IC Brontes

Ak'Rei'An?

It was clear from his behavior and his speech that whoever I might've known before had died, even if I did regret leaving Dahkapa there. If that cult had gotten to him... only my memories would remain. I'd heard the stories about what they did to initiates, how they operated and what they did to their victims. I was a fool not to have connected the zombie raising attackers of Ko-Koro and the Brotherhood before now. Electricity crackled in my right hand as my left reached and took firm hold of my white sword's handle.

"Do exactly as she said, and do it quickly."

IC Forger

I came out of my room a few minutes later, stuffing a couple things into my satchel.

"Let's get moving."

IC: Dahkapa (Ta-Koro | With Bohrei and Brontes)

His head turned and she looked at Bohrei for the first time. "I gave no orders. I asked a coward to pay his moral debt. Am I not being just and fair, lady? And please release your grip of whatever weapon you have in your bag. Violence only breeds violence, and must be used only if it's beneficial for the society, such as when the knights of the Archangel opened the eyes of myself and other inhabitants of Ko-Koro so they could see the Light. That also happens to be the role played by the 'little cult' in the occupation of my home city. It's no secret, so you may tell anyone if you want."

Calmly turning to face Brontes again, he said "All I will ask from you is a small service. Will you refuse to do it? Remember, Brontes, it's never good to make enemies. What I ask you isn't against the law and will only take an hour from your life at most: I ask you to just escort me to Akiri Jaller and make sure he will meet me, for I desire to speak with him personally. Because of my different religion, I am afraid of injust treatment and persecution, so I need your help."

"Am I asking for too much, dear cowardly friend?"

IC: Dartakh (Ta-Koro, Forger's home | With Forger, Enforcer and Vandal)

He turned to face Forger when he appeared, hands crossed on his broad chest. "Do we need anything else from this scorching hot furnace-city, or can we finally leave?"

"That's the end of that. Ril, you can get off the board now." I said, pleased by my obvious win. I applauded the guy for being such a good sport, and then I retrieved my knives, wiping the one with his blood on it before strapping them to my belt again.

"By the way, when do we leave for Ko? If we're here for a few days, I'm going to have to find myself a place to stay."

Another thought also popped into my head.

"Also, any of you know where I can mail a letter? I need something sent to Le."

IC: Bohrei [Ta-Koro Hospital]

"I'm familiar with your 'religion'," the Skakdi replied, ice lining her voice.  "I've always thought it a great irony that for a cult so afraid of their own death, the first thing they do is kill the minds of their members."

She tightened her grip on her revolver, but did not draw it; no reason to show what exactly she was armed with.  "In any event, thanks to that little comment about the Akiri, your choices have just been upgraded.  Now you may either leave the city, be arrested, or be subdued.  I don't have high hopes for the first, but I've had to correct my assumptions in the past."

Now would be an excellent time for another guardsman or ten to drop by.

I made no movement away from my weapon, nor had Bohrei. In my hand, a sizable amount of elemental electricity had gathered. It'd be enough to knock him out cold.

IC: Jedaros

Jedaros walked through the Koro. As he did so, he made sure the long pouch on his side was securely shut. For the umpteenth time, it sure was. Could never be sure, though, didn't want a stray ember of just intense heat setting off the ten-odd flares in there. Jedaros sighed. He was, what you call, a wanderer. An adventurer, if you must. Remember: was. He was a little old now, he had fought his battles. Jedaros still enjoyed a fight every now and again, but he didn't want to go on some magical journey unless he absolutely had to. Perhaps a job in the guard?

That could work. Why not? Perhaps they have a need for a guy with an Arthron and a gun that shoots flares.

Perhaps.

OOC: Jedaros open for interaction.

IC: Dahkapa (Ta-Koro Hospital | With Bohrei and Brontes)

Before his conversion he would've ran away from a threatening situation like this, but now he chuckled dryly.

"I am then happy to tell you that I left the Brotherhood after we were banished from Ko-Koro due to the incompetence of our Grandmaster. But I must admit that I'm shocked: simply because I admitted to worship a different god you assume that I am a mad, murderous cultist. Do you realize how intolerant and ignorant both of you sound? I have never killed anyone and only caused harm to others in self-defence, such as during the Battle of Ko-Koro, so you are being judgemental for no reason. I have also broken no laws, although perhaps you may consider me as having threatened a guardsman.."

He rubbed his chin with his hand for a moment and examined the serious, threatening faces of the Skakdi and the Toa.

"Very well then, if there's no other way to make you listen, you may take me to be interrogated. I have valuable information for Akiri Jaller about the defences of Ko-Koro, perhaps even about the location of the hostages. I would be glad to help you retake my home city from Echelon and his twisted servants."

He raised both of his arms, ready for handcuffs. "Arrest me, Brontes the Coward."

Could my so called sixth sense, my danger sense if you would, have been any higher right now?

Probably not. The appearance of Dahpaka was enough to ruffle my feathers, causing the unease I felt in the hospital to coalesce into a more palpable mood. His insistence on seeing the Akiri, the claim of information he wanted to divulge and now willingly offering himself for arrest only served to irritate it further. I could see Bohrei still had her hand on what I presumed was a weapon, so I moved my hand off my sword's grip, grabbing for a pair of handcuffs in my satchel and producing them.

"Anything funny and I'm not going to hesitate to put you down. Got it?" I approached and cuffed him, ready to discharge my stored electrical charge at the slightest sign of aggression. For good measure, I pulled his arms behind him and cuffed him, putting my right hand on his shoulder and turning him bodily around before turning back to the coroner. "I'll be back once I've taken him to HQ." I turned back to Dahkapa. "Standard procedure dictates I remove your Kanohi."

I reach out to remove it, primed to react to any odd movements with a jolt of electricity.

IC Forger

The rest of the trip in Ta-Koro passed quickly. We went to the market, procured some supplies and were on our way within the hour. The sun was maybe a hand and a half above the horizon, it'd be good traveling conditions to pass through the volcanic badlands between here and Laka Pala. From there on out it'd be easy travel. Good roads, mild weather. I relayed as much to the others before we reached the southern gate, the long winding road before us twisting through the ash fields into the distant green of the Le-Wahi forests.

"All good?"

Still standing stolidly by the porch and it's red and black occupants, she clasped her hands behind her back and cleared her throat.

"Well, I trust you all won't be breaking into any more homes today, and I don't believe you're likely to endanger anyone sans yourselves. So..." She trailed off awkwardly, a nagging feeling was in the back of her mind, spurred on by the Onu-Toa's query about her and this Saeva's relationship.

"Actually, perhaps I will escort you back. It is near night fall and the road to Ta-Koro happens to be part of my purview." She lied, "I can explain to your parents that you were simply sight seeing if they are suspicious."

I sighed, seems they were all leaving, and as entertaining as things had been I was now quite exhausted. I had come here with a purpose after all, and all these distractions had just delayed it. "So does this mean I can finally get some sleep?"

When Pae and his two Vortixx partners were sent in by the Guards, they were sent not to Tuara Drigton's old office, but to the Guard rec room - mostly empty, the center's pool table was currently playing host to the Captain and Jolek, carrying on their topic and several other topics all at once while Angel cued up. They seemed to keep the plethora of conversations categorized well enough.

"--ish I'd swallowed my pride and just asked Shaddix to train me," he was telling the Toa of Magnetism. "He was on the payroll and I've never seen a better duelist, he fought Heuani for Spirit's sake. Me, you know, the sword's pretty and all but I spent most of my life with a simple kuk--"

"Captain!"

Both jungle Toa looked up, and Angelus' face grew more serious.

"You can go," he told Pae's escort. "Jol, stay."

When the room had been cleared, the Captain of the Guard pushed the cue back on its rack with one hand and rounded the pool table, hand outstretched warily for Pae to shake.

"Kino's friend," he said out loud, less of a question, as if both of them needed vague reminding of the fact. "The one who smuggled Korzaa out of Ko. And I'm assuming this is the rest of your outfit. Angelus. Ta-Koro Guard. What do you need?"

IC: Pae - Ta-Koro - Guard Recreational Room

Pae looked down at Angelus' hand, and after a brief awkward moment, he reached out and took it. Without a reference to his companions - he preferred that if they wanted to be properly identified, they should do so themselves - Pae spoke softly, happy that Angelus had gotten right to the point, "Names," he started "We search for those who killed the Turaga. Do you have such information?"

I eyed this Captain warily. Last time I'd run in with the Guard, Jaller'd been in charge. He still was, I guess, but only as much as Vakama-

dOn'T

-had been in his time. Now Angelus (jungle boy, if the rumours were true) was El Capitano, and let me just say, I wouldn't mind getting arrested if he was the one putting the handcuffs on. I could almost picture it- the dim Ta-Koro dungeon, lit by flickering torches. Angelus leading me to my cell, hands cuffed behind my back. Watching him slip the key in the lock, then pull the heavy iron door open, muscles rippling beneath his skin. The heat making him break out in a light, shiny sweat. I wonder how many crunches he did every day to get those abs...

"Names," Pae said, snapping me back to reality. "We search for those who killed the Turaga. Do you have such information?"

Any trace of the Captain's young, guarded face that had retained an air of casual friendliness hardened up in thought. After several tense seconds, he turned to Jolek and shrugged one shoulder.

"You too, Jolek," he ordered. "Out. We'll talk later."

The Toa of Magnetism glanced to the three guests, back to his friend, and then shrugged, sidling out after the escort with the rest of the bag of fries. The Captain watched him go over Jin's shoulder, drifted over to meet the Vortixx's gaze, and then went back to the rack. Brandishing the pool stick expertly in one hand, he bent down on the end of the table opposite Pae's unit and rested one forearm palm-down. The pool stick snaked between his index and middle fingers.

"As I'm sure all three of you know, Dorian Shaddix has gone on record publicly, coarsely, and often stating that he murdered Turaga Vakama in cold blood, all by himself. He knows details that only someone who was involved in the conspiracy could glean. He says he took it pro bono, one last job, because he knew he'd never top it. I chased him for three years, and he's such a perfect suspect that I'm positive he's taking the fall. As for the others, nothing concrete. Names. Targets. We had a face for one of them, Skakdi of Gravity sighted with the Toa Daedra the night of Nokama's death, but he's dead. Organs crushed inside his torso bare-handed. Shaddix again." Angelus looked up warily at the two Vortixx he didn't know, and then back to Pae.

"As for the names and targets themselves, they're classified. Vakama meant them for his elites." His blue eyes, once so guileless, beheld each of them with military suspicion, looking for something he could trust in any of them. "I've been good about you so far, because Kino knows you and Kino's spoken for you. You brought Korzaa out of Ko-Koro, and whether you did it for pay or not, that's more than most can say. But if you want something like this out of me, you're going to have to be straight with me about who you really are and why you need it. This is serious stuff you're into."

I watched the pool cue glide effortlessly between the Captain's dexterous fingers, and wondered how to get those names without trading everything else. Like my name. And my past.

"Keeping those names classified won't bring them to justice," I said, doing my best to banish the mental image of those slender fingers tip-toeing their way up my spine. "If you wanted this done, all you had to do was put up a dozen posters and watch an army of do-gooders descend on those assassins within the week."

I folded my arms and leaned casually (I hope) against the wall.

"So why 'elites?' This island's full of wannbe heroes and mercenary scum who'd take on this job in a heartbeat." I gestured to myself. "Exhibit A. So why keep it secret? What do you have to lose?"

IC: Munching on his thirteenth fry (keeping track was smart) for that meal, the Fa-Toa let out a short, amused, and singular chuckle. More waiting, huh? He was starting to see why his old man never wanted anything to do with the guard.

That and one of his infamous revolutionary speeches would get him kicked out faster than even perhaps his mother could kick the man onto the couch.

Fourteen, topped with ketchup.

Nah, that was wrong. Nobody kicked Perkahn faster than Arianna Highwind. Not even their son, physically gifted though he may have been.

Standing otherwise at attention outside the doorway with the bag of fries in hand, Jol thought of home to pass the time, (un)surprisingly close to here.

Dad has a key, right?

Yeah, probably. Wonder why the heck he didn't bring Rebellion, though.

Seriously,
he muttered, now conscious again of the weight on his back and how different it was from a hammer (maul?). He ain't ever without this thing normally.

Fifteen. Nice, round number to stop at, and probably smart. They had some chicken at home he needed to work a little magic on. He didn't want to fill up on potato and salt first.

Eh, I'm sure he's fine. Only Mom gets to kill him.

IC: "Was just outside..." Erzu replied, wincing slightly as Torana jabbed into a rib that Solvi's knuckles had softened up. Still too distant to fully comprehend her arm's state of being around his shoulder, he followed her lead nonetheless.

IC: [ Nika ] - Guard Rec Room

The Vortixx had left his rifle propped against the wall next to the door, cloak hanging limply off of it. He didn't like leaving his weapon -- his survival, his birthright, his partner -- so far out of reach and so close to the enemy. It was a sign of trust, though; directed to a man who had no reason to trust any of them. To achieve their aims, trust was paramount.

His eyes lingered on Jin.

Trust was paramount.

"Avoidance of lynch mobs, chaos," Nika said, his thin frame stooped and his arms crossed tightly across his chest, as though trying to make himself appear smaller. His gaze flicked over to the floor, then the pool table; it darted across Angelus' limber frame and observed Pae's stoicism and made a brave attempt at discerning his fellow Vortixx's inscrutable visage before settling back on the floor. "That would be short-term. Long-term ... Turaga killers obviously pieces in a larger game. Conspiracy. Keeping their identities secret and leaving them alive allows for opportunity to find leads to the centre of this web."

IC: [ Plagia ] - Magma Lounge

I rolled my eyes -- all in good fun, I assure you -- at Ril, getting to my feet and leaning, with one hand, on the counter. One of my classic smiles flashed itself at Alfon.

"Jeez, yeah, I'd forgotten that you'd gotten all official on me since Pala," I said. "I have to ask, man: what's it like having an actual job?"

IC: Pae - Ta-Koro - Guard Recreational Room

"Which is what we're doing," Pae said, turning to face Angelus again, deciding that with his partners responses they were prepared to move forward, "If our intent must be known then you may hear it."

The toa of iron made no more movements, until his eyes fell upon the Captain's, "We are here to offset forces of destruction. That is our job." Pae's eyes were hard cold, but full of voluminous life, " As for myself, my home Xa-Koro was destroyed by individuals with no regard for the lives of others. Manipulators who wished they had an army, and built one in the form of my people - motivated by foolish anger - and directed it to Le-Koro and later, Ko-Koro. It is those people who seek to destroy your homes like they did mine that we are to stop," Pae took a breath, "I have seen the pain of my people raze villages and destroy the lives of innocents. And since my people are the kind who are used to pain, I do not wish to see what despair the rest of this island will wield."

Pae's eyes remained unmoving, "You should not either."

"Exactly what you'd expect it to be: dull." I said, leaning on a table now. "I mean, being an officer in Le's probably the next best thing for me. They gave me a set of wings, more money than I'll ever need and it's the most action I'll ever scrape off through legal means. Party central too, yeah?"

I shrugged.

"Too restrictive, though. Ironically, the job keeps me grounded. Can't go where I want, when I want, and it's usually the same thing every single day. Unless, y'know, disaster strikes but that stuff's far and few in between." I paused for a moment; that sounded wrong. "Not that I want bad stuff to happen...I'm just used to finding the action, not waiting for it to come to me. I've met too many too many people who've been in this business longer than I've been alive, and it's sad that I have way more and way better stories than they do."

"Can you honestly picture me patrolling the same frickin' jungle, settling the same bar fights, filing the same paperwork day after day for the rest of my life?"

My grin reappears. "Money. Go."

IC: Luta, Toku and Raku - Ta-Koro

"So that's a deal, *sigh* alright"

He slowly hands over the money.

"I must say you"

Luta quickly grabbed Toku and whispered

"Don't insult the guy, trust me I know my way around these kind of things"

"You made a great decision"

"I'll go get our things"

He put the gold back into his backpack which now had more room in it thanks to there being less widgets, he then picked up the hammer which was quite heavy for a matoran.

Raku just barely got up with the help of Toku.

"Why did he do that?"

"I'll explain everything later"

"You have answers?"

"Yes I do, but what you need right now is healing"

"But where can I take him for that?"

"Try Ga-Koro"

"THANK YOU MOST GREAT AND COOPERATIVE TOA!"

He yelled as they walked off into the distance.

OOC: Luta, Toku and Raku are going to Ga-Wahi.
