Th benefit of having a giant pair of treads instead of legs was that you had a lot more coverage and traction on the ground. So unsurprisingly, Izaragi's attempt to pull him over the edge was met with stubborn defiance. 

 

Groaning from the weight of the skakdi dangling from his arm, he shoved the sword away and slashed at her arm with the blade of his daggerang, trying to dislodge her. "Just bloody die, will ya?"

IC Izarargi - KO'd by Terry (by self?)

The ability to turn anything into a weapon, or to turn any weapon into an exceptional weapon did have it's downsides. She realized this too late as Terry's enhanced weapon qualities let her slice clean through her arm with nary a twinge of resistance from cloak or armor. Terry might find his blade continuing on, cutting anything else in it's path for little to no resistance for several seconds as her powers wore off of him.

 

Also she fell into the lava and died.

He almost fell over the edge himself, as his blade seemed to slice through Izaragi's arm like a magma sword through butter. He gripped the railing to steady himself, marveling at the sight of her tumbling down into the lava below. 

 

"See ya later," he taunted, turning away and rolling along the catwalk.

I paced back and forth along the platform, waiting for Kat and Maccha to catch up. We hadn't seen any other fighters in a while, and that had me worried. Where is everyone?

I couldn't see anyone, so I put my rifle away. I walked off, looking for prey.

IC: Alisa Dare - Arena. 

 

Having fled from where the dragon had gone down to avoid being caught in the sniper's crosshairs, Alisa crept stealthily through the smoke and flickering shadows, spotting a larger being (Kaipatu) lumbering along a catwalk just below her.

 

He hadn't spotted her, so she charged up a bolt of Audio Absence and fired it at his back. Over the incessant clank of machinery and bubbling of the molten protodermis, unless this guy was a De-Toa, there was no way he'd be able to pick out the faint crackling of the energy bolt. And once it struck him, he wouldn't be hearing anything....

IC: Kaipatu

No audio. That was weird. I looked around, but there was no apparent cause. I shrugged and kept on walking.

[Nato G]

IC: Alisa Dare - Arena. 

 

Dropping down off the platform she'd been standing on, Alisa landed in a roll on the catwalk her target stood on. Even deaf, he'd probably have felt the vibrations from her landing, so she wasted no time in flinging her shield at him. 

 

The bladed disk spun smoothly through the air, spiraling towards Kaipatu's back....

I felt a thud, and my hunter instincts kicked in. I span round, in what seemed to be an instant, and drew my sword, slashing away the shield, knocking it over to the edge of the walkway.

[Wyrd Bid Ful Araed]

IC: What? Why was nothing happening? Normally when her the powers of her ink infected someone they struggled for a bit, perhaps even monologued or cursed, before being overtaken and falling under her control. Was this one powered by some Book of Life of his own that overruled her own?

This needed more reflection and studying...

 

"This one seems in distress," she indicated at Kid Naona, "It leaves her vulnerable, and there is such a thing as fair play." Again, all technically true. If the Toa was immune to her control then she was even more wary of what other powers he might possess. "Do you think we should get her somewhere more secluded?"

 

Tuyetkhamun's head was already spinning with possibilities on how to take out this bizarre threat. If Zangah was resistant to her power, he could not be allowed to live...

 

 

IC: For now Skrall was managing to keep ahead of CinS line of fire. It wouldn't last forever though, sooner or later the robot would match its aiming up with with his speed and blast him right off the catwalk. Or just destroy the catwalk entirely if the creaking Skrall could feel was any indication. His eyes took in his surroundings; the other catwalks, the magma pool below, the hanging vats...

Deciding on a course of action Skrall hurled his shield. It flew upwards, pinged off a support beam on the machine's left, and ricocheted towards the robot's face. Time to see if it was as predictable as Skrall thought it was...

 

 

IC: Olari assumed that the bullets coming at her now were no different to the one she'd already bounced off the thick metal of her cover. Since Dynomi wasn't obliging enough to use fancy sparkly effects to denote how powerful her attacks were, Olari had no way of knowing these ones were packed with way more juice. 

As the hollow point rounds punched through the metal of the vat they naturally expanded. This didn't mean they stopped, propelled as they were by Dynomi's power. It just meant they were bigger and packed a peppier punch as they hit Olari. The container hadn't stopped them so her own inbuilt armour was as much good as damp cardboard. The bullets went clean through her and right out the other side of the vat...

 

OOC: Olari eliminated by Dynomi

 

 

IC: Jorth might have had a problem with Arkrax's detachment and willingness to just drop tubs of boiling metal on people...if he didn't know full well anyone 'killed' would just wake up in the medbay without so much as a scratch or headache. Outside the arena it would be a different story, obviously, but in the context of the tournament he quite enjoyed being able to nobble the competition without having to worry about them finding him and fighting back.

 

"Hey, how much control of the vats do you have?" he asked, an idea forming in his head...

IC: Alisa Dare - Arena. 

 

The shield spun to the side, ricocheting off a pillar and flying back towards Alisa's hand as she ran to meet Kaipatu. He was bigger than her, so she could use the size of the catwalk to her advantage. 

 

Materialising her painblade, she stepped in close and slashed at her foe's ribs.

It only took a small movement of the sword to block the blade, and I pushed with my sword, in an knock her down.

IC: Alisa Dare - Arena.

 

Of course, since Alisa's painblade couldn't be blocked by physical means, it actually passed right through Kaipatu's sword, continuing on towards his chest. Too close to stop me now...

[25K Now!]

IC: Naona (Kid) ~ Arena/Catwalk

 

They had stopped fighting.

 

What ... were they saying?

 

She couldn't hear them well.

 

Her heartlight continued to pulse.

 

It drummed at her chest. At her ears. At her mind.

 

She ... was supposed to fight ... why ... weren't they?

 

And kill.

 

"Hey ..." she whispered, "why are you not ..."

 

She was tired.

 

Scared and tired.

 

"... fighting?"

I was shocked to find the blade passed through my own. Suddenly, time seemed to stop. I had just enough time to activate my Kualsi, and look over Alisa's shoulder to teleport behind her.

IC: Alisa Dare - Arena.

 

Teleportation? Clearly that mask of his was not what it appeared to be. She spun, slashing out behind her with the painblade. She'd fought enough skakdi to know the preferred tactic of teleporters.

IC: Kaipatu

"GGGAAAARRRGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH!" The pain blade struck true, causing Kaipatu to yell out in pain. He held his chest for a moment, his eyes closed in agony.

IC: Alisa Dare - Arena.

 

She didn't give him time to recover, swinging the bladed edge of the shield towards his chest. 

 

Time to cause some real pain....

Kaipatu's eyes opened just in time to see the shield headed for his chest. His claws caught the shield, scratching the metal.

IC: Alisa Dare - Arena. 

 

Still pushing forwards with the shield, she formed the painblade in her free hand and stabbed at his chest....

 

....only to shift her grip at the last moment and plunge the weapon towards his foot instead.

"ARRRGGGHHHH!" This time, in his pain and rage, Kaipatu snatched at Alisa, with the other hand on the shield, hoping to grab her neck.

IC: Alisa Dare - Arena. 

 

Being taller than she was, and with Alisa still half bent over from stabbing at his foot, Kaipatu had to reach down to grab her, giving her time to twist out of the way.

 

His hand caught her by the shoulder instead of the neck, and she let her painblade vanish, reaching up to grab at the hand holding her, trying to force him to let her go.

Oh, I wasn't letting go now. I crushed with my hand, my strength most likely making it very painful for Alisa.

IC: Alisa Dare - Arena.

 

She felt her armour begin to crumple, the skin underneath bruising. She adjusted her grip on his hand, her palm resting over the arteries in his wrist, and called on her powers once more, summoning up a burst of Physical Absence and firing it at point blank range.

 

She braced herself for the inevitable gush of blood that was sure to follow....

"AAAAAARRRRGGGHHH!" That hurt. A lot. There was a huge hole in my arm, and blood was spraying everywhere. But somehow, my claws held firm on the shoulder, continuing to crush. He was not going to be the only one bleeding.

IC: Alisa Dare - Arena. 

 

She clenched her teeth together, doing her best not to cry out. Feeling warm blood splash across her hand, she forced her fingers into the wound, trying to dig through the bleeding muscle and get to the bone. 

 

If he wouldn't let her go, she'd make him let go....

Kaipatu nearly threw up when he felt Alisa feeling his bones. Determined to make this fight end, Kaipatu shoved the razor sharp shield towards Alisa's chest, hoping it will finish the fight.

IC: Alisa Dare - Arena.

 

Of course, since Alisa was still holding the shield with one hand, she pushed right back, directing the bladed edge away from her body. With her other hand, she stopped digging and formed a miniature painblade inside Kaipatu's wrist. 

 

If that didn't make him let go, nothing would....

That was enough for Kaipatu to finally throw up. He retched all over Alisa, as his hand felt like it was going to explode. He let go, of everything, and just retched on the floor.

IC: Alisa Dare - Arena. 

 

She stumbled away, moaning as she clutched at her injured shoulder. Blood had stained her arm red, and bile covered her upper body from where her opponent had spewed on her. She was appalled by what she'd been forced to do, but she fought past her disgust. She'd started it, and now she had to end it.

 

But he'd let go of her and the shield, and she struck out with her uninjured arm, swinging the jagged edge of her shield towards his ankles, aiming to slice at his legs and knock him off his feet.

Just as he recovered he was knocked down again. He fumbled on his back for his rifle and got it out, crawling backwards as he aimed for Alisa's head. He was going to take her with him.

IC: Alisa Dare - Arena. 

 

Seeing him reaching for his rifle, Alisa crouched down low behind her shield. Since one of his wrists was torn open to the bone, with blood fountaining from the wound, she didn't like his chances of being able to aim with any degree of skill, but she wasn't going to take the chance. 

 

Blood loss would surely be taking its toll by now anyway; he didn't have long left.

Kaipatu fired, not amazingly accurately, but in the general direction of the shield. Over and over, about 6 times. The high caliber bullets SHOULD be able to get through the shield, as they were used for shooting down Rahkshi.

IC: Alisa Dare - Arena. 

 

Alisa began moving backwards, and since Kaipatu's rifle wasn't actually using high-calibre armour-piercing rounds, her shield held. The first few rounds pounded heavily agaisnt the plated protosteel, denting it in places, but not penetrating. 

 

But since his weapon was bolt-action, she had plenty of time between his shots to put as much distance between herself and him as possible. The further back she moved, the worse his aim became, the rounds glancing off the edges of the shield. Casting a furtive glance over her shoulder, she could see a staircase leading down to the next level. If she could just get to it....

 

This has to end soon....

I spot a pair of fighters on a walkway beneath me, bleeding, both heavily injured. Intriguing. Activating my invisibility, I drop, flaring my wings to stop my fall as I come closer to the grey and gold one. As I slow down, I open my maw and launch a stream of blinding plasma at her back. Occupied with her fight, the Toa shouldn't be able to block it- and either way, my plasma is hot enough to melt just about anything that might be used to block it in a situation like this.

"Oh no you don't." My Kualsi activated again, teleporting me in front of the shield. I then kicked out, hoping to knock her over.

[Nato G]

IC: Alisa Dare - Arena. 

 

The kick landed true, the force of the blow propelling knocking her backwards down the flight of stairs she'd been sneaking towards.... and out of the path of the plasma blast that seared across her shield as she fell head over heels. 

 

She bounced painfully down the stairs, managing to halt her fall halfway down. She could see a disturbance in the smoke where some large creature - with wings, apparently - was moving around. Presumably that was what had launched the plasma at her.

 

Not wanting to make an easy target of herself, she vaulted over the railing and dropped the remaining bio down onto the next platform down, trying to distance herself from her two opponents....

I ran past the ugly winged creature and teleported down to Alisa. "You're not getting away now, sorry." I said, raising my gun and firing a final time at Alisa, my head beginning to feel light.

[Nato G]

IC: Alisa Dare - Arena. 

 

But this time, she was ready for him. Her shield was up in an instant, sweeping towards the end of the rifle. The bullet struck the curved sheet of metallic protodermis only a few moments after leaving the barrel, and ricocheted off to the side. 

 

Raising her injured arm weakly, she stepped past the rifle and inside his guard, too close to try to shoot her again. Summoning up her painblade, she stabbed it upwards towards his throat.

IC: Kaipatu

"That's enough of that." Kaipatu moved his neck away from the blade, and dropped the gun, stretching his uninjured arm towards her neck, to strangle her.

IC: Alisa Dare - Arena. 

 

She brought up her shield to intercept his arm, and swept her other hand downwards, aiming to slice the painblade right across his chest and stomach. Her injured shoulder screamed at her, but she fought past the pain.

 

She just had to hold this guy off a little longer, and then he'd bleed out of his own accord....
