IC: Exxan - Library. 

 

"Will everyone calm down?" he snapped, pushing his way through the crowd to the front of the room. This was a library, a place of peace and quiet. Suvak's summons had turned it into a madhouse, and he did not appreciate it. 

 

IC: Xara - Library 

 

Xara squatted on top of a bookshelf, surveying the interior of the room. She was calm, collected, calculating the odds of all of these students actually participating in the assignment. There were a few she recognised as potential competitors, but she surmised that most had come here to find out what the assignment was all about. Once Suvak finished his announcement, most of them would probably shuffle away to resume their lives.

 

The lack of ambition among some of the students here never ceased to astound and perplex her. But there were some, like herself, who were here to win, and some of them were already in the library right now. She laughed to herself, her voice coming out in a hiss, "Let the games begin..." 

 

IC: The Twins - Dormitory Wing/Library

 

"Thanks," Silencer said gratefully, as Illusive opened his door and let him inside. "I'll be fine in a few hours, I'm sure." 

 

What am I meant to do in the meantime? Illusive signed. 

 

Silencer shrugged, "maybe you could go find out what the next assignment is all about?" He was too tired to even raise his hands and form signs. 

 

Very well, Illusive sighed, turning away. Silencer closed the door and slumped down into his bed, exhaustion weighing him down. Illusive continued on down the corridor, soon reaching the library, where he hovered uncertainly in the entryway, unsure of what to do with himself now. He wasn't used to being on his own.

 

IC: Era - Outside Library. 

 

"I swear, everyone in this place is mad," Era sighed, registering the loud sounds of several someones shouting and running around wildly somewhere inside the library. "This is a library, for karz's sake." 

 

OOC: Illusive, Exxan and Xara all open for interaction.

Deadeye had turned round and spotted Xara. He gave a wave, his knife swinging about on it's rope.

IC Vaalku

 

Vaalku groaned as he strode through the crowd, setting Omega down as he did so. He said in a whisper "Wait here, I have to stop something." and pushed his way to Exxan who was raising his voice angrily.

 

"It won't do you any good, they can't hear you."

IC: Melody-Outside the Library

 

"No, I-I didn't think that it w-would be someth-thing I would want to do, b-but I th-thought it would have started by n-now so I-I-I came to ch-check."

IC:Flash

Through the noisy commotion in the Library, Flash swore she heard Melody and tried to push to the door.

IC: Bullseye/Outside the Library

"Well, it hasn't started yet. And the place got too loud. When is Suvak going to announce the assignment? If he doesn't do it sooner, the Library might end up being wrecked. Some of the latest transfers aren't alright, no offense to those who are just physically disabled."

IC: Xara/Exxan - Library.

 

Xara spotted the weird Rahk waving a knife at her and sneered down at him from her perch atop the bookshelf. Everyone was jealous of her talent in battle; she'd accepted that a long time ago. Sure, Phogen and Squid and Exxan were the most renowned students in the school these days, but she still had a reputation all of her own, and it looked like not everyone had forgotten it.

 

Elsewhere, Exxan rounded on Vaalku. "You seemed able to hear me just fine," he pointed out.

IC Poly: I spotted Xara atop the bookshelves, sneering at all below her. I'd call her conceited, if not for her skill. I felt a somewhat kindred spirit to her. Her strength and technique, my form and poise.

That's new. I thought you only found others weak.

 

I tapped the pommel of my rapier idly, the smooth cool metal calming my nerves slightly.

 

OOC: Poly open for interaction.

OOC: You know that Deadeye is on a bookshelf too right?

IC: Deadeye

Deadeye simply laughed. He then pointed to Revenge and gave a slice neck motion, grinning all the while.

IC Vaalku

 

"That's because I'm right next to you, not absorbed in my own thoughts like everyone else. Oh, I think I see Suvak!" Vaalku peered hard at what he thought was Suvak.

IC: Omega

"I told you I saw him! Oh hi Exxan!" He yelled.

IC: Fang - Nynrah

 

Fang tried to keep himself occupied by dripping plasma through his hands. The drops slid across his fingers, glowing brightly, but then slowly fizzling out as they cooled. He watched them fade, but his eyes were not entirely focused on them.

 

Outside of the workshop, he had time to just think, something he hadn't done for a while. It was all coming back in a rush. Exxan, Phogen, Hoto, Bullseye, Rider. All real problems... real Rahkshi he couldn't just ignore in the heat of the forge. He kept returning to that one question: Why? Why was it all coming so fast?

 

He was nobody, then he stands up to a Rahkshi who happens to become the next level three, and suddenly everyone is rushing to be his friend. No one could care like he does, about what he does. Could they?

 

He watched the drops fall, occasionally one slipping off and flaring as it ate through the street before fizzling like the rest. Kat was still sitting next to him, but seemed to be just as talkative as he was. He was content to sit in silence.

 

 

IC: Hoto - Outside Library

 

"Not everyone. Just wait 'til Phogen gets here. I'm sure she'll have something to say about it with Exxan. They're both level threes, you know."

IC: Melody-Outside 

 

"O-o-ok." All these Rahkshi were making her nervous.

[Nato G]

IC: Exxan - Library

 

"Two's company, three's a crowd," Exxan sighed, "what do you guys want?" 

 

IC: Era - Outside Library.

 

"Phogen and Exxan? Level threes?" Era had heard snippets of conversation here and there, but this was the first time she'd been able to properly connect all of the dots. "Very interesting. And you think they'll be able to talk some sense into everyone?" 

 

IC: Xara - Library.

 

Xara ignored the creepy Deadeye and looked at the rest of the crowd. She spotted Poly looking at her, and managed a smile. There was someone with skill, and ambition. A potential ally, or a dangerous enemy. Xara continued surveying those on the ground, letting her legs swing loosely from the edge of the bookshelf as she sat down properly. She actually had a good view from up here.

"What do you think? we're here for the mission."

 

Vaalku and Omega shoved their way up to where Suvak stood and waited for him to speak. Suddenly he realized Suvak was testing the Rahks. Perhaps he wanted the ones who were more controllable to go on the mission, and with Exxan and that one mental Rahk on the bookshelf tensions were high. He grinned. Syvak's a smart cookie. he thought. He explained his theory to Omega.

IC: Omega

"Oh I don't want anything. I'm just saying hi. You know, BEING NICE." He said, grinning.

"I'm not here to be nice," Exxan replied coolly, "I'm here to do well."

IC: Hoto - Outside Library

 

"If anyone can, it's them! Everyone here knows Phogen and Exxan and how powerful they are. Just one word and most of that crowd would shut up. The rest will too, if they're smart."

 

The hallways outside were beginning to clear out as Rahkshi filled the Library. Hoto was relieved to finally sense the opposite wall, though the noise was still painful, especially since she had only just left the Infirmary.

IC: Omega

Omega walked to the rest of the group after hearing Vaalku's theory. He stood next to Exxan to him off.

IC: Jayar / Outside the Library

 

 

Phogen. Jayar had heard of... it. A persuasive Rahkshi with plenty of power and no morals to inhibit using said power in any way which could elevate itself, no matter the cost to others. Oh yes, he had heard of Phogen.

 

Perhaps someday Phogen would hear of him... But not yet.

 

"Phogen would probably rather convince them to join its band of followers than annoy them by policing the library," he said. "Exxan is more likely to defend the realm of knowledge, from what I hear. What we really need it a Rahkshi of Silence." He noted a look of discomfort on Hoto's face. "Are you alright?"

[Nato G]

IC: Era - Outside Library.

 

"The noise," Era explained, looking vaguely in Jayar's direction, "it's... painful..." 

 

IC: Exxan - Library.

 

Omega decided to stand next to Exxan. Normally, this would have annoyed him, but instead, it gave Exxan an idea. "Alright everyone!" he shouted, jumping up on a chair, "This is a library! We're here to receive an assignment, not to socialise! Now please, could you all quiet down, so we can hear what Suvok has to say." He waited for a few moments to make sure he had everyone's attention. "Now, if any of you have a problem with what I've said, take it up with my bodyguard here," he pointed at Omega before dropping down off the chair again.

 

He smiled smugly. Maybe he'd been a bit heavy-handed, but it seemed to have worked. The crowd was falling silent.

IC: Hoto - Library

 

Hoto nodded at Era's remark. "We navigate using sound, and our audio receptors are a bit more sensitive than most. It's one of the perks of being blind, but when there's a lot of noise like this, it... hurts. Not only because of the volume, but it scrambles our 'vision,' and I've got enough of a headache from that sonic bow."

 

Just as Hoto finished, the Library began to quiet down just a little, and she breathed a sigh of relief. "I'll bet that Phogen finally getting some order in this place," she said with a smirk. "Come on, you probably haven't met her yet. He doesn't need to police anything or convince anyone. They just... listen. You'll see when you meet her."

 

Hoto grabbed Jayar and Era and pulled them back in the room with a grin. With the noise coming down, she could finally try to pick out where Phogen was. There was a Rahk across the room who looked a bit taller than the rest. Probably standing on something, the perfect spot for someone demanding attention. Hoto went straight for them.

[Nato G]

IC: Exxan - Library.

 

Exxan bristled. His plan for getting rid of Omega had failed. Apparently, no one wanted to pick a fight with his "bodyguard." Even so, the main goal had been successful. The library was slowly descending once more into a peaceful silence. Well, not quite silence. People were still talking, but at normal levels, not the shouting and hubbub of before. It was as good a result as he was going to get. "Power does come with its perks," he mused smugly. 

 

IC: Era - Library. 

 

Era's vision swam as she walked. There were too many people, too many conversations. Things were much quieter now, so she could at least avoid running into anyone, or blundering stupidly into inanimate objects. But she still couldn't clearly make out her surroundings properly. That was the problem with using her echolocation while on the move: it was more difficult to read the returning sonic waves as she moved away from them. It was equivalent to having poor depth perception. "Can you slow down a little, please?" Era asked Hoto, hating to have to admit weakness in front of anyone. Blindness is not weakness.. 

 

Something Hoto had said earlier suddenly caught in her mind. "You called Phogen a she, a he, and a they." she realised, "What's with that?"

IC: Jayar / The Library

 

 

The Rahkshi Hoto was leading him to was orange and black - Exxan. Jayar wondered if he would remember being almost knocked over earlier, and how he would respond if he did. "There's Exxan," he said. He looked around. Phogen was nowhere to be found, thankfully, but it was probably somewhere. "I don't see Phogen anywhere."

The big one next to the Tiger Striped Exxan was annoying. and not very bright.

At least the clamor was dying down. I checked and rechecked my equipment.

IC: Fang

 

Finally, Fang's thoughts worked their way out. "Why?" he whispered. He looked around to see if anyone had heard, and caught Kat's eyes. He looked down quickly, hoping she didn't notice, but she must have. The village was too quiet.

 

So he tried again. "Why... why did you stay? You've seen me... rage. I could have killed Rider. I..." He trailed off, unsure of how to continue.

 

 

IC: Hoto

 

Finally Hoto stopped. After Omega's shout, the noise was picking up again, and she couldn't keep track of where Exxan stood. She turned back to Era, a slight grimace already showing on her face. "I'm sorry," she said, both for going too quick and for dragging her into this bedlam.

 

Before the noise could pick up again, she shouted at Exxan and waved at where she thought he was.

Vaalku checked his arm device. Wait a sec. He thought. He couldn't stand next to Suvak with that thing on! So saying, he folded his arms behind his back in a normal manner, and got closer to Suvak.

IC Kat:

 

I looked at him for a long moment, our eyes searching each other. 

 

"Because.... I think you have a lot of good ideas. I think you mean well. You just need someone to temper your anger. You've become so full of anger at everything the Acadamy is, that... I don't think you've really taken the time to improve yourself."

 

Stupid. Stupid, what did that even MEAN?

 

I shook my head. "You haven't been able to get away from all of the suspiscion and fear. Maybe..... maybe I just want to give you the chance to not be so on edge all the time."

Vaalku waited for Suvak to speak. He turned and glanced at Omega, who was still trying to push Exxan over the edge.

IC: Fang

 

"No, you're right. Are you up for the job, then?" He grinned at her, not quite meaning it seriously.

 

He suddenly looked back down at his hands, the grin gone. "I didn't think anyone else could call my ideas 'good.' I've watched Rahkshi destroying and plotting, even against each other, ever since the first moment I was hatched. I... I'd begun to think I was the wrong one. I couldn't possibly be right when everything else was saying I'm crazy.

 

"For a moment, back there, I could forget all of that. I can always push it back, just for a moment. But everything around me, the schemes, the fighting, it all reminds me. It reminds me I can never forget." His words came out as a growl.

[Khromatose]

IC: Melody-Outside 

 

"O-o-ok." All these Rahkshi were making her nervous.

 

IC: Bullseye/Outside the Library

"Hey."

He noticed that Melody was very uncomfortable. Perhaps there were too many Rahkshi around for her liking.

"If you didn't like being among so many Rahkshi, why didn't you say so?"

He got off the wall and began walking. He beckoned for her to join him.

"Why don't we go and take a walk around the place? It's good exercise, and it beats just standing around the door waiting."

 

OOC: Remember. All four of my characters are open to interaction.

 

This is my last post for the day. Assume that Bullseye is walking around and is back to hear the assignment. Melody can or doesn't have to follow.

IC Kat: I gently placed a hand on his arm. He was warm. VERY warm.

 

Don't get distracted.

 

"It's okay to remember. Just.... Don't let it control you. I've.... I've seen that sort of thing before. Karz, I can't believe I'm saying this, but you know the story of the Toa called... What was it.... Tahu, I think. As the story goes, he had a temper that would rival even yours, at times. Didn't work too well with his team. But... Despite that, he never fell into his Rage. And heck, as I've heard it, he and his team all but defeated one of the Makuta."

 

I looked at the ground.

 

"Maybe Toa aren't our best role models, but if they don't have some admirable traits...."

 

I smirked, "Could have sworn I was leading into something with this, but it escapes me now..."

Time seemed to be taking extremely long now, so he simply leaned up against the wall a short distance from the silent Suvak and waited for his response.

 

OOC: Gotta go to sleepies, guys! be back tomorrow!

IC: Era/Exxan - Library.

 

Ignoring the minor annoyance that was Omega, Exxan spotted Hoto, along with a few other Rahkshi, trying to get his attention. He wondered how well the blind Rahkshi was coping in a rowdy environment like this one. "Hello again," he said, looking past her to take in her companions. There was a Rahkshi who'd blundered into him a while back in the gym. He'd even wearing a blindfold at the time; perhaps that's why he was with Hoto now. And there was another Rahkshi as well, with a faceplate that was distinctly lacking eyes. 

 

"You brought some friends, I see." he noted, moving away from Omega and Vaalku to go stand by the new arrivals. 

 

Era homed in on the voice and directed a series of inaudible sonic waves towards the speaker. So this was Exxan? She reached out towards him, lightly touching his armoured arm, sensing the low hum of power emanating from him. Air rippled around his body, seeming to both repel and attract at the same time. "Vacuum?" she guessed, lowering her arm and waiting for confirmation.

IC: Omega

As much fun it was pissing off Exxan, Omega was bored. He couldn't see Phogen anywhere and so he decided to leave, heading for Fang and Kat.

He arrived, landing near them silently. However, he didn't notice the few matoran watching, and waiting.

IC: Fang - Nynrah

 

He hadn't heard that one. A Toa with a temper problem? The thought just seemed ridiculous and unnatural, like a... kind Rahkshi. But he had met enough of those, hadn't he?

 

"I doubt a Toa could rival my temper," he finally said, trying to sound funny, but it still was hollow. "That has to be one of the stories the Makuta made up. The Toa are so... good. They help because they feel they should, and they don't question it. No one questions them when they do, they just... jump in and save everyone in time for a celebration. With us... it's not that easy."

 

 

IC: Hoto - Library

 

She reached out towards the voice. "Exxan! Thank the Makuta we found you! Where's Phogen? Oh, right, I should introduce them. This is Era, she's blind too. I met her while I was teaching Jayar here how to use echolocation."

 

She listened as Era tried to guess his power. She grinned to hear her guess right. "Yep! Vacuum it is!"

IC Kat: "Maybe it is just a tale. But if you're right, then maybe that's why the Makuta tell us we're better than the Toa..... because for us, the virtues they follow are a choice, not an expectation."

 

I mused on this, and spotted Omega out of the corner of my eye.

 

"Back so soon?" I asked teasingly.
