It's weird to compare Bionicle with other "things from your early-2000s childhood" memes that became popular this year- Lazy Town, Bee Movie, Spongebob, etc.

 

I think it's just the combination of familiarity and bizarre out-of-context-ness of it all. Like, "Surprise! Remember meeee? Weren't expecting that, huh?" with the added bonus of being completely incomprehensible and confusing to people who weren't there at the time (like the unfortunate Mr Trump up there).
