  1. that's pretty much why i'm planning to change back to an English major, though knowing of vocations in that field beforehand is more to help my own anxieties (it lessens the fears and stuff i have regarding my own future, like makes me feel a little safer and less nights of wanting to throw up). teaching came up just as i was thinking of possible careers one hour and i actually felt pretty happy at the idea of becoming an English teacher down the road, though the anxious side of me gets more like "can you be financially stable and live where you want on their salary, could you support a child if you got married and wanted to adopt, could you afford therapy and other medical expenses, would you end up in a position of crippling finances," etc... and a lot of other things that just slowly start to become irrational (and i know all can be covered since like, i knew my old English teacher and she lived completely fine).

but yeah, it's the route i'm most likely gonna go since it puts a lot of my mind at ease (and i don't need to sit in business classes), and it's a subject i enjoy a lot even if i'm not the best at it.

  2. You can read the books (which I highly, highly recommend), you can read fanfiction by other fans (there are definitely talented HP fan writers out there), you can write fanfiction (fun way to stay creative), you could find a HP Roleplay (which again can be pretty fun, if the people are delightful and the characters are engaging), you could also draw the characters, or your favorite scenes, or even write poetry or music about it or something. They're all fun things to do, and whatever you create doesn't necessarily have to be amazing or wonderful in the eyes of others, it's about enjoying the time creating it (I've written a lot of fanfiction about various series I'd never post, lol).

  3. To be honest, you don't need to hold a leadership position within a fandom or community if you want to change it. Calling out disgusting behavior, dangerous statements, or similar is what most people mean when they say that since, if the people are worth respecting at all, they might learn not to continue with those comments, phrases, or come to understand that displaying graphic content (gore, or otherwise) of a kids show on either forums dedicated to it (which should be PG, given the target audience of the show), or that leaving it untagged for anyone to stumble across isn't appropriate.

Simply telling other people "we're not all like this" doesn't solve any problems that do exist and, if you don't want people thinking as such, then one would need to proactively try to reign in or completely remove some of the more detestable things that do come up when it's found.

Enoy the show, enjoy the fandom, and yes there are plenty of people who use the label "brony" who aren't dangerous people who create unsafe spaces for those the show is directed at. But to say such people aren't there, or that they ought be ignored, isn't going to help the situations where those people may attempt  to do something dangerous or may put works derived from the show that really shouldn't be put in public spaces that ought be safe for children who like the show.

  4. I'm pretty sad that there doesn't seem to be more options coming out (soon) for the PS4 at least, granted that's the console I did buy as it's the console most my friend's preordered and the Playstation line tends to have a plethora of games I like... but most of what I'm interested isn't coming out for a while. Though I know Final Fantasy titles are coming, along with Kingdom Hearts, and those are some of the series I tend to binge on when a game for them is released <.<;;

(then again I'm kinda involved wiht games that can hold me over, namely Wildstar and Archeage >.>; )

But I liked Nintendo's showing, it made me partly wish I sprung for a Wii U when I had the money (though, how much of that is huge nostalgia glasses for games like Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros. and Zelda idk -- I skipped a Wii U since my family didn't seem interested playing those multiplayer family games, and my friends didn't grab the system and... well, Nintendo's never been fun to play without some friends).

  5. I mostly said what I said because of the above (where Indigo mentioned that they would cut ties with people who held harmful beliefs) and was more adding a "you're not required to hang around people who make you feel uncomfortable, and it's entirely up to you whether or not you would want to try and reason with them if they can be reasoned with." Since, at the end of the day, generally friends aren't made to try changing their worldviews from the onset, generally friends are made so that one may feel comfortable, open and safe with them.

  6. Yo, Reznas.

    - Claiming women aren't fit for the battlefield is an example of a bigoted old-fashioned standpoint. (One you defended in the thread it occurred in). I have no idea where you're going with "But some are good!" when the specific instance where this occurred on site was not that case in the least, and this defense is used like... all the time before someone says something that is sexist, racist, homophobic, transphobic and so forth.

    - Those viewpoints are actually harmful because they lead into stereotypes, societal expectations and reinforce meaningless gender roles that only serve to blockade individuals from what they may want to pursue or do.

    - I don't even know why you're claiming your freedom of speech is being curbed, when technically none of us have that on BZPower because BZPower is not a public forum owned by the government and is a private forum owned by individuals. Or, do you just not have valid responses to why old fashioned values are by and large bigoted and harmful in some manner, as seen on this very website?

  7. i swear if i wasn't too scared to have my ears pierced, there would be 10+ million different little things i own turned into earrings (and i'd be the #1 buyer of clikits that day forward) and i would blame this entry for making me realize little plastic toys can be turned into jewelry.

  8. it wigs me out that it (was?) a thing where that's not balanced in a tabletop game, mostly since (as it's described to me) d&d always seemed the type of game the person running it could alter to cater things so players who aren't min/maxing things can feel important/have fun

i only played it once very briefly and that was... 4th edition i think, so i prolly sound dumb but w/e

  9. are you going under abilities, white magic, selecting the spell and selecting a character to use it on?

what is your white mage's job level and what spell is it specifically? (I'm guessing just Cure? Which should be able to be used with the White Mage Job at level 1)

if that's not it, then i'm not sure what the issue would be unless your mage is suffering from a status ailment like sleep, or silence, or is just lacking the MP to cast it. or if it's just some weird demo bug.

  10. hopefully they do what makes them feel fulfilled as artists (though i wouldn't really say that they're necessarily going mainstream and tuning their music for popularity than passion because they made a track for a movie, unless they themselves said something to that effect in an interview).

i'm not like, hugely knowledgeable about the music industry and precisely how it works and all that, but i mean if they're making music they love and pour their passion into, then their songs will likely still hold that same quality as before (if not better)... buuuuut i also do not know how much control record companies have (presuming one picked them up and they signed a contract and all that) over the people they take on and publicize, though i imagine they have enough power to forcefully get the artists to change their music so that it's more popular... and popular things aren't always particularly meaningful or passionate (though there are exceptions). which would suck, because i love running into new artists to listen to music from that's not like the 90billion songs played on the radio that only occasionally appeal to me (like, something that has a more unique style, with interesting and gripping lyrics... even if half the songs i listen to are sung in a language i don't understand >.> [or lack lyrics altogether])

but idk i prolly rambled a little bit and my lack of musical knowledge prolly showed through all between all those spaces (kinda just a "i hope they do what makes them happy" post).

(this is also coming from someone who likes to listen to pon pon pon <.<)
