So It would take time for Illusive to get up there and hit him from behind. It's a staff with a big stabby blade on the end... I assure you that Illusive doesn't need to be up on the stage to reach Pyre. And if Pyre is turned around to talk to Rail, then his back is completely exposed. Illusive is right at the foot of the stage with Cao, Mantis and all of those others. He's already at the front of the crowd; he wouldn't have to push past anybody.
