on Facebook increased steadily into college, I started to give Facebook more precedence with blogging. Eventually, spam bots, glitches, and general lack of activity on Myspace forced me to give it up in late 2008. The future would be with Facebook, and as of this writing, I have almost 90 Notes written on Facebook. It would be more, but my output seriously started to lag after college, as did my readership. I think Facebook encouraged this, as they sidelined the Notes function more and more until it was almost invisible to the casual user. Plus, I think most people don't like reading too much anymore. Where does the BZPower Blog fit in all this? Well, if you scroll back through my 20 entries, you'll see my first post was in 2006, during a renewed Premier membership in the summertime. So, that was back in the Myspace heyday. It was kind of a "secret" or "joke" blog, since I made no connections in it to my "real" identity on Myspace. I wanted to keep my BZPower and BIONICLE fandom separate from the "real me" in high school, which, looking back, was kind of dumb. I was already a nerd, BIONICLE fan notwithstanding! Speaking of secret blogs, I also kept a Livejournal from 2005 to 2007. I mainly did it to get in touch with an old crush from my middle school days. That sort of didn't work out like I had hoped, but there is definitely some interesting writing on there that was not on Facebook or Myspace. With this twentieth entry, I have been more prolific on BZPower's blog than anywhere else in the past two years, if not more. I guess I like the fact that this blog is still a bit removed from my non-BIONICLE identity, and part of me is fine with the reduced traffic on this site now that BIONICLE is dead and buried. I feel like I am contributing to an archive for one of the internet's lost tribes--a dwindling folk who still remember their past and customs even as time and society pass them by. Someday, there may be nothing left of BZPower but these forums and the blogs. In that way, it pleases me to be doing my part in ensuring some memorial to my presence here, a veritable "BIONICLE Guru was here" epitaph on the gravestone in the cemetery of the Internet's never-quite dead.

I was driving to visit my mom this past weekend and over the course of the two hours on the highway, I tuned into SiriusXM's "Pop2K" station. I was pleasantly surprised to hear that they were doing a countdown of the top 30 songs for this week in 2001. As I listened, I was instantly transported back to August 2001, just as my seventh grade school year was starting. Just like the Toa, I was about to enter a strange, new world filled with challenges and potential new friends. Music has always been an essential part of BIONICLE, from the ambient, techno-tribal sounds of the island of Mata Nui to the pop rock infused chords of the "Ignition" Saga. But even outside of BIONICLE media, other music played a strong role in my associations with the time periods in which BIONICLE was extant. No other time period is perhaps so poignant now, looking back, than in August 2001. Remember, at this point, BIONICLE was in wide release. In the USA, store shelves were filled with Toa canisters, Turaga boxes, mask packs, and assorted Rahi sets. In a few weeks, the McDonald's Tohunga give-away with Happy Meals was to begin. And of course, the BIONICLE storyline was in high gear with new updates in the MNOG and the recent July comic, "Deep Into Darkness". Back to the music, the summer of 2001 was revelatory for me. I grew up in a household where my parents had so far dominated the musical tastes of the family. At home, we either listened to classical music on the radio or, when just my mom was home, Spanish music which I understood little of at the time. On road trips to visit grandmother or longer vacation adventures, my dad would play the oldies' station (hits of the 50s, 60s, and 70s) or, when we had a car with a CD player, his own collection of Beatles' songs. That was pretty much all I knew music to be. Current pop music was relegated to furtive, almost risque, encounters through friends at school. An illicit listen to "M.en In Black" by Will Smith on the bus ride home from school. A friend bringing the new "Astro Lounge" CD to class on Friday for free time. I was never allowed to hear such music on my own at home or with family. There was a weird separation there, enforced by my parents. However, it couldn't last long. By the summer of 2001, I was twelve years old and adolescence was upon me. Instead of the usual mom-administered enrichment activities, my intention to learn HTML coding for the "Build Your Own BIONICLE Website" contest proved to my parents I had undertaken a worthy, educational project of my own, and I was mostly left to my own devices that summer for the first time. Indeed, most of that time was spent reading the HTML textbook and trying out new things with my developing "Tales of the Turaga" website. However, I allowed myself ample free time, particularly in the evenings, to indulge in my other hobby, drawing. I'm not sure when I decided to start listening to music while I drew. Perhaps I did it to softly drown out the noise of my parents watching something boring (but loud) in the living room. It seemed easier to draw when I didn't have TV distractions. But music, especially songs, seemed to bolster my abilities. In my room, I had a small AM/FM radio with cassette player that I started tuning to some of the radio stations besides the oldies'. Although some of the stuff I heard was unremarkable to my ears, other songs stuck out. Songs that reminded of what I heard on my sister's "NOW 5" and "NOW 6" CDs (she, somehow, was allowed to explore music more broadly, and even had a bigger radio, WITH a CD player!) that I knew I enjoyed. Invariably, these songs accompanied some of my first BIONICLE drawings, and when I think about BIONICLE or look back at those crude depictions, I remember the songs I heard back then. Here are some if you want to make a playlist to travel back in time to when BIONICLE was brand new (no Vahi required!). Mixed in were songs that actually came out the year before (like Matchbox 20's "Mad Season", which is still a favorite of mine), but I don't remember everything I heard, and it is likely I conflate some songs that I actually heard once school started but not during the summer nights that preceded it. Regardless, the music I was discovering and BIONICLE "officially" beginning in the USA all went into a benevolent maelstrom that also included the premiere of "Samurai Jack", the announcement of "Attack of the Clones", the first LEGO Legend re-release (10000 Guarded Inn!), and my first taste of true independence (walking alone to and from school). By this week in August 2001, all signs pointed to a momentous school year ahead. Indeed, as September 2001 proved, it would be momentous, but for the whole nation, and not in a good way. But again, like the Toa isolated on the island of Mata Nui, thinking it was their whole world, me and my friends were united in facing the challenges of seventh grade, and that was plenty momentous enough! What's your opinion on knockoffs? I'm talking about those nearly perfect duplicates you can find on sites like Wish, AliExpress, DHgate, and TaoBao. What do you think about them? I personally am not that big of a fan of them, but since G2 is so expensive, you pretty much have to buy them if you don't want to turn your wallet into a nuclear wasteland. Example below

I've been prowling eBay, Bricklink, and Amazon for Bionicle G2. Obviously, I'm gonna give a pass to Amazon considering everything there is overpriced. However, G2 on eBay and Bricklink have seemed to increase tenfold ever since I last checked on them a few years ago. Why? If G2 was a true flop with few people buying it, why would it sell for so much on the aftermarket? G1 sells for relatively cheap, and that line and in an extent it's parts have been gone for almost a decade by now.

Hi, guys. It’s been 5 years since Bionicle G2 happened in 2015. I know that Bionicle is not there now and G2 cruelly got ended in 2016, but let’s be happy for the 5th anniversary of G2. To begin with, in 2014, at New York Comic Con in early October, Bionicle’s return was announced, but Bionicle came as a reboot (don’t leave G1’s unfinished story hanging). Of course, Bionicle was first cancelled in 2010, but we were extremely happy that Bionicle came back! Hero Factory disappeared in 2014 when it happened. G2 is a reboot of Bionicle, like The Amazing Spider-Man movie series in 2012-2014, where six magical and bio-mechanical heroes called Toa, who are versions of the Toa Mata from G1, saving the island of Okoto (it looks like the island of Mata Nui) from a villain named Makuta (a version of Makuta Teridax, but without the “The”) and his evil forces. They have to collect masks to do this, and they seek help from a dwarf-sized guy named Ekimu and other inhabitants. G2 lasted in 2 years rather than at least 3, sadly, so the story is short. There is the 2015 storyline and the 2016 storyline. Here are how the first and second yearly storylines happened: It all started in thousands of years ago, when Ekimu and Makuta are Mask Makers who make magical masks called the Masks of Power (G2’s own Kanohi) for Okoto’s people by using the island’s six elemental forces, Fire, Water, Jungle, Ice, Stone, and Earth. Ekimu’s masks are more treasured than Makuta’s, which made Makuta jealous, so Makuta turned evil. There was a sacred law that now Mask should have more than element, otherwise it would be dangerous, but Makuta broke the law by creating a mask called the Mask of Ultimate Power, the most powerful of all masks, and it contained all six elements. When he put it on, it took control over him and was destroying the island. Ekimu stopped him by knocking the Mask from Makuta’s face, but this kind of ruined the island and put Ekimu to a coma. Makuta disappeared, and the Mask Makers’ masks are scattered. Ekimu’s friends called the Protectors found Ekimu, who whispered the Prophecy of Heroes during his sleep, and then they put Ekimu’s body in a tomb. The masks have to be found. In 2015, in the present, the island is attacked by Skull Spiders, which are searching for the Golden Masks of Power. The Protectors’ latest descendants (their people can reproduce, like Agori) used the Mask of Time, which can see the future and was how Ekimu came up with the prophecy, in the Temple of Time to summon the Toa. The Toa came to Okoto like meteors, as each landed on one of six regions of Okoto that matches his or her element. They are called Masters in 2015. They are Tahu, the Master of Fire, Gali, the Master of Water, Lewa Jungle (rather than Air for some reason, but I can see that he went to the jungle region of Okoto, and it’s reasonable for the younger audience to see things, but it’s weird), Kopaka Ice, Pohatu Stone, and Onua Earth. When the Toa arrived, they couldn’t remember who they are. Each of the Toa meets the region’s Protector, who guides the Toa and leads it to its Golden Mask of Power hidden in a temple. The Toa got their Golden Masks and defeated the Skull Spiders while saving the Protectors’ lives from the spiders. They went to the City of the Mask Makers, where they must reawaken Ekimu. They saw each other for the first time. They fought some other Skull villains, which are the Lord of Skull Spiders, the leader of the Skull Spiders, Skull Warriors, Skull Slicer, and Skull Scorpios, while they learn to work together to be able to defeat their enemies. They found and reawakened Ekimu, who warns them that the Skull villains’ leader, Kulta the Skull Grinder, who is the main antagonist of the 2015 storyline, is going to destroy Ekimu’s mask called the Mask of Creation at his forge. The Toa rush to the forge to stop Kulta, defeating Skull Basher along the way, but Kukta uses the mask to become stronger in order to defeat the Toa and Ekimu. The Toa got weakened by Kulta, but Ekimu rebuilt his powerful hammer and then used to knock the mask from Kulta’s face and defeated him. Ekimu reclaimed the mask. The end of the storyline. This is primarily told through the 2015 online animations and a chapter book. Plus, a graphic novel to make things more specific. Before the 2016 storyline began, the Protectors fought more Skull villains. Then, the Toa and Ekimu fought Kulta again when he has more of his friends called the Skull Raiders to help him. This is told through two chapter books. In the 2016 storyline, the Toa became Uniters by getting new armor, masks, and weapons. The armor helps them control their powers better. Since the masks tell the Toa that there are the six Elemental Creatures needing help from getting captured by Umarak the Hunter and his robotic servants called Shadow Traps, and get the Golden Masks of Unity. Each Toa goes to its region to meet its Elemental Creature. The Creature challenges the Toa until the Toa figures that the Toa and Elemental Creature must work together. The Creature lets the Toa get the Mask. Then, the Toa is able to combine with the Creature by having the Creature attach to the Toa back, like a piggy back ride. The Toa learn from the Creatures telepathically that there is a maze that has Makuta’s mask called the Mask of Control (like in 2008 where the Av-Matoran can combine with the Toa Nuva by attaching their themselves to the Toa’s backs and then sharing their memories with the Toa). The Toa and Elemental Creatures went to find the maze, and then went inside it to find the mask. However, Umarak is in their tail and then took the mask from them because Makuta told him to. Makuta forces Umarak to be his servant by using the mask to turn Umarak into a bigger, more powerful and obedient monster called the Destroyer. Umarak unleashed Elemental Beasts to attack the city, so he can get the shattered pieces of the Mask of Ultimate Power (Ekimu shattered the Mask when he knocked the Mask from Makuta’s face. The mask’s power was too much for it, so it got shattered and then caused Ekimu’s coma. There is a flashback where Ekimu created the Toa’s Golden Masks with the help of the Protectors and Elemental Creatures because of the Prophecy, and Makuta was present the mask in Okoto’s Capital City before he put it on. This is shown in the second graphic novel). When the Uniters were protecting Ekimu’s city, he turned into a Toa of Light and has a seventh Elemental Creature named Agil to be his partner. The city’s people and the Uniters’ Elemental Creatures defend the city while the seven Toa go to find Umarak. They found Umarak in a crater where the incident with the Mask of Ultimate Power happened. They tried to defeat Umarak, but he’s too tough and smart. He is using the mask’s fragments to free Makuta from the Shadow Realm (when the Mask was shattered, it also tore a portal to the Shadow Realm that trapped Makuta and the Capital City in the Shadow Realm). Ekimu changed back while Agil disappeared for some reason during the battle. Gali accidentally had her soul sucked up by the portal. In the Shadow Realm, she learned the rest of the prophecy. When Umarak absorbed Ekimu’s powerful Light blast during Umarak’s ritual with the mask’s fragments and then Makuta cruelly sacrificed Umarak’s life to open the portal, Gali’s soul was able to come back and then went back to her body. She told the Toa that they must use their powers from within to trap Makuta again. Makuta tried to blast the Toa with a Shadow blast, but the Toa resisted it with their powers and then used them to defeat Makuta by pushing him back to the Shadow Realm and closed the portal to imprison him again. This caused the Toa to go back to the Elemental Stars for some reason (why not stay in Okoto like normal people?). However, they can come back when they are needed again. The End of the storyline. In fact, the end of G2. The storyline is told through a Netflix show called The Journey to One in 2016. Now, that’s the story. Let’s talk about the sets. The sets have CCBS (the system that Hero Factory introduced in 2011) and transparent pieces with various colors to represent energies coming from them. Most of them have gear functions, like the Toa Mata and Toa Nuva. They introduced masks with two things that attach to the cheek bones. The sets are bulky with a lot of parts and were expensive. Most of them came in hexagonal boxes. In 2015, the Masters have weapons that have two functions, one for fighting and one for travel, like the Toa Nuva. The Protectors introduced and use machine guns that shoot six studs. You can put the Protectors’ equipment on the Toa to “power the Toa up”. The Skull Spiders can be worn like masks. In 2016, you can combine the Elemental Creatures with either the Toa or Umarak by putting them on their hosts’ backs. Other sets have various functions, including tools that can remove masks from wearers. The sets borrowed a few stuff from Hero Factory and Ninjago. There is a lot more purple than in G1. There are combiner models, but they are not canon. Plus, there’s no combiner models for the Toa Mata’s fusions in G2, neither did the fusion appear in G2 for some reason. However, you can combine Onua Uniter and Umarak the Hunter to make a Shadow Spawn. You can also combine some sets to form Makuta. Speaking of Makuta, sadly, Makuta doesn’t have a set, and the Lego piece for the Mask of Ultimate Power doesn’t exist. There are two app games, Mask of Creation and Mask of Control. I’ve seen better games than these games. G2 is very different from G1 in many ways, but it’s classic that there is the Toa Mata as the main protagonist and Makuta as the main antagonist. There are some references to G1’s stuff. It’s nostalgia. There are various media, which largely involved artwork through Facebook. Now, how do I feel about G2. Well, I think it’s alright. I didn’t like the fact that it lasted 2 years (and I hate the fact that constraction is gone since 2018, and there is not replacement or Hero Factory G2), and the 2015 online animations and Netflix show are kind of wonky and rushed. The story is too simple, is the least good constraction theme, and there are a lot of questionable stuff hanging around. I kind of felt that G2 isn’t what Bionicle is naturally. It sort of feels like a stereotypical Saturday morning cartoon. I like the Toa, Ekimu, Makuta, and Umarak, though. Good thing that G2 has some G1 references. The sets are very great, though, and I love the use of colors for most of them sort of. However, some of them, like the Skull Creatures and the Elemental Beasts, are kind of wonky, and there are weird relationships between colors and story. The Toa Masters’ gear functions aren’t strong enough, like the Toa Mata. Some of them are unequal to each other, like Toa having their own rivals and infected masks. There’s no other G1 characters, either. Just people that we don’t know. To be honest, I like G1 a lot better than G2 because there are a lot of reasonable stuff in there. People say that classics are better. No doubt. Even though that G2 ended (that is extremely not fair because it just came back), many of the pieces introduced in there are used in other themes nowadays. I pray and wish that Bionicle comes back again (perhaps on 2021 to celebrate Bionicle’s 20th anniversary). Anyway, so, how do you feel about G2? What’s your favorite moment or set? What medium or media remind you of Bionicle G2? Whatever you like to think of. For me, I love Onua, Tahu, Umarak, and Mask Maker vs. Skull Grinder. Happy 5th anniversary, G2! I collected all of the sets. The things that remind me are: Bionicle G1 - obviously. Lol. Hero Factory - the use of CCBS. Plus, the Elemental Beasts look like Aquagon and giant Jumper beasts. Umarak the Hunter looks like Black Phantom. Skull Basher reminds me of Pyrox. The Skull Spiders are kind of like the Arachnix Drone. The Quake Beasts are like Bruizer. Ninjago - skeletal villains, brothers having a feud, heroes with elemental powers, and a dark and shape-shifting lord who is in a dark realm. P.I.X.A.L.’s Samurai X mask in 2017 looks kind of like the Mask of Creation. Skull Slicer is sort of like Samukai. Ekimu is like Sensei Wu. The Amazing Spider-Man movie series in 2012-2014 - there are a lot of similarities. Plus, they look more realistic and reasonable. Ekimu’s and Makuta’s brother feud is sort of like Optimus Prime’s and Megatron’s feud. Umarak is sort of like Lockdown. Transformers: The Last Knight in 2017 - Megatron’s look reminds me of the Mask of Control. Marvel - the Toa are like the Avengers. Plus, Umarak the Destroyer is like the Abomination and Kurse. DC Comics - the Toa are like the Justice League, sort of. Plus, Umarak the Destroyer is like Doomsday. Samurai Jack’s Season 5 - the Scotsman has a machine gun that looks similar to the Protectors’ machine guns. Sonic Unleashed in 2008 - the Elemental Beasts’ faces look like Dark Gaia’s. Steven Universe Future - Steven Universe’s giant monster form reminds me of Umarak the Destroyer. In the main series, when Jasper turned into a big and corrupted monster, she looked kind of like Umarak the Destroyer. Power Miners - Umarak the Destroyer and the Elemental Beasts reminds me of the Rock Monsters and Lava Monsters. Plus, Jasper’s corrupted monster form reminds me of Umarak the Destroyer. Star Wars - Skull Slicer kind of reminds me of General Grievous. The Skull Warriors are kind of like the Stormtroopers. For how the Skull Grinder’s Mask is animated in the online animations, it looks like Darth Vader’s mask. The Lord of the Rings - the Lord of Skull Spiders is like of like those giant spiders. Skull Basher concept art makes him look kind of like an Orc. When the Skull Grinder wore the Mask of Creation and then hit all six Toa with one hit, he’s like Sauron. Toy Story - For how the Skull Grinder’s Mask is animated in the online animations, it reminds me of Zurg. Lego Legends of Chima - Using some pieces is one thing. The Elemental Creatures’ heads also look like the Eagle heads. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - the Turtles are like the Toa, Master Splinter is like Ekimu, and Makuta has claws on his left wrist that looks kind of like the Shredder’s. Ultimate Spider-Man TV show - Doctor Octopus is sort of like Makuta when he mutates someone and then turns him into his obedient servant.

Welp, I actually did it. I finally managed to do the Toa Mata as human beings! Gali Mata Lewa Mata Kopaka Mata Pohatu Mata Onua Mata Tahu Mata I'm glad of how they all turned out! I might do the left hand and right hand Matoran and maybe the Metrutoran soon, thank you for participating!
