IC Jarkale

(Ga-Koro, Great Takea):

Jarkale nodded. The team didn't have a lot of money left after buying the ship, but there was enough for a couple of drinks. They had deserved it, having waited for an eternity to get started with the voyage. At least that was what Jarkale kept telling himself.

He pushed open the door to the place, allowing him and Tuarn to enter the place. A great amount of voice filled the place, with several people either arguing or shouting just for the sake of making a scene. It was not a calm place, but a respected one nevertheless.

"I don't mind the noise if you don't."

Voulge waved a dismissive to this offer

"The whole world is my enemy.. But the difference is finding those enemies you can work with.. And no i do not wish to recover my memories.. What i would like is to figure out why i hold this deep hatred.. I know it is for someone... But who i hold such anger and hate towards i have not the foggiest idea.. Just that if i ever discover who they are that i will not stop till either they or myself am dead.."

Voulge waved a hand over the ground and rather quickly all the trace amounts of minerals formed from within the dirt creating a simple metal chair. Slowly he sat down so as to better look at Vail

"Though i am curious.. Why did you choose to kill someone this night? Was it an old rival or dreaded foe.. or was it just a way to release frustrations?"

Ferre nodded. It wasn't just a wise answer - it was true. Perhaps that was what made it wise. Regardless, it was the answer that made sense and the answer that applied, and that was all that properly mattered. But now was the time for sleep and for rest. Ferre stood, and he heard Nei do so as well.

"Well, Nei, it was nice to meet you, and it shall be nice to see you again come the morning. But now, we rest. Tomorrow, we search." He smiled. "I trust you can get home fine? Or would you like me to escort you?"

Nei shook her head, an almost unconscious gesture, before speaking slightly. "No, my home's nearby, I can get there just fine."

Ferre nodded again. "Well then, Nei, I shall seek you out come morning. Sleep well - you're going to want it." As Nei smiled back - something Ferre didn't see - and walked out, Ferre himself turned, walking to where he knew his room would be.

As morning came to Nei's home, a few hours later, so too did the man she'd been speaking to last night. Ferre had - quite carefully - walked across the lilypads to where he was sure Nei would have gone - it would be the only proper residential area so near to the inn - and after asking a passerby which house specifically to go to, he was knocking on the Ga-Matoran's door.

As the others spoke about a trick or such to perform, Edubard smiled, before turning to Ensis. Despite his reservations against the proposal he was about to make - he didn't particularly want anything like the last time he did such to occur again - he knew he needed the practice.

"So, Ensis, while they harm themselves, how about you and I go practice our swordplay a bit?" the Toa of Air asked. "I'm sure we'll find a federschwert and a blunted trainer somewhere - or at least a couple wasters."

"Then let's go speak to her!" the Ta-Matoran half-exclaimed, half-commanded (as though he were the one in charge), as he was certainly ready to start moving off along this little quest he'd signed on for. He stood, leaning on his cane (or staff, however you might look at it) to help him get up, before he started walking out the door - and in a few moments, Nei overtook him, leading off to Hahli's residence.

The guards, their faces set in a stern expression, seemed only to get a little sterner upon the mention of the name. Embok was known to them as a former member of the Daedra, and they held the same distaste - if not outright hatred - for the Daedra that most of Ga-Koro did.

Eutuchia, meanwhile, perked up at the mention of that name. Who would be searching for the Daedra now? Most others in the Koro had been happy to see them gone, good riddance; perhaps this might be something useful...He stepped out to the window, to watch the proceedings.

"We don't particularly care, at the moment, just what it is you want," one of the two said, frowning. "We generally don't like for people to carry weapons in to the Akiri's office - especially not people we don't know much about. We might let you speak to Eutuchia - if you remove your weapons - but you aren't going to go straight to the Akiri without his filing an appointment for you or such."

Eutuchia turned to the other man in the office-space of the hut, quickly filling out an authorization for an appointment - with a hastily scrawled "watch this man carefully" written down next to his signature - before placing it in a sealed envelope. "You can come back within a day or so," he said to Malak'et, "Just show this to the guards at the HQ and they'll set you up a specific time. Now shoo!" Sending Malak out, Eutuchia turned to the two guards outside, just as the Ta-Matoran spoke up.

"We'll turn over our weapons and such," Ferre said, his tone appeasing. "So long as we'll get them back afterwards. We would, however, like to speak to the Akiri." He turned, having heard Eutuchia moving about, and hearing the man's voice. Must be the Akiri's secretary he'd heard about. He handed the guards his sword - and cane, though he didn't particularly wish to do so - along with his pack and what was in it, and hoped that Nei would do the same. The guard on the left took the items, setting them down carefully on a bench nearby, while waiting for Nei to hand over hers.

"As soon as they hand over their weapons, let them in," Eutuchia said. "I'll get Hahli out in a moment, probably - assuming these two are safe, which I doubt they aren't. They've got my permission to come in." As the guard in the lead nodded, Eutuchia hopped back inside, running further back to where the space that was actually Hahli's was, knocking on her door.

"Hahli, you've got visitors, and what they want to talk about might just be something to interest you!" he said.

Outside, Ferre smiled at the guards and Nei.

"Well, there's step one, eh?"

The slow grin that spread itself across Vail's features was enough to keep a Kane-Ra at bay. The Ta-Toa rested his chin on a fist and looked up at Voulge with a mixture of amusement and curiousity.

"I have a problem, you see. An addiction, some might say. Every week or so I hunt at night and kill beings for selfish purposes. This has gone on for years and not once have I been found out." He paused to swirl a finger in the soft dirt. "Those who did discover my actions didn't live long enough to spread the word."

His finger stopped in the middle of the spiral he had drawn. "You're the first I have openly spoke to about my sickness. You might think of yourself as lucky to have made me spill my secrets, but I assure you it will become nothing but a curse for you." Vail's eyes pierced the nighttime shadows with their blaze. They regarded the chair Voulge had fashioned for himself.

"You sit on a throne of uncertainty, Brother, yet I wear the crown of guilt, even if it remains unseen." He made a halo-like gesture around his head, careful not to break the Toa of Iron's gaze. "What I have done will remain concealed, to my last dying breath." Vail cut his sketch in half with a swift stroke.

"So don't go thinking you can get away with anything. Nothing goes unseen by these eyes."

When he entered, Hahli was reading a letter, broken open and stamped with white wax; her gaze was the kind that would send unease funneling through each vertebrae of the most stoic card player; her dagger - the handsome knife Jaller had given her at the summit - hung on a sheath at her hip, its tip ivory from where it had opened the letter.

"You know the thing about ice, Eutuchia? It's so cold and obstinate that it thinks nobody can ever get a good look through its surface. Put enough ice up around you, and you'll be lost to the world. But there's another quirk about ice - no matter how tall or wide you raise the walls, no matter how cold you manage to chill it, there's always water inside of ice, and it always sees."

Her expression was a smile in name only.

"Send them in."

The two visitors filed in, followed shortly and surely by Eutuchia, dutiful as ever; her assistant and courtier stood with his shoulder against the door as it closed without pomp, giving part of his attention to Hahli and the other part to any would-be entrants. Hahli had moved many of her more judicial, governmental, and military matters into the modest office she had once nested in as a Marine. Huts, she decided after Matoro's death, were purely for sleeping, and the neighbors would no doubt tire of hearing a dagger sharpen over and over every night, whether it was a common soldier, an Akiri who lived next door, or Turaga Nokama herself.

"Akiri Hahli," she introduced herself curtly, but not unpleasantly. "I was told you recognized a certain name."

After looking through the pack, to be sure there was nothing dangerous in it, the guards handed it back - before ushering the pair in, just behind Eutuchia. While being let in, Ferre kept a hand out, slightly, nearly touching Nei's - being unable to see and without his cane (as he knew the weapons within it and didn't want to antagonize the guards), he needed to at least have his hand out to be sure of where others were, and to make sure he'd be able to grab something if he fell.

Hearing Hahli and then Nei speak, Ferre spoke up himself.

"Not to reopen old wounds, Akiri, but if you've any information - any at all, even a rumour you've heard or a guess - as to where Embok had gone, it would be rather helpful."

Eutuchia, meanwhile, moved back away from the door, over towards where he had filed quite a bit of the information and records and such the Akiri had, from deals with other Koros to criminal records and profiles from the Marines' HQ. He hoped he might be able to find something in there. And, of course, he made sure to keep some attention on the conversation going on behind him.

Hahli certainly didn't seem to be in a good mood, and judging by Nei's tone, she wasn't either. And - while he didn't consider it too likely a threat - Eutuchia hoped that everybody might keep cool heads and careful tongues.

"I've heard rumors of a new training regimen for the Nui-Rama cavalry in Le-Koro. I've heard news leak in the streets that something's gone wrong in Ko-Koro, with Matoro, the vizier, Reordin Maru, and even Toa Kopaka all acting as lynchpins for various theories. I have Hewkii's breakfast menu for the next fortnight on the finest authority. If I knew any of the Toa Daedra were running unchecked, and heard something of them, they would be here."

"Don't you have anything from what the Marines wrote down when the Daedra ran out, Hahli?" Eutuchia asked, turning away from the files to where Hahli and the others were sitting. "I know it's been quite a while since we heard anything, but I know there was something from rather soon after they left about a few of them, wasn't there?"

"I'm told two or three left together, under heavy fire from a group of vigilantes. The platforms were impossible to move through; the Captain was dead, Kotu was trying to mobilize survivors, and each Marine was under heavy fire from a Daedra or Daedra affiliate. The Toa in question helped another rain down plasma on citizens and soldiers of the Koro alike while the Valkyr made her escape. That's the last anyone has seen of him - of most of those involved, save a few who found employment as mercenaries or soldiers in the other Koros. Again - if I had anything, it would be public. Embok was well known. His betrayal was especially hard on the people."

I glanced towards Edubard, head cocked slightly. Truth be told, it was a good idea. And under most circumstances, I'd have said yes in a heartbeat. I haven't gotten the chance to properly spar with anyone in months, and I haven't had the chance to truly draw my blade in almost as long. For someone like me, going so long is practically torture.

On the other hand, and there is no polite way to say it, I am intoxicated. Not drunk, mind you, I'm only on my third shot after all, but I am intoxicated. And from what I've heard around the ship, my prospective opponent is easily as good a swordsman as myself, and perhaps even a bit better.

To summarize, it would be a duel between myself, intoxicated and rusty, and an opponent equally as skilled and about half as intoxicated.

I should think about this carefully.

"Sure!" I replied cheerfully, after about a second's thought. Carefully, I pulled off my hat and removed my coat, setting them both in my chair. With a stern look at Kualsi and instructions to guard my belongings (He only rolled his eyes. I chose to take that as a "yes".), i stood ad turned to the other Toa.

"Any idea where we might b able to find the gear?"

"I know the Marines almost always keep training weapons handy, and a couple of them hold self defence classes, and I think a few take some particularly gifted students and train them in somewhat more advanced methods of combat," Edubard replied, shrugging. "We could probably ask. They'd likely supervise us, but given our help with what happened in Xa-Koro, I doubt they'll mind just letting us train a bit."

"I doubt they'll mind," Edubard replied, smiling and walking out himself. Having been a resident of the Koro for a good while, he quickly directed Ensis towards the guard house, and - after the guards got over their initial reservations towards providing even a practice weapon to a man in just a slightly-inebriated state - allowed them to take both a federschwert and a blunted broadsword out to an empty lilypad, used for training.

Of course, Edubard also convinced them to provide another federschwert, another blunted broadsword, and a couple trainers for arming swords as well. He hoped to get a good practice in tonight. But, now, the first part. Falling into an en garde stance, he smiled at Ensis.

"Your move, my friend."

The first thing I did, unsurprisingly, was arch my back, stretching the muscles out with a series of pops and cracks. I hadn't had a good practice in quite some time, there simply wasn't room on the Infernavika to do so quietly, away from other eyes. It's not that I had anything to hide, but there are some things that I simply prefer doing alone. Training is one of them.

That done, I plucked the federschwert from the ground, hefting it in my right hand. Balance was good, as was the weight, both nearly identical to my own blade. Unsurprising, that was, after all, what it was designed for. Gripping the handle with both hands, I brought the blade down and to the side, the hilt stopping near my waist, the point of the blade angled upwards. Not the stance I would normally start with, but in this case, it was the best option. With the state of my skills, it was best to be cautious, and this position, of all those I practiced, offered the best adaptability and defense.

"Please, after you. Age before beauty."

"Opening with the plow? Interesting choice," Edubard commented. He didn't know if Ensis knew the original names or the translated versions of the five main guards, though he likely did; and, of course, Edubard knew the proper counters for those guards or any attacks that might come from them. So the Toa of Air slowly came forwards, his sword held in a high guard itself - similar to the ox guard for the longsword - the hilt back by his shoulder, the blade parallel with his eyes, at shoulder level. He didn't have a buckler, dagger (bah, those foyning rapiers), or a cloak (see earlier "bah!") to use as either defence or distraction...but at the same time, he didn't need it.

After a moment or two simply observing Ensis's stance and breathing, Edubard stabbed forwards - first a feint for Ensis's face, before drawing back quickly and instead making a light slash with the tip for his opponent's thigh. Nothing but a simple test, now, though it could easily escalate...

"Slap me."

Partly because he asked for it, and partly because of the stupid grin plastered upon his face, Floria obliged, swinging her arm with her palm held out as hard as she could towards the side of Lohkar's face. Drunkenly, she herself unwittingly let a grin form on her face as she hoped and prayed for a loud and satisfying slapping sound as the consequence of such a dumb request.

Voulge held back a laugh as he heard this

"You think you are so sneaky Vail.. But there are those who are sneakier.. And while i will admit i am uncertain about things i am not uncertain about many things.. Just be warned that my eyes see more than i reveal. While i may not have my full memories i do know one thing.. My job used to be watching and waiting.."

He raised his left hand in the air and held it palm up. With a slight gesture a statue slowly formed in his hand. It appeared to be a simple Kofo-jaga though made fully of Protosteel. He held it out for Vail to see

"I am much like this Insect.. No one thinks to look at me twice yet that allows me to go pretty much unnoticed.. Remember this vail.."

And with that he crushed the statue in his hands almost as if it was nothing despite being protosteel. Though unseen to the Vail's eyes just as Voulge closed his hand around it he transformed the material into something akin to Tinfoil. And with that he tossed the crumpled mass of metal, once again protosteel, to Vail.

I turned, my drink order forgotten in the space of two syllables, at the sound of the finest order ever to be given from the infamous Captain Lohkar, arguable pirate king of Mata Nui.

"Slap me."

Music to my ears, ladies and gentlemen.

Now, okay, maybe I was a tad jealous that it was Floria, the drunken stowaway, rather than your wonderful Gunner, the drunken First Mate, who got to be the one to herald in this historic moment; but, to paraphrase the motto of the Ga-Koro Marines, I figured, "Oh well, that's good enough".

Heh.

How have I not been killed yet?

"This better be one spectacular trick, Cap'n," I called out to the grinning Lesterin. "This here opening act has set the bar pretty high already."

Floria's palm impacted Lohkar's face with a sound that would make a fish jealous.

One moment he was there, leaning unsteadily on the table, drunken grin hung lopsidedly on his face like a carelessly-placed painting - the next he was flung backwards and twisting clockwise, head first and body following, disappearing under the table. A solitary keg rolled slowly out with a hollow wooden clattering.

For a few seconds, nothing happened.

And then the pirate captain burst up from the floor, full of energy, grinning from ear to ear, arms flung out to his sides with a lucid "Ta-da!". All trace of drunkenness was gone.

"Like I said, ol' Lesterin trick. Nothin' like a good slap ta get me metabolism goin'," he said, with a wink and an even wider grin. "I am now completely sober. Thank you very much."

IC: Liano

In the darkness, Liano’s green eyes shone faintly, radiating a predatory glow which suited the forest just fine. Night had fallen, swallowing the land whole and had it not been for the moon, most would wander blindly, easy prey for the monsters that lurked in the dark, such as the Toa of earth. Silence followed him wherever he went, shadows clung to his figure possessively and as he prowled the land unseen, no amount of blackness could obscure what lay before him. Night vision proved exceptionally useful on such occasions, revealing all there was to see, almost as if it were broad daylight.

Though he was known for his preference to waste time in bed, hunting seemed to be one of the very few activities Liano truly derived any pleasure from. Just not during the day; he hated the sun. Whenever he stood under its gaze, vicious blades of light stabbed at his eyes and heat bore into his skin. Rather than suffer its oppressive reign, he avoided it if he could, only emerging whenever the great big ball of fire would go to rest. Earlier that day however, was not the case, since he’d been too busy running away from women and chasing after a disgruntled Barthel. Once their awkward bit of business had finally been concluded, the young man set out on his own, intent on using up what time he had left to make some coin.

Which is why he was out in the wild that instant. If he could bag something by sunrise, someone would surely fetch him a good price for his efforts when he would return to Ga-Koro. That, and it was good sport. At this point, an hour or two had passed since he began stalking the jungle for prey. Several little critters crossed paths with the hunter, though none piqued his interest. No, tonight he was feeling lucky, envisioning a bigger prize than any old wandering rodent. Like say, a Tarakava. Of course, he knew the odds of finding one on the mainland didn't exactly weigh in his favor but there was a possibility nonetheless and that was good enough for him, a challenge he was willing to undertake. It was simply a matter of luck, patience and perseverance.

Several hours of luck, patience and perseverance, to be precise.

Suddenly, a savage roar erupted throughout the jungle, snapping Liano to full attention. Now on high alert, he stood perfectly still, eyes scanning the perimeter for the slightest hint of movement and ears listening for the subtlest of sounds.

Gyeeeeeeeeuuuugh!

There it was again. Pouncing forward, Liano dashed through the foliage like a wolf with the scent of blood in its nostrils, aggressive in speed though careful to maintain a low profile. As he ran, a similar scream resonated once more, albeit in a louder tone this time, an indicator that he might be headed in the right direction. A moment or so later, he wandered upon a stream of water and on the opposite side, the bloody corpse of a Fusa lay at the ‘feet’ of two towering reptilian creatures. Their bodies, sleek yet powerful, wielded their own respective set of menacing forearms, deceptively muscular in their own right. He’d always heard Tarakava were fearsome foes, even for the strongest of Toa, but he wasn't expecting enough brute force to bash the poor kangaroo’s body into a crippled, caved-in carcass.

Luckily, the two beasts hadn't spotted his arrival, allowing him to activate his Huna in the nick of time. With invisibility on his side, he had the liberty of finding a suitable vantage point while his prey feasted on their recent kill. Quietly, he stepped off to the side, hiding by dense leafage and once both were reasonably positioned within his line of sight, the time for action came. With his bow drawn, he slid an arrow out of its quiver and quickly took aim. A single arrow wouldn't be enough to down one of them, not unless he could manage a straight shot to the head, which he was entirely capable of. If he was quick enough, maybe the second one would fall victim before it realized what was going on. Maybe. One thing was certain: if those things got too close, he’d be lucky to walk out alive with little more than a broken rib cage.

All he needed was one perfect shot and then, the rest he could handle no problem.

Just one perfect shot.

Anger was slowly building inside Vail, but he refused to let it get the best of him. He pushed Voulge's degrading comments aside without so much as a blink.

He caught the mass of metal with ease, and let it shift from hand to hand as he spoke.

"Watching and waiting you say?" Vail smirked. "It's funny you should pick such an insect to compare yourself to."

The Toa of Fire paced back and forth and tossed the crumpled mass rhythmically.

"Kofo-Jaga are diminutive creatures, yet they never strike alone. They always hunt in armies, and with enough numbers they can take down almost any creature. A lone Kofo however, is weak, and can be crushed underfoot with ease."

His fist enclosed around the crumpled metal tightly. He turned to face Voulge.

"You also must remember, Kofo-Jaga suck up to the power of flame. They can't live without it."

The protosteel in his hand began to heat up like a biscuit fresh from the oven.

IC: Crasaro

It had been quite the long night, searching in the forest. Crasaro had been searching for Liano the entire night, since the Toa of Earth randomly dissapeared into the woods. It was strange, after all. Crasaro didn't remember a time when Liano had actually gone out into the woods to do...something. It didn't matter, and Crasaro continued to bumble along in the woods. It was far, far too dark to see anything. That didn't stop him from trying, though. His eyes eventually adjusted to the miniscule amount of moonlight, and he could vaugely see trees around him. And suddenly, a loud, horrid sound echoed through the trees Crasaro could hardly see.

Gyeeeeeeeeuuuugh!

The screech hurt Crasaro's ears, but he decided to move towards the horrid sound. After all, someone might have been ambushed by...

Wait, was that a Tarakarva screech?

Crasaro paused for a moment, and realized that he was on the edge of a clearing. And inside the clearing were two Tarakarva, standing around a badly beaten Fusa. Crasaro's eyes widened, and he took a step back. The rustling of leaves caught the attention of one of the Tarakarva. It turned it's head towards Crasaro. "Uh-oh."

Vail let the heat that emanated from his hand slowly dissipate and die.

"Precisely." He confirmed simply. The night air sent a chill up his spine, as if suddenly recognizing him as an outsider. An outsider that didn't belong.

"We need eachother to succeed," the Toa of Fire said, almost desperately, as if to boost his own courage more that that of Voulge. He pulled his cloak about himself tighter than ever, allowing the comforting fabric to embrace his body. "And even though the world is unforgiving, we must not stray from the virtue unity. It happens to be my favorite of the three, and I would argue it is the most important, especially to the Sarsi."

Vail turned away from Voulge. The crisp air pulled at the corners of his cloak and caused them to flutter gently in the breeze.

"I need you, to prevail. You need me, to prevail. It's this balance that keeps the fire within alive and burning."

The Ta-Toa's fingertips ignited in flickering flames.

"So even if I scare you, even if you think of me below you, I beg you not to cast me aside. For there is a role I have yet to play out, for good or for bad. Please don't walk away from this with a broken end. The Sarsi's unity is fragile, one broken line and the whole team comes crashing to the ground."

I could have let you and crasaro meet your end when we went to Ta-wahi...Yet i didn't so perhaps there is something.. But just be aware i come first.. My own safety comes ahead of anyone elses."
