"Worse." Poats said from the masts.

"Looks like we got ourselves a storm. "

OOC: That's what it seems from Toatapio's post.

IC Jarkale and Lai Lai

(Endless Ocean, The Inika):

"Yes, it's a storm... but not just that", Lai Lai said grimly. "Looks like it's going to be worse than usual. The ship's gonna be tossed around real hard soon. We should prepare for its arrival and do everything we can to keep the ship above water."

Jarkale looked sick. The sea was far from his preferred environment, and now he could imagine the anger of the sea holding The Inika in its grasp, rocking it left and right and left...

"Ugh..."

"I agree, outrunning that thing would be half impossible. It's better just to do our best to weather it."

"Flo," I said, leaning one arm on his shoulder while a lazy grin graced my visage. "Believe me, we prevent you from having access to rum because we love you, and because we would actually be incredibly saddened at having to kick the inebriated and far less loveable version of you into the deep blue sea. True story; ain't that right, Captain?"

Lohkar's shoulder suddenly disappeared from under Gunner's elbow, sending the First Mate stumbling before he regained his balance, trying so hard to look like nothing had happened that is was almost cute.

"Don't mind Gunner," Lohkar told Floria as the guards (grudgingly) let them pass. "'E hasn't got a clue what anyone's talking' about, least of all himself."

OOC: Soz for the late post :P

IC-Hahli:

"Yes, Tivanu, it's nice to see that you managed to bring Surina back," Hahli said to the Skakdi, before Mar spoke up. She frowned, crossing her arms - and frowned even more deeply after what Tivanu and Orderin said. After a moment, she sighed.

"Fine, I'll speak with you. Let's go out into the hallway and shut the door behind us, and then we can talk." Hahli gestured toward the door. "After you, Mar. As for you, Tivanu, make sure Surina stays awake, and make sure she doesn't try to crawl off. It's not good for business for supposedly-dead prisoners to come out of the HQ on their hands and knees."

OOC: Alright Went back and read through the Onu-wahi topic and found this post. Tivanu was present for when Rhea told mar what she wanted him to do. Given the fact the post never mentions her speaking quietly enough for tivanu to hear or what not.. Well I am playing I as Tivanu heard the whole thing.

IC: Tivanu

Tivanu held up a hand as he heard Hahli speak

"No disrespect Akiri but I would suggest against speaking with mar in private. Given what his employer was trying to do with Surina prior to my intervening.. Well one should always watch a snake to make sure they don't strike as soon as you turn your back. Add in the fact I know that His employer has told him to try and allow Surina to escape out of marine custody if there is a way to do it without implicating himself.. And if there isn't he is to speak with you on Rhea's behalf to try and petition you to forgive the death penalty instead allowing her to serve a life sentence in prison. After what has already been said I would not be surprised if Rhea wants to have surina in prison for the chance to break her out at some point in the future."

He looked back to Mar and Smiled widely

"And mar you should tell Rhea there never was a 'Favor' granted to me by the akiri for bringing in surina. It was a ploy to get surina in 'my' custody. So what if the makuta of a woman has my life savings.. I have found ways to survive without money and I can do it again. That silver ring she has you holding onto as a form of security deposit.. It never belonged to a long dead friend of mine. It was payment I received from an employer in Po-wahi."

He leaned in close to Mar an his voice was deathly soft

"Tell Rhea she has been played for a fool."

He then looked back to Hahli and smiled motioning to Surina and the two guards who escorted her in

"I believe Your marines can handle surina since they were so keen on taking custody of her. And my ally, orderin," he motions to the toa of air who accompanied him "Can help keep her awake."

"Your concern is noted and appreciated, Tivanu," Hahli began, smiling slightly, "But my definition of private would only require your exclusion, and that of your prisoner and your friend. My marines would not be excluded from that, nor would my own personal abilities." She patted the knife that still was sheathed at her belt, and winked at Mar. "And I doubt a mercenary such as him would be stupid enough to try anything, even if I was completely alone with him. As for the rest of the knowledge you provided...Well, I suppose miss Rhea and Mar should get points for trying, but I stand firm with my original decision. She was already convicted once, and I didn't have it in me to carry out the sentencing like it should have been. I'm not going to make the same mistake twice."Hahli gestured to the two marines who had carried Surina in earlier, sending them off to go put her in a cell. She certainly didn't feel happy about this - she hadn't before - but what needed to be done would get done.

Looking back to the group, she gestured for all of them to take a seat and get comfortable. "Anyways, there does remain to be discussed the matter of a reward. I'm not in the habit of sending those who do me a favour away empty-handed, after all."

IC: Mar (Marine HQ)

I droned, considering my options. So be it that Surina's fate was sealed, that was just how things went. I didn't look at the Ga-Matoran as I turned to the other one who'd taken Tivanu's news in appropriate stride.

At this point, there was still very much the promise of a reward from Hahli for Surina's capture, although it very likely wasn't as substantial as the one Rhea had been promised, it was still something.

But all that was secondary to one very important realization; Tivanu was in for it, if not from me, then from Rhea, and if I wanted to save even the slightest hint of face, I'd put the sneering Skakdi in the hospital double-time before she showed up.

"I'm fairly convinced a monetary reward will suffice, given the circumstances"

Tivanu nodded to Hahli as he heard this

"I would actually suggest there be no reward. Afterall This was not an official bounty, as such I can not in my right mind take a reward for this. And I believe seeing a criminal brought to justice should be enough of a payment."

Not twenty meters away a lithe brown toa was passionately pressing his lips into those of a tall blue Toa's. Neither of them actually knew each other's name, but the blue Toa only thought that made it more romantic. They had spent a wonderful day at the beach, discussing the brown Toa's unique and adventurous philosophy on life, being romantic, and enjoying life. It was certainly one of the blue Toa's better days, and she thought she saw something in his roguish I-don't-care-attitude that she could change-

-which was why she was so surprised when he dropped her and she found herself lying on her back on the sand.

She turned her head to see him swaggering away and wiping her saliva off his lips nonchalantly. It was the last she ever saw of him.

Verak strode up to the group of pirates walking across the beach, the stunned girl blinking after him with his taste still on her lips, not quite realizing he had already forgotten her.

And enormous grin stretched across his face as he placed his arms around both Lohkar's and Gunner's shoulders and grinned at them both. "Well, it's about time," he said jauntily, "I thought you darlings had just about settled down in that little fishing town."

IC (Lohkar)

Lohkar returned Verak's grin, and was just about to embark on some witty repartee when he froze, the smile draining from his face. He let Verak's arm slide off his shoulder as he broke off from the trio and headed toward something blue bobbing up and down in the shallows. The water near it was tinted ever-so-slightly red.

The pirate grimaced as he knelt on one knee in the sand to inspect it. It was a Matoran's corpse, bearing horrible lacerations. On her chest, the crimson lines formed the crude image of a Hau - a laughing Hau.

Lohkar closed the Matoran's dull eyes with two fingers, a mark of respect. He'd have wished her peace, if he were a religious man.

Who knows, perhaps he was?

Something caught the captain's eye; even as he broke off from the group, Floria followed. It didn't take long to see what had drawn Lohkar's attention - within the body of water that he stood a few feet from was....well, a body.

"...Who could have done this?"

She eyes the carving of the Hau on the matoran's chest. A branding of some sort - what did it mean?

IC: Miraul

I led the Akiru in our labors to finish the ship with Rhea's latest request. I worked with Hikari and Reynar to cut away parts the deck-Reynar proved quite efficient at the task while Hikari got to stand back and watch. Six saws work much faster than one. I was running my sawblade on Kakama, and he still got more work done. The fact that mine turned red-hot from friction probably didn't help my case-soft sawblades aren't that good at cutting things.

Below deck Takamaz and Divan modified the gear arrangement, allowing for the new turrets to be put in place. The weapon mounts got built the next day. Rhea's idea for the design wasn't the best- we went with one that was a little different, and allowed for more control of your aim. Divan added some springs to the design to help handle recoil.

When those features were complete, we packed up and set sail for Forsi.

With the Marines alerted to the corpse on the beach, Lohkar and his companions made their way back through the village towards the Great Takea.

IC:

"S'long as we don't have that guy," I answered, jerking a thumb over in a certain Toa of Sand's direction, "trailing along with us, Captain, I'm all for it. Or if we do, at least give us the option of shoving 'im overboard, will ya?"

A quip and a grin made for the best mask in the world; the one I've been wearing for the past few decades now has become so natural and form-fitting that I don't even think I could take it off if I wanted. Crack a few jokes, raise some ires, and suddenly no one's worried about your hidden depths because as far as they're concerned, you don't have any. You're the resident prick, the class clown, the man they love to hate; you've got a personality made up of one-liners and cheap tricks, with no room left for introspection or faith or existential crises. You're Gunner, the arrogant ###### no one likes and everyone admires, a dichotomy unto yourself, and your one of the few people who knows -- really knows -- how much you can keep hidden behind a mask.

Take off that mask, and suddenly everything's topsy-turvy.

A cold finger of fright traced up my spine like a lover's caress. Beneath my grinning visage and my jaunty step, I wanted to vomit. Every face I saw looked back at me with dull, unblinking eyes; they faced me with gaping mouths trapped in silent screams, and blood flowed free down their armour, tracing designs of pain across their water-logged skin. A bloody Hau superimposed itself on my vision when I looked over the sea, lips spread wide in contemptuous laughter, and I watched as black eyes glimmered in its sockets; familiar pits of oil sunken into a cobalt skull. It wasn't a new sight; I'd looked upon it every day of my childhood.

I saw it all without breaking stride, but when the smell of burning flesh, sickly-sweet like candy left in a water pot, got caught in my nostrils, I knew I had had enough.

A quip and a grin.

"I suppose that this is part of some brilliant plan you've cooked up for us, Captain," I added, adjusting my coat collar so as to be sufficiently roguish. "Unfortunately for you, ever since Raknar was given the title as the ship's 'culinary official', I have trouble trusting anything that our lot 'cooks'."

I put the mask back on, and everything was good again.

OOC: Okay, let's try this...

IC:

Under the night sky, the tip of my cigarette flares briefly, a small splotch of orange in the midst of inky blackness. I hold my breath, trapping the fumes in my lungs, and then I slowly exhale, watching grey wisps of smoke fade away into the darkness.

It’s a quiet night. My leg jitters of its own volition, my shoulders are tense and the breeze brushes past my clammy hand. I’m nervous. It’s only natural.

Another puff of smoke. It tastes horrible but it soothes me. I can’t remember when I started smoking exactly. Every breath I take leaves a bitter taste in my mouth and the conscious effort disgusts me. Still, with every exhalation, I can feel stress escaping my body and that particular sensation anchors me all the way down to the depths of addiction.

Eventually, I grow tired of the monotony and revulsion gets the better of me. One flick sends the little thing into the water, extinguishing its light until only the stars remain. I sit on the bench alone, quiet and still as the sea, and as the minutes drag on, anxiety creeps up on me again. Another smoke.

I watch its end, burning ever so slightly. Its unsettling glow brings back memories. The brilliant flash of orange and yellow, the screaming, the slithering…

I remember pain.

The thought sends a chill down my spine. It ripples sharply. That’s enough for me. I throw the cig away and water smothers it once more. I get up. I walk. Every action feels rehearsed.

I don’t know if this is what I want anymore. It’s not too late to turn back. This path won’t lead me to happiness. But the other way leads me to nowhere.

It’s the right thing to do.

Those words echo off the walls of my own emptiness. I hear them over and over again, though they’re not mine. I’d like to think a part of me still agrees with that statement, yet I can’t say for certain. I’ve been fading away slowly. My efforts are futile but I still cling on desperately. A long time ago, I might have jumped at this opportunity, a shot at justice, a chance for revenge. It took a lot of convincing to land me into this mess.

You should want this.

When I see the house, I stop dead in my tracks. Again, I remind myself that I can go back. I ask myself why I would want to. Nothing’s waiting for me. There’s no point. Then again, once this is over, what happens next? Nothing good I imagine. I may end up right where I started. Oddly, that sounds comforting.

I move towards the door. I knock in a succession of three, each hit quick and audible. I shift a little where I stand, and when the door cracks open, I stiffen.

The man before me is a Toa of fire. He’s old, taller than I am, and age has dulled his looks to the point of rust. He stares at me, confusion evident by his furrowed brow. He doesn’t recognize me, but I didn’t expect him to. Instead of asking me who I am, he looks me over suspiciously, and his eyes linger on a slight bump protruding from the base of my neck.

Right then and there, he knows, not who I am but what I’m here to do. For the first time tonight, anger floods my system yet it’s not my own; this rage is profound, savage and barbaric, qualities which my feelings have long lost. No, mine is subdued, calm and bitter, easily assimilated into the steady flow of passionate rage fueling my body. I don’t realize it but I start to change. Elation spreads throughout my body as I grow, a sense of power dawning upon me. In a matter of seconds, I tower over the old man and he can only stare in horror at the monstrosity I’ve become.

The monstrosity he’s responsible of creating.

And for the first time, I realize I do want this.

I roar.

OOC: Not open for interaction.

I shook my head with a grin as I finished discretely carving a message into the side of one of the village’s leaf huts with my knife.

“Oh, you need to do a better job of concealing the burning jealousy you feel about my looks, wit, and charm.” I said, flashing my brilliant smile at Gunner. “As well as my sense of style.” I mused, looking back at the graffiti I had made:

'Stay sharp Hahli <3 Verak'

The day’s date was carved below it. I was proud of my artwork, as well as the day in general. I had just waltzed through the village where I was at the top of the wanted list and made it through with little more than a suspicious glance. I had to make sure that his favorite military on the island recognized my accomplishment. Oh, I could just imagine the Iraira’s frustration when she found out what I had done and the bad joke she used to mask it.

However, I also had to make sure to get to the Infernavika before those guards that had given me those suspicious glances checked up on their information and realized that the man who had been arrested for doing just about everything that wasn’t allowed was jauntily walking around in the middle of their village.

I hopped over to Gunner and walked apace with him, still grinning self confidently at the man.

IC(Ignitus(on board the Inika)):

Why didn't we think to recruit at least one Toa of Water for just this situation?

"Well, you heard the woman," I say. "Anything that's not tied or nailed down, tie it down or throw it over. Tuarn, if there's any damage left from the fights with the Tarakava and that other...thing, fix it. Lai Lai, keep an eye on the storm and tell me if anything changes. Jarkale, Gravus' compass is sitting on a crate next to my hammock. If you could bring that here, I'd be very appreciative. JL, if any lightning comes our way, send it somewhere else. And Xadah, I need a drink."

IC Jarkale and Lai Lai

(Endless Ocean, The Inika):

"Yes sir", Lai Lai said.

"Aye aye sir!" Jarkale said. Lai Lai gave him a funny look.

"Seriously?"

"Nevermind", Jarkale said with a shrug and ran to get Gravus' compass.

IC (Lohkar)

As the pirate captain strode unaccompanied across the lilypads of Ga-Koro, there was a slight spring in his step as though he walked to the beat of a lively jig only he could hear. He certainly cut a dashing figure, somehow sticking out from and blending into the crowd at once - Lohkar had a gift for the unlikely. Even the straight-bladed sabre that hung, scabbarded, at his waist garnered barely a second glance from those he passed. A smile tugged at his mouth, his sparkling eyes matching the clear blue of the sky above. It was time to visit his love.

Ga-Koro had been a home of sorts for him and his crew since their fight against Makuta’s Rahkshi horde; he couldn’t deny that it had been nice to rest a while, enjoy himself, and spend some of the plunder he’d amassed without fear of the authorities. But it wasn’t in his nature to stay in any one place for too long: his limbs itched with excitement to get back to the open seas where he belonged.

His jaunty steps carried him quickly through the streets, weaving between groups of Ga-Matoran lugging crates to and from the docks that were his destination. He passed the guards at the docks’ gate, walking out onto the long pier, and looking up, his smile broadened as he saw her masts peeking up above the rows of ships.

His pace quickened. He passed jetties and mooring lines, barrels and crates waiting to be loaded, trading caravels and Marine galleons, skiffs and coracles, all the while picking up speed - and as he rounded the last corner, there she was sitting proudly in her berth. The triangular letters on her bows spelled her name: Infernavika.

He bounded up the gangplank and onto the deck, feeling the familiar wood beneath his feet. The whole ship was made of it, from the keel to the crow’s nest - a fine, strong wood from his homeland with a natural red tint as though it had been soaked in wine.

Lohkar clambered up the rigging, stopping halfway and hanging by one arm to look down at the magnificent vessel. The Infernavika was a truly beautiful ship. She was long and streamlined, her design full of sweeping curves - and light, for her naked hull bore no armour plate and no engine weighed her down. Three masts, carrying a flurry of furled white sails, stretched tall from her decks. Matoran ships were sturdy and reliable, but few could match the speed and maneuvrability of a Lesterin vessel, and the ‘Vika was unmatched in her class.

Two floors stretched the length of the ship below-decks. The upper level housed the gun deck and the crew’s living quarters; sandwiched between the crew’s small cabins fore and the mess and galley aft lay the magazine, strategically placed so as to make munitions quickly available for the cannons and keep powder dry should the ship take on water. The gun deck itself was a long corridor of sorts that encircled the aforementioned rooms, laden with cannons. At the front of the ship, the deck was raised a little; not high enough to qualify as a forecastle, but making space for a somewhat cramped mezzanine at the fore of the gun-deck which allowed the ‘Vika to carry four chasers instead of two, perfect for head-on assaults. The lower level was mainly taken up by the hold, with a brig of a few simple cells.

Lohkar’s personal cabin was located in the ship’s aftcastle, above which was the poop-deck. The steering-wheel’s many pins were worn smooth by many years in the captain’s hands. On its column, a handful of levers controlled ingenious counterweight mechanisms, allowing the helmsman to lower either anchor with a flick of a wrist.

The two sides of the ship met in a sleek prow, and beneath it was her carved figurehead: the bird from which she took her name, wings spread wide.

Lohkar loved his ship like little else. He’d sailed her into many a perilous battle, but she’d weathered them all and always carried him safely away. She didn’t need armour; she was tougher than she looked, and swift enough to outrun anything she couldn’t outfight. There had been damage over the years, but you wouldn’t know it to look at her - the wood still shone like the day she was built. Lohkar took care of the Infernavika, and she took care of him.

Swinging around to look out over the bay, Lohkar fixed his eyes on the horizon, where the deeper blue of the open ocean waited beyond.

You an’ me against the world, old girl.

IC(Ignitus(on board the Inika)):

"Potas, Rerus, you're in charge of insulating anything metal on the deck with a nice, thick layer of rock."

Xadah returns, a large bottle of whiskey in each hand, and hands me one. I lift it to my mouth, bite down on the cap, and pop it right off, before spitting it out and taking a nice, large swallow.

"Xadah, you go below and tie down anything that's not tied or nailed down. This is gonna get rough."

Goes to the nearest piece of metal and asks, "You know how to apply rock?" He gave a wondering look at Rerus.

Kale Ironshaper- Ga-koro- Fowadi

IC: The sound of an air motor warned those in the harbor of an incoming ship. Those interested enough to lift their heads from what they were doing and look saw a large ship covered in plates of metal that glinted in the bright sun. Once again at the wheel, Kale took a deep breath of the salt filled air and smiled.

"Time to make port fellows. Get those ropes ready and throttle down the motor. I don't want to ram anyone on the way in."

Ga-koro is rather charming in appearance.

Hopefully I do not break my arm again.

IC: "Gray" (Fowadi)

Ga-Koro, the village of water, home of sailors, fishermen and weavers alike, and once long ago, also her home.

I small part of her felt glad upon seeing the lilypad huts once more, and another marveled at how much the Koro had changed, but the rest of her felt ashamed and awkward, two sensations she'd experienced constantly on the trip so far, working with the other crew members but saying as little as possible, and more or less at all times remaining secluded.

The one called Kale gave them their orders, and her gaze was almost unwillingly drawn towards the port and the sandy beachlines on the horizon, the site of her former life, and of her failure.

She acted in accordance with his orders, all the while remaining secluded and making as little of a fuss about herself as possible.

IC (Lohkar)

Lohkar, still hanging on the Infernavika's rigging, turned at the sound of what could only be a large ship coming into port. His smile transmuted itself into a gleeful grin as he saw and recognised the vessel.

He leaped down onto the deck and then the pier, and a brisk jog along the walkway later he stood at the berth, watching as the warship slowly floated into it.

"Well, scuttle me spinnaker, if it ain't the Fowadi," he called up at the Fe-Toa helmsman. "What brings you to the Land o' the Fishies?"

IC: "A crazy treasure hunter decided to break out of one of our prisons. We came to bring him back." Kale shouted back. A glance at the  Infernavika caused him to raise one of his eyebrows.

"Last time I saw your ship she had armor. What changed?"

IC (Lohkar)

"She got a cap'n with a brain!" Lohkar replied. "Ridiculous idea, puttin' great wads o' metal on the 'Vika - or any ship, in fact."

The Lesterin's grin widened.

"No offence. Now..."

He unhitched the Grapnel Gun from his back, and Kale had barely registered the sound of some hydraulic clicks and a buzzing cable when Lohkar's feet slammed onto the Fowadi's deck in front of him. The Gun did wonders for Lohkar's mobility.

"...I may 'ave misheard, but did you just say 'TREASURE'?"

IC: "Ahh, I thought that might catch your attention. Yes. In the rather insulting message that he left behind the crook mentioned that he was going after some sort of legendary treasure and dared us to follow."

Just then the ship's wicker bumper hit the edge of the one of the peers, the crew jumping overboard and tying it to down.

IC: "TREZUR?!," Came the stupefied echo right on cue, its beret-wearing utterer emerging to cast his cobalt gaze immediately above Lasinia's own. The elation of a child gleamed in his awed peering towards the other boat.

The Doomslayer was back.
