The Monster dashed forwards, smashing the rocks aside and portaling through the wall. "We had lots of fun, but it's time for me to go. Besides, I wouldn't miss this next event for the world."

 

Scriva's telekinetic blast had been a tad too late, missing the monster and brushing by his back legs before he disappeared. Silence fell over the room again.

 

That, and the realization that someone was dying next to them.

 

 

 

 

"Turaga council hacked the place and set it to a timed shutdown." Halmos said, agony and venom filling each word. "If they pulled it off, it would lead to a series of events that would lock down the Asylum so that there would be no way out. That can't happen, so I shut it down in advance to prev-"

 

Kovika's stuttering suddenly interrupted him. "Very well. Only you don't go past the security line, understand?" He snapped. "I'm coming along. I have the only key to the thing."

[Nato G]

IC: Fade - Cafeteria. 

 

"Who's supposed to stay here and look after the rest of the patients?" Fade growled. Halmos had ordered everyone to go to the cafeteria, and apart from the few who'd escaped, most of them were still here.

IC: Scriva - Hallway.

 

For a few moments, Scriva was torn. She could go after the monster; it seemed to be even smarter now, and despite the fact that the Siphon was offline, it's powers still seemed to work fine. Someone had to stop it....

 

But the guard was dying right here in front of her; she needed to help him....

 

No. These guards had done nothing to help her during her time here. If the monster wasn't stopped, a lot more people than just this one guard were going to die. She started running towards where the monster had last been standing, reaching out with her telepathy to figure out where it had done this time.

"Look, I can fill this room to the brim with Vahki, but if Nyhe's calling you out of this area knowing you're making sure people don't kill each other, it's probably important." Halmos snapped his fingers, and a guard, who had just thrown his busted battery case away, came over to him. "Yes sir?"

 

"I need you to place seve- no, twelve Vahki in this room and seal the door when we leave. No riots must occur, and keep it barred until we return."

 

 

 

Scriva almost immediately found the monster, all right - it was very quietly following Sal, in the cell section. Of course, it was either trying to kill her or bother her, but it wasn't much more than four bio behind her.

IC: Fade - Cafeteria.

 

"Alright, fine. Let's go...."

IC: Scriva - Hallways.

 

Leaving Lana and the guard behind, Scriva took off down the halls, homing in on the monster's psychic signature.

Halmos escorted Kovika and Fade along to the siphon room, the door to the cafeteria staying open only long enough for the Vahki to pour in. At the door, Halmos inputted the key code with impressive speed, half looking away as he did so, eing so used to it. The door swung open, and inside they found...

 

Nothing.

 

Still, Halmos would give it a full examination, but motioned by his hand gesture and the fire in his eyes for Kovika to stay put. He then slid under the security chain and turned on his flashlight.

IC: Fade - Siphon Room.

 

"What exactly did Doctor Nyhe want us to come here for?" he growled at Kovika.

Halmos looked to Kovika as well. What was her intention? Nyhe wouldn't dare risk breaking the trust of Halmos, he knew well of that. Plus, Nyhe didn't play games with people for sport either. There was motive behind it.

 

And it would be idiotic to not tell Kovika at least some of it and have him run off to explain to Fade.

IC: "Five-Knuckled" Sal - ???

Sal continued to make her way throughout the asylum, making especially sure to avoid the security cameras as she progressed towards her eventual destination. The sound of voices, mostly coming from a nearby guard's radio, forced her to stop for a moment as she quickly pressed herself up against a wall to avoid detection. She didn't even dare to breathe as the two members of Fade's goon squad passed her by, too busy rushing towards their newly assigned sectors to even notice her as she slipped by them and quickly began walking once more.

Come on... Come on... It's got to be around here somewhere...

Eventually coming across an unlocked door (well, actually a door that suddenly became unlocked due to Sal's, shall we say, powers of persuasion), she stepped inside, slowly shutting it behind her and breathing a sigh of relief at the knowledge that she had just entered one of the few rooms in the entire asylum where she wouldn't have to worry about security cameras (unless, of course, either Halmos or Fade had also recently added being a dirty pervert to their resumés of idiocy). Strolling casually across the room, she began "opening" lockers left and right, eventually finding one that contained both a standard uniform (complete with keycard for accessing those areas that were bound to be more secure than the average cafeteria or rec room) belonging to a female guard and a mirror. She was just about to reach for it in order to change out of her patient attire when she noticed the crookedness of her nose in the reflection, causing her to frown.

Can't he do anything right...?

Noticing a lone pencil resting on the shelf near the top of the compartment, she reached up for it, bringing her face closer towards the inside of the door as she readied herself for what was about to come next.

Crack.

Son of a Karzing Brakas...!

Letting the wooden writing implement fall out of her nostril and onto the floor as she gritted her teeth and readjusted the bandage on her face, she pulled out her new set of clothes and quickly changed into them, retrieving the seemingly unused hat before draping it firmly over her head in order to both complete her new look while simultaneously obscuring her signature mohawk from view. Stuffing what remained back inside before closing the door, she pulled the visor over her face with her uninjured hand and proceeded to exit the room, hoping that her new duds would prevent the rest of the guards from immediately picking her out on surveillance.

IC: Scriva - Hallways.

 

Scriva came barreling around the corner and nearly ran right into Sal. It took her a moment to recognise her. "What are you doing?" she hissed, still searching telepathically for the monster. It was so close, but she couldn't see it....

IC: "Five-Knuckled" Sal - Hallways

"What does it look like I'm doing?!" she spat, looking around to make sure no guards were nearby to be alerted to her presence. "I'm hiding in plain - nevermind that now. What are you doing?! I thought you were supposed to be tracking down the monster and Kazak!"

IC: Scriva.

 

"We found Kazak, but the monster escaped. I followed it.... here. To you."

IC: "Five-Knuckled" Sal - Hallways

"Well, as you can plainly see, it's not -"

And then it hit her.

Huna...

Her Fight or Flight response immediately kicked in, causing her hand to tightly wrap itself around Scriva's arm, pulling the Ce-Toa alongside her as she rounded the corner and began bolting down the hallway as fast as her Pakari-enhanced legs would take her, silently hoping that the guards weren't stupid enough to have previously admitted a patient with a Kakama.

IC: Scriva.

 

"Stop," her throat hurt from trying to talk and run at the same time, "I can't focus on running and track it at the same time." She tried to tug on Sal's arm to slow her down. "It can teleport, brakas!"

Ic: Iyanu

The Vahki stuttered for a few moments, before moving towards the cell, and then stopped.

"Oh dear. It seems as if the Vahki are... Malfunctioning." With that, Iyanu pushed his hand back slightly, and then so did the Vahki. Iyanu giggled slightly, before turning to the Vahki.

"Vahki!" He said, in a loud voice. "This guard, Akada, is an enemy and traitor to the Turaga, Makuta, and Metru Nui. Destroy him." He hoped this plan would work.

IC: "Five-Knuckled" Sal - Hallways

Karz!

Karz, Karz, Karz, Karz, Karz, Karz, Karz!

Skidding to a stop and releasing Scriva's arm, she automatically entered a fighting stance, readying her nightstick as she started glancing around for even the slightest hint of the creature's shadow. Even though the sweat now pouring down from her brow was stinging her eyes, she dared not blink, knowing full well that the second she did could very possibly be her last. She felt a pit open up in the bottom of her stomach, adrenaline coursing through her veins as she finally mustered up the courage to speak.

"Well, at least there aren't any patients in here wearing Mahikis or Komaus that we know of," she said through gritted teeth. "Otherwise we'd really be screwed."

[Nato G]

IC: Scriva.

 

"Wait, what are you trying to say?" she stopped to catch her breath. "You think it's copying out mask powers as well?" Then she froze, as her mind finished processing Sal's final words. "Sal.... it has psionics. It doesn't need a Komau."

IC: "Five-Knuckled" Sal - Hallways

"It makes sense," she growled, maintaining her vigilance. "The Siphon was weakening our Kanohi as well, after all, and I don't personally know of any Toa with the element of teleportation at their command. Besides, you of all people would be able to tell the difference between something that was actually invisible and something else that was just manipulating our senses to seem that way, wouldn't you?"

Taking a sharp breath, she attempted to maintain her composure, only to find herself trembling at the very thoughts she was suggesting.

"Maybe, but either way, the last thing we need is the creature tricking people into doing its bidding, whether it be from direct control, subtle manipulation or even... disguising itself as an ally. For all we know, it could've been manipulating the guards' minds into thinking they had it contained while secretly parading around as one of us this entire time."

IC: Scriva. 

 

"Calm down, let me see if I can find it again," she took a deep breath, stretching out a psychic probe to seek out the monster's psionic signature. She was done running. It's time to end this.

IC: Lana

 

I panted behind Scriva and Sal, I'd been too busy catching my breath and trying to keep up with them to really say anything. My little display of elemental power against the monster had been more taxing than I realized. 

 

I scanned the area with my mask, looking through walls and anything in my way, if the monster was nearby I'd see it, unless it really was invisible.

IC: Kovika - Siphon Room, or just outside of it.

"

Kovika replied to Fade. "She told me to go get you and come to the Siphon Room. Said to make sure Sal wasn't here. She told a fellow named Kotak to head to the new Security office. Then she grabbed a gun And said she was going to Hamlos' office to ensure his safety."

IC: Fade - Siphon Room.

 

Fade wasn't stupid. If Nyhe had known that Fade was still in the cafeteria, she had to have known Halmos was there as well. "She lied to you," he turned to Halmos, "this is a waste of our time; Nyhe's sent us on a wild rahi chase."

GM IC Nyhe (Hallways):

Nyhe ran as fast as she could towards the Armory, but stopped in the halls as Sal and Scriva.

 

"Sal! Scriva! No time, we've gotta get to the Siphon AQAP! Fade and Kovika are waiting there for us!"

 

GM IC Kazak (Dying):

Ugh... Just my luck... Well, at least Scriva made it out alive...

 

I wonder if that Lana girl made it out... Probably, but... 

 

"ARGH!"

 

Great... I'm very much dying...

 

I need a miracle...

 

GM IC Officer Makina (Hallways):

As Officer Makina did his daily rounds, he noticed a collapsed body in the hall.

 

"Oh, no."

 

Makina rushed to the body, and beeped his communicator.

 

"Officer Makina, badge 314. We've got a seven-eighty in Sector G, Subsector 12. I need help, AQAP!"

No, the monster wasn't invisible. But it was still there. Right on the other side of that wall...

 

A portal appeared a ways behind Sal, The monster stepping through. Only, it seemed shakier, and its step seemed to drive right through the floor, even though it didn't. It also looked angrier, if such a thing was possible.

"Boo."

 

 

 

Akada saw the Vahki walk towards him, but the high-technology security software made then stutter about, and their attempts to slash at him with lethal force ended with battering the blunt edge of their blades against him in an attempt to cut him in two. Akada couldn't stop laughing, that is until he tossed a pocketful of battery acid from earlier down onto the breathing area of Iyanu.

 

Giving him the split second he needed, he stood as high as he could under the gravity and snatched the wall communicator. "This is officer Akada! Requesting emergency backup, AQAP, Iyanu's cell!"

 

 

 

"What?!" Halmos burst into a rage. "She sent Kotak to the new security office?! Well, that's just foolish!"

 

He grabbed his tazer, only to find it burst from before. A quiet string of curses with the word Sal inputted in several areas followed. "We get to the new security office AQAP, Fade. That's where all your equipment is!"

GM IC Nyhe:

BEEP! "This is Control; Sigma's escaped! She knocked out her guards!"

"Oh... no..."

 

She turned to Kovika and Kotak. "Kovika,  go get Fade, and get to the Siphon and make sure Sal's not there. Kotak, get to the new Security office, give them clearance code 895-Alpha-Bravo-Delta. They'll know what to do. And, don't try to escape. I'm headed to Halmos's office to make sure he's safe."

 

Nyhe opened her drawer and took out a small firearm. "Let's hope I won't have to use this."

Ic Kotak:

 

He nodded, The location marked on a map on the wall, he made his way quickly to the Security room, bursting through the doors.

 

The men inside looked surprised, one reaching for a weapon.

 

"I'm here on Nyhe's orders. Clearance code 895-Alpha-Bravo-Delta. She said you'd know what to do."

 

He formed an icy sword in his hand, layering it in such a way that it was strong as steel.

 

"Best move fast, we're going on a monster hunt."

IC: Kovika

"If we waste time here, why should we remain here any longer than nessecary? Where to Hamlos?" Kovika said as he formed gauntlets of frost over his hands.

One of the guards stepped back a few feet. He slowly looked at his comrades. "You heard it. Get the box."

 

 

A brutish guard, some unidentifiable species, came back with a huge metal case. It had security locks all over it. It had to weigh a ton, for despite his obvious strength, he was almost staggering underneath it. His face was pale. Not from lifting it though, more of the shock that it was necessary.

 

"Where to?" The first guard asked, a nervous tone to his voice.

 

 

 

Halmos stopped Kovika from talking any further. "I'm getting some answers." He unhooked his communicator.

 

"Nyhe? This is Halmos. What the Karz are you doing, sending Kotak to the security office?!"

IC: "Five-Knuckled" Sal - Hallways

If the monster hadn't appeared right Karzing behind her at the time of Nyhe's arrival, she would've complained about how seemingly easy it was for her to immediately see through her guard disguise.

Since it did, however, Sal spun around to meet the thing that had been hunting her, jumping a few feet backwards before blasting a bolt of lightning directly at its face.

There was no way in Karz that thing was taking her out without a fight.

IC: Lana

 

The moment the monster appeared behind Sal I let out a shriek. I really hadn't been expecting it to be that close. I launched a barrage of stones around the same time Sal made her attack.

IC: Fade.

 

"Yes sir." as much as he disliked Halmos, he wasn't the one letting patients wander freely in the security offices.

There you are.... She focused her telekinesis, trying to hold the monster in place while the others attacked.

GM IC Nyhe:

Nyhe activated her communicator.

 

"Yeah, I'm in the middle of something here!"

 

Nyhe took her gun out of its holster and fired at the beast.

 

"We've gotta get to the siphon, NOW!"

 

Nyhe pressed a different button on her communicator.

 

"Kotak, get that box to the siphon, NOW!"

Ic Kotak:

 

Shrugging, he took the box from the first guard, and hefted it onto his shoulder, moving a bit more slowly through the halls to the Siphon room.

 

"What's in this thing, Nyhe?"

Halmos stayed listening to the communicator until the line went dead. He brought a hand to his head as he groaned out "Nyhe..."

 

It seemed he was either going to have a fit of depression or break somebody's mask in two.

 

 

 

The lightning spread across the creature and harmlessly hit the air. The stones, however, battered the beast but did nothing but momentarily annoy it. It held its ground until it saw the gun, when it ducked the blast. It intended to move forwards and tear through Sal's chest, but Scriva was keeping it in place. The monster let out a laugh that was incredibly loud, but a guard passing through a nearby hall neither heard it nor turned to look. He continued on without another thought. "You imbeciles think you can harm me! Ha!"

 

The monster plunged the room into darkness, its form seemingly illuminating the area. "Run, cowardly fools, lest you meet your graves!" The walls seemed to twist and warp, changing the perspective of the room and seemingly altering everything about it.

[Nato G]

IC: Scriva - Hallway.

 

"Nice try," Scriva could see the monster's weakness. It had managed to block or evade every attack except hers, which could only mean one thing: it was vulnerable to psionics. 

 

"I'm not running," Scriva spat, defiant. She altered the application of her telekinetic force: instead of trying to hold the creature in place, she was now attempting to shove it away. "You are."

GM IC Nyhe:

"Let's get out of here!"

 

Nyhe ran as fast as she could towards the Siphon, gesturing for Scriva and Sal to follow her.

 

She beeped her communicator. "Kotak, that box is what's gonna save our behinds!"

 

She realized Scriva was trying to fight it.

 

"Scriva, let's go!"

The monster, surprisingly, stayed put. It let out another laugh, this one of Officer Akada. "Pathetic."

 

It sent out a blast of telekinetic power, the same one he had used to block Scriva's power. "You are getting away lucky. Don't make me seal your fate."

IC: Scriva - Hallway.

 

She sensed the blast coming and summoned up a telekinetic shield to block the attack. "Why?" she challenged, making careful note of the voice the monster was using, "What's the point to letting us escape?"

"You're too nearsighted to understand." It hissed again, but this time in her own voice. "I gave you your leave. You can run, or..."
 
The floor and walls stopped shifting. Darting to the side, the monster darted to the wall facing the hallway to the siphon room. It suddenly reared its back to the wall and water was seen dripping from its mouth.
 
"I'll break your bones."

IC: Scriva - Hallway.

 

Broken bones? This monster knew nothing about her, and the pain she'd suffered. A crushed ribcage, splintered limbs, burns to every inch of her body. She'd already endured far worse than anything this beast could throw at her.

 

"This isn't over," she promised, walking calmly backwards in the direction the others had gone in.

"Too late."

 

A huge blast of water shot down the halls, tearing some of the wallpaper off. The force would be enough to crush anyone underneath it,  and unless Nyhe and her party picked up the pace really fast, they would be flattened.

IC: Scriva - Hallway.

 

The monster had used telekinesis to block some of her earlier attacks, so Scriva decided it was time to return the favour. Rather than outright blocking the torrent of water, she summoned up a mental funnel that forced the water to go to either side of her, slowing it down enough that it wouldn't do any permanent damage. 

 

Breathing hard from the effort, she let the water push her down the hall, away from the beast.
