IC: Ferron (Ferron's Forge)

"You're a Private Eye, Khervos," Ferron replied, "you go after those who do evil things still within the boundaries of society. This is different"

Ferron's voice sounded surprisingly blasé, and his demeanor was strikingly matter-of-factly about the whole ordeal.

"You track people through psychology and deduction. This... this is like chasing an animal, I need a hunter, someone with instinct, Rhea seems just the type"

"And no," he continued, turning to Tuli, "you're not going anywhere near this, and that's not because I don't think you can handle it, but because I have nothing else left. This is dangerous, someone is going to die. I need to know that I have something worth coming back to. I need to know that there's something I still have to live for"

Ferron leaned forward and put a hand on the Ta-Matoran's shoulder.

"You're a good friend, Tuli, will you be that for me?"

OOC:

This is assuming that the bank form and everything is all legit, and that Tivanu actually has that much money in his account. No rubber checks, please. :P

IC: [ Rhea ] - Onu-Koro / unidentified local bank

Rhea grappled the paper with a nimble forefinger and positioned it in front of her, reading it carefully. The chances of her being cheated at this point in the game were astronomically small, yes, but only fools didn't read the fine print.

Everything checked out. Taking up a nearby quill pen, Rhea scratched down her bank's name, her vault number, and her signature.

IC: [ Nero ] - Onu-Koro / Wise Man's Archive

"When she gives her word, she does not forget it." said Nero noncommittally, intuitively sensing, rather than logically recognizing, Surina's none-too-subtle machinations. "Sometimes she breaks it, and there are few oaths she holds sacred... but she does not forget."

He considered a moment, then added, "There are two things she wants out of this. Your freedom, and also the reward offered for your capture. She will try to get them both. I know it. This is not over yet, not until my Lady wishes it so."

OOC: Let's just say that tivanu has a decent stash that he was hoping to one day retire with... But this seems a bit more important.

IC: Tivanu

Tivanu took the form back and placed his signature on the line next to Rhea's and with that the teller took the form back and entered a backroom

"Well now that that is completed what now Rhea? Will we be handing Surina over or is there something more?"

IC: Torvoth

As the Skakdi's claws sheared into his chainblade and both weapons were shredded into mutual annihilation, Torvoth simply stood there for a moment, letting his most prized possession (besides his briefcase, which was not on his person) slide out of his shocked hands. This moment was disrupted by his eyes bulging with disbelief inside his Kadin-helmet and him being tackled by the same assailant to the ground. He tried to reach for his handgun, but his hands were too busy at the moment preventing the Skakdi from jamming the stubs of his protosteel claws through the Vortixx's throat. He spared a brief glance at Ardoku. "Don't listen to him! These scumbags are trying to rob- oof! - us! Fight to the last!" he howled angrily and punctuated his words by headbutting the grinning Skakdi atop him with his battered and spiked helmet.

IC: Suriol (Suriol's Office)

"If it'll get you out of my office, then sure. But be warned, one mistake in the first month, and you're right off"

OOC: That's not seriously meant, don't worry :)

IC: Vhohan

"Thank you." The Skakdi left the building, walking on his prosthetic and his one leg. He had to get to one of the small technology stores in this Koro before they closed for the day, as it was getting late. He had things to do now, of the utmost importance, things that had to be completed.

He stopped at the hotel he was staying at to pick up his Rahkshi Staff and his gun. He got a cloak out of the closest, and draped himself in it. As a final act, he sat down on the bed and began to unstrap the blade of the stump where his hand once was. His fingers traced the stitches, and then he got back up.

Everything went into his bag, and he walked to the store. They put the box on the counter, and he pulled out the few widgets needed to pay for what was inside. They accepted, and he picked it up the box. Cradling between his arm and his body, he thanked the maker of the device in the box.

He then began walking, going to his old home in the city of Po-Koro. He would convert a part of it into his office for the Po-Koroan Mata Nuian Weekly branch. But there was something odd - he was different from the last time he had came to this Koro. Less bloodthirsty, more refined.

Like when he still had a family.

And the hardened, crazed, murderous Skakdi wiped a tear from his eye.

IC: [ Rhea ] - Onu-Koro / unidentified local bank

"No, nothing particularly important. As per your offer, however, I will be sending one of my associates, Mar, along with you when you depart. I have a few things for him to do in Ga-Koro, and he can oversee the prisoner transfer on the way."

She headed back for the door via the lobby, ignoring a hopeful, most unprofessional smile from one of the guards.

"I'll have to let him know what's going on, and what it is I need done; could you put off your journey an hour or so? I imagine he has possessions to retrieve from wherever it is he's staying at the moment."

IC Tuli and Khervos

(Onu-Koro, Ferron's Forge):

Tuli was angry and close to another one of her infamous temperamental explosions. How could Ferron really assume that he could tell all this to her and then deny her interference?

"You know I'll always be your friend", Tuli said, managing to cover up her disappointment to some extent. "But I think you're forgetting that I've faithfully served in the Ta-Koro guard during the Dark Wars and all the battles against Makuta's Rahi and dark Toa..."

"He has your best interests in mind, Tuli", Khervos interrupted. He completely understood Ferron's stance and was of the same opinion himself. He knew Tuli was capable in battle, but she had a short fuse and in any battle there was a risk of death anyway.

"What're you saying, that I'm no good in this kind of stuff?" Tuli snapped.

"No, that's not what I..."

"That's just so typical", Tuli shot. "Just because I'm a woman..."

"No", Khervos interjected again. "To Ferron you are a friend... and to me you are something more. There are people who need you alive rather than fighting. Can you understand that?"

Tuli went quiet as she forced down her fiery side and tried to think about this. She turned to Ferron. "But... what if you don't come back?"

IC Surina

IC: Ferron (Ferron's Forge)

Ferron's face darkened a little "If I die, all my possessions will go to you, I've already fixed that, but I'm pretty sure that's not what you meant"

"Remember how I let you go after Khervos? Just take off and pursue something that you felt you needed to do, because otherwise it would eat at you for the rest of your life? For me this is that moment. If I don't come back, that's just the way it has to be"

IC Tuli and Khervos

(Onu-Koro, Ferron's Forge):

"That was different", Tuli said. "I was with Khervos. I was with someone I trusted. If you go alone, you won't have that advantage. And I'm pretty sure Rhea can't be considered a true ally. There's something... wrong about her."

Khervos nodded. "I have to agree with Tuli on that one. If you take on a murderer, you need someone trustworthy to be with you, to watch your back."

"I've managed to get by on my own before, besides Rhea's job isn't extremely important anyway, she only needs to find him, I'll take care of the rest myself, she has nothing to gain by just randomly murdering me. She's a bounty hunter, whatever she does, it's to get something out of it, and what she'll get something out of is helping me find Kuhrin" Ferron replied.

"Besides, I'm not averse to my chances if she decides to stop playing fair" he added, opening and closing his prosthetic hand.

OOC: last response before Shadowhawk shows up

IC: Ferron (Ferron's Forge)

"Yes" Ferron replied with a solemn nod, waving for her to follow him.

The hinges creaked as Ferron pushed open the door to the forge's inner sanctum, slowly, painstakingly pushing the massive door aside. He stood there for a few seconds, panting. It felt so unnatural having to exert himself in this manner, normally he'd just pushed it aside as if he was swatting a fly thanks to the enormous strength afforded to him by his Pakari. Ferron could only count himself lucky he was a rather well-built Toa of Iron, he still had some muscle left.

Still... it felt like something was missing.

"Alright, let's get to work" he said as he used his elemental powers to close the door after Tuli.

IC: Xaron

"Whatever, I'll pay your ridiculous price..." I mumbled under my breath something about conmen and doctors. I placed the iStone on the ground, next to my arm, and started to type into it. Bot came over to look.

Hello. Do you understand what I am typing?

There was no answer from Bot. It just stared at the screen. And then, out of nowhere, some more works appeared on the screen. Not words, though. Just...binary code.

01010100 01101000 01101001 01110011 00100000 01101101 01100101 01110100 01101000 01101111 01100100 00100000 01101111 01100110 00100000 01100011 01101111 01101101 01101101 01110101 01101110 01101001 01100011 01100001 01110100 01101001 01101111 01101110 00100000 01101001 01110011 00100000 01101111 01100100 01100100 00101110

"Uh..."

I typed on the screen again.

Do you understand what I am typing?

Once again, more binary.

01010100 01101000 01101001 01110011 00100000 01101001 01110011 00100000 01101110 01101111 01110100 00100000 01101110 01101111 01110010 01101101 01100001 01101100 00101110 00100000 01001001 00100000 01100100 01101111 00100000 01101110 01101111 01110100 00100000 01100011 01101111 01101101 01101101 01110101 01101110 01101001 01100011 01100001 01110100 01100101 00100000 01110100 01101000 01101001 01110011 00100000 01110111 01100001 01111001 00101110

I sighed. And typed once more.

Can you disassemble this tablet, and make a new limb for me using this and my old arm?

The doctor looked at me. "You know, you can't tamper with iStones..."

I looked back at him. "Hush. Mybe this robot can, or maybe it can use the wires or something to make my old arm useful."

More binary appeared on the screen.

01001001 00100000 01100011 01100001 01101110 00100000 01100100 01100101 01100011 01101111 01101110 01110011 01110100 01110010 01110101 01100011 01110100 00100000 01110100 01101000 01101001 01110011 00100000 01101101 01101111 01100100 01110101 01110011 00100000 01101111 01100110 00100000 01100011 01101111 01101101 01101101 01110101 01101110 01101001 01100011 01100001 01110100 01101001 01101111 01101110 00101100 00100000 01100010 01110101 01110100 00100000 01110111 01101000 01100001 01110100 00100000 01101001 01110011 00100000 01100001 01101110 00100000 00100111 01101111 01101100 01100100 00100000 01100001 01110010 01101101 00100111 00111111

"Do you understand binary code?" I asked he doctor.

"No."

"Oh. Well then. I guess I need to figure this out myself." I grabbed a piece of paper, and began writing down the code. It would take quite some time to actually translate everything though.

An hour later, I had it done. The doctor had told me to leave the room shortly after I started, because m injuries weren't any danger to my health. Apparently he didn't notice the amount of blood I lost, but I would recover. I guess. He didn't look.

Worst doctor in Onu-Koro, I would say.

I walked down to the deeper parts of the mine, translation in mind, and eventually came to where everyone else was at. I didn't see them in the room, though. I just saw the door opening into darkness.

"A dark hole...well, might as well go in, I say."

Me, my little robot, a slightly broken iStone, and a shell of an arm all marched into the darkness.

OOC: Ok, I would say he arrived about...2-3 minutes after everyone else in the Tablet group descended into the room (even if you guys haven't yet).

IC: Ardoku, Aidrak and Saedrak

Saedrak decides to throw away his broken claw, he didn't want to kill this guy just yet. He wanted to have a little... fun. Saedrak began beating up the vortixx.

Meanwhile, Ardoku stands against the green skakdi, still holding his position. "I'm afraid that's out of the question... although..." Ardoku reaches into his rucksack, taking out the elemental resonator. "This thing. If I give it to you, you let me and... well, you let me go without trouble?"

Aidrak lifts an eyebrow. "My oh my, is that an elemental resonator? Many would pay a fortune for this tool, but I suppose it could also be used to buy ones life." Aidrak looked from the tool to Ardoku. "Very well, I suppose there isn't much need for this conflict, you seem like a reasonable man. How ever, your friend seems to..." Aidrak looks at Torvoth and Saedrak fighting. "... disagree."

IC: [ Rhea ] - Onu-Koro

Rhea stepped out into the dark subterranean streets, her exit lit by the warm amber glow of a nearby pole-mounted lightstone.

Well, that takes care of that. Check and mate, Tivanu's favor. Curse him, the wily old bag of bones.

She'd genuinely wanted to keep her word to Surina; she respected the Ga-Matoran's determination, and rather disliked knowing she was about to die. On the other hand, although she didn't doubt her ability to somehow work around Tivanu's strategic blocking maneuver... she wasn't going to go to desperate measures, measures that could very well sink her in trouble with the law. And really, there was no reason to. Without Surina's freedom, she, Rhea, be no worse off than she had been to start with, and as for the matter of keeping her word... well, she hadn't even sworn to keep it, let alone sworn the single oath she would uphold to her dying breath.

But the thing that rankled, mostly, was that Tivanu had won. He'd gotten everything he wanted; she hadn't. In terms of pride, that was no way to make a profitable business deal.

Outwardly, however, she masterfully concealed her irritation with a roguish smile and a quizzical lift of the eyebrow. "As you like it. Are you sure it's not my company that makes you so keen on being present, however?"

IC: [ Nero ] - Onu-Koro / Wise Man's Archive

"You don't have much right to expect justice from another." pointed out Nero after a moment's somber thought. "Not a killer like you. I'm no lawyer, but I say that someone like you, with no rights anymore at all, has got no reason to expect getting those rights back... from anyone."

He fell silent briefly, then added bluntly, "If you hadn't been so stupid about it the first time, you mighta pulled it off. And if you hadn't been so stupid about it the second time, you wouldn't have given Rhea a gold opportunity."

IC Hile

(Onu-Koro, Secret Lab):

"Mata Nui..."

Hile was speechless. This was like nothing he had ever seen or even dreamed of before.

Just moments ago he, Feran, Sulkua and Shadd had opened the next door of the strange undeground cavern to find a staircase. They had gone down it quite some time, each one imagining what they would find at the bottom.

Now they finally knew.

The chamber they entered was a large one, with several doorways to smaller rooms or hallways. There was equipment of all kinds scattered everywhere, mostly technological items and half-finished machines. Though the technology looked quite primitive compared to what existed on the surface nowadays, the laboratory still managed to create a futuristic feeling. One reason for this was the type of artificial lighting used, completely independent from lightstones or any other known light source.

Half-finished robotic creatures were lying on the ground everywhere, obviously not working. Tables all around the main chamber were stacked with notes written in the same foreign language Kirgan had discovered on the stone tablet earlier. The smell of the place was like that of a hospital with all its chemicals and detergents.

All in all, the place was like straight from a dream.

"This is amazing."

IC Surina

(Onu-Koro, Wise Man's Archive):

"I don't need any rights. I just need my life", Surina shot back. "Self-preservation is the most basic instinct of all. I'm not a strategist, ok? Sometimes I make bad decisions. You know what they say though, third time's the charm."

Tivanu let out a hardy laugh as he heard this and kept on walking beside Rhea

"Come now any Mercenary worth their weight knows they should not mix Business and Pleasure. Though to be blunt your not my type."

However he walked back towards the wise man's archive though he sopped for a second to consider Rhea

"Also Rhea don't think i am blind. We are both mercenaries and i am sure you know that means we would sell each other out for the highest price. And I have never met a honest mercenary. But even if you claim you are a bounty hunter it is just a fancy term for the same thing."

"I might not be the youngest Toa around, but I'm certainly not a Turaga, nor am I ready to be one yet - and if you're implying that I need to take a rest, I can show that I'm just as - if not more - capable than either you or Talinka, when it comes to combative pursuits."

IC: Torvoth

Torvoth cocked his head towards Ardoku despite the rain of blows from the earth Skakdi, which had started as soon as they had untangled from the earlier tackle. Between trading punches, he shouted, "Whoa, whoa whoa! What's the idea, Toa? You've gotta negotiate me out of this mess too! I am a person too! And you had better not trade away MY elemental resonator!" He narrowly avoided a particularly vicious lunge and elbowed the Skakdi in the head just before his aggressor recovered. He had hoped to have hit him in the eye, but no such luck. The Skakdi came at him again, knocking him back with a glancing, but powerful blow to the shoulder. As he stumbled back, he finally had the space that he needed. His arm went to his side and came up holding The Judge. "Okay, buckaroo. Back off, or I'll tear your face off with my little friend here. No, it won't kill you, but it will probably shred your beautiful mug at this range."

Tharros extended a smile to his comrade, "I have no doubt of that, noble warrior. And I implied no such thing, else I would not have chosen you for this journey.

"But where I come from, everyone has their time. As a matoran you have a chance at a simple life. Doing mundane, but honorable work. Building, crafting, and trading. As a Toa you gave up such things, so that other Matoran can have their chance at such a life.

"You have worked so hard, and sacrificed much for the protection of this island. I would hate to ask more of you."

Tharros looked at the Toa with sincerest respect, a look he would only share with a warrior.

Now I sacrifice my later years to do good for the island and its inhabitants." Grochi snorted in slight amusement, slight annoyance.

Thump. Thump. Thump.

My feet slapped against the stairwell.

Thump. Thump. Thump.

I kept going down, down into the depths of this staircase. The walls echoes my footsteps and my breathing.

Thump. thump. Thump.

It was eerie, to say the least. But I carried on, on into the oppressive dark, dank stairwell.

Thump. Thump.

I stopped. I saw a light. I could see light at last, at the bottom of the staircase.

Thumpthumpthumpthump

I ran down the last few sets of stairs, only to run into everyone else. I backpedaled, trying to slow down, but to no avail. I ran right into...someone. I wasn't sure who, but it certainly was a person. I looked around at the mysterious room, at all the odd robots. I shivered. They reminded me of that robot up there. Not like I'm permanently scarred by that, but losing an arm isn't fun to remember.

Neither is turning into a monster.

IC Kirgan and Hile

(Onu-Koro, Secret lab):

The person Xaron had bumped into was Kirgan, who had arrived just moments before to join Hile and the others. Kirgan helped Xaron up, noting how he was still missing an arm. He decided not to bring that subject up again.

"It's the place we've been looking for", Kirgan said. "The place where that stone tablet was written. The long-buried headquarters of the Onu-Koro Research Community."

"How do you know that?" Hile enquired, already fiddling with the various machines.

"That's what it said in the tablet", Kirgan said. "Onu-Koro Research Community. It must be an old laboratory of some kind."

IC: Ardoku, Aidrak and Saedrak

Saedrak smiled, and without giving Torvoth time to react, took out his rifle. "Yeah? Well this gun WILL kill you, and believe me, I am a very good shot." And with that, an already tense situation intensified in tensity.

Meanwhile, Ardoku sighed. "Yeah, if you could also ask your 'partner' to lay off of him? That would be appreciated, since I don't think I want his brand of revenge hanging over my head if he ever did get out of this alive."

Aidrak chuckled a bit. "Hmm, I'll have to agree with you on that, I wouldn't want to have to look behind every crevice where ever I went for the rest of my life either. Very well." He said as he received the elemental resonator. He then turned to Saedrak and the vortixx, shouting "OI! You two! Break it up! It's time to talk things through!" Aidrak walked past Torvoth without a second thought, walking up to Saedrak. "And you know what I said about talking things through, don't you?"

Saedrak sighed. "Yeah yeah. Talk first, shoot later if they offend you. I got it." Saedrak lowered his rifle.

Likewise Ardoku walked over to Torvoth. "It's over. I think I pretty much saved both of us from a whole lot of trouble."

IC: Xaron

I sniffed the air. If it was supposed to be a laboratory, why did it smell like a hospital? Whatever, that really didn't matter. What mattered was that we were in an underground base with robots in it.

Bot scampered all around my feet, looking at the surroundings...somehow. Maybe it felt at home here, where it probably was built?

No, that's preposterous. Robots don't have feelings normally, especially tiny repair drones.

IC: Shadd

Shadd was staring around the room with eyes as big as dinner plates. If Matoran used those, at least. He wanted to get to dating this stuff and tracing its origins right away. Xaron's arrival drew his attention from the machinery around him for a moment.

"Welcome back Xaron, how are you feeling?"

IC: Xaron

"Apart from the bloodloss, losing my arm, and having a doctor charge me twice the amount of an iStone just to use his, I'm good. I don't think I'll be running, punching, or doing anything physically strenuous for a while, though."

IC Kirgan and Hile

(Onu-Koro, Great Mine, Secret lab):

"I was sure they would be able to repair your arm", Kirgan said to Xaron. "I mean, I've heard it's possible. By the way, where is Azth..."

"Guys, come here!" the sound of Hile was heard from one of the side chambers.

It was immediately clear what had prompted Hile to shout like that. The room he was in was a large one, governed by twelve large transparent cylinders filled with some type of liquid... and the unmoving bodies of Matoran, one in each cylinder.

"What in Mata Nui's name is this?"

I followed everyone into the odd room, full of...

...

"What."

.A bunch of Matoran

"The."

Sitting in giant test tubes full of liquid.

"Karz."

My mouth hung open. In a lab full of robots, seeing Matoran stuck in tubes was the last thing I would have expected. I sat there, awestruck, hoping that these Matoran wouldn't wake up and try to kill us like that robot up there.

"No. It's something to do." Grochi sighed, slightly. "Tharros, I don't believe that penance does anything except for somebody observing the penitent, and I don't believe that redemption needs to be earned. I do good now because I want to do good, and because I see a need for it to be done, and because I want something to do. It's as simple as that."
