  1. The idea of rebelling against destiny is kind of messed up imo.........like don't get me wrong, i love the idea but there's only two options: -the prophesied "destiny" was false and you're actually fulfilling your true destiny -you fail to rebel against destiny, you just can't beat it I mean ultimately destiny is just cause and effect, I think. The idea that some are "destined" to become Toa, or something's "destined" to transform when it touches Energized Protodermis, it basically just means "these things are supposed to happen according to the Grand Timeline." Like, the reason alternate timelines are different is because destiny is different there. It's kind of weird using a word like "destiny" to describe how you're more or less a slave to the timeline, but in a super optimistic light? Works that deal heavily with time travel or prophecy typically touch on that (see: Homestuck, for instance) but focus on the negatives a lot. If a timeline is concrete and can't be changed, how messed up is it to witness your own death and the deaths of your friends and know that's how it HAS to go down? Interesting how the Matoran put a positive spin on it. I wonder if other cultures, the Skakdi or Zyglak for instance, view destiny with scorn, considering they're not Mata Nui's "chosen" species? It's a little part of "Bionicle culture" that's pretty cool, I think.
  2. It's not for everyone but why not make it meaningful? Not necessarily as heavy-handed as, say, Ace Attorney or Harry Potter where everything is a goofy pun, but you can put a lot of worldbuilding into your names. Just a suggestion. Something vague enough that not many people will pick up on it but the people who do will appreciate the little extra thought, or whatever.
  3. The original idea is (sort of) kind of a cool idea, imo, even though you were just joking. Like, Scream pulled it off, giving Drew Barrymore top billing and having her murdered right from the start. Sort of poking fun at the "big name actress final girl" idea. Anyway I'd like to see something like this--a story where all synopses and such hint that it's a story about the hero, but it's actually about the villain after they overcome the villain in the first half. Alternatively -- a damsel in distress whose superhero boyfriend dies early on and she inherits his powers? But all the publicity just shows the costumed hero or something. Something like that. Bait and switch the viewers. If not necessarily the gimmick with the most integrity, it'd be kind of cool to trick an audience like that.
  4. The more important question is, do the Piraka's teeth glow in the dark?
  5. i had an axe dual-wielding edea...i don't remember her exact build but she was a monster :|
  6. Paper Mario was on my dream roster before much was known about Sm4sh, but now that Doc's back I dunno how much I really want a third Mario. Don't get me wrong I'd be down for for a few Super Mario reps--Birdo, Waluigi, and Daisy all come to mind--but three Marios is kind of silly I guess. A good alternative, I think, would be some major Paper Mario characters--Vivian or Paper Yoshi would be pretty cool. (sidenote: I haven't voted yet, I'm considering Tetra, Chibi Robo, and Prince Fluff)
  7. The first five or so seasons of Spongebob are easily the funniest writing I've ever seen in a cartoon. The middle and more recent stuff...not so great, but still somewhat underrated. I also really like Gravity Falls.
  8. I like "Masters" for the moment, but with no media really other than the shorts and commercials I think it's sort of a tough call to make just yet. Hopefully this will be cleared up in later media e.g. books
  9. less delicious? you've never talked to a muaka i guess
  10. i love those legs. the feet especially. that kind of flow with such a bulky build is hard to do. Great job. i dunno about how symbolically the ccbs squid and tentacle are rendered, I mean they work well but they stand out as kinda funky imo. could have just been the original elements methinks eh but what do i know those are good legs
  11. I like the suggestion of skill tiers as opposed to age groups. Like, honestly most 13 year olds on here could blow me out of the water. i don't know if there NEEDS to be a divide but it'd be nice for the less experienced MOCists or hobbyists without much access to new parts to have some way to win a thingy I like the idea of a casual/serious sort of split, like, to borrow from Smash Bros, "FOR FUN" and "FOR GLORY." with the "for fun" tier having smaller prizes or whatever. lower risk, lower reward? of course you might get really skilled people selling their skills short and going for the casual contest and just absolutely dominating it. @Spirit's idea reminds me of cosplay contests at comic/anime conventions and that could work I guess but how would you get new members in the high tier? would they get moved to top tier if they win/qualify in a low tier contest?
  12. Was this even "canonized," strictly speaking? To my knowledge Greg never approved this theory elsewhere, he just stated it "made sense." So correct me if I'm wrong but before anyone bases their decision on "I don't like it but since two out of four are approved we might as well," shouldn't we clear up whether this is word of god or just Greg saying it's plausible? Would make sense, I guess
  13. i tried to come up with something constructive for this thread but the piraka rap has failed me YET AGAIN, there are just NO viable shibboleth options in that song
  14. ive never even seen frozen

  15. 4/5, i really dig this style. Not too exciting but that's alright
  16. Regarding Parasyte: it's finally up on Hulu Plus for those who have it. I don't know about you all but being a fat nasty trash and binge watching on Hulu is so much easier than any other way of finding anime episodes and I'm glad I can watch it on TV rather than a computer screen now. Maybe I'm behind on discussion but my thoughts on it so far is that it's really a good adaptation of the manga (it's been one of my favorites since I was in high school so this show's been so exciting to me) but the design and animation seem sort of wonky occasionally, especially in non-action scenes. Cutting corners to use the budget on more visually impressive sequences methinks?
  17. I'm glad people are saying PT and I didn't just overreact to the jump scare. I mean, I've tried a lot--Amnesia (Dark Descent and Machine for Pigs), Penumbra, Silent Hill 1-3, Nanashi No Game, Slender, Five Nights 1/2/3, basically all the indie RPG maker stuff out there (Yume Nikki and such)--but nothing actually made me shriek like PT did. Maybe it's the realism of the graphics or how it's a lot more subdued than other Silent Hills games but it's so frightening to me. I'm really excited for Silent Hills, hopefully it will be full of scares. Honorable mention goes to Ao Oni. It might not be beautiful or high budget but that blue guy doesn't look right.

    brickworld chicago?

Aha whoa thanks, both of you. very helpful stuff @Aanchir - I'll probably get the lower tier registration, not being an MOCist myself, though some of the full registration stuff looks like it might be worth it. I guess it depends on who I'll see there!
  19. Takanuva! (Nidhiki's a close second though I think...gosh so is Toa Ignika...and Gadunka...and Dalu........)
  20. Honestly? I feel like Gen 1 did get an ending. The serials were really just Greg throwing fans a bone, and I'm not commenting one way or another on their quality, it's just More or less all that needed explaining up until Mata Nui defeated Makuta was pretty much explained. All the new mysteries and adventures were a continuation of the main story. I guess some stuff like info on the Red Star was left kind of vague but that's really just extra exposition anyway. Maybe I'd like to see some new adventures with old and new characters in some sort of Bionicle sequel, maybe not, but either way G2 is where all Lego's effort belongs. (Besides, Bionicle's always had tons and tons of fanfiction, far more stuff than Greg could singlehandedly write between a busy schedule)
  21. What in the world... DO NOT DISRESPECT THE FLESHCAPE
  22. being bummed that ive never been to a lego related convention, i googled "lego convention chicago" and found out theres one going on in june in schaumburg has anyone been to brickworld, and if so how is it? what exactly do you do at cons other than look at mocs?
  23. This is so nice to look at. I dunno. Sorry I don't have much to say other than it gives me Feelings. Maybe the lighting? The wide composition? I dunno it just has a really cool sort of...feeling of a new beginning I guess. The one with Tahu walking on the road is particularly good imo. Bionicle photography isn't as common as it should be honestly
  24. I see a lot of people in this thread wanting collectibles back (mask packs and such) and this sentiment was pretty common even back in, like, '06. I'd definitely like to see this aspect of Bionicle/constraction come back but I've got a question: Why is it that Lego stopped? Do we have an answer? It seems, at least on BZP and other fan communities, like a wildly popular idea in really high demand. Are masks in all those colors just expensive to make? Do they not sell well?
