What Kind Of Music Do You Listen To

I enjoy lots of music, but nearly none of it is mainstream. I've found that there's such a wide variety of uncommon music that I like. I really enjoy game/movie soundtracks, ska/reggae, jazz, alternative, 70-80s rock, and a lot of genre-blending music. I also really, really love funk rock!

I personally favour:

  • [*]Classical[*]Soundtrack[*]Jazz[*]60s - 80s Rock (e.g. the Beatles, Pink Floyd)

I have a deep dislike for rap, and indeed most music from after 1990 (unless it's soundtrack). As a rule, I hate anything that's on that music channel they always have on the TV in my common room. Viva, I think it's called. Ugh.

A bunch of mostly rock and various random songs with mostly political messages I find on the video site not to be mentioned. That's not actually a representation of what I listen to, it's more of what I listen to most of the time. I listen to a lot of stuff, and I'm not particularly biased against any genre.-Dovydas

Let's see...

  • [*]90's arcade game soundtracks, Super Street Fighter II Turbo and Super Street Fighter II, mostly.[*]Rock - I'm not really a fan of one band or another, but I listen to quite a bit of Cryoshell and Linkin Park.[*]More recent game soundtracks - Portal, Halo, (Super) Street Fighter IV, and a few others.

I do not like:

  • [*]Rap[*]Metal[*]Techno in general, though I make exceptions every now and then

Every moment gives us a chance to become more than what we are.

-Ryu, Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike: Fight for the Future

Not luck. It's what you do that makes you a hero.

-Kopaka Nuva, MoL

I have but one destiny.

I like various songs from nearly all genres: rock, alternative rock, pop rock, jazz, country, rap, soul, classical, and soundtrack. The only genres I don't like at all are death and doom metal because of the screaming; in addition, I don't listen to a lot of rap because far too many rap songs include profanity and suggestive content.

EDM (Electric Dance Music). For example: -Trance-House-Electro-Tech House-Electronic-Dubstep-Drumstep-Brostep-Psychedelic Dance-Techno (a little bit)-Dance-Electro House-Electropop (sometimes) Another genre I love is Drum & Bass, especially when it has Electronic elements (Pendulum, Netsky, Nero) I also like some select bands in the following genres: -Rock-Gothic Rock-Contemporary Hard Rock-Metal-Power Metal-General Rock But 95% of the time I listen to EDM. I'm a huuuuuge EDM nerd. And I could go on for hours explaining why. http://www.bzpower.com/board/public/style_emoticons/default/sarcastic.gif

I have a great love for music that contains Orchestra and Choir. Though I mainly listen to Trailer Music, I also listen to Game, TV, and Movie Soundtracks, Classical, Contemporary, 'Epic Rock' (like Globus) and World. Bands/Groups/Companies/Composers I am very fond of include, but are not limited to: Two steps From H-ll.Immediate Music/Imperativa Records/Immediate/Globus/Trailer BeastAudioMachinee s Posthumus/the Vonlichten BrothersThomas BergersenHans ZimmerLudwig von Beethoven Wolfgang Amadeus MozartMatthew L. FisherJeff van Dyke Anything outside of Orchestra and Choir (save Country Music, Christian, Classic Rock and the every-now-and-then Punk/Grunge Rock) tends to annoy me, especially Rap, Metal, and Techno. I can stray for a little bit, but after a while, my ear's long for those angelic choirs and sweeping orchestras. :P

A little bit of this, a bit of that... Rock.Metal.Pop.Classical.Orchestral and Soundtrack.Electronic (but please, no Afrojack etc., those hurt my ears.)Some traditional native music from Asia. I don't mind spiritual stuff either, as long as it isn't overtly religious. ^_^

Instrumental electronic. Or electronic with minimum vocals. Or electronic where the vocals don't hinder the song's quality.

Pffffft. I know I should recognize your username, where else have I seen you? :P/offtopic/backonetopicI once heard a song on the radio that started out all country... I was thinking "oh dear..." When heavy guitars kicked in. It totally took me by surprise, I'be never heard something like that before. :P

No, I meant heavy rock and country. I've heard country rock and stuff, but nothing like really hard rock and country together.

Nothing but Christian gangster rap and dubstep made with bluegrass covers of the movie Titanic. But seriously? Classic rock, alternative rock, and hip-hop/rap. I just sort of mix and match from those three plus whatever interests me. Dubstep is pretty cool too.

Rock, especially goth or pop punk. I also love Jpop, Jrock and Vocaloid music. Plus, there's anime music, which isn't always Jpop.

Modern Music: I'm not too fond of rap, but Matisyahu's King Without a Crown is really cool. Though it isn't truly rap, it's a mixture of reggae and rap. The Black Keys have some cool music too, it's more Classic Rock I guess. As far as modern pop stars go, Shakira's songs, mainly the ones that she sings in spanish, sound different, which is a good thing. Her English music sounds like any other pop star, though.

-Old hip hop (Run DMC, DJ Premier)-Indie rock (Bloc Party, Weezer)-80's pop (A-ha)-Electropop (La Roux, Chromeo)-French House (my favorite)-UK dubstep (Skream, sort of Nero)-Glitch dubstep (DatsiK)-Drum and bass (Nero)-Chiptune (aka keygen music)-Classical meets electronic (Like the Tron soundtracks, I mean both movies. Wendy Carlos is a legend, and Daft Punk is awesome)-Electro (Sorta fits in French House, but Digitalism, Boys Noize, and SebastiAn)-Classic rock (-ish)-Blues-ish rock (Black Keys and Franz Ferdinand)-Glitch (Not exactly glitch, but "Cross"-era Justice, especially the harder-hitting tracks) Basically anything that sounds good to me. I'm pretty open with my music taste. In general if it has been on either pop music radio stations in Toronto recently a lot it won't go on my list. I personally dig a warm, slightly distorted blues-ish guitar sound in rock. So screamo isn't exactly my type. Most of my iPod playlist (257 songs as of this post) is French electro, followed by synth pop and dubstep.

I don't really like rap much. There are a few that are either really funny or really catchy that I kinda like, but It's just not my thing. 50's, 60's, and 70's (rather debatable,) now that's some incredible music! All those delicious vocal harmonies are nothing like music today, yet they were ultimately insturmental in bringing it about. Oddly enough, I think that the Beatles are seriously overated. Granted, they were talented, but they really only had about 20 or so good songs that everyone knows about. I can think of plenty of other groups and solo singers of the same era whose equally great musical abilities were lost beneath all the Beatlehype. Bobby Vee, The Echoes, The Castells, The Happenings, and even Lou "Latter-Day-Beiber-Falsetto" Christie are virtually forgotten by most people today despite being arguably on par with The Beatles in terms of musical ability. There are tons of hidden gems from the era if you look closely enough! Ok, I've had my rant http://www.bzpower.com/board/public/style_emoticons/default/tounge2.gif Apart from Oldies, I also like some Jazz (modern and some Big Band, Artie Shaw especially) and some pop and modern soft rock.
