I leap out of the Muaka's way as it skids past, reloading my crossbow. As I bring my bow up to bear on the creature, I create a small dagger of ice in my hand, ready to fight the Muaka in close quarters if necessary.

 

IC: Gamma (Circadian Level Four)

 

Turning his knife nervously within his hands, Gamma, in a remarkable burst of courage, slowly began sidling up towards the Muaka's back.

IC Carth:

 

Well, I guess this was it.

 

I'd charged up quite the amount of lightning, and now, with only one arm, it was pretty well focused.

 

"Only one shot at this," I grunted, extending my arm.

 

Energy sparked and flashed.

 

And an enormous white hot bolt of lightning streaked toward the Muaka.

GM IC:

"Of course there is! That radar dish, miniaturization of the rail gun, the composite armor, testing the Kanohi against unidentified masks in our backstock, the boosters for jumps..." The skakdi trailed off with lots of big science-y words, clearly enthusiastic. "Just give me a few days to start working on it."

Oblitus' caution was well rewarded. As scarcely a moment after he'd sidestepped the pool, it lanced out, an infinitesimally sharp blace that severed the necromancer's thrall at neck and shoulder. Concentration broken, Matoro gasped and stepped back as the beast fell to the floor, exclaminations cut off as the liquid metal raced towards him, reforming before him as the titanic Ascension.

 

"Your studies, you will grant me access." It spoke in monotone, the console behind them clearly the subject of it's query.

The Muaka's charge was broken by Carth's quick action, the bolt prompted a violent seizure that carried it out of it's path towards Arkie and into a trio of statues that were bowled over. But, it seemed to still be alive, even with it's left forelimb a smoking wreck it regained it's footing and began to circle the group. Careful to keep statues and the mysterious mirrors between it and the wielders of ranged weapons.

;Okay, Burial. If you can hear me, everyone is distracted with each other. I want to know if the "enemy" Is telling the truth and if they mean no harm.;

He peeked around the tree and made sure no one was paying attention.

"Perfect," I relaxed a little; this would work with my timeframe, "I'm going to be off supervising a mission for a few days. I expect we'll be needing all the firepower we can get once it's over..."

IC: Oblitus - Ascension B3.

 

You have got to be karzing kidding me.... I froze in place, knowing I wouldn't stand a chance in a fight against Ascension. If I tried to leave now, chances were I might be able to get a head start on the monster. 

 

But if he heard the elevator moving, he'd probably just do that liquid metal nonsense again, and then I'd be as good as dead. So I decided to stay where I was, and listen in on the duo.

 

Perhaps I could learn more about what was going on here...

[Some Random Phrase]

IC Elerc:

Caught off guard, the arm contacted the cannon with a clang, driving it off course. In response, Elerc used magnetism to knock it out of the way, before turning the cannon again and raising his hands in surrender.

GM IC:

Avak nodded in... affirmation?

 

"Good luck."

;That smell is far more intense here, the one from earlier. I do not believe that the radio transmissions have been truthful, or perhaps even real. You must attempt to calm everyone down, something is wrong here;

Matoro stood, his face a grim mask.

 

"So, you finally succeeded, did you?"

 

The solidus titan nodded in response, "I have, Matoro."

 

Various looks crossed the Turaga's face, it was clear that he knew resistance was futile, but... Would he be spared? It was impossible for him to read the dull purple eyes of the titan, was it even possible to truly reason with it? "Well then, you want to know the locations of the others, don't you?"

 

Another nod, silent.

 

"You still fear Aion and Janus, don't you?"

 

An agitated ripple passed through the polymorph, clearly it had emotions such as pride that could be prodded. "That is irrelevant."

 

"Ha! So I guessed correctly, you're not nearly strong enough to best either of them are you? Well, what is your plan, are you going to-"

 

Matoro's angry words were cut off by a crushing fist of metal, one that flashed out in an instant to grab his neck and slammed him into the console. "Grant me access at once and I will spare you."

 

Words choked out by the crushing grasp, Matoro began to silently key in commands on the console while the titan looked on impassively.

 

That is, until red lights came on through the length of the room and the shriek of a siren broke the quiet, from Oblitus' hiding place it would be impossible to see, but Matoro had just activated the purging system for this basement level, starting a countdown... In an instant, the Turaga was free. The liquid metal arm flash frozen and shattered by a powerful blow from the creature that Ascension had thought defeated, another blow flung the titan into the distance, his body made solid by the Ko-Elemental's powers. Matoro turned his vision, directly to where Oblitus was hidden before typing a quick command into the console, a small device was retrieved.

 

"Take it and run!" The Turaga had barely completed the throw towards Oblitus when his guardian was cut down and a metallic fist crashed into him. It covered his head and he began to convulse, withering as if his essence were being drained before going limp. Ascension had recoalesced next to the Turaga now, and his eyes had followed the throw towards Oblitus.

 

"You."

 

Dropped the withered body, he observed his hand and body, it was half frozen and jagged. What passed for a frown occupied his face until his eyes and heartlight turned icy blue and the frozen parts of him began to thaw. Under the dim red lighting, it was clear he was using elemental ice...

 

"Clearly, I should not have entrusted your removal to my minions, Oblitus."

 

The De-Matoran would find himself suddenly crushingly heavy, the very air about him turn as dense as iron, preventing movement... Gravity. The titan approached, forming a long spear of ice. It looked to be over for the graverobber, when another of the huge holding tubes collapsed, letting the monster inside out... Ascension whirled around too late as the ape-like creature's huge fist collided with him, flinging him into the far wall. Behind it, in the wreck of the console was the withered Turaga, barely standing to choke out a single word.

 

Run.

I didn't hesitate. Pocketing the device, I bolted for the elevator, sending a blast of sonics towards another of the holding tubes, hoping to collapse it into Ascension's path to buy myself some time...

"I've never been lucky," I growled, "I've always had to work towards my goals; fight for them."

We made it back to the surface, and I radioed the Commander.

 

"Silat, it's Kat, we've finished up with the packing, heading back to base."

GM IC: Silat.

 

"Very good; I've got a new assignment waiting for when you get back."

I realized that the smell was slightly stronger. Something was definitely off.

I radioed Kain and the group.

"Something tells me they are telling the truth," I told him. "They are irrelevant to the Sarge's disappearance."

Ikira reloaded her shotgun, aiming it at the muaka and waiting for an opportune moment to strike.

"Now, you see, there's a problem with that suggestion of yours - seeing as how you know where we are, I presume you can see us in our entirety, meaning that you can see we have no Vortixx with us. So, if you come out nice and calm like, I'm sure we cab all put this little misunderstanding behind us.", he shouted.

IC: Zeleran - Circadian

Quickly assessing the situation, the Commander called out to his team: "Whichever mirror is shattered becomes reality! Find a mirror that shows an exit!" In one fluid movement, he had loaded a Ko-Metru kanoka disc into his steel grey launcher and fired it at the beast's head.

GM IC: Seize Military - Seize (City Gates)

"That really won't be necessary, sir; Seize law states that performing a full vehicular search requires us to strip them all the way down to their bare components, which you and I can probably both agree would cause people to get angry if we were to start doing out here in the middle of the road. Considering that you just gave us permission to do so, which also applies to all mechanics inside of the city's numerous garages at any time they deem fit during the duration of your stay, and you haven't attempted to backpedal away from us yet, this leads me to believe that you indeed have nothing to hide. You may now enter at your leisure."

The Exo-Suit stepped aside, signaling for the others in her squad to do the same as the gate began to rise, allowing Akada free access into the city. Before he could proceed any further, however, his radio crackled to life as the Matoran's voice became audible once again.

"Oh, and sir? Just some friendly advice; try not to litter once you're inside. The Emperor recently instituted a three hundred widget fine for doing so, and those unable to pay face a week in the slammer."

 

GM IC: Seize Military - Seize (Streets)

As the Matoran moved to pick up the unconcious Lohi in order to transport him into the tank, a transmission interupted the momentary silence of the armor's interior just as the hatch was beginning to open.

"Jaeger Squad, what is your current status?"

"This is Comms Officer Liebert of The Rolling Infinity, Command," an Onu-Matoran responded. "Just picking up the perp and bringing in the individuals who put an end to his little rampage back to base in order to get their testimony."

"New orders have just arrived for you. The suspect is now to be transported to Interrogation Cell #4 instead of Primary Holding to await trial. All other details of your assignment are to remain the same."

A perplexed look formed across the Matoran's face as he began to make contact once again.

"Command, the subject is currently unconcious and facing a charge of domestic terrorism. Protocol states that we are to bring him to Primary Holding and prep the firing squad should he be found guilty of the crime."

"These orders were just issued by General Rickert himself, so if you want to be the one to tell him why the prisoner didn't end up in the exact location he's expected to be in when he arrives, then it's your hide on the line, not mine."

Perplexity turned to worry for a moment as the Matoran carefully chose his next words, his comrades in arms already beginning to escort the trio towards their destination as they moved on ahead.

"R-roger that, Command. Over and out."

 

GM IC: Treize Expeditionary Force - Following Logan's Trail

Kain pondered their words for a moment before issuing his next order, using both his comms device and his external radio just to make sure everyone in the area could hear.

"Dix, Amaranth, Radicchio! Hold your fire!"

Seeing that his plan had worked for the most part and doubting that the group was going to try anything as long as the others' weapons were still being trained on them, the Ta-Matoran's Exo-Suit slowly stepped out from behind cover and made himself visible to his previous targets.

"I am the mercenary known as Kain, currently under the employment of the Treize Expeditionary Force so I don't have to waste the rest of my life away rotting in a prison cell, and that Vortixx I mentioned earlier would be our missing squad commander, Sergeant Logan. We recently received a transmission from him saying that he was being attacked before witnessing a Karz-load of smoke and gunfire coming from nearby, and you're the only other group out here besides us right now that we know of at the moment, so somebody better start explaining where we can fnd him before things get ugly. Again."

 

No...!

I will not be denied my sustenance!

Without warning, a large root errupted from its resting place in the earth beneath their feet, wrapping itself around the leg of Radicchio's Exo-Suit and ensnaring the unsuspecting Matoran as he suddenly found himself suspened upside down in the air. Disks flew in random directions as he desperately tried to free himself from its grasp, succeeding only in causing it to lash out as it whipped him into the body of a nearby tank in a savage attempt to cease his struggling. Kain, being the first one to recognise what was happening around him, immediately began to unload the superheated rounds of his Gatling Blasters on it in order to aid his teammate, only to be casually smacked aside into a pile of destroyed vehicles as another wooden tentacle emerged from the dirt towards his flank. A third tunneled its way to freedom near Elerc's position, picking up one of the damaged mechs before flinging it into Dix and successfully pinning him under the mass of mangled machinery as its tip was soon blasted off by Amaranth's rifle fire, the organic material eventually succumbing to his excessive amount of expended ammunition as splinters of wood flew out of the places where they had made impact.

This field will be your graves!

The sound of cracking bark could be heard from the direction of the tree amidst the chaos surrounding them, revealing the gaping maw of the source behind the flowery scent as the area continued to tremble, signifying that more of the creature's limbs were about to make themselves visible in order to deal with the rest of its prey.

GM OOC:

@Seize People - Consider everyone bunnied to where they're supposed to be. Lohi's now laying on the floor of his cell with his cuffs still on.

Now, a good place to go where I can be sure some nutjob won't steal this. Some restaurant, maybe?

Nodding to show that she had heard and understood Zeleran, Ikira thought back to moments before.

 

She had inadvertently shattered the western mirror - fortunate, for the Muaka was all that had been different in that reality.

 

The southern mirror had not reflected any of them at all - she shuddered to imagine what might occur if that mirror were broken.

 

The eastern mirror had displayed both the team and an exit - but without any of their equipment.

 

The northern mirror had also not reflected any of them at all... and the door had held an ornate keyhole, although no keys had been reflected anywhere.

 

"We cannot shatter the mirror yet!" she called back to Zeleran. "If what you say is true, then the eastern mirror is our only chance - but it will also deprive us of our equipment, leaving us defenseless against this beast. If we have a way to take it down quickly and with little damage to the mirrors, I suggest we do so. Otherwise... we must be ready to run."

[Some Random Phrase]

IC Elerc:

As fast as Elerc could process what was happening, he fired a magnetic bolt at the junk pinning Dix, endowing the peices of destroyed tanks, and Dix's suit with a negative charge to push them away from each other. Then diving into the main armored portion of the Venture, he scooted the tank backwards, avoiding any and all trees.

IC: Shard/Treize Force vs. Plant Kaiju-Thing

Well. That explains the smell. I fired crystal blades at the tree, and began running to avoid getting hit by the disks and roots.

 

Then I thought...the sword created plasma as a byproduct when it was done...I wonder if Burial will aid me.

OOC: Doseki & the Desert RAT (Rescue Party)

Vs. Mother Nature's Evil Stepchild.

 

 

IC: Doseki was taken back rom behind the windshield of his RAT as he watch the tree he tried to save turn into a monster that was not worth saving. "I apologize for my mistake guys. You have my permission to fire at will!" It was not like it really needed to be said as several of the units on the field of battle had already turned their attention towards the giant creature. Still he wanted to say it before the others turned on him with 'I told you so' s.

 

Weapons fire exploded around his armor some of which was from Radicchio who was firing to free himself. "HEY! Watch the friendly fire!" Doseki had to disengage his anchors and drive backwards to avoid a blaster bot to his hood and the encroaching root and attached orifice that wanted to devour him. Doseki looked down at his HUD and seen the screen flashing signaling that his elemental cannon had been primed to fire for some time and was needing release. "Oh that cannot be good..." Dropping the anchors as quickly as he could Doseki took aim on the expanding kaiju and released Makuta on it!

Oblitus would find no problem fleeing, the elevator closed, cacooning him in silence and beginning to accelerated upwards.

The stunned muaka slipped behind a statue, confident in it's safety from the Kanoka. This fact prompted a roar of surprise and pain when the disc flew in a wide arc, bypassing the statue and coming back to cut deeply into it's left flank. Digging it's paws into the ground like a bull, it took aim at the Steltian and charged, thousands of kilos of muscle and anger driving breakless at highway speeds.

The Le-Matoran looked around at his crewmates.

 

"I feel like we've been here a while."

Tilla hid her mischievous grin behind a mouthful of popcorn and chucked her X-ray binoculars behind her back.

 

"Gives us time to socialize. Bond as crewmates, ya feel."

It was some time before I finally made my way back to the camp, but I did so all the same.

 

Stepping into Silat's tent, I nodded and stood at attention.

 

"Sir."

IC: Oblitus - Ascension Elevator.

 

I've had enough of this place... I looked around for the button that would hopefully take me back up to the tunnel I'd used to get inside in the first place. As I did, I felt the bulge of the unknown device in my pocket, and pulled it out.

 

The man who'd been trying to kill me had most likely died in giving this to me. Why? What is it?

IC: Lufon Vance - Leaving Vingt. 

 

I changed out of my uniform, replaced my usual mask with a simple decorative hau, and set out alone in an unmarked jeep. Silat's instructions had been both vague and simple - destabilise the other nations. The specifics of how that was done had been left up to me. 

 

My first port of call: Seize.

"Ah, good, you're back." He made no comment regarding the... problems... he'd heard that she'd encountered down in the tunnels. "I have a new assignment for you."

"This treasure is a load of #####," I grumble. Closing the lid, I stuff the few items already removed into my pockets, then I pick the chest up, intending to carry it back with me to Treize.

[Nato G]

GM IC: Silat. 

 

"I've received reports that the other nations have been sending out their own teams. I have no wish to provoke outright war by clashing with them, so I intend for us to avoid them. As such, it is imperative we get to the other ruins before they do."

IC Kat:

 

I frowned.

 

"My Exo isn't what I'd call fast, sir."

[Nato G]

GM IC: Silat.

 

"We have transports that can carry it most of the way," he replied dismissively, pulling out a map, "a group mostly composed of mercs has already accessed the site known as Burial. We believe they've made off with some kind of weapon. Given the position of Ascension, it's probably safe to assume that someone has reached it as well." 

 

His finger shifted up the coastline from their current location - Dragon - to a marker on the edge of Motara - Equalizer. "We need you to go here, and claim the site before anyone else does."

"Any intel on what to expect there?"

GM IC: Silat. 

 

"I sent a couple of scouts out that way when we first arrived here. They haven't reported back."

IC Kat:

 

I frowned again.

 

"Right then. I'll keep an eye out for them when I get there. When do I leave?"

[Nato G]

GM IC: Silat.

 

"Whenever you're ready. I've got a half-dozen men and two trucks waiting for you outside. Your exo is being loaded onto one of them as we speak. Once we've finished with this facility, the rest of us will be heading to Equalizer as well."

IC Kat:

 

I nodded, snapped a quick salute, then let myself out of the tent.

 

"Alright, boys and girls, let's not keep the Vingt brass waiting! Get set up, we leave in five!"

GM IC: 

 

The troops had been given explicit instructions to follow the mercenaries orders (within reason, of course), so when she told them to get ready, that was exactly what they did.

 

Weapons were checked, exos were firmly secured to the bays of the trucks, and within the five minutes specified, the group were piling into the vehicles, waiting for Kat to get into the first truck.
